The Chase - Blackout
Saturday Dec 27, 2025
Saturday Dec 27, 2025
The patient is in a hospital bed on a gray December morning. He seem to awake behind a curtain of gauze, with a mind that was enshrouded in darkness. He hears a voice that says "Pulse 92, blood pressure 140 over 80, temperature normal. not too bad. Oh, you're awake". The patient says "Yes, I think so". The voice asks "How do you feel?" The patient says "I don't know". The voice says "I'm Dr. Scott". The patient asks "Dr. Scott, am I ill?" Scott says "You were, for 16 weeks". The patient asks "Where am i now?" Scott says "The General Hospital. It seems to me you've been here since they laid the cornerstone". Patient asks "What happened to me? Why do I have all this gauze on my head?" Scott says "You were hit by a car, squarely. Incidentally, it was your own fault, You were crossing the street against the lights while intoxicated. Now, perhaps you'd like to introduce yourself". Patient asks "You mean you don't know who i am?" Scott says "No. Do you?" Patient says "Of course". Scott says "Fine. Who are you?" Patient says "Why, I'm.... uh.... but this is ridiculous. I mean I know who I am". Scott says "I'm afraid you don't. Uh, nurse, luminol, half grain. Here, take this with water". Patient asks "What is it?" Scott says "Something to keep you calm while we talk". The patient takes the medicine. Scott says "That's a good chap. Now, listen to me. I think you're well enough to understand the facts. First of all, you're suffering from amnesia. You've had a complete blackout. At the moment, neither of us knows just who you are or where you came from". Patient asks "But, my clothes? Wasn't any identification in my clothes?" Scott says "When we picked you up, you were wearing a shirt and a pair of trousers. That's all. You'd lost your overcoat and jacket somewhere". Patient asks "You've never been able to identify me?" Scott says "No. You've been in and out of the ether three times since the accident, but this is the first time you've been rational enough to answer questions".

Lux Radio Theater - It's a Wonderful Life
Wednesday Dec 24, 2025
Wednesday Dec 24, 2025
This is the story of George Bailey, a citizen of Bedford Falls, New York. George Bailey who more than anything under the sun wanted to see the world. The wonderful exciting world that lays somewhere beyond the limits of his home town. Oddly enough, this story does not begin in Bedford Falls. In fact, it doesn't begin anywhere in the world. It begins in heaven, where the Superintendent of Angels has just summoned an apprentice angel named Clarence. He asks "I'm really going down to earth, sir? Oh, how splendid". The Superintendent says "Yes, there's a very discouraged man down there, Clarence. His name is George Bailey. At exactly 10:45 PM. earth time, he will be thinking seriously of ending his life. Now, I want you to stop him, if you can. Now, sit down, and I'll give you Bailey's case history". Clarence asks "Sir, if I should accomplish my mission, may I perhaps get my wings? I've been waiting over two hundred years now, and well, people are beginning to talk". The Superintendent says "Clarence, what's that book?" Clarence says "It's The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, sir. I was reading it when you sent for me". The Superintendent says "Oh, fine book, excellent. Well, you do a good job on George Bailey, and we will see about your wings. Now listen, when George Bailey was a boy, two events occurred that you should keep in mind. One was when his young brother Harry fell through the ice and almost drowned. George jumped in and saved him. Ever since, George had a bad ear. All that icy water.... you understand. The other event came a few months later. George worked after school at Mr. Gower's Drugstore. One day, Mr. Gower received a letter saying that his son had died of influenza. In his grief over the loss, Mr. Gower made a terrible mistake with a prescription, but, thankfully, George did not make that delivery.

Let George Do It - The High Price of a Penny
Tuesday Dec 23, 2025
Tuesday Dec 23, 2025
George receives a letter that reads "Dear Mr. Valentine, I'm a prematurely retired lawyer and tax consultant. Neighbors of mine out here in the Fish Lake country, their name is Mum, elderly man and wife, spent a penny once a number of years ago on a lollipop. Let me tell you, the price of that penny is going to be more than a million dollars. In plain words, those nice people are going to be taken. But, I think you and I can stop the swindle with a diamond bracelet. Now here's what I'd like you to do. Telephone the Mums. Tell them you're friends of mine and would like to come visit the country. They know there isn't room for you to stay in my place. Maybe you can't do any good, but at least you can wear down your teeth for a change, biting on the penny. Sincerely, Amos W. Fell". George says "Hmm, spoken like a lawyer". Brooksie says "He certainly has a lot of faith in you, doesn't he?" George says "Million dollar penny, diamond bracelet, lollipops?". Brooksie says "Faith in your curiosity". George says "Well, come on, Brooksie, hand me the phone". George calls the Mum's residence and someone answers the phone. George introduces himself and wants to talk to Mr. and Mrs. Mum. The voice on the line says "Look, Mr. Valentine, they're not home". George asks "Well, when will the Mums be home?" The voice says "When they get tired of being where they are now. And don't ask me where that is, because I don't know". George asks "Well, who's this speaking? One of the servants?" The voice says "Mister, just call back later, will you?" George says "But I'm a friend of Mr. Amos Fell and I wanted to talk...." The voice says "And the housekeeper isn't here either. Sure, sure, Mr. Valentine. I'll be a good boy. I'll write it all down". George says "You're too kind". The voice says "Yeah, and don't be insulted. I'm right in the middle of a poker game and my luck isn't good. My name is Clifford. I'm the Mum's nephew. I've come to live here for a while, so don't worry, they'll get your message all right". George says "Clifford, huh?" He says "Yeah, yeah. Good night. Keep him rolling" and hangs up the phone. George says "Brooksie, maybe there is a penny. A bad penny". Brooksie asks "With the name of Clifford?" George says "Yeah, come on. We're not going to wait for an invitation".

Mr. Barrett Keller, the bank president, is picking up his girlfriend, Jean Raymond, from her job at the theater, in his chauffeured limousine. As she approaches the car, Joe, the chauffer says "Good evening, Miss". She says "Good evening". As she climbs into the backseat, Keller says "Hello". She says "How are you, darling? Hope I didn't keep you waiting too long". Keller says "You're the one who has three shows to do, not me". Joe asks "Where to Mr. Keller?" He says "The Midnight Club, Joseph". Joe says "Yes, sir". Jean says "My, how swank we are tonight". Keller says "Oh, that's right, You've never seen the car before, have you?" Jean says "Well, I never thought the day would come when little Jean turned her nose up at a cab, but after this, I don't know. What type of car have we got? Some fancy foreign make or just a crummy old Rolls?" Keller says "I can see I should have brought the car more often". Jean says "You can say that again. But, I suppose Mrs. Keller has some rights. After all, the wife of a big bank president can't just ride around in any old thing". Keller says "I guess that's about the size of it. Are you cold?" Jean says "With this over me? If the minks don't feel cold, why should I?" Keller says "You like the coat, huh?" Jean says "You know something, honey, you're going to spoil me, furs, jewelry, a chauffeured limo for a five block ride". Keller says "I want to spoil you, Jean. I want to give you everything you ever longed for". Jean says "Well, I got quite a list". Joe says "The Midnight Club, sir". Jean asks "Aren't you coming in to see the show?" Keller says "I've seen it, let's see, about fifty times". Jean says "Afterword?" Keller says "No, not tonight". Jean says "Why not?" Keller says "I thought we agreed, no questions". Jean says "Sorry". Keller says "It's alright, Joseph, I'll see Miss Raymond in". Keller escorts her into the club, then comes back to the car. As they leave, Joe says "Nice dish". Keller says "Told you". Joe says "Nothing like seeing for yourself. Where to?" Keller says "The bus stop on Fifth Street. I can hop out there". Joe says "If you're going uptown to the gambling joint, I guess I could take you". Keller says" No, you've done enough already, Joe. I can't thank you enough". Joe says "Forget it. What my boss doesn't know, won't hurt him".

Escape - When the Man Comes, Follow Him
Monday Dec 22, 2025
Monday Dec 22, 2025
Mr. Heineman is a smart racket boss in San Francisco. The other mobsters in the city respected him and stayed out of his territory. Heineman was also cultured. He loved music, and loved playing the violin. He treated the men who worked for him well, especially the one named Pascal. Heineman trusted Pascal, because for the past fifteen years, Mr. Heineman has been completely blind. Currently, in Mr. Heineman's top floor apartment, Pascal is looking out of his picture window. Heineman says "Come on, Pascal. Eyes, man. Give me eyes". Pascal says "It's foggy down there, boss. I can't see the bay". Heineman says "What about the street below us? What's going on down there? Pascal says "Nothing. Just street cars and taxis going up and down with a few people. Not very many". Heineman says "Alright, forget it. You can come away from the window. I just have a feeling that something's going to happen". Pascal asks "Happen? What's gonna happen?" Heineman says "I don't know. Something". Just then, the telephone rang. Pascal says "I'll get it, boss. After a few seconds, Pascal says "That was the manager. Your brother's here from Phoenix". Heineman says "Mark? He's downstairs?" Pascal says "Yeah, he's on his way up. The manager couldn't stop him. He says he looks like he's in pretty bad shape" Heineman says "Ever see a desert rat that didn't?" Pascal says "No. I wonder what he wants". Heineman says "Money, as usual. Three or four hundred dollars will finance another six months of prospecting". After a few seconds, Heineman says "I can hear the elevator stopping. Better open the door" Mark staggers to the door and says "Help me". Pascal says "Boss, he's hurt herself. He's weak and trembling. He's holding on to the door frame with his right hand, and holding his chest with the other hand. I think he's been shot, boss". Mark says "Yes, shot. Help me". Pascal helps Mark to the couch. Heineman asks "What happened, Mark?" Mark says "I had to get here. I want you to have it. So he can't". Heineman says "Pascal, get Brian and Daly over here. Brian knows a lot about gunshot wounds. Who shot you Mark?"

The Black Museum - The Jack Handle
Monday Dec 22, 2025
Monday Dec 22, 2025
During the war, London lived in the blackout, and many American soldiers found their after-dark amusement in tiny hole-in-the-wall cafes. Small places with a few tables, not much light, and the blackout curtains. The girl singing is pretty in a tawdry sort of way, but the two young men, named Ted and Tom, in the American uniforms don't seem to mind. Ted says "How's about it, Tom? Not bad for a dive?" Tom says "Not too bad. Five will get you ten, it's out of bounds" Ted says "Not yet. it just opened. The MP's haven't cased the joint yet". Their interest shifts, and quite naturally, of course, to the singer. Tom says "She's not too bad. Maybe she dates". Ted says "You wouldn't know what to do about it if she does". Tom says "Says who?" Ted says "Says me. What did you do, stateside, anyway?" Tom says "I worked in a bank. So what? I got along. I did all right". Ted says "Hiding in the Army?" Tom says "Hiding in the.... oh, maybe. Could be. Look, Teddy, what you don't know won't hurt you, see". Ted asks "That apply to Gracie?" Tom says "Gracie? You mean the babe?" Ted says "Who else? Grace Harwell". Tom asks "You know her?" Ted says "I met her a couple of times". He calls her over to their table. Gracie says "Well, Teddy, the yank who thought he'd take Soho single-handed". Ted says "Sit down, Gracie. What'll you have?" She says "My regular. Who's your friend?" Ted says "Oh, meet Private Tom Bennett, Gracie Harwell". Tom says "Hi". She says "Hello, soldier". Ted gets up and says "Let me get you a drink, Gracie", and goes toward the bar. Tom says "Grace?" She says "Yeah?" Tom says "How would you like to help me win a bet?" Gracie says "Well, this is a new approach". Tom says "Good. Now, look, all I need to win, is a date with you, see, for tomorrow night. Well, how about it? After the show?" Gracie asks "You on furlough?" Tom says "Maybe. Maybe not. I'll be in town tomorrow night". She asks "Got a car with petrol?" Tom says "No, but I will have". She says "You said it like you meant it". Tom says "I will have a car and gas". Gracie says "I'm not saying for sure, but be outside at one o'clock in the morning. You may win your bet"

Sunday Dec 21, 2025
Mr. Henry Corwin, normally unemployed, who once a year takes the lead role in the uniquely American institution, that of the department store Santa Claus. However, he has just spent his break time in the bar across the street, and is late returning to his temporary position. Mr. Dundee, the department store manager, says "You're an hour late". Corwin says "I am?" Dundee says "One hour and nine minutes to be exact. Now I advise you to get up on your throne without further ado". Corwin says I'm going, I'm going". Dundee says "And refrain from disillusioning these children any further". Corwin says "All right, all right, I'm going". Dundee says "By showing them that not only isn't there a Santa Claus, but the one in this store happens to be a wino who'd be more at home playing Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer". Corwin says "I take your point, Mr Dundee. Stand aside, Saint Nick is back on the job". A mother with a young boy says "Go ahead climb up on his lap. He won't hurt you, will you Santa? You won't hurt my little boy. Go on, you tell him what you want for Christmas". Santa asks "What's your name, lad?" The boy says "Percival". Santa says "You're putting me on". The boy says "Percival Smithers, the third. My dad's name was Percival Smithers, and my grandfather's name was Percival Smithers". Santa says "Oh, I get it. Well, I guess that's not your fault. So, what would you like for Christmas, young Percival?" He says "A new front name". Santa laughs and says "That's a good one. A real good one. I got to remember it". Percival says "Hey Ma, I smell something funny". His mother says "You do?" Percival says "Yeah, and I know what it is too. The same as Dad. Santa Claus is loaded". His mother says "Leave my boy alone!" Santa says "Lady, I never laid a glove on the kid". She says "Oh, you've got some nerve, drinking on the job!" Santa says "Madam, I am morally ashamed". She says "You should be. Come along, Percival. I hope this won't scar you for life".

Mr. Chameleon - The Case of Murder and the Man Who Saw Too Much
Saturday Dec 20, 2025
Saturday Dec 20, 2025
At twilight, in that lively section of New York City where Broadway crosses Columbus Circle, already electric signs are flashing in the dark and the sidewalks are swarming with hurrying masses. Lost in that crowd is the figure of a man stalking another man like a panther stalking its prey, until suddenly the air is shattered by a cry of pain and terror. The victim says "I've been stabbed! I've been, oh, stabbed!" Millicent, standing nearby, says "Oh, no. How ghastly!" She asks her fiancée "Wilfred, did you see that?" Wilfred says "Yes I saw it, and I saw the man who stabbed him! Catch him, catch him somebody, the man in the gray suit! Don't let him get away!" Someone asks "What's happened?" Another man nearby says "It's murder! A man's been stabbed to death! Somebody said a man in a gray suit did it!". Sometime later, at Central Police Headquarters, the Police Commissioner is talking to Mr. Chameleon about the incident. The Commissioner says "That's all we have to go on, Chameleon. Some unidentified man who was with a woman cried out that a man in a gray suit did it. Chameleon says "Well that's something, Commissioner. Maybe the two witnesses will come forward and give us a more complete description of the killer". Commissioner says "Yeah, but you know how people are scared to death to get involved in a thing like this". Chameleon says "Certainly the killer wasn't lacking a nerve, stabbing a man to death in the early evening on a crowded street". Commissioner says "And a man like Carl Lynch". Chameleon says "Yes, we belong to several of the same clubs. Carl Lynch was a wealthy bachelor, high up in the banking business, and a patron of the arts. The killer had his nerve to strike him down right under the nose of the police". Commissioner says "That seems to annoy you, Chameleon". He says "Well, certainly it does. It's been three hours since Lynch was murdered. The witnesses really should turn up very soon, for their sake. They should come to the police. The longer they stay away, the more dangerous it is for everyone".

