In the town of Alhambra, California, a young man is looking at used cars. A salesman walks over to him and says "Looking for some transportation?" The young man says "Yeah, I'm only in town for a couple of months and I just want something to get around in. I don't want to spend over a hundred dollars". Salesman says "That's not much money, but perhaps I can find something". Young man says "How about that old coupe over there?" Salesman says "Well, I could let you have it for 175 dollars". Young man says "No, a hundred flat, and that's my price". Salesman says "Wait a minute. I'll speak to the boss and see what he says. Look the car over and I'll be right back". The salesman returns and says "Good news, the boss says it is okay for a hundred dollars. Come over to the office and we can make out the papers". Salesman asks "Do you have the money with you?" Young man says "No. I got a cashier's check from the Neutral Bank in Chicago for 150 dollars. I thought I could pay for the car and 50 dollars back". Salesman says "Let me see that check. The boss is kind of funny about checks". Young man says "There you go. The Neutral Bank is the biggest bank in Chicago. It is as good as gold". Salesman says "Well, I'm sure it will be alright. Endorse it and I'll get you the pink slip". Salesman looks at his signature and says "Edward Fells, Chicago, Illinois. Thanks a lot, Mr. Fells, here's the pink slip." Of course, a few days later, the salesman calls the police department about the bad check.
