Dragnet - The Big Grifter

Detective Sergeant Joe Friday and Captain Bryson are going over the criminal record of a confidence man named Charles Wallace, that has been in and out of jail for the past 35 years. His latest con job involved two used car lot salesmen. On a Saturday, he bought a used car from a salesman, and wrote a check for 1,500 dollars as down payment. About 45 minutes later, he took the car to another used car lot two blocks away, and said that he didn't like the car and wanted to sell it. The second salesman offered him 900 dollars less that what he paid for it. Wallace accepted this, and offered to pay the difference with a personal check. With the banks being closed, the used car dealers could not verify the checks. They got suspicious, called the police, and had him put in jail. However, Wallace still had one more trick up his sleeve.