The Adventures of Philip Marlowe - The Dancing Hands
Saturday Dec 20, 2025
Saturday Dec 20, 2025
After a long and roundabout day, Philip Marlowe found a telegram stuck in his mail slot when he got back to his office. The telegram read "Enclosed, find a 50 dollar money order. I want you to investigate a man. A table is reserved for you at the Saddle Club where I work. Come in time for the second show at 11:00 PM, important. Signed, Beth Tyler". So, at a quarter to 11:00, Marlowe drove over the Cahuenga Freeway and ventured out to the Saddle Club, Quickly after entering, Neil Redmond, owner and operator of the place, came toward Marlowe, sporting his genial host smile, which seemed even more forced than usual. Neil says "How are you, Marlowe? It's been a long time. Business or pleasure?" Marlowe says "It's always a pleasure to come to the Saddle Club, Neil. I've even got a reservation". Neil says "You know my food better than that, Marlowe. Just don't let it get rough, will you? Come on, I'll find your table out front. I want you to see this show. A pair of twins in a twin piano act that's sensational". Marlowe says "Yeah?" Neil says "Edie and Beth Tyler. Incidentally, Edie will be the one on the left". Marlowe says "What, they're twins? What's the difference?" Neil says "Funny. Edie may be Mrs. Redmond one of these days". Just then, one of his employee says to Neil "You are wanted on the phone, sir". Neil says "Get the number, George, and I'll call back". George says "This gentleman said you would talk to him, sir. It is Mr. Paul Sider". Neil says "Paul Sider? Oh, yeah, excuse me, Marlowe, this is important". Marlowe noticed that Neil reacted to the name "Sider" like a punch in the nose, but that was none of his business, which was more than he could say for a flabby, dull-faced character sitting at the next table, who followed the nightclub owner all the way out of the room with a pair of watery red eyes. But at that point, an emcee stepped out on the stage, so Marlowe stopped worrying about flabby in favor of a first look at my client. The emcee says "The Saddle Club is now to present its second show of evening, featuring the incomparable piano stylists, Edie and Beth in Dancing Hands".

The Whistler - Malice
Friday Dec 19, 2025
Friday Dec 19, 2025
Dr. Jacob Benton is the wealthiest citizen in the town, as well as its most prominent physician and surgeon. He is also proud of the fact that he comes from a long line of highly successful surgeons. His greatest ambition is that his son, Tom, will follow in his footsteps and carry on the family tradition. Jacob also has a nephew, Harvey, the son of his brother, George, who married a girl from the wrong side of the town. Later, George disappeared, leaving Jacob to take care of his young son. After finishing high school, Tom and Harvey entered medical school. Harvey followed through and is to graduate next week. But Jacob's son, Tom, at the end of his third year, wandered over to the east bottoms at the lower end of town and met a girl. He lost interest in medicine and refused to go back to school. After a late night, Jacob sees Tom returning home, and asks him "Where have you been? It's two o'clock in the morning". Tom says "I've been to a house party". Jacob says "Where? On the other side of town?" Tom says "Yes. In the east bottoms". Jacob says "You've seen that girl, that Nita again, haven't you?" Tom says "Yes. What of it?" Jacob says "I've told you time and again that you don't belong over there, with her". Tom says "I like Nita because she's honest and genuine. She's not filled with a lot of silly ideas like Eloise". Jacob says "Eloise is a fine girl. She belongs to an excellent family". Tom says "Oh bosh. Eloise is a phony. Nita is a real person". Jacob says "If you become serious about this girl, you'll be ostracized". Tom says "I know. I know all about poor Uncle George. He went over to the east bottoms and met a girl and went to the dogs. But it wasn't the girl, he was no good in the first place". Jacob says "He was a stubborn fool just like you. Are you in love with this girl?" Tom says "Yes". Jacob says "I'm terribly disappointed in you, Tom. You were wrapped up in your studies until you met her. This girl has made a fool of you. Oh, I could kill her". Tom says "I think I'd better go to bed. Good night". Jacob says "Good night, young idiot. As Tom leaves the room. Jacob says to himself "Something's got to be done about this, at once".

The Man Called X - Operation Fifty
Friday Dec 19, 2025
Friday Dec 19, 2025
It was in 1945 in the Mauthausen concentration camp in Germany that the Man Called X first learned of the existence of the Himmler plates, but it was not until five years later that he heard of them again when a phone call came into the Bureau from Uruguay Intelligence in Montevideo. Inspector Reza says "I tell you Senor Thurston, there can be no mistake". Ken asks "What about the scroll work, Inspector?" He says "Well, there are slight irregularities in the lower left corner". Ken asks "And in the serial numbers?" The Inspector says "The figure four is closed rather than being open". Ken says "Thanks for informing us, Inspector. I'll join you in Montevideo in twenty four hours. Adios, Inspector". Ken hangs up the phone and says "Chief, they've turned up again, the Himmler plates". Chief says "The Himmler plates? Good Lord, Ken." Ken says "I see you remember them". Chief says "How could I forget them. Why those Nazi engraving plates turned out the most perfect counterfeit American fifty dollar bills ever made". Ken says "That's right. Hitler's gang used millions of dollars worth to buy war materials from neutral nations". Chief says "But Ken, we found records stating that the plates had been destroyed". Ken says "What if the records were faked and the Himmler plates were smuggled out of Germany?" Chief says "Well, if they were, this will be a job for the Treasury, not for the Bureau". Ken says "The Inspector says the bills are being passed in Montevideo by a bureau agent". Chief says "Well, that's impossible. We don't have any men assigned down there". Ken says "That's right, Chief". The Chief turns on the intercom and says "Miss Brooks, book passage for Ken Thurston on the first plane to Montevideo, Uruguay". Ken says "Thanks, Chief. I'll be seeing you. By the way, you want me to give your regards to Pagon?" Chief says What's that chiseling crook got to do with this?" Ken says "Oh, didn't I tell you? Our non-existent agent down there is Pagon Zeldschmitt".

21st Precinct - The Dog Day
Thursday Dec 18, 2025
Thursday Dec 18, 2025
At 3:55 PM, Captain Frank Cannelli, commander of the 21st Precinct Police Department, came in to the station for his night tour, which would keep him on the job until 8:00 AM of the following morning. As he signed in on the blotter, Sergeant Burns, who was filling in as the desk officer, told him that Mr. Bally, the Acting Superintendent of buildings of the department, was in the house making a routine inspection. Cannelli went upstairs and found Mr. Bally on the third floor. Cannelli called his attention to the cracked plaster in the hall ceiling on that floor and to the fact that during the last winter the radiators failed to heat the floor comfortably. On the way down, Cannelli showed him the worn condition of the stairs from the second floor to the back room. He also spoke to him about the plumbing difficulties in the cells. Later, in the Muster Room, Mr. Bally says "Well, thanks Captain". Canelli asks "Do you have any idea when these repairs will be made?" He says "Well, there's a lot of work to do, Captain. There are nearly one hundred buildings in the department and most of them need work, lots of work". Canelli says "Oh yes, I understand that but some need attention sooner than others, don't you think?" Bally says "Oh yes, some do, that's why I'm making the inspection". Cannelli says "Well, this muster room, for instance, hasn't been painted since 1941. Did you realize that?" Mr. Bally says "Captain, you know I'd like to do everything and I'd like to do it right away but there's been only so much money appropriated. Well, it's been a pleasure, Captain. I need to sign the blotter and get on my way. I'm a little bit behind schedule". As Bally is about to leave, Cannelli says "What's doing Sergeant?" Kline says "Oh nothing much, Captain, except that young fellow over there is waiting to see you". Cannelli asks "Who is he? Do you know?" Kline says "He says his name is Harold Wheel". Cannelli says "I'll speak with him". Cannelli walks over and says "Mr. Wheel, what can I do for you?" Wheel says "Well listen, Captain I'm sorry to bother you, but I got an awful problem. It's my kid". Cannelli asks "What's the trouble?" Wheel says "Well, she got bit by a dog".

Richard Diamond, Private Detective - The Thomas Jason Case
Thursday Dec 18, 2025
Thursday Dec 18, 2025
A man named Thomas Jason, a retired stockbroker, has stopped by Richard's office to hire him. Richard says "What is your problem Mr. Jason? He says "It's Carol, my adopted daughter. We adopted her when she was twelve, but my wife died shortly after. Frankly, Carol has been in trouble ever since". Richard asks "And now?" Jason says "Now, I'm afraid it is no longer a matter of delinquency. Well, there have been several incidents that make me suspect that she's trying to do away with me". Richard says "Sweet girl. What's her reason?" Jason says "My money. In my will, she is my only heir". Richard asks "Why not change the will?" Jason says "I said I suspected her, but I'm not certain, Mr. Diamond. And you understand, it would be terrible to disinherit her If I am wrong about my suspicions, I simply must be sure before I change my will". Richard asks "She have any idea of your suspicion?" Jason says "Yes. This morning I did speak to her. I mentioned the possibility of cutting her from my will. She flew into a rage, made several terrible threats". Richard says "Oh, what do you want me to do?" Jason says "Well, sir, I want you to either prove my fears to be true or groundless. If I am right, I will change my will, of course". Richard says "Where do I start?" Jason says "Come to my house at three o'clock this afternoon. Here's the address. I'll introduce you to my stepdaughter, Carol, as a business acquaintance. After you've met and talked with her, I'll give you what details I have about her threats and actions. Richard says "Okay, Mr. Jason. I'll be there". Having some extra time before the meeting, Richard stopped by the Fifth Precinct to talk to Lieutenant Walt Levinson. Richard says "I just wanted to see if you had any information on the Thomas Jason family". Levinson says "There's nothing on him, but plenty on his step daughter Carol". Richard says "Like what?" Levinson says "She's a regular. Usually D&D, drunk driving, disturbing the peace". Later, at the Jason residence for the meeting, Richard was ushered into the library. Soon, Carol comes in to the room and says "I'm afraid you can't see him, Mr. Diamond. You see, he's become quite ill".

Barrie Craig, Confidential Investigator - Fog Over Murder
Wednesday Dec 17, 2025
Wednesday Dec 17, 2025
For Barrie Craig, this was an unusual assignment. He was contacted by a psychiatrist named Dr. Vanner in regards to the identity of one of his patients. At their meeting, Dr. Vanner says "This is an unusual thing for me, Mr. Craig, to consult with a detective". Barrie says "This is an unusual joint for me to be in, so we're even". Vanner says "Now, this patient that I will discuss with you, I've worked with him for months with encouraging results". Barrie says "Start off with his name". Vanner says "His name is temporarily Clark Smith". Barrie says "Temporarily?" Vanner says "A symptom of his ailment is amnesia. He resists his own true identity". Barrie says "He doesn't want to remember who he is, huh?" Vanner says "Yes, in a manner of speaking". Barrie says "That's bad". Vanner asks "Well, why do you say that?" Barrie says "From a cop's point of view, disregarding the medicine, a guy only tries to lose his identity for a pretty grim reason. Some crime he doesn't want to answer to". Vanner says "Oh, there is such a possibility, yes". Barrie asks "Still think you want to make a police case out of this Clark Smith?" Vanner says "Well, there is the risk that you suggest. I have thought of that. Restore this man to his own identity, but with an unhappy result". Barrie says "He faces the consequences of a crime. Capture, trial, and sentence". Vanner says "But if this risk is not taken, it's equally critical for Clark Smith". Barrie says "Meaning the shape he's presently in, huh?" Vanner says "Depressed, malingering, sick with anxieties, he cannot function as a social being. He hides from the world. Yes, he interests me, this Clark Smith. I would like to help him find himself. Help him to face his reality". Barrie says "Only your medicine goes just so far". Vanner says "I need a detective, such as you, to associate with the case. There are facts to ascertain, the special things in which you are a specialist, and in which my science is helpless".

CBS Radio Mystery Theater - Honeymoon with Death
Wednesday Dec 17, 2025
Wednesday Dec 17, 2025
Shortly after returning home, Jennifer says "It was a wonderful honeymoon, Howard. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed it. Adored it. But you know something? Howard, you know something?" Howard says "What, Jennifer?" Jennifer says "It's wonderful to be back home. These last ten days driving back from San Francisco, I kept thinking, when, oh when, will I be back in my own bedroom, in my own bed, in my own little old New York brownstone house? Oh, I shouldn't have said that, should I?" Howard asks "What? Said what, Jennifer?" Jennifer asks "Am I bothering you with all my chatter, Howard?" He says "Bothering me? How could you possibly bother me, sweetheart? I just trying to catch up with all that mail Margaret left on the living room table. Now tell me, what was it you shouldn't have said?" She says "What? Oh, I've forgotten". He says "Something about your own little old New York brownstone house". She says "Oh, what I meant, is that it's not just mine anymore. It's yours now, too". He says "And your sister Maggie's. You both inherited this old brownstone from your father. Though, I must say, I think that you, I mean, we have the better of the bargain". She asks "What do you mean? He says "I much prefer this top floor apartment. Don't you?" She says "Oh, yes. Luckily, Maggie always preferred the downstairs part. No climbing stairs". He says "Well, you can finish brushing your hair. I'll look at that mail in the living room". As Howard walks toward the living room, Jennifer says "Howard? What about the car? You think it's safe parked out in the street? He says "One night won't hurt". She says "I'd feel awful if anything happened to it. Howard? You locked the car, didn't you? Howard?" Jennifer walks toward the lining room and says "Can you hear me? I asked you...." Suddenly, Jennifer screams "Oh my God! Maggie come up here! Maggie help me! Howard has been murdered! Jennifer runs down the stairs and into the front yard. Maggie says "Come back into the house! Stop yelling and come back in. I'll call the doctor!" Jennifer goes into the house and says "I don't need the doctor, Howard is dead! He's been stabbed!" Maggie says "Sit down on the couch and try to control yourself. There is no one named Howard here".

The Lives of Harry Lime - The Third Woman
Tuesday Dec 16, 2025
Tuesday Dec 16, 2025
During his time in the military, Corporal Harry Lime was tasked with an important assignment. His first task was to meet with an Army Major. Later, while looking over Harry's file, the Major says "You know something Corporal Lime? If we could prove half of this stuff in your file you'd be celebrating your hundredth birthday in a military prison". Harry says "Yes, sir. I dare say so, sir". The Major says "Shut up and listen. You report to the address on this slip of paper. It's a tailor on Savile Road. The tailor has his instructions. He's to make you three suits, including the full soup and fish and the whole outfits, to be ready in 48 hours. Isn't that awful?" Harry says "Yes, sir". Major says "Wait a minute, it gets worse. You go to the Savoy Hotel. A room is reserved there for you. You'll register as a civilian, and for purposes of cutting red tape, you're going to be a civilian. Here are your papers. Look at them". Harry says "Yes, sir". Major says "See how you're traveling?" Harry says "Well, yes sir, but this must be a joke". Major says "Oh it's funny all right, but it's true. The Allied Command sending you on a holiday, Corporal Lime, and you're traveling as a civilian with the rank of full Colonel". Harry got his new suits and was sent to see Captain Smith. The meeting was set up for midnight, on the right side of Cleopatra's Needle in London. Later, at the meeting point, a man approaches Harry and asks him a set of three questions. Harry gave his answer to each. The man says "Splendid, Mr. Lime. All the answers are perfectly correct. Silly questions, and answers too, but it makes them easier to remember". Harry says "Right, if you say so, Captain Smith. Smith says "Well now, let's get down to cases. We've borrowed you from your people, Lime, because of your special qualifications, such as being able to speak several languages, your looks, a certain rather celebrated aptitude for the opposite sex, and a fair share of unmitigated gall". Harry says "Yes sir". Smith says "Don't call me sir. Remember this isn't the army and, not strictly speaking, this is another show. What do you think of spying Lime? Harry says "Well, I do not know. I've never tried".

The Adventures of Rocky Jordan - The Big Heist
Tuesday Dec 16, 2025
Tuesday Dec 16, 2025
In the afternoon, Rocky was walking toward the British Embassy in Cairo. One of his customers at the Tambourine last night accidentally left their passport behind, and Rocky was turning it over to the Consul, so that it could be returned to it's owner. Once Rocky arrived at the Embassy, he met with the Counsel Secretary, who was busy spreading red polish on her fingernails. She says "Yes, May I help you?" Rocky says "My name is Jordan. I run the Cafe Tambourine. One of your nationals left his passport in my place last night. Would you see to it that he gets it?" She says "Oh yes, just toss it on that pile. I think my nails are still wet. Oh thanks so much Mr. Jordan". Rocky says "Excuse me a moment Miss...." She says "Buckley, Helen Buckley". Rocky says "I couldn't help seeing that telegram lying on your desk. It says it's from MacLean. Could that be Freddie MacLean from London?" Miss Buckley says "Why, yes" Rocky says "He flew with the RAF? Flies British Transport now?" Miss Buckley says "Same one". Rocky says "We're old friends. We always get together every time he makes Cairo. He's coming in?" Miss Buckley says "Yes. Telegram says to keep Thursday night open". Rocky says "I don't like to break in on anything, but how about you and I meeting him at the airport together, and have supper on me. We can rehash old times a bit. Then, well you two can carry on from there". Miss Buckley says "Well...." Rocky says "It was just a suggestion, skip it". Miss Buckley says "No, no, it might even be fun. It's a date, Mr. Jordan" He says "Make it Rocky". Later that evening, Rocky and Helen Buckley are at the Cairo Airport when they hear the PA system announce "British Transport, Flight Six One, arriving now from London". Helen says "That should be Freddie's plane". The big plane taxied up to Gate Four, and passengers started to disembark. Then, all the crew came out. Freddie MacLean was not among them. Rocky and Helen ask a few questions, but no one knew anything. Just then, Rocky sees an armored car with two guards and Captain Sam Sabaya's police car.

Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar - The Saturday Night Matter
Tuesday Dec 16, 2025
Tuesday Dec 16, 2025
Johnny gets a call from Peter H. Filmore at the office of Surety Mutual Insurance Limited in Denver. He wants Johnny to investigate a racket that has been costing his company a lot of money. Johnny asks "What kind of a racket?" Filmore says "Robberies. Grocery store robberies. A whole series of them". Johnny asks "What's being taken? Cash or goods?" Filmore says "Cash, on Saturday nights with most discouraging regularity. But Dollar, with all the facts I can give you, well, I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to round up the gang that's doing this in short order". Johnny asks "You think there's a gang involved?" Filmore says "That's my conclusion, and I'm certain you'll agree with it when I give you the information I have. There also may be some danger involved in this investigation". Johnny says "Oh, that's the understatement of the week". Later, Johnny catches a flight from Hartford to Denver, and takes a taxi to the offices of Surety Mutual Insurance Limited. In a meeting with Peter Filmore, Johnny asks if the robberies have been taking place mainly in Denver. Filmore says "No, Dollar, all over the state in a regular pattern. A pattern that has finally enabled me to realize there is a connection between these robberies". Johnny says "Well, you better tell me all about it, Mr. Filmore". He says "Every robbery has occurred on a Saturday night". Johnny says "When the markets are likely to have more cash on hand". Filmore says "Exactly. The first robbery was right here in Denver. The next in Pueblo, then Colorado Springs, Aurora, Lakewood, Englewood, and Greeley. Last Saturday, a week ago tonight, the Casey Market over in Boulder was robbed. True to pattern". Johnny says "I'm afraid I don't quite see it". Filmore says "Well, Denver, the largest city in the state, then Pueblo, the next largest. Then Colorado Springs, next in size to Pueblo. Then Aurora, and so on down the line".

Mr. Keen, Tracer of Lost Persons - The Case of Murder and the Jewel Thief
Tuesday Dec 16, 2025
Tuesday Dec 16, 2025
The telephone in Mr. Keen's office is ringing, and Mike Clancy reaches for the receiver. Mike answers, and the voice on the line says "Is this Mr. Keen?" Mike says "No, this is his partner, Mike Clancy speaking". The voice says "May I talk to Mr. Keen? It's very important". Mike says "Well, who's calling, please?" The voice says "Tell him it's Mr. Carl Rollins". Mike says "Well, just a second. Mr. Keen, There's a fellow named Carl Rollins who wants a word with you. He says it's important". Keen says "All right, Mike, I'll take it. Hello?" Carl says "Mr. Keen, This is Carl Rollins. I've got to see you right away". Keen says "In regard to what, Mr. Rollins?" Carl says "Well, I can't talk about it now over the phone, but if it means anything to you, I'm also known as Kansas Carl". Keen says "Kansas Carl?" Mike says "Kansas Carl, the jewel thief the cops have been after for months?" Keen says "Just a moment, Mike. Mr. Rollins, where are you calling from?" Carl says "My room's on 10th Street, number 892, apartment 4D". Keen says "Alright, you'll wait there for me?" Carl says "Yes, I'll...." Suddenly, gunshots are heard over the phone. Keen says "Mr. Rollins, Hello? Hello?" Mike asks "What happened, boss? Keen says "I heard revolver shots, Mike. We've got to get over to Rollins' apartment right away". A few minutes later, they arrive at the address. Mike says "This must be the flat, Mr. Keen. There's his name over the doorbell. The door is open, boss". Keen says "Let's go in and keep your gun handy, Mike". They take a few steps inside. Mike says "The room is empty, Mr. Keen" He says "So, it seems. Just a minute, Mike. Do you smell anything?" Mike says "Sure, I smell powder. A gun was discharged in this room a little while ago". Keen says "There's no doubt that those were pistol shots I heard over the telephone. Mike look at the floor". Mike says "There's blood running along the crack in the wood there". Keen says "It's coming from under that couch. Quickly, Mike. Pull the couch away from the wall". They find the dead body, with two bullets in his head. They find a wallet in his pocket. Keen says "This identifies him as Carl Rollins, the man who phoned our office. He was shot down before he could say why he got in touch with me".

Defense Attorney - Client Grady Daniels
Monday Dec 15, 2025
Monday Dec 15, 2025
Martha Ellis Bryant, a defense attorney, and Jud Barnes, a reporter for the Dispatch, are driving to the jail to meet with a possible client, Grady Daniels, who is charged with murder. Jud says "Marty, I wouldn't touch that case if I were you". Martha asks "Why not, Jud?" He says "Well, for one thing, the police already have the ink on the solved stamp. The victim practically identified the killer before he died". Martha says "Practically isn't enough. What else?" Jud says "The murder weapon belonged to Daniels". Martha asks "Has that been proven?" Jud says "Yes, he admits it". Martha asks "Is there any doubt about it being the murder weapon?" Jud says "None whatsoever. It fits the wounds and it was found nearby covered with blood". Martha asks "What does Daniels say?" Jud says "He was picked up three miles from the scene of the crime and claimed he lost the knife while he was hunting" Martha says "Well, that could happen. Grady Daniels wife, Hester, had just left my office when I telephoned you. She said that Daniels could never kill another man". Jud says "Another? Martha says "Yes. She said he was overseas with the Marines for two years. He said he'd had enough killing to last him a lifetime. I want to talk to him, Jud". He says "All right, Marty, but the Dispatch covered the investigation and the whole story can be told in a half dozen lines. How? Something like this. Vet goes hunting. Farms are all posted no hunting. Vet figures he fought for the country and should be allowed to hunt in it. Argues with farmer. Stabs him". Martha asks "Is that what the police claim?" Jud says "Yes, and they've got the evidence to go with it". Martha says "But it's all circumstantial, and I don't like circumstantial evidence, Jud. Circumstance isn't above dealing a card from the bottom". Jud says "This case could hurt you, Marty". Martha asks "Oh, how can it hurt me?" Jud says "Well, you're going to be on the losing side of an open and shut, smalltime, unimportant case". Martha says "It's a very important case to at least two people, the accused man and his wife".

This Is Your FBI - The Corrupt City
Sunday Dec 14, 2025
Sunday Dec 14, 2025
Detective Donovan stops by the Police Chief's office and asks him "Did you want to see me, Chief? The Chief says "Yes, come in, Donovan. If I were asked what I think of you and your work, I'd say you're one of the most promising young men on the force". Donovan says "Thank you, sir". Chief says "The thing that really sold me on your earnestness about your work, was last fall when you asked for a leave so you could attend the FBI's National Academy, and at your own expense too. And that diploma you came back with, well, I guess I was almost as proud of it as you were". Donovan says "Thanks, Chief". Chief says "You have a great future ahead of you as a law enforcement officer, if you can stand the test of hard knocks. They can come in a million forms. Sometimes, they're hard enough to break a man's spirit completely, if he's not strong enough to take it". Donovan says "Yes, sir". Chief says "I want to personally commend you, Donovan, for the arrest you made two nights ago at Pier 26. Donovan says Thank you, sir". The chief says "I read your report and I think you're on the right track. Somehow that gang of river thieves has got to be broken up". Donovan says "I bungled the job the other night by getting only one, but I'll get the rest of them, sir. Chief says "the man you arrested was released this morning". Donovan asks "What did you say, sir?" The Chief says "Mike Haynes was released this morning". Donovan says "Released?" Chief says "Here is your first test in the school of hard knocks, Donovan. This is a statement from the councilman that is in charge of our appropriation. You may read it all later, but I'll read only the last paragraph. It reads "So therefore, in view of the evidence furnished me by reliable authority, my conclusion is that Detective Donovan acted wholly without cause and recklessly endangered the lives of the crew by the unprovoked and unjustified use of his pistol. Therefore, I demand his transfer to another assignment patrolling a beat and his promotion canceled".

Gang Busters - The Case of the Battle on the Staircase
Saturday Dec 13, 2025
Saturday Dec 13, 2025
Not far from the picturesque town of Oceanside, Oregon, a small park overlooks the blue waters of the Pacific Ocean. This is a peaceful place where someone's thoughts might be pleasant and good, only the thoughts of two young men in bathing suits didn't fit the countryside at all. Burt says "Red, I was just thinking. I guess a day like this makes you think, huh? Lying out here looking up at those clouds...." Red says "Where's Carole, Burt?" He says "Oh, still down there swimming, I guess. She'll be back. Like I was saying, I've been thinking about your idea. Are you sure it will work?" Red says "Oh now look, nobody's sure of anything. All I know is, Burt, I just got a peculiar habit, see. I like dough. I like lots of it. I like throwing money around on women". Burt says "That's sure, who don't?" Red says "Alright now, are you in or out? I'm pulling out of here in the morning". Just then, Carole returns and says "Hey, you guys going to take a dip? That water is sure cold, but a peps you up". Red says "Hey, you look good in a bathing suit, Carole". She says "You see, Burt, other guys know how to say nice things". Burt says "Oh now, I always thought you look good, honey, you know that". Red says "Well, time to head back". Carole says "So soon? I thought we could stay all afternoon. Red says "Oh, I got things to do. Did Burt tell you? I'm pulling out in the morning. Carole says "You are? Gee, we'll miss you Red. Won't we, Burt?" Red says "Huh? Well, will you Burt? Go ahead and answer the girl". Burt says "We'll talk about that later, huh?" Carole says "Talk about what? What goes?" Burt says "Well, Carole, look, uh, me and Red, well that is...." Red says "I'm going to get me some dough, starting tomorrow, a lot of dough and I asked Burt if he wants in". Carole says "Get dough how?" Red says "Oh, I've got a lot of ways. It's going to take time, though, a month, maybe longer. Carole looks at Burt and says "You're leaving? You just get out of San Quentin and you're leaving again?" Burt says "I need money too. Carol how can we have any fun if I'm broke all the time?" Carole says "Just answer my question. Are you leaving?" Burt says "Yeah, I guess I am". After a few seconds of silence, Burt says "Honey, just say something". Carole says "You dirty stinking rat".

Jeff Regan, Investigator - A Claw, A Corkscrew, A Coffin, and A Crab
Saturday Dec 13, 2025
Saturday Dec 13, 2025
Jeff Regan just walked into Anthony J. Lyon's office. The Lion says "Now sit down, Jeffery. You're just the man I wanted to see. I was just about to phone you. Juliette Jones..." Regan says "Our new client?". Lion says "Yeah, our new client wants you out in Inglewood, right away. Her life's in danger". Regan says "That's all?" Lion says "Yes, she wants protection, a bodyguard Jeffrey. Here's the address". Regan says "Juliette Jones, 712 Garbanzo Avenue, Inglewood". Lion says "Oh, she was beautiful, my boy. She came here to the office an hour and a half ago. Lovely, lovely, and never, Jeffrey, in all my vast experience as the president of the Lyon Detective Bureau, has it been my privilege to see such a gorgeous... and oh, she had a voice my boy. Well, it stroked you when she talked, and she smelled, as a matter of fact, Regan, she smelled of tea". Regan says "Tea?" Lion says "She's a Broken Pekoe Tea tester". Regan says "You don't tell me". Lion says "Yeah, I do. She feels, smells, and tastes Broken Pekoe tea. It's the very best, Jeffrey, the best black tea. Of course, she wouldn't think of testing Green or Oolong Tea, or so she said". Regan says "Sure. Anything else that'll help?" Lion says "Well, there was one thing, now, we mustn't jump to any rash conclusions, Jeffrey, but everything she had on, everything, was brand new and all very expensive, very expensive". Regan says "Maybe some guy likes her". Lion says "Yes, I suppose that would be it". Regan says "Look, Lyon, if you think she's a phony we just don't take her case". Lion says "Now Regan, don't start that". Regan says "What's the matter? She give us dough?" Lion says "Juliette Jones advanced us 400 dollars". Regan says "That's a broth of clams". Lion says "Yes, it is. Look here, my boy, just look - one, two, three, four. Four one hundred dollar bills. Oh, Jeffrey, isn't life wonderful?"

The Epic Casebook - Murder on the Brain
Saturday Dec 13, 2025
Saturday Dec 13, 2025
When news came through that Larry Richie, a well known gangster, was found on Clapham Common with a 38 caliber bullet in his head, Inspector Carr was neither surprised nor, it must be said, perturbed. Speaking to a sergeant from Operations, Carr asks "You say that Richie was found ten minutes ago? The sergeant says "Yes, sir. He was recognized at once by Sergeant Woods of the Clapham Manor, and he thought the squad should be formed" Carr says "Quite right. Looks like gang warfare. Some other thug belonging to some other gang will want his revenge. It looks as though we're going to have a busy time. Where's the body?" The sergeant says "At Clapham Mortuary, sir". Carr asks "Has the murder weapon been found?" The sergeant says "No, sir". Carr says "Alright, I'll send Sergeant Jackson out. Have the local boys found anything? Do you know?" Operations Sergeant says "If they have, they hadn't reported it, Inspector". Carr says "Right. Thank you", and hangs up the phone. Sergeant Jackson approaches Carr and says "Here's the file on the Wilson case, you wanted, sir". Carr says "Thanks, Jackson. You'd better put it in the pending file. Something more urgent has come up. Do you remember Larry Richie, the one that went in for grievous bodily harm?" Jackson says "Do I sir. I gave evidence. Did you see that file from X Branch? They say he's now working with the Lambeth mob". Carr says "Was, past tense. He's dead. Murdered". Jackson says "Well, he certainly had it coming to him, sir, didn't he?" Carr says "Certainly had. I still believe he's the man who bumped off Light-fingered Morris. Richie was shot with a 38 caliber. Jackson says "That'll cause a rumpus, won't it, sir? Carr says "It certainly will. If we don't find the killer and fast, the metropolitan area will become a shooting target for every light fingered trigger happy thug.

Friday Dec 12, 2025
Friday Dec 12, 2025
Miss Emily French was found murdered in her home by her maid, Janet Mackenzie. Her last known visitor was a man named Mr. Leonard Vole. He is subsequently accused of the crime and is in jail awaiting his trial. Mr. Mayherne, the solicitor for Mr. Vole, has just arrived at the jail to provide counsel and to discuss the upcoming trial. Upon entering his cell, Mayherne says "Good afternoon, Mr. Vole". He says "Hello, Mr. Mayherne". As he is leaving, the guard says "You have thirty minutes, sir". Mayherne says "I've come to talk with you". Vole says "Sorry, Mr. Mayherne, I just can't seem to realize that I'm charged with murder. Such a horrible crime too. It looks bad for me, doesn't it?" Mayherne says "It does look kind of black, but Mr. Vole, we're going to make a determined effort to get you off". Vole says "You think I'm guilty don't you. I know you do. But I swear I'm not. I didn't do it, Mr. Mayherne, I didn't do it". Mayherne says "Very well then, I'll accept your assurance, but I must know the worst. I must know just how damaging the case against you is likely to be. Now, Mr. Vole, I need the utmost frankness. You understand that?" Vole says "Yes, I'll be completely honest with you". Mayherne says "Very well. I want you to tell me exactly how you came to make the acquaintance of Miss Emily French". Vole says "It was one day on Main Street, I saw an elderly lady trying to cross the road in heavy traffic. She dropped your packages. I picked them up out of common courtesy and offered to help carry them home". Mayherne says "And she was grateful". Vole says "Yes, of course. She was dressed so poorly, I had no idea she'd turn out to be as wealthy as she was". Mayherne says "But you did find out. Now, the first aim of the prosecution would be to establish that you were low financially at that particular moment. You were, weren't you?" Vole says "Yes, I'd been having a lot of bad luck". Mayherne says "Yes, of course. However, I'm looking at this from the point of view of the prosecution. Now, why did you, a young man of 33, good looking, fond of sport, popular with your friends, devote so much of your time to an elderly woman?"

