The Saint - Hawthorne House Mystery

During a rainstorm, Louie the taxi driver is taking Simon Templar to a dinner party on Long Island. The taxi starts having engine problems and Louie has to pull over on the road. Suddenly, a man is seen running toward the taxi. He stops and asks about a ride back to Glenville, Simon tells him "we would be glad to, but we are stuck here ourselves. How did you get here?" The man says "I'm a cab driver".  Simon asks "where is your cab?"  The man replies "back there, at the Hawthorne House. I was in a hurry to leave because I saw "something" near the cab. No one has lived there in over a hundred years. Earlier, I picked up a passenger who wanted to go there. When we arrived, he got out and said he would be right back. He was inside for a while, so I looked in a window. I saw, what looked like, the original owners of the house sitting around the table.