Thursday Dec 11, 2025
Thursday Dec 11, 2025
Miss Effie Perine, Sam's secretary, reluctantly shows the lady visitor into Sam's private office. She says "Thank you for seeing me, Mr. Spade". He says "My pleasure. Won't you sit down?" She says "Oh, thank you. I'm Lorraine Kilcourse, Mr. Spade. It's about my husband, Leonard Kilcourse". Sam says "Your husband?" Lorraine says "Oh, we've only been married a short time. It was a quiet ceremony at the San Ysidro mission. Leonard didn't want to subject me to any publicity, the difference in our ages, you know". Sam asks "You mean you want me to keep it a secret?" Lorraine says "Oh, no. No. Except for the newspapers, of course. Naturally, all of Leonard's friends know". Sam says "Well, he doesn't have many, from what I've heard". Lorraine says "I thought it strange, too, that such a prominent man should have such a small circle of acquaintances. I met him only a short time before I married him. He's been very kind and absolutely devoted to me, and I suppose I should feel ashamed of myself for coming to you. But there are so many things about him that are mysterious". Sam says "I take it that you're not a San Francisco girl?" Lorraine says "No, I met him at a dude ranch". Sam says "Well, maybe I can clear up some of your mysteries for free. The reason your husband doesn't have many friends is because they keep dropping dead". Loraine says "I don't understand you" Sam says "Ah, forget it. He's a big public servant. He's built a lot of sidewalks. The streets of the city are paid with his good intentions. His name is on a thousand manhole covers. The names of his former business associates are only found on headstones". Lorraine says "Well...." Sam says "Well, what?" Lorraine says "I think my husband is paying blackmail to someone". Sam asks "Upon what do you base your suspicions, Mrs. Kilcourse?" Lorraine says "About a month ago, He began withdrawing large sums from our joint account. He's been leaving the house without a word to me, and sometimes doesn't return until dawn".

Mr. Wolfe says "More trouble, you attract trouble Archie, hang up". Archie says "It's our dentist, Dr. Thrummed" Mr. Wolfe says "Let him wait. We never can find him when we need him. Tell him it's after office hours". Archie says "Doc, Doc you're talking so fast, I can't make head nor tails of it. Look, listen Doc, come on over here and we'll be able to hear you. It'll only take you a few minutes, right". As Archie hangs up, Mr. Wolfe says "You consistently disobey me. I want to work on my paper about Odnta cousins". Archie says "Doc Thrummed has a friend who's in some trouble and he needs our advice. Besides, we owe the Doc a fair sized little bill, remember?" Mr. Wolfe says "Money again Archie, money is the curse of our times. Later, that same evening, Mr. Wolfe is studying his paper about orchids, while Archie is playing records on the phonograph. The telephone rings again, Archie picks it up and says "Hello". A female voice on the line asks "Is this Archie Goodwin?" Archie says "Me? Yeah, who is this?" The female voice says "I need help, Archie. Please come at once, you and Nero. Archie again asks "Who is this?" The voice says "This is Gloria.... No, no don't". Archie says "Gloria who?" She says "Rinaldo.... West...." Archie says "Hello? Hello? Well, did you hear that?" Wolfe says "Another female, bah. What happened?" Archie asks "Boss, who do you know named Gloria?" Wolfe says "Gloria? I know nothing about anyone named Gloria". Archie says "She said her name was Gloria... something, I couldn't quite get the last name. But she did say Rinaldo Road. Wolfe says "Well, it's quite possible that she resides on Rinaldo Road". Archie says "She said she was Gloria....Bar or Mar or something like that, and then she said Rinaldo Road West, and then the scream. That's all there was". Wolfe says "The usual pattern of your experience with women". Archie says "It sounded like a hand was slapped over her mouth or she was grabbed by the throat".

Dan Holiday receives a letter in Box 13 that reads "I have something that may intrigue your sense of adventure. I myself cannot follow it up because I am blind. However, if you will come to the Braille Room at the public library tomorrow at 11 o'clock in the morning, you may be able to find something of interest. I think someone is in desperate danger, and needs help. I'd like to know what you think. Sincerely, William Michaels". In Dan's office, Susie asks "I wonder how Mr. Michaels knew about Box 13, Mr. Holiday? Dan says "I wonder about that too, Susie. He says he's blind." Susie says "Gee, this is really one letter I'd follow up if I were you". Dan asks "What time is it?" Susie says "It's a quarter to eleven". Dan says "Well, it gives me fifteen minutes to get to the public library, and also get a ticket for speeding if I want to get there on time, but maybe it will be worth it". Dan walked into the Braille Room of the library on time, without a ticket. There were only two people in the room, a man and a woman. The woman was busily running her sensitive fingers over a book, but the man was facing the door with a tense, expectant expression on his face. Dan walked over to him and sat down. The man turned his face toward Dan and asks "Box 13?" Dan says "That's right. You're William Michaels?. William says "Yes, that's right. I didn't know whether you'd come or not. As a matter of fact, I half wish you hadn't". Dan says "Your letter mentioned adventure. I never turn that down. What have you got, Mr. Michaels?" He says "This book. It's in braille as you can see". Dan says "What about it?" William says "Let me read you a passage from page 80. "And the terror of the night is hidden in the dark corners of my mind. And the shapes and phantoms that live in fancy are become real". Dan asks "Is that all?" William says "That is all that was originally written on the page, however, at the bottom it also says "Help me. 1217 Granger Avenue". Dan says "That is also on the page?" William says "Yes. Someone who knows how to read and write Braille has used a pin or a needle to put this message on the bottom".

Slate and Saylor are walking on a street in Havana, going toward Sanchez's Printing Shop to pick up some stationary for Saylor. Unfortunately, Saylor's mind is elsewhere. Slate says "Hey watch it, Saylor. That's the second time in three blocks a car's almost run you down. What's the matter with you?" Saylor says "Shannon's Place, the hotel is nifty, and the rooms are 3.50". Slate says "What?" Saylor says "No, I don't like it". Slate asks "You don't like what?" Saylor says "The slogan for my new stationary. The hotel is nifty, the rooms are 3.50". Slate asks "What's the matter with it? It tells the story. It says that Shannon's Place is a classy hotel and the rates are reasonable". Saylor says "Yeah, I know but I...." Slate says "But what?" Saylor says "Now listen to this slogan. Shannon's Place, rest in Havana in your private cabana". Slate says "Who's got cabanas? Makes it a problem, doesn't it? It's too late anyhow. Sanchez has already printed the stationary". Nearing the business, Slate says "Hey, look, Sanchez's shop is dark". Saylor says "Well, he just called you 15 minutes ago, didn't he?" Slate says "Yeah, he said come right over, the stationary was ready. Come on, Saylor". Standing in front of the shop, Slate knocks on the door and yells "Sanchez? It's Slate Shannon. Sanchez?" Getting no response, Saylor says "Try the door, Slate". He turns the doorknob and says "It's open". They walk into the shop and Slate yells for him again. Still, no response. Slate says "Hey, something's wrong, Saylor, strike a match". Saylor says "Something really is wrong. Look at the place". Slate says "Yeah, torn apart like...." Suddenly, they hear noises from the inside of the shop. Saylor says "Slate, there's someone here". As the unknown person tries to run out the door, Slate grabs him and says "I got him, Saylor. She says "I'll hit him with something". After the scuffle, Saylor says "Oh, Slate". He asks "What did you hit me with, Saylor?" She says "I picked something up. It feels like a monkey wrench. I'm sorry, I guess my aim was bad. Hey, what's all this about?" Slate says "Who knows? Maybe somebody else doesn't like our slogan".

Calling All Cars - Banks and Bribes
Tuesday Dec 09, 2025
Tuesday Dec 09, 2025
On April 15th in Los Angeles, at half past two o'clock in the afternoon, a young man working as a teller in the Citizens National Bank, looks up at the clock, then notices the figure of a woman approaching his window. He says "Good afternoon". She says "Good afternoon, I wonder if you would do me a favor and read this telegram". He says "Telegram? Sure I'd be glad to". The teller looks at the letter she gave him, and says "Oh, but this isn't a telegram". She says "Read what it says". The teller starts to read it out loud. He says "Keep still and...." She says "Read it to yourself. I know what it says". After reading it, the teller says "Oh, but there isn't five thousand dollars here". She says "If you know what's good for you, shove those bills into this bag, and keep it quiet". He says "Alright, I will. Here, this is all I've got". He gets all the money out of his cash drawer, and gives it to her. She says "Fine. Now, you read in that note about being covered by three guns. If you make a crack to anyone about this for twenty minutes after I walk out of here, it will be the last thing you will ever do". He says "I understand". Uncertain what to do, the young teller stands in his cage for five long minutes. Then, he takes off to the chief teller's office where he tells his story. The chief teller says "Do you expect me to believe that?" The young teller says "Expect you to believe it? Of course, it's what happened". Chief Teller says "A woman walked in and asked you for all the money. You just handed it over, and then stood there for five minutes before telling anybody?" Young teller says "She told me I'd be killed if I moved for twenty minutes. I didn't want that to happen". Chief teller says "Oh no, of course not. And you didn't want anybody to find out about it until your confederate had plenty time to get away, didn't you?"

The Big Story - The Deadline Murder
Sunday Dec 07, 2025
Sunday Dec 07, 2025
Rolf K. Mills, police reporter for the Minneapolis Morning Tribune, is at the police station for what seems to be a dull Friday night. Suddenly, the desk sergeant gets a phone call from Walt Kramer, the grain inspector. Walt says "I was taking a shortcut back from Cedar Lake across the city dump, when I saw a pair of silk stockings sticking up out of the dump. The thing is, that there were legs in them, a woman's legs". The desk sergeant hangs up the phone and runs into another room. Soon, Detective Peterson comes up to Rolf and asks "Did you say you had a date tonight, Rolf?" He says "Yes, and a deadline". Peterson says "You've got another date now. You and me". Rolf asks "Where?" Peterson says "At the city dump". Rolf says "Very funny. With who?" Peterson says "A corpse, with silk stockings. You coming?" A short while later, the body has been found and examined by a doctor, Rolf says "What a beating she took. Any ideas who she is, Peterson says "No identifying marks. The labels are torn off the clothes". Rolf says "Then, it's safe calling it a murder?" Peterson says "Sure". Rolf says "Say doctor, can you add anything more on the cause of death, beyond the beating, that is?" The doctor says "Yes. This woman has dirt in her mouth and in her throat. That proves that she was alive when she was put here". Rolf says "She was buried alive? Where is the nearest phone? I've got to call the paper!" A few hours later, after the initial story came out, a lady named Mrs. Styles appears at the police station. She said that she saw the story in the paper and thought she knew the woman. Peterson asks Mrs. Styles "Who do you believe the victim is? Mrs. Styles says "Mrs. Sadie Cresley". Peterson asks "What makes you think the murdered woman is your neighbor, ma'am?" She says "I don't know. I just have a feeling. She hasn't been home for days. Neither has her husband. They had a fight. They were always fighting".

Theater Five - Incident at Shadow Valley
Sunday Dec 07, 2025
Sunday Dec 07, 2025
Pop is working behind the counter at his Last Chance Diner near Shadow Valley. He says to Jocko, one of his regular customers "Hope you ain't too fussy, Jocko. Them hash browns got a little burnt tonight. I got a lot on my mind. Ralphie, you know my little grandson, he's been feeling poorly all day. Nelly, my daughter, has been attending to him. Also, the Road Trail people are pulling bus stop from me. They say I got to have two toilets. I ain't finished paying for the first one. Well, here's your coffee. Alright, tomorrow night I'll do better Jocko, give you a real good feed. That'll be 85 cents". Nelly comes in to the diner and says "Good evening, Jocko. Pop, I got to talk to you". Pop asks "Is it Ralphie?: Nelly says "Oh Pop, I don't think he'll make it, not even through the night. If only he wouldn't talk about dying. I can't stand to hear him talking about dying. Maybe the doc can do something". Pop says " I know. Well, go call the doc, Nelly". She says "You don't mind, I mean about the bill". Pop says "When it comes to debt, a couple more pebbles don't make the mountain look any bigger. Take a dime from the cash register". Nelly goes to the payphone and says "Hi Clara, this is Nelly at the Last Chance Diner. Can you get me Doc Landers? No, Ralphie is not good at all tonight. Oh well, I'll call back in a little while". Nelly hangs up and says "Doc Landers ain't in, Pop. Here's the dime, I'm going back to the shack". A police siren is now heard on the highway. Pop asks "What's all that?" Nelly says "It's Doug McLeod. Looks like he's stopping here, Pop. Look I'll be with Ralphie". Doug stops in front of the diner and comes inside. Pop says "Hi Doug". Doug says "Evening, Pop. Pop asks "Why all the siren, Sergeant? Doug says "Accident, twenty miles east. A truck coming this way forced a passenger car off the road". Pop says "Darn shame, anybody hurt?" Doug says "Driver killed, the rest are shook up. It was a big black truck with a sign that said Universal Road Freight". Pop says "Universal Road Freight?" Doug asks "Did it stop here?" Pop says "No sir. Universal Road Freight. I've never heard of it".

Suspense - Where There's a Will
Friday Dec 05, 2025
Friday Dec 05, 2025
A man named Jepson is having a meeting with Charles Ridgeway concerning his gambling debts. Charles says "Now, Mr. Jepson, you really must let me make you a whiskey and soda. I have some excellent scotch". Jepson says "Never mind that Ridgeway, I've come to find out when you can raise the ten thousand pounds you owe me". Charles says "Yes I see. Well Mr. Jepson, ten thousand is a great deal of money". Jepson says "It's what is needed to cover your notes". Charles says "Yes, that's right, but you know, Mr. Jepson, you might just let me write you one more IOU and try again". Jepson says "Your luck's run out, Ridgeway". Charles says "Well, I wasn't much of a gambler anyhow was I? Perhaps it's just as well I've learned my lesson. How long, Mr. Jepson, would you say I have to raise the money?" Jepson says "Four weeks". Charles says "I see, four weeks. And if I should fail to raise the money?" Jepson makes an unspoken gesture toward Ridgeway, regarding the non-payment of the loan. Charles says "I see. well you make yourself very clear, Mr. Jepson, but then perhaps all's not lost. Mrs. Harter, my aunt, has had the foresight to draw up a new will making me her heir. The money was to go to a niece, my cousin Miriam, but now a new will has been drawn up. Aunt Mary finds me much more satisfactory than poor Miriam. The very spirit of solicitude, I am. Forever inquiring about her health, about her poor, weak heart. Four weeks, is that right, Mr. Jepson?" He says "That's right, Ridgeway. Or else". Charles says " I see, four weeks...or else".

I Was a Communist for the FBI - Rich Man, Poor Man
Thursday Dec 04, 2025
Thursday Dec 04, 2025
Matt Cevtic is present at a communist cell meeting that is taking place in the home of cell leader David Bowden. Bowden says "Good news, comrades, delightful news. A plum has been chosen for our exalted cause, a ripe juicy plum. His name? The name of our plum, the irony delights me, simply delights me. His name is Jules Jordan". Someone from the crowd says "The millionaire?". Bowden says "The same. A millionaire with a social conscience. The publisher of that great liberal weekly "Open Thought". Cevtic says "Comrade Bowden". He says "Ah, Comrade Cevtic, you look worried". Cevtic says "Well, this man, this Jules Jordan with his bourgeois conception of liberalism, I don't trust him". Bowden says "Comrade Cevtic, Jordan is obviously a capitalist who fears the inevitable revolution. We've been assigned to put his millions to work for the red master plan. In the past few weeks, I've made it a point to become friendly with Mr. Jordan. Quite friendly, in fact he now comes to me for advice on the editorial policies of his magazine as "one liberal to another", that sort of thing". Cevtic says "You work fast Comrade Bowden". He says "This assignment is my responsibility, Comrade Cevtic. It's success is my success within the party. Failure...." Cevtic says "There can be no failure". Bowden says "Good, good. I need competent, trustworthy assistance. You will help me". Cevtic says "Comrade Bowden, I'm honored". Later that day, Cevtic meets with his FBI contact. He says "I just got a new assignment. Assistant to our cell leader, David Bowden. Our job is to get Jules Jordan into the party". The contact says "That's a new twist, a red millionaire. Why did they pick Jordan?" Cevtic says "His magazine, for one thing. They'd like to print it in red ink". The contact asks "What about Jordan himself?" Cevtic says "He's a perfect patsy. He's young, naive, and worried about doing something good with his inherited money".

Murder Most Foul - Cabin 126
Wednesday Dec 03, 2025
Wednesday Dec 03, 2025
The Durbin Castle Steamship is ninety miles out to sea, off the coast of Africa, on route between Cape Town and South Hampton. Captain Arthur Patey asks his helmsman "What are we making?" Helmsman says "Just under 18 knots, sir". Captain says "Good. What is the temperature?" Helmsman says "81 degrees, sir". Captain says "Not too bad for the tropics". A man walks up to the Captain and says "Murray, sir, night watchman reporting". Captain says "Quiet night here? Murray says "Yes sir, except for one thing. We got a call at 2:58 this morning from one of the first class cabins, number 126, Miss Gibson's cabin". Captain says "Oh yes, pretty girl. What the devil did she want at that time of night?" Murray says "I sent my assistant, Spier, to the cabin. When he opened the door, a man was there". Captain says "Really? Well there is nothing we can do about it, is there? It's not for us to interfere with a passenger's morals". The next morning, the stewardess, Olive, finds cabin 126 unlocked, and Miss Gibson missing. Assuming that she's gone for her bath, Olive tidies up the room, noticing that it seemed a little more disarrayed than usual. Later that morning, Olive noticed that Miss Gibson had still not returned to the room. She asked Bill, the bathroom steward, if he had seen Miss Gibson. He said that he had not. Olive says to Bill "That's funny. She's probably around somewhere, but I'd better report it. It's not like her...." Just then, a voice over the ship's loudspeaker says "Good morning everyone, this is the Captain. One of our passengers, Miss Gay Gibson, appears to be missing. I would be very grateful for any information about her. Anyone who has information or has seen her recently, please come forward".

Detective Sergeants Joe Friday and Ben Romero are working the night watch out of Bunko Fugitive Detail. Returning from Communications, Friday arrived at Room 38, the Squad Room, at 6:45 PM. Romero was already there. Friday says "How about some dinner? Romero says "Well, we got one to check out first. Here's the teletype". Friday reads "Pick up and hold for this department, Alfred Garvey. Wanted for suspicion, forgery, and robbery. This man poses as a fingerprint expert from San Rafael Police Department". Romero says "Here's his mugshot pulled from the record bureau". Friday reads "We're informed that Garvey is registered at the Fair Deal Hotel, Los Angeles. Where's that?" Romero says "Over near First and Broadway". Friday continues to read "Please advise us on his arrest and officers will arrive with warrant. signed' Chief Police Frank Kelly, San Rafael, California". Romero says "Shouldn't take long to pick him up". At that moment, Sergeant John Maxwell walked in to the room. Friday says "Hi, Max. What are you doing around? I thought you took off on vacation". Maxwell says "I just came back to pick up some stuff from my locker. The wife's got the car. You guys going anywhere near North Main and Daly Streets?" Friday says "Yeah, we're going to leave right now". Maxwell says "Oh, okay. Let me grab my coat". They walk to the car, get in, and start down the street. Soon, Friday says "That's the place up ahead, isn't it?" Romero says "Fair Deal, yeah". Friday says "We've got to stop by this hotel a minute, Max. You want to wait here?" Maxwell says "No, I'll come in". After talking to the desk clerk, Friday and Romero learn that Garvey should still be in his room, number 307. Maxwell says he'll stay in the lobby. Friday and Romero make their way up the stairs to the room, but find the door open and the closet cleaned out. Just then, they hear several gunshots. Rushing back to the lobby, the desk clerk says "The guy you were looking for just came down the elevator and shot your friend!"

Night Beat - Am I My Brother's Keeper?
Tuesday Dec 02, 2025
Tuesday Dec 02, 2025
Randy Stone, reporter for the Chicago Star, is walking in the north side of Chicago looking for a story. At first, he hears a single police siren at some distance away. Then, he hears another, and another. The number of sirens kept increasing to the point that it seem that the entire police force were converging to a single area. Then, one police car separated from the others and came down the street, stopping just a few yards away from him. The officer jumps out of the car and is hurrying to a call box. Randy asks "Hey Officer. what's up? It sounds like every police car in the city is out here." The officer says "I got no time, Mister, read about it in the newspaper tomorrow". Randy says "My name is Stone, Randy Stone of the Chicago Star". The officer asks "Are you a reporter?" Randy says "Yes, mildly, that's the calling". The officer Look, I've got no time to stand here gabbing, so I'll give it to you straight, Gig Sanvers busted loose". Randy says "Sanvers? Great, when and how? The officer says "Read it in your newspaper, Stone. Okay, across the next move, they've got him trapped". The officer gets back in his car to leave. Randy says to himself "Gig Sanvers, a two-time loser, a killer, loose in a city of four million people and every one his enemy". Randy hurried to a phone, checks with the police, and then drives over to the part of Chicago called the Badlands, that strange part of every city, surrounded by the business section, rundown, deteriorated, and filled with tenements and abandoned factories. It was there that the police had thrown a cordon around a boarded-up building. Randy's press pass let him go through and up to the front line. He asks Police Captain Ireland on the scene "Is Sanvers in that building?" The captain says "We got a tip he would be. Sanvers knows this neighborhood like the back of his hand". Randy asks "How did he get away?" The captain says "We haven't got the full report yet, but on his way to the death house, he killed a cop, and made his escape".

Dangerous Assignment - Intercept Dr. Korvell
Tuesday Dec 02, 2025
Tuesday Dec 02, 2025
Steve Mitchell is going into the Commissioner's office as Ruth says "Well, here he is Commissioner". Steve says "Thanks, Ruth. Well, what's the deal Commissioner?" He says "Take a look at this map of Eastern Europe, Steve. This country right here". Steve asks "What about it?" Commissioner says "Politically, it's being torn apart. There are two major parties at odds with each other and a well-organized minority who'd like to keep them at odds". Steve says "Pretty familiar pattern". Commissioner says "Yes, it is, but right now it's vital to Western Europe and to us that this particular country be united into a democratic form of government and there's only one man who can unite that country". Steve says "Don't tell me it's me". Commissioner says "No, it's Dr. Korvell". Steve says "But he's no politician". Commissioner says "That's the point, Steve. Dr. Korvell has no political affiliations. He's that country's leading citizen, a scholar, a scientist, and a man of stature". Steve says "Yeah, he could be just the man for the job". Commissioner says "As you know, he's been living in this country since the war, but now he feels it's time to return to his own country. There's to be a vital meeting of the legislature over there in three days. A meeting that could determine which way the country goes. If Korvell could appear at that meeting, it might turn the trick". Steve asks "So, what do you want me to do?" Commissioner says "Escort the good doctor over there. He's already left, the day before yesterday". Steve says "Well, then I don't get it. Why call me on the deal? What more is to be done?" Commissioner says "I'm coming to that, Steve. Dr Korvell realized that the organized minority would try, at all costs, to prevent him from reaching his destination, so he's traveling incognito. Once he arrived, his plan was to go directly to the house of a friend in the capital of his country. This morning, we found out that this so-called friend is actually a member of the minority. Steve, you've got to intercept Korvell before he reaches that man's house".

Tales of the Texas Rangers - Dead or Alive
Monday Dec 01, 2025
Monday Dec 01, 2025
At exactly 9:13 AM on Wednesday, April 16th, the French Freighter Grande Champe carrying a highly explosive cargo of ammonium nitrate fertilizer blew up in the harbor of Texas City, Texas. It was the first in a chain of explosions as chemical plants, tin smelters, and oil refineries disappeared in blasts and flames. Shortly after 1:00 AM the next morning, the major chain reaction was set off. The explosions rocking the city of Galveston, ten miles across the bay, where excited crowds gathered in the streets watching the raging flame filled sky. A guy selling newspapers says "Extra! extra! Texas City death toll at three hundred. Hundreds more missing. Scores of bodies unidentified". A man named Vance Young and his wife, Lilian, walk up to him. The newspaper guy asks "Paper, mister?" Vance says "Yeah, give me one here". Lilian asks "Where are the names, Vance? Where's the list of the dead?" Vance says "They only got a few of them identified". Lilian asks "Well, is Ralph's name there?" As he looks over the names, Vance says "No, he's all right. A working square like him would be". Lilian says "But he worked at one of the refineries, and they're burning". Vance says "Stop blubbering. You want to attract attention to me?" Lilian says "No, but he is my brother. I got to worry about him too, don't I?" Vance says "Yeah. Come on over here into this doorway. Look at that blaze over there across the bay. What a spot to clean up! Money and jewelry must be laying around the streets just waiting...." Lilian says "Ain't you crazy, there'll be police there, and rangers. You're in enough trouble now". Vance says "If your brother is among the dead, there is nothing you can do for him, but, you can help me".

Stand By for Crime - Subversive Activities
Monday Dec 01, 2025
Monday Dec 01, 2025
Chuck Morgan, radio newscaster in Los Angeles, is looking at a copy of the L.A. Times, when he sees a picture of a man he was familiar with from New York. Chuck remembered seeing him in a New York courtroom. His name at the time had been Ivan Rolinsky, and he was a communist. Chuck remembered hearing a judge sentence Rolinsky to five years imprisonment for subversive activities. Now, the man's name is Jim Loring, and he is running for mayor of Carmichael, a city located up the coast about a hundred miles from Los Angeles. Loring is not only running for mayor, it looks as though he is going to be elected. Chuck tells the owner of the radio station, Pappy Mansfield, about Jim Loring's past. Chuck's secretary, Carole Curtis was listening in. Pappy says "Well, it'd make good story, all right, Chuck, but you're wasting your time. Jim Loring's past is as clean as a whistle". Chuck asks "Oh, and how do you know that, Pappy?" He says "Well, The Loring's are a well-known family in Carmichael. Jim went to war in 1942, and while he was overseas, his folks were killed in an auto accident. When Jim came home in 1945, he was taken in by an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Asa Loring". Carole says "So you see, Chuckie Boy, Jim Loring, who's running for mayor, couldn't be Ivan Rowinsky, the Communist". Chuck says "Hmm, that figures. By the way, Pappy, isn't there a war plant in Carmichael?" Pappy says "Well, there's a factory up there producing military goods. Why?" Chuck says "If the mayor of Carmichael happened to be a Communist, he'd be in a fine position to get his hands on the output of that plant, wouldn't he?" Pappy says "Your imagination's getting the better of you again. I've already explained to you that Jim Loring...." Chuck says "I heard you. It makes sense. Isn't it somewhere near Carmichael that the government is doing further research on atomic submarines?" Carole says "Chuck, for heaven's sakes, why don't you give up on this one? There's no evidence that what you're thinking is true". Chuck says "You're right. You and Pappy have sold me. I am going to start my two week vacation tomorrow, and go to Carmichael on my own time".

Detective Danny Clover is called to a particular park bench in Central Park, New York. A crowd of onlookers is forming. Sergeant Muggerman is already on the scene. Muggerman says "Over here, Danny. Right there near the bench". A young boy says "I found the knife. I didn't pick it up". Danny says to Muggerman "Who is the boy?" The boy says "I'm Paul Gilbert. I haven't been home from school yet". Danny says "Well, you'll go home in a squad car, Paul". Muggerman says "I promised him with the siren, Danny". Danny says "With the siren. What happened, Paul? How did the knife get there?" Paul says "I saw the man take it out of his own back and throw it down. Then, he staggered away". Muggerman says "Did I show you this, Danny? All this blood. Wherever he is, he's hurt real bad". Danny turns back to Paul and says "I want you to think for a minute, Paul. What did this man look like?" Paul says "Tall, I guess. Yeah, I guess that's all. He was tall". Danny says "Most grown-ups are tall, aren't they, Paul?" Paul says "All of them, except for midgets". Danny says "One more thing, Paul. Was there anyone with this man? Think hard." Paul says "No, I don't think so". Muggerman says "Well, you told me that there was a...." Paul says "The other man I saw wasn't with him. The other man in the hat just watched him. Then the man in the hat ran away. He wasn't with him". Danny asks "What did the man in the hat look like?" Paul says "He had a hat. That's all I know. I got scared. I ran". Muggerman says "That's right, Danny. Paul ran right into Officer Curcio on the beat. Almost knocked him down. Curcio came back, saw the blood on the bench, the knife, and phoned it in". Danny says "Paul, did you know the man, the man with the knife?" Paul says "No, uh-uh. I usually don't come home from school this way. We had an after-school game over there on the playground". Danny says "Get the squad car, Muggerman, for Paul, with the siren".

Nick Carter, Master Detective - Mind Over Murder
Saturday Nov 29, 2025
Saturday Nov 29, 2025
In Nick Carter's office, Nick and Patsy are interviewing a stranger, a young man who has just called to consult Nick. Nick asks "How did you happen to come here?" The young man says "Well, I asked a policeman where I could find a good detective and he gave me your name". Patsy says "Suppose you tell us what's bothering you". The young man says "Well, three mornings ago, I woke up in a strange bed in a strange apartment. I had no idea where I was, until a young lady told me that it was her apartment". Nick says "Judging by the bandage around your head, you must have had an accident. Was that before, or after you woke up in this strange bed?" The young man says "It must have been before. I don't remember anything about it. The girl from the apartment said me she found me on the steps of her apartment house last Friday night, or rather Saturday morning as she returned from a party. Seeing that I was injured, she managed to get me up to her place and called her doctor. Well, the doctor said my injury wasn't serious, but I had to be quiet for a few days. So, she let me stay there for the night. The next morning, even though I was able to answer her questions, I knew nothing about myself. I had to tell her something, so I invented a name, told her some story about being from out of town, and having a bad fall". Nick asks "What name did you give her?" The young man says "John Powell". Patsy asks "Does that name mean anything to you?" The young man says "No, I just picked it out of the air". Patsy asks "What makes you think you may be a criminal?" The young man says "This" and empties his pockets. Patsy says "Good grief, Nick. Look at all that money". The young man says "Yes, there's over ten thousand dollars there, plus some very expensive jewelry".

Saturday Nov 29, 2025
Saturday Nov 29, 2025
Russell Gordon, president of the Gordon Electrical Appliance Company, is having business and financial difficulties. The main issue is in regards to a business loan he received from the Seaboard National Bank in the amount of 100 thousand dollars. Knowing that he cannot repay the loan by the due date, He called Mr. Greg Schaefer at the bank and asked for a three month extension on the repayment. Russell is siting in his office this morning awaiting the bank's decision. Miss Nichols, Mr. Gordan's secretary, calls him on the intercom and says "Mr. Schaefer of the Seaboard National Bank calling, Mr. Gordon" He says "Oh, yes. Put him on. And would you come in, Miss Nichols?" She says "Yes, sir". Gordon says "Hello, Greg. What's the news? Oh, only 30 days. But, I asked for a three-month extension. I know, but..., Yes, yes, I understand, Greg. I see. Well, thanks for calling". Miss Nichols says "There's something wrong, Mr. Gordon". He says "The bank is giving me only 30 days more on my loan instead of 90. You don't have $100,000 you could lend me, do you, Miss Nichols?" She says "I wish I did, Mr. Gordon. You could have it". He says "Thank you, Marjorie". She asks "What are you going to do?" He says "Oh, I'll raise it somehow". Later that evening, Gordon is discussing the business problems with his wife, Freida. He says "I can sell my collection of rare books for 25 thousand". Freida asks "Then where's the rest of the 100,000 coming from?" Gordon says "From the liquidation of the heavy appliance division, sale of the machinery, inventory. I've already made a deal with American Electric". Freida says "This is almost like starting all over, isn't it?" Gordon says "We can pull through this, if we want to. But, to be honest, I really don't want to".

Philo Vance - The Ivory Murder Case
Saturday Nov 29, 2025
Saturday Nov 29, 2025
Joe Hillary and Tom Duncan are on an ivory hunting expedition in Africa. At the end of a very successful day, they find themselves quite a distance from their base camp. Joe says "Tom. we might as well rest here for a little bit. No sense in trying to make it all the way back to camp tonight". Tom says "Yeah, whatever you say Joe. Funny thing about fate isn't it?" Joe asks "How do you mean?" Tom says "We woke up this morning a couple of guys without any money. We go to sleep tonight millionaires. That ivory we found, there's at least 2 million in it". Joe says "We had to get paid for coming all the way to Africa, didn't we?" Tom says "Not that well. If those natives would just stop with those tom-toms, and their chanting. I wonder what they mean?" Joe says "I hope that they are saying everything is okay". Suddenly, their native African guide, Tonga, appears. Joe asks "Yes, what is it, Tonga?" He says "Natives tell me to ask you a question". Joe says "Go ahead". Tonga says "Natives ask to leave ivory here. It belong here". Joe says "Oh, they do?. You go back and tell them that the ivory belongs to whoever finds it, and we found it. And tell them to cut out those tom-toms". Tonga says "Please, Mr Hillary, Tom-toms mean what they tell me to ask you, to leave ivory here". Joe says "Tell them to cut it out". Tonga says "Tonga tell them, only Tonga not sure other natives listen to him". Tonga leaves, and Tom says "Well, that's that. Now, let's talk about you and me". Joe asks "What about us?" Tom says "Just in case there's any doubt in your mind, Joe, let's understand this. I don't trust you too much". Joe says "That's nice to know". Tom says "We've got the ivory. We'll bring it back and you'll sell it. What do you intend to do about paying me off?" Joe says "Oh, I've thought about that, Tom". He says "That's nice. You know what I'm entitled to, don't you?" Joe says "I certainly do, and I've just decided what you're going to get".

Peter Troy was visited by Miss Suzanne Perot, a French lady that was hosting a fashion show. Miss Perot says "So, you are the adorable Peter Troy, no?" Troy says "No, I mean sure I'm Peter Troy ma'am. Oh and this is my secretary, Julie Summers. Miss Perot says "Ah, you have a headache, Miss Summers?" Julie says "A headache, no. Why?" Miss Perot says "You are frowning so, I thought it must be a headache. You will shake my hand Peter Troy, that is the English way. You do not like kissing the ladies hands in this country". Troy says "Oh, I don't know, I think it's rather a nice idea really. So yeah, sure after all you have to start somewhere". Julie says "Mr. Troy, do you have a headache?" Troy says "Hey, what's that Julie? No, I don't have a headache". Julie says "I think you will before very long". Troy says "Well, Miss Perot, won't you sit down?" She says "Yes, I will. Now, I will give you the business". Troy says "Oh yeah uh...what?" Julie says "If there's one thing I admire, it's frankness". Miss Perot asks "What is going on?" Julie says "Mr. Troy already has a business, Miss Perot, but the number of people who still try to give him another one, you'd be surprised". Miss Perot says "I do not understand. I wish to talk about my girls". Troy says "Your girls? Well, you go right ahead Miss Perot, I'm all ears". Julie says "You can't help the way you look Mr. Troy". He says "Julie... Please continue Miss Perot". She says "It is my fashion show. For this I come all the way from Paris. Ten beautiful girls I have engaged. The day after tomorrow, we have a big showing of the girls from the Paris House of LaPorte, and these girls will wear beautiful jewelry, very valuable. I fear someone may try to steal some of it". Troy says "Oh well, that figures. But you've asked for police protection, of course?" Miss Perot says "No, I could not bear it. Big clumsy policemen standing about in my beautiful salon. It would be like goats in a glass factory". Troy says "Goats in a glass factory?" Julie says "She means, like bulls in a china shop".

Counterspy - The Case of the Infiltrating Agent
Wednesday Nov 26, 2025
Wednesday Nov 26, 2025
David Harding, in the Counterspy Headquarters in Washington, receives an urgent message from the Buenos Aries Embassy that an enemy agent, named Ivor Sanderson, has just booked a flight to northern Mexico. Later, Harding receives a message from the Counterspy field office in Nuevo Laredo that a man answering Ivor Sanderson's description just got off a plane here this morning. Harding sends a message to all southern field offices to be on alert for the next 24 hours. He will personally fly to Laredo, Texas, and will provide specific assignments upon arrival. Meanwhile, an intoxicated tourist from Dallas named Harry is sitting in a bar in Nuevo Laredo, talking to a local girl, he believes, is named Pepita. She says "Harry, you drink too much. We go home". Harry says "Oh, no. No, Pepita. I'm having too much fun. I like Mexico. I don't want to go back to Dallas". Pepita says "You don't go back to Dallas until tomorrow. I mean my home". Harry says "Oh. Why didn't you say so?" Pepita says "Come, you lean on me. I will open the door". They get outside, and Harry says "There's my car". Pepita says "Oh, we don't have to drive to my house". Harry says "Oh, we don't?" Pepita says "No, I live right next door to the saloon". They get into her house, and Harry passes out in an easy chair. Pepita gets his car keys, and gives them to Carl, her partner. She says "It's the big Oldsmobile, right out front, Texas license plate JW360. Carl calls for Mr. Sanderson, and says "We must drive to the car to the garage to put the merchandise inside the tires. The man will wake up in four or five hours. Sanderson says "We are not putting the usual merchandise in the tires this time. We are smuggling something else across the border".

Whitehall 1212 - The Case of Margery Tate
Tuesday Nov 25, 2025
Tuesday Nov 25, 2025
Superintendent Thomas Meredith was unable to accompany Inspector Cecile Daly of the CID when he went down to the Pembridge Court Hotel, Notting Hill, that Friday morning to investigate the reported death of a guest. When Meredith finally arrived there, two and a half hours later, he was glad he hadn't got there before. Inspector Daly told him all about it, though. He says "The guest was found lying face down on the bed, with one arm under her body. Meredith asks "Shot or what?" Daly says "She died of suffocation. The doctor says her face was buried in the pillow. Matter of fact, a good bit of the pillow had been stuffed into her mouth like a gag". Meredith says "You'd think she'd have got herself up". Daly says "She was tied to the bed. Her ankles were tied together with a bath towel. Her head was fastened to the frame of the bed with the belt of her coat". Meredith says "There are blood stains here on the bed. Did you see them?" Daly says "She had been beaten". Meredith asks "With what?" Daly says "From the marks on her back. I imagine it was a riding crop of some sort. They took her over to the Hammersmith Mortuary. You can go and have a look at the marks if you like". Meredith asks "Know who she was?" Daly says "There was a identity card and a ration book in her purse. Her name was Margery Tate". Meredith says "It's murder, of course". Daly says "Well, I don't think it was measles, sir". Meredith asks "You haven't any idea who did it?" Daly says "I think a bloke named Neville George Clovelly King. That's the name this room was booked under. He's had this room booked since yesterday morning. He had a key to the hotel front door". Meredith says "The way they run these places". Daly says "That's spot careless, isn't it? All the staff goes to bed at midnight, leaving the place locked up". Meredith says "So, nobody saw them come in then". Daly says "Not a bloody soul".

Cloak and Dagger - The Trap
Tuesday Nov 25, 2025
Tuesday Nov 25, 2025
Not all of the twelve thousand people working with the Office of Strategic Services parachuted into enemy territory. Some of them stayed in Washington, creating secret codes. Others, like Sergeant Irwin Hazen, sat behind a desk in France and drew maps. Before the war, Irwin Hazen was, of all things, an illustrator of comic books. However, his talent for drawing made him a valued member of the OSS. He is now reporting to the Colonel of his unit regarding his latest assignment. He says "Sergeant Irwin Hazen reporting, sir. Here are those overlay maps you requested, Colonel". The Colonel says "Good, good. Fast work, Sergeant". Irwin says "Thank you, sir". The Colonel says "I'll look them over now. In the meantime, I want you to do something for me. I've just had word that one of our agents, Lieutenant Miller, who was sent ahead for advanced reconnaissance, has returned". Irwin says "Lieutenant Miller? Yes, sir, I know him". Colonel says "He's in that tavern about a mile from the headquarters, getting very drunk. He should have reported immediately. I want you to go down and bring him back to headquarters". Irwin says "Yes, Colonel. Right away, sir". Colonel says "Oh, Hazen, I saw that cartoon you submitted to Yank". Irwin says "Oh?" Colonel says "Very good, very good. Not very flattering of me, though". Irwin says "Uh, no, sir. I'll get Lieutenant Miller for you, Colonel, sir". Irwin quickly made his way to the tavern. Lieutenant Miller was slumped over the bar, swaying back and forth, and he looked very drunk. Irwin asks "Hey, Lieutenant, what's with you? Colonel wants you to report to headquarters right away". Miller says "Oh, is that you, Irwin?" Irwin says "Couldn't this wait till later?" Miller says "No. Couldn't wait. Couldn't make it otherwise. Irwin asks "What are you talking about?" Miller says "Tell the Colonel that Briere is heavily fortified. I saw it myself. There are 80 pieces of 105 millimeter artillery behind the lines. The Germans are digging in. Heavily fortified...." Miller then, falls to the floor. Irwin says "Miller!" The waiter asks "He pass out?" Irwin says "He is dead".

Boston Blackie - The Bus to Valley Junction
Monday Nov 24, 2025
Monday Nov 24, 2025
In the small town of Valley Junction, Silas Gardener's General Store is open for business. Harry Wells, the local bus driver, walks in and says "Howdy, Si". Silas says "Morning Harry. How's that bus of yours? Still all in one piece?" Harry says "Well, far as you can tell, in one look, it's all in one piece. But I wouldn't want to have to pay a dollar for every nut and bolt that fell off between Valley Junction to the main highway". Silas says "Well, you ought to get the company to buy you a new bus, Harry. Drivers in the city get new buses". Harry says "Folks on my route wouldn't know me if I was to turn up with a new bus. How's business?" Silas says "Oh, good. Always good this time of year. Have a store full of people nearly every day from sun up to sunset. Sort of glad it's a little slow now". Harry says "Yeah. You was out taking a little ride near my place yesterday, wasn't you, Si?" Silas says "Come to think of it, I was". Harry says "Yeah. You don't recollect who you saw out in the orchard with me, do you?" Silas say "No, I don't think I do". Harry says "Well, now that's being mighty smart of you, Si". Silas says "Huh? I don't exactly get what you mean?" Harry says "I mean exactly what I said. You're being mighty smart not recollecting who you saw out at my place yesterday". Silas says "Well, you don't remember seeing anyone". Harry says "Yeah. Well, now that's just the thing to remember, if anybody asked you". Because if you remember you did see somebody, and if you know who he was, why there's no telling what will happen to you. You know what I mean? So long, Si". After Harry leaves the store, Si is thinking about what was just said. He picks up the telephone, and says "Operator, this is Si Gardener at the General Store in Valley Junction. Get me the city, will you? I want to talk to a fellow named Boston Blackie".

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes - The Speckled Band
Monday Nov 24, 2025
Monday Nov 24, 2025
Sherlock Holmes is awakening Dr Watson. Holmes says "Watson, Watson old man". Watson says "Good Heavens, Holmes. It is a quarter past seven. What on earth is going on?" Holmes says "A client, Watson. A client in a considerable state of excitement". Watson asks "But, who? Why is there worry?" Holmes says "The who, is a young lady. As to the why, when people wander about the metropolis at this hour, they have something pressing to communicate. And should it prove an interesting case, my dear fellow, I would not miss it for anything". Watson asks "Then, you've seen her?" Holmes says "Huh, even said good morning to her. Mrs. Hudson even gave us some coffee in the sitting room. She is about thirty years of age, dressed all in black. Pitifully agitated, with restless frightened eyes like some hunted animal". Watson says "Poor soul. It's not just coffee she needs then, but kindness". Holmes introduces Watson and himself to the young lady. Holmes says "You must be cold, traveling at this hour. Come into the main room and draw up to the fire". She says "It is not the cold that makes me shiver, Mr. Holmes" He says "Indeed, what then?" She says "It is fear, Mr. Holmes. It is terror". Holmes says "We mustn't fear Miss...." She says "Stoner. Helen Stoner". Holmes says "I have no doubt that we will soon set matters right. You've come in by train this morning, I see, although, of course, you had a journey before that. I observed the second half of your return ticket in the palm of your left glove, while there are several splatters of mud on your left jacket sleeve, that speaks of time spent along heavy roads sitting next to the driver of a dog cart" Miss Stoner says "I see Mrs. Farintosh was right regarding your abilities". Holmes says "Miss Stoner, please sit down. So, you have come far?" She says "“I started from home before six, reached Leatherhead at twenty past, and came in by the first train to Waterloo. Sir, I can stand this strain no longer; I shall go mad if it continues. I have no one to turn to, save one, who cares for me, and he, poor fellow, can be of little aid".

Rabat asks "You are his secretary?" Anna says "I am". Rabat says "Then I must tell you this is a matter of life and death". Anna asks "To what does it refer?" Rabat says "It is a highly personal matter". Anna says "If you wish an interview with his Excellency, you may submit your request through the usual diplomatic channels". Rabat says "Now listen to me please, the Ambassador is leaving his post here in Thailand to attend the International Conference in London, is he not?" Anna says "Why do you ask?" Rabat says "And from there he expects to travel to his own country, before returning here to Bangkok, is that so?" Anna says "I don't know who you are or what you want, but if you don't leave his Excellency's office at once I will summon the authorities". Rabat says "If I don't talk to the Ambassador, my dear girl, his Excellency will never live to see his native land again". Anna says "Are you insane?" Rabat says "I tell you, I have..." At that moment, the Ambassador walks into the room. Rabat says "Your Excellency, do you speak English, sir? My French is very bad". The Ambassador says "Yes, I speak English". Rabat says "I must see you in private, sir". Anna says "Your Excellency, this man forced his way into the office and demanded an interview. He must be drunk or crazy". Ambassador says "Now, now, calm yourself Anna. What is it you wish, young man?" He says "My name is Rabat, and I have a minor position at the Polish legation here, Your Excellency. Sir, you must be on your guard. I have authentic information that an assassin has been chosen to follow you to London and to make certain you never reach the International Conference alive".

Mr. Polo identifies the third man in the row, Dennis Haddock, as the man who killed Krug with a knife in the local park. Guthrie says "Sergeant Grebb, hold number three for interrogation". A few minutes later, Guthrie and Sergeant Grebb are waiting for Haddock in the interrogation room, as his is escorted in. Guthrie says "We want a statement, Haddock". He says "Swell, who's going to give it to you?" Guthrie says "You're going to give it to us". Haddock says "I'll give you nothing". Grebb says "We've got an identification, Haddock. A man saw you do the job". Haddock says "What job? I don't know what you're talking about". Guthrie says "A witness identified you in the line". Grebb says "We've already got his statement. He identified you as the killer". Guthrie says "He'll go on the stand and he'll point you out. First degree. You know what the sentence is". Haddock says "I hate to disappoint you...." Guthrie says "The witness was in the park. He saw you tailing Krug...." Haddock says "I told you, I wasn't tailing nobody". Grebb says "You were picked up on the other side of the park". Haddock says "So what, I was walking". Guthrie says "You really think you're going to beat this?" Haddock says "Look, if I didn't kill anybody, why shouldn't I beat this? Guthrie says "Who paid you to kill Krug?" Haddock says "How many times do I gotta tell you?" Guthrie says "We know who you work for, Haddock". Grebb says "You work for Jack Stefano". Haddock says "I work for nobody". Guthrie says "Stefano's got orders out. Every guy who might give him trouble is supposed to be taken care of". Haddock says "Look fellows, will you forget it, huh? You're not gonna get anywhere with me". Guthrie opens the door and says "Sergeant Quine, take him back down to his cell". Grebb says to Haddock "We got you and we're going to get Stefano, with or without you".

A few days before Christmas, Philip Marlowe, feeling tired of the low pay of his profession, decided to write a story about murder, based upon his personal experiences as a Private Detective. Once the story was complete, he sent it to Kingsby Publications. A few days later, he received a response from a guy named "A. Fromsett" at the company, who wanted Marlowe to visit them to discuss his story. Arriving at the publishers, a young lady says "Oh, come in Mr. Marlowe. You're here about the story you wrote". Marlowe says "Yeah, I got a letter from a guy named A. Fromsett". She says "I'm Fromsett, Adrienne Fromsett to be precise. Tell me something, Mr. Marlowe, have you done much writing?" He says "No". Adrienne says "You do very well for a beginner". Marlowe says "Well, it's based on an authentic case. Do you run this publishing business all by yourself Miss Fromsett?" She says "Oh no, Mr Kingsby runs it. Tell me, are there really detectives like the one in your story who never lie, cheat, or double cross a client?" Marlowe says "Yeah, there're a couple of dopes like that". She says "Good, then you were writing about yourself". Marlowe says "Look, you don't really want to buy my story do you?" Adrienne says "I was about to offer you 200 dollars". Marlowe says "Oh no you weren't. The real reason I'm here is because you want a smooth operator who keeps his mouth shut. When you read my story, you said that's my boy, he's dumb, he's brave, and he's cheap, am I right?" She says "Partly". Marlowe says "Then why all this micky mouse about my story?" Adrienne says "I want you to find Mr. Kingby's wife, without his knowing you're looking for her. She's a vicious woman, a liar...." Marlowe says "I don't want to be nosy, Miss Fromsett, but what makes that any of your business?" She says "I handle all of Mr. Kingsby's affairs. He wants to divorce her and I don't like your manners". Marlowe says "I'm not selling my manners, and I'm not selling my story either. I don't like getting mixed up with a tricky female who wants to dispose of the boss's wife just so she can marry him herself".

Thursday Nov 20, 2025
Thursday Nov 20, 2025
George answers the ringing telephone in his office. The voice on the line says "You want a story?" George says "Hold it, will you? Who is this?" The voice says "My name is Jerry Huell. I'm a writer and I have a story". George says "Yeah, well, this is George Valentine and I'm not a publisher". Jerry says "Please listen to me. You've got to meet me right away. Captain Charlie's Neptune Palace, the old waterfront district". George says "The captain's who's what?" Jerry says "I live here. It's an old hotel. I'm collecting material. But this particular story, I'm afraid I don't know how it ends. That's why I need you". George says "Sounds to me like it goes around in a circle". Jerry says "I want to be there when it ends. Don't you understand? That's why I'm calling you instead of the police". George says "The Police? What kind of a story is it?" Jerry says "Well, it concerns a mysterious stranger and a seaman who chews tobacco. And mostly, of course, the parrot". George says "The what?" Jerry says "The parrot, a green and orange parrot". George says "A green and orange parrot?. Now look, friend, if you...." Jerry says "Meet me in fifteen minutes at the foot of Tide Street, please. You don't want anyone else to get their hands on this story, do you?" About fifteen minutes later, George and Brooksie meet Mr. Huell. Brooksie asks "Is it always so foggy down here?" Jerry says "Only in the summer". George says "Here's Captain Charlie's Neptune Palace. It's quite an ornate old place, isn't it?" Jerry says "Oh, the rooms are empty now, or most of them, and half of it is locked off, of course. It tips like a one-legged man, there where the piling underneath is sinking. George and Brooksie soon meet the strange inhabitants of the Neptune Palace and learn about what happens to those that become involved with the parrot.

Is it fancy enough for you?" Mitch says "Enough. Hey, it's quite a shindig in there". Paula says "It's a Going Away party for Mr. Colby. Sorry, I can't ask you in". Mitch says "I'll ask myself in at the proper time". Paula asks "You think you have it all straight, Mitch?" He says "Yeah I think so". Paula says "Perhaps you better go over it just once more while the place is all live". Mitch says "I said I got it, Paula". She says "So, you did. Very well. I just wouldn't care to have the unexpected spoiler in this sweet situation". Mitch says "Nothing is going to spoil nothing. I got it down, ice cold. I park at the gate, back there, walk up the driveway, open the delivery with the key you gave me, go in through the kitchen, through the dining, to the big stairs. Take care of anybody there...." Paula says "No one will be there, Mitch. All the servants will be out, except me". Mitch says "Okay honey, so I'll take care of you". Paula says "Mitch, I thought I'd made myself clear. This arrangement between us is...." Mitch says "Simply business, I know". Paula says "Well, I hope you know". Mitch continues "Up the big stairs, down the right wing, third door on the left, and I don't bother to knock". Paula says "Well, I guess you got it all right". Mitch asks "What time do I pull the routine?" Paula says "Well now, let's see. He's invited for 7:30, Mrs. Colby should be dressing, at least, the full hour before that". Mitch asks "You really figured this for over 50 thousand dollars?" Paula says "Well over. She's taking her star sapphire out of the vault, and her black pearls, and the ruby pendant...." Mitch says "Okay, it's over fifty. Oh, Paula, you're taking an awful chance aren't you? If the Colby doll ever found out that it was her own personal secretary that dreamed up this caper...."

Escape - Two and Two Make Four
Thursday Nov 20, 2025
Thursday Nov 20, 2025
David Parker awoke to find himself in unfamiliar circumstances. He sat up and opened his eyes. He was outdoors, the fog was thick all around. He could see trees and a few yards of dirt road. Just then, he noticed his watch was gone, along with his wallet. He said to himself "I must have been rolled and dumped. But where?" He scrambled to my feet and stood there in the ditch. He started worrying about the time. He is a merchant marine. His ship was in port in Calais, France. It would be bad to be late going aboard, even worse for the ship to sail without him. He stepped onto the dirt road, and thought "Which way led back to Calais?" Suddenly, he hears someone coming. He says "Hello? Qui est là? Why don't you answer? I can't see". He hears two gunshots, and starts running, going down the road, across a field, and along side a brook. He continued running until it lead him under a small bridge. He looks up, and sees a girl with a knapsack, leaning against the rail watching him. He climbs up the bank, and says "Mademoiselle, c'est vous plaît, mademoiselle". She says "I'm sorry, I don't speak French". He asks "Did you hear those shots a few minutes ago? They went right past my ear". She says "Well, you should tell the police or something. I have to be going. I have a long way to go". He says "Wait a minute..." She says "Sorry, I really must go". He says "Wait, what time is it, please?" She says "Well, its about a quarter to seven. It should be foggy at least until noon". He says "Noon? You mean it's a quarter of seven in the morning?" She says "Yes, of course". He asks "Which way is Calais?" She says "Calais? Well, that way, about twenty miles". He says "Twenty? I've got to make my ship. You mind if I walk along with you? My name's David Parker". She says "Mine's Haydock, Emily Haydock". He says "I'm in the Merchant Marines, second mate on a freighter. Are you an American on a walking trip? She says "That's right". He says "I thought you were French at first". She asks "Why is that?" He says "I just took it for granted. Most people in France are". She says "Well, I don't understand. We're in England, not France".

Casey, Crime Photographer - The Laughing Killer
Wednesday Nov 19, 2025
Wednesday Nov 19, 2025
It is midnight and the Blue Note Cafe is doing its usual brisk business. From the service end of the bar, a waiter named Walter calls over Ethelbert, the head bartender. Ethelbert says "What do you want, Walter?" He says "The guy at that table next to the wall wants another drink, but I'd say he's had too much already". Ethelbert says "You better collect his bill and ease him into a cab". Walter says "Okay". Ethelbert says "Wait a minute. His face is familiar. You know who he is?" Walter says "No, he's no one to me". Ethelbert says "I can't place him, but he's a clean cut looking guy. See, he gets a right cab, Walter, with a driver you know". Walter says "Okay, I'll try to get him out and into a cab". At that moment, Casey and Miss Williams come up to the bar. Casey says "Hi, Ethelbert". He says "Well, Casey. Evening, Miss Williams. You two just put the paper to bed?" Casey says "Yeah, nothing to do now, but go home and get some shut eye". Miss Williams says "Oh, now I'll go for that. Oh, I'm tired". Casey says "You and me both, Annie. Just then, they hear the drunk guy tell Walter "I don't want to go home. I want another drink. Please, mister. No, no, I don't want to go home". Miss Williams says "One of your customers isn't listening to reason, Ethelbert". Casey says "Hey, isn't that Artie Maddux?" Ethelbert says "Artie Maddux? Yeah, I knew I'd seen him before. When did he get out of the big house?" Casey says "Last month, on parole". Miss Williams asks "You mean that nice looking man is an ex-convict?" Ethelbert says "Yeah, and he was sent up for murder. Casey says "Well, not quite. That was manslaughter. There was a lot of doubt that he was actually guilty. A lot of folks, including cops, were convinced that he was covering up for Gypsy Hibbert, the singer that Artie had fell for and wanted to marry. Most believed that Gypsy had actually shot and killed Phil Blaney, a big shot in the gambling rackets here".

Mr. Chameleon - Custody of the Child Murder Case
Tuesday Nov 18, 2025
Tuesday Nov 18, 2025
Janet Drew and her ex-husband Donald Drew have been battling In a New York City courtroom for custody of their son. They are now standing in front of the judge, awaiting his verdict. The judge says "I award complete custody of the young son to Mr. Donald Drew". Janet says "No, you can't do that!" The judge says "Mrs. Drew, I based this decision on the facts which have been presented to this court. The evidence was against you, Mrs. Drew. I have no choice but to award full custody of your child to his father". Donald says "Thank you, judge". Janet says "No, wait, this isn't right, your honor. You can't take my son away from me. I love him". The judge says "You should have thought of that sooner, Mrs. Drew. Your son is four years old, and according to the evidence, you are unfit to be the mother of any child". Janet says "But the evidence was faked. Those things they said about me were lies". The judge says "You had plenty of opportunity during the trial, Mrs. Drew, to refute the evidence presented. You did not, which seems to me to prove the evidence is true". Janet says "But it isn't, your honor. You don't understand. I have a greater reason than any that's been presented to this court. Donald has no right to him, because he is not Donald Drew's legitimate child". The judge says "Mrs. Drew, this is a very serious statement. I hope you know what you're saying". Janet says" I do". The judge asks "Why didn't you mention this fact before? Why didn't you bring it up during the trial? Donald says "Because it's not true, your honor. It's a desperate lie. She knows the boy's mine, but she won't stop at anything. She would rather injure my son's good name than let him go". Janet says "You're lying, Donald". He says "The very fact that she would do such a thing is proof, your honor, that the evidence presented against her character, was all true". She's not fit to touch my boy!" Janet says "Donald, before I let you get away with this, I'll kill you!" The judge says "That's enough, Mrs. Drew. The decision of this court is final. And in the future, if I were you, I wouldn't be so quick to threaten people".

The Whistler - Urge to Kill
Monday Nov 17, 2025
Monday Nov 17, 2025
Henry Drake sits in his big office staring out over the smoking stacks of his busy factory. Production is at its peak. The demands of the past year have brought untold problems to his desk and placed heavy loads upon his shoulders. He and his partner, Philip Putnam, had started this factory five years ago and built it into a smooth running highly profitable organization. Now, with the added demands of the war, their factory production has more than tripled. So have the worries as well. Philip had put up most of the capital to start the factory. Henry's expertise was in management. He was responsible for the operations and the decisions that needed to be made on a daily basis. Lately, however, something has been happening to Henry. He is beginning to slip. His memory is starting to play tricks on him. One morning, as Henry is walking to his office, their secretary, Ethel, says "Good morning, Mr. Drake, Mr. Putnam wanted to know if you studied those contracts last night". Henry says "What contracts?" Ethel says "The ones he gave you last night. You said you'd take them home. They must be signed by noon today". Henry says "Contracts? Why, I don't know what you're talking about. When did Phil give me any contracts?" Ethel says "Just before you left last evening. Don't you remember?" Henry says "Remember? Well, yes. I do remember now. Yes, yes, of course". Ethel asks "Well, may I have them?" Henry says "Well, let me see. What on earth did I do with them? Ask Mr. Putnam to step in here". Ethel says "Yes, Mr. Drake". Ethel contacts Philip on the intercom and says "Mr. Drake would like to see you, Mr. Putnam". He says "I'll be right in". Philip goes into Henry's office and says "Good morning, Henry. What's up?" Henry says "Well, about those contracts you gave me yesterday evening, just what were they about?" Philip says "What? What do you mean? Haven't you read them?" Henry says "No. No, I haven't". Philip says "Good heavens, man. They were supposed to be signed by noon today and it's ten o'clock now. Where are they?" Henry says "I don't know where they are, Phil. I can't remember a thing about them".

The Adventures of Philip Marlowe - The Long Rope
Monday Nov 17, 2025
Monday Nov 17, 2025
Philip Marlowe is spending the afternoon in a Turkish bath, being worked over by a masseuse named Nick, when the phone rings. He picks it up and says "Yeah? Marlowe speaking". The voice on the line says "My name is Sidney Vanetta, Mr. Marlowe. I've tried all afternoon to reach you". Marlowe says "What can I do for you, Mr. Vanetta?" He says "I've already made your reservation with American Airlines. You're leaving on the ten o'clock plane tonight, and you're taking with you a set of pearls for a certain buyer in Chicago". Philip says "Wait a minute, Mr. Vanetta. Maybe I can...." Vanetta says "No, maybe, Marlowe. I've checked thoroughly on you and find you entirely qualified, which is important because the pearls are perfectly matched, set in a rope valued at about 30 thousand dollars. The buyer wants them, and I made up my mind just this morning to sell. The proceeds will go to my niece". Marlowe says "Lucky girl". Vanetta says "Indeed she is. I'm selling the pearls simply because I know she would, and I can get more for them". Marlowe says "Why all the hurry, Mr. Vanetta?" He says "First, the buyer is leaving Chicago tomorrow. Second, my heart may fail me at any moment. Thus the hurry, Mr. Marlowe". Marlowe says "I see. Well, I'll take the job, uh, conditionally. But suppose I come out and talk with you". Vanetta says "Very well. Come to 7241 Adams, just below Western. I'll expect you at six o'clock, sharp. The side door will be open, so let yourself in". Later, Marlowe arrived at Vanetta's house. He found the side door unlocked and went in. He called Vanetta's name but got no answer. He looked into the library and saw Vanetta in a big chair in front of the fireplace. His chin sunk deep in his chest and his eyes were closed. Marlowe stepped close and shook him gently by the shoulder. All it took was a gentle shake. He sagged forward and poured out of the chair like stiff syrup. Mr. Vanetta was dead.

Sunday Nov 16, 2025
Ken Thurston is called to a meeting in New York with his supervisor, Chief of the U.S. Intelligence Agency. Also present in this meeting is Dr. Markov, eminent nuclear scientist. As Ken enters the office, he says "Dr. Markov, good to see you again". Markov says "Mr. Thurston, I cannot tell you how grateful I am to you and the chief". Ken says "You make it sound pretty serious". Markov says "No, it is worse than that. Worse than anything that I could ever have imagined". The chief says "A security leak?" Ken asks "Anything to do with the doctor's experiments on a new type of atomic reactor?" Markov says "Oh, you know about that?" Ken says "Guess I'm not the only one". The chief says "Yesterday in Strasburg, a man was shot down while resisting arrest. He turned out to be a Red Messenger, a courier". Markov says "Yes, and I still cannot believe, on him, he should have had information about my experiments. It is impossible". Ken says "Doctor, it's about time we in the West learned that the Red Espionage system specializes in the impossible". Markov says "But, every precaution was taken. Now, what can they do but suspect me? Especially with my old world birth and background". Ken says "This is a lot more important than just you, Dr. Markov". He says "Oh, believe me, Mr. Thurston, I did not come here seeking your help because I....well". Ken says "I know, doctor. I know". Once Ken arrives in Strasburg, he sees Pagon selling souvenirs. Pagon says "Mr X, what have you got to say for yourself?" Ken says "Pagon, the world isn't that small. Why are you here in Strasburg?" So, we can go to Switzerland. See, I already got two plane tickets for Lucerne. The plane leaves in an hour". Ken asks "What about Lucerne?" Pagon says "Well, I was in Paris, working on a big deal, when I heard about this red courier business, and him being from Lucerne".

Larry is at the front door to Ellen and Ricki's apartment. Ricki opens the door and says "Oh, hello, Larry" Larry says "Hello Ricki, is Ellen home?" Ricki says "My darling roommate should be here any minute. Come on in. Ellen's boss is away on her vacation. I guess that's why she's late. She is running Mead & Company's payroll department herself these days". Larry says "Yeah, she's done swell with her new job. Say, you remember old Mr. Bruno at the barbershop, the one who gave Ellen that job as a manicurist when she first came to New York?" Ricki says "Yeah". Larry says "Well, he died yesterday". Ricki says "Oh, I'm sorry, Larry". At that moment, Ellen comes into the apartment and says "Ricki, I want to show you the most divine hat I found. Oh, hello, Larry". He says "Hello, Ellen". Ricki says "Larry told me that nice old Mr. Bruno died yesterday". Ellen says "Oh, I am sorry, Larry". He says "Yeah, the funeral is tomorrow afternoon. I was thinking I could stop by for you and we could go together". Ellen says "Oh, I just couldn't make it tomorrow, Larry. I'm sorry. You send some flowers for me, will you?" Larry says "Yeah, sure. Ellen, I don't suppose you'd have dinner with me tonight?" Ellen says "Thanks, but I've got a date". Larry says "Okay. Well, I better go. Bye, Ellen, So long, Ricki". After Larry leaves, Ellen asks Ricki, would you iron my blouse? I'm late now". Ricki asks "Are you going out with Tony again?" Ellen says "Yes". Ricki says "You're a little rough on Larry, aren't you?" Ellen says "Well, I'm not obligated to Larry. Besides, he's just a barber". Ricki says "Oh, nice going. One year in the big city and our little girl from Grand Rapids has already learned how to be a snob". Ellen says "Now, Ricki, just because I prefer Tony to Larry doesn't mean that I...." Ricki says "Oh, sure, honey. Anthony Drexel Drake, fancy stuff. I just don't want you to get hurt by some rich playboy. Oh, honey, break it off. Don't see him. Call it off". Ellen says "I couldn't. Not tonight anyway". Ricki asks "Why not?" Ellen says "Well, he's in trouble. Oh, he hasn't said anything, but something's wrong, I know".

Barrie Craig, Confidential Investigator - Kitchens Come with Knives
Saturday Nov 15, 2025
Saturday Nov 15, 2025
Barrie Craig, in his latest assignment as a confidential investigator, found himself in a situation where he was standing outside, in a drafty doorway in the rain, watching a house across the street. All he had to do was wait in the doorway until a man named Sam Jenkins made an appearance, then go home. The next morning he was to type up a report to the effect that Sam Jenkins was seen leaving 1012 East 43rd Street at 11:01 p.m. the previous night, and mail it to his business associates. Generally, there's a check in the return mail, all of which is fine, but not especially exciting. However, one night, it got a little more exciting. Barrie is in his doorway, watching the house, when a big man walks up and stands in front of him. He says "I'm blocking your view, Mister". Barrie says "That would depend on what I was looking at". The man says "Let's say the house across the street". Barrie says "it's a large house". The man says "And I'm a large man". Barrie says "I've noticed that". The man says "Well, then why not take a walk down the street?" Barrie says "I like it here". The man says "Look Mister, why don't you go find yourself a keyhole to peep through and save yourself some trouble". Barrie says "Maybe I like trouble. You figuring on making some for me?" The man says "Okay, I think I'm going to enjoy this". Barrie says "Enjoy what, a few slugs in your stomach? The gun's loaded. I've got a license for it, and I'd be delighted to explain the whole thing to the police. It's your move". The man says "You feel pretty brave standing there behind the gun, don't you?" Barrie says "Not especially, I just happen to be working and I don't like interruptions". The big man says "I'll get in touch with you some other time, wise guy". Barrie says "Please do, goodbye". The large man moved down the street, turned the corner, and that was the end of it, at least for the time being.

Richard Diamond, Private Detective - The Jacoby Case
Saturday Nov 15, 2025
Saturday Nov 15, 2025
Lieutenant Walt Levinson calls Richard at his office. He says "Rick, I got a big headache. I think maybe you can help me with it". Richard says "Trouble?" Walt says "All over the place. You don't have to, but I'd like to, well, sort of kick it around with you". Richard says "Sure, I'll be right down". Walt says "Oh, thanks, Rick". Richard closes up his office. Twenty minutes later, he was walking into the squad room of the 5th Precinct Police Station. Richard says "Hello, Walt". He says "Hello, Rick. Sit down. Well, Leon Jacoby is back in town" Richard says "What?" Walt says "Yes". Richard says "Oh, but we got an indictment on him. We got him deported six years ago". Walt says "Look, Rick, there's no mistake. One of our stoolies brought us word". Richard says "But that's crazy. Jacoby knows the Feds will pick him up in a second. How'd he get back in?" Walt says "Who knows? Florida, maybe. Last we heard, he disappeared in Italy. And about six months later, we got a report that he was seen in Cuba". Richard says "Oh, are you just going to take the stoolie's word for it? What else have you got?" Walt says "I got three bodies to date and they're all very dead". Richard says "Jacoby?" Walt says "It's got to be. The first two were the guys that turned state's evidence and helped to put Jacoby away. You remember them, Ross and Kreisel. Jacoby swore to get them someday". Richard asks "Who's the third?" Walt says "The stoolie who gave us the tip. He walked out of the station and somebody with a Thompson machine gun got him on our front steps". Richard says "Right in front of the station?" Walt says "Yeah, it'll be in the evening papers. The commissioner is very unhappy. Oh, here's something else that makes us sure it's Jacoby. In this town, there are at least five of Jacoby's old mob. The minute this thing broke, we started to check. They've all disappeared". Richard says "You think they're organizing again?" Walt says Rick, I don't know what to think. That's why I wanted you to come down. You're one of the guys who worked on the Jacoby case".

The Lives of Harry Lime - Too Many Crooks
Saturday Nov 15, 2025
Saturday Nov 15, 2025
Harry Lime receives a telegram from Budapest, Hungary, that reads: "Dear Mr. Lime, My bank is going to be robbed and I need your help. Signed, Feckety" Harry believed it to be a man's name, but it was not anyone that he knew. However, as he knew all about bank robberies, he was dying to help. Besides, he loves eating the goulashes, so he starts packing right away to catch the first train to Hungary. Once he arrives, instead of going directly into the bank, he stops at a little flower shop across the street. As he walks in, he says "Good morning, do you have something for the buttonhole on my lapel?" He suddenly recognizes the lady working in the shop, and says "Oh Lily! What are you doing here?" She tries to ignore him and says "We have some nice pink flowers". Harry says "Oh, come on, Lily, don't tell me you don't remember me. And how are all the Corellies?" She asks "The who?" Harry says "Don't give me that, Lily". She says "My name is Lulu". Harry says "Well, it used to be Lily and you used to be a blonde. And the Corellies, as you know perfectly well because you used to work for them, the best bank robbers in Central Europe". Lulu says "Here, your gardenias, Harry. Now get out of here". Harry says "Okay, honey, okay. No need to get in a hassle". Lulu says "I'm telling you, Harry, get out". Not being one to argue, Harry took his gardenias across the street and walked the bank. Soon, the secretary says "Mr. Feckety will see you now, Mr. Lime. Harry goes into his office, and Feckety says "Sit down, sit down". Harry asks "What's your proposition, Mr. Feckety?" He says "Did you ever hear of a bank giving a reward?" Harry says "Yes, but only after a bank has been robbed". Feckety says "I'm reversing the procedure. I'm giving the reward first" Harry says "So, that's the caper is it? You want me to rob your bank for you?" Feckety says "Not at all, not at all. A reward is usually given for apprehending the thieves who have robbed the bank. What I want you to do, Harry, is to apprehend the robbers before the robbery is committed".

Richard "Dick" Nelson, owner of the Nelson Furniture Factory, has led a charmed life for most of his 35 years. He's had nothing but good luck in personal life and in his business ventures, until recently. For the past few months, he has had one problem after another at his factory. After one particularly bad morning, he goes to lunch at the club and meets his friend, Judge Walter K Morrow. The judge says "Hello, Dick. Are you expecting anyone?" Nelson says "No". Judge says "Well, you join me for lunch". Nelson says "Thanks. I was hoping I'd run into you". Judge says "You look a bit out of sorts, Dick. Something wrong?" Nelson says "Yeah". Judge says "What is it?" Nelson says "I wish I knew". Judge says "You'll have to explain that". Nelson says "Judge, are you familiar with the story of Job?" Judge says "More or less". Nelson says "Well, that's who I feel like right now". Judge says "Well, I don't see any boils". Nelson says "Well, it might have been somewhat presumptuous of me to make the comparison, but I just feel that I am about to go down the drain". Judge says "Are you serious, Dick?" Nelson says "Judge, if things go on at this rate, I'll be bankrupt within a year. I stand to lose everything I own in the world". Judge says "But everyone says things are going great at your plant". Nelson says "Every day it's something else. Another setback. I'm losing key customers. How? I don't know. Vital raw materials don't arrive. Why? It just happens. And to top it all, my foreman got a better job and is leaving me. What is it? What's happening?" Judge says "Well, just a lot of bad luck". Nelson says "But, so much bad luck all at once?" Judge says "Dick, I've known you all your life. You've always been the golden boy. Fortune has smiled upon you constantly. Well, she's an extremely fickle old girl, and now she wants to frown for a bit". Nelson says "But it just seems to be a pattern". Judge says "You've probably been spoiled. You've never had to cope with adversity". Nelson says "No, it's more than that, Judge. It's reached a point now where I know that every day is going to produce another setback".

The Adventures of Rocky Jordan - High Pressure
Thursday Nov 13, 2025
Thursday Nov 13, 2025
Rocky closed the Tambourine early that night, at about eleven o'clock. All of his employees had left, and he had just climbed into bed in his room upstairs for some extra sleep. Suddenly, Rocky hears the roar of motor cars coming down the street. He looked out of his open window to see two identical sedans stop directly in front of the Tambourine. The doors flew open, and a dozen uniformed men scrambled out. One of them started barking orders. They were surrounding the club. As Rocky is putting on his robe, he hears his front door slamming open. He quickly goes down the stairs. Rocky says "Alright, cut the racket, I'm getting there. Now, what is this all about?" The leader of the group says "Put on your clothes, Mr. Jordan. You come with us". Rocky says "It takes a warrant, Buster". The leader says "As you wish. Read it quickly". Rocky says "This is from the Foreign Ministry? He says "Precisely". Rocky says "Look, a phone call would have got me there. Why in the middle of the night, and why the armed guard?" The leader says "At once, Mr. Jordan. The Egyptian government does not like to be kept waiting". A few minutes later, Rocky is riding in the backseat of the lead car. All of his questions were met with stony silence. Rocky says to himself "Whatever this was about, they were making it look big and important". Reaching the governmental center, their car slowed, and soon rolled up to the big foreign ministry building. I was taken out of the car and inside the building. With two guards ahead, and two guards behind him, they marched Rocky down a long marble floored corridor. At the far end, they ushered Rocky through a door and into a small room. The guards left him there, locking the door behind them. An hour later, the door to the inner office suddenly opened. A guard beckoned, and Rocky went in. Seated behind a huge desk was a spectacled Egyptian official. The name plate on the desk said "Herod Bay". Bay says "Mr. Jordan, some years ago, you very suddenly left the United States. Why?"

Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar - The Evaporated Clue Matter
Thursday Nov 13, 2025
Thursday Nov 13, 2025
Henry "Hank" Bascom of the Four State Insurance Company in New York wants Johnny to investigate the murder of a wealthy copper mill owner named Jonathan Kenworthy, who had previously purchased a life insurance policy worth almost 200 thousand dollars. The sole beneficiary of this policy is Carlton Kenworthy, his grandson. Johnny asks Hank "Do you or the police have any idea who might have killed him?" Henry says "Yeah, his grandson Carlton, who also happens to be the sole heir to all the rest of his estate" Johnny says "Oh no, wait a minute, that's a pretty strong accusation, Hank. Do you have any proof?" Hank says "None whatsoever, nor have the police". Johnny says "I take it that you figured Carlton had the motive and the opportunity...." Hank says "And a perfect alibi". Johnny asks "Oh, and what makes you and the police think he did it?" Hanks says "Well, motive Johnny. It's as simple as that". Johnny says "Alright, keep talking". Hank says "It's simply that nobody else in the world could possibly benefit by old Mr. Kenworthy's death. Plus the fact that he had no enemies, none whatsoever". Johnny says "You sound pretty sure of that". Hank says "I am. I not only knew him, but I knew a great deal about him". Johnny says "But, after all, a man who's been head of a company as big as Kenworthy Copper Mills, you know, some disgruntled employee with some imaginary grievances...." Hank says "Over twenty years ago? But even if he'd only retired from that business last month, I'd still say no. Kenworthy was one of the best loved men I've ever heard of. As for his employees, why they're the ones he left the business to. He never had a strike, or any other kind of labor troubles, despite the size of his plant. I know it sounds unusual, Johnny, but he was an unusual man". Johnny says "Oh I see. Now, how about this grandson, Carlton Kenworthy?" Hank says "Well, he's about as useless a hunk of human being as I've ever seen".

Mr. District Attorney - The Case of the Hungry Hobo
Wednesday Nov 12, 2025
Wednesday Nov 12, 2025
On a Saturday night in a Roadside Diner near a railroad crossing, Charlie Porter is working his usual late shift and listening to a prizefight on the radio, when his unemployed brother-in law, Jack Houseman, walks in. Jack is brother to Nina, Charlie's wife. Jack has been living with his sister and Charlie for quite some time. Jack says "Hi Charlie". Charlie says "Oh, it's you". Jack says "That's s a happy greeting for your favorite brother-in-law". Charlie says "Stop clowning, Jack, you're not my favorite anything and you know it". Jack asks "How's the fight going?" Charlie says "It could go either way. Did Nina send you down here for something?" Jack says "No, it's something I want to see you about Charlie. Mind if I turn this down a little? Charlie says "What is this Jack, another touch? Because if it is, you're wasting your time". Jack says "It's Saturday night and I got a date. I need five bucks". Charlie says "Try working, that might be a way to get it. Why don't you ask your sister?" Jack says "Don't kid me, Charlie. You know why she wouldn't give it to me. You told her not to". Charlie says "I told her to use her own judgment, Jack". He says "Turning my own sister against me". Charlie says "She happens to be my wife and I'd like to see her get herself a decent dress instead of shelling out fives and tens to you". Jack says "No? Alright, then maybe I'll just help myself from the register". Charlie says "I wouldn't touch that if I were you, Jack". He says "You just stay on that stool and count your hamburger patties, brother-in-law". Charlie says "Jack, stop. Don't get any crazier than you already are, put that gun back under the counter. Put it back and get out of here or I'll call the cops!" Jack asks "Do I get the dough, or don't I?" Charlie says "No!" Jack says "Too bad", and fires two shots at Charlie! As he gets the money from the register and leaves, Jack says "That's the way you wanted it, cheapskate".

Mr. Keen, Tracer of Lost Persons - The Telephone Book Murder Case
Wednesday Nov 12, 2025
Wednesday Nov 12, 2025
In his fashionable New York mansion, wealthy bachelor, Bradley Andrews is standing before a mirror in the drawing room, putting the finishing touches to his evening clothes as his valet, Edwards, stands nearby. Andrews says "Well, how do I look?" Edwards says "Perfect, sir. Your new dinner jacket is an excellent job of tailoring, Mr. Andrews". He says "Thank you, Edwards. Oh, you may take the evening off. These bachelor dinners usually go on for hours and I won't be home until late" Edwards says "Very good, sir. Good night, Mr. Andrews". A few seconds after Edwards leaves the room, Andrews says to himself "Now where did he put that top hat? Oh, here it is". Andrews then hears someone open the drawing room door. He asks "Something you want, Edwards? Oh, I thought it was my valet. What are you doing with that gun, you..." Two shots are heard, then Andrews drops to the floor! As he lay dying, he says "I should have known. I should have known..." Edwards, upon hearing the gunshots, rushes back into the drawing room. He says "Mr. Andrews! Mr. Andrews!" At that moment, the door bell rings. Edwards opens the door and says "Mr. Temple. Come quick. He's been shot! He's lying over here on the floor, sir." Temple rushes in, but sees that Andrews is dead. He says "No, a doctor won't help, Edwards. Better call the police. Brad Andrews is dead". The next morning, Edwards goes to see Mr. Keen and says "My name is Edwards, Mr. Keen. Have you read this morning's paper, sir, about Mr. Andrews' murder?" Mike Clancy says "We were talking about that a minute ago". Edwards says "I was Mr. Andrews' valet, sir. I've come to ask you to enter the case, Mr. Keen. I don't have much money, but...." Keen says "Sit down, Edwards, and try to calm yourself". Edwards says "It's been like a nightmare, sir. I found Mr. Andrews' body only a minute or two after I left him in the drawing room of his home. I heard the shots, but when I ran into the room, he was already dead".

John and Mary Clifton live in a small mining town of Larkin, Ohio. Mary is the young attractive wife who, unfortunately, is the target of idol gossip of the envious. Her husband, John, is a jealous man, who always drinks too much at the corner bar and sometimes gets wind of the gossip. Tonight, as usual, Mary has put supper in the warming oven while waiting for the sound of footsteps on the porch. Tonight, the steps are heavier than usual. John walks into their home and says "Mary....Mary?" She says "I'm right here. John". He asks "Oh, is supper ready?" Mary says "Yes. Let me have your dinner pale, dear". John says "I can take care of myself. And don't call me that". Mary asks "Call you what?" John says "Dear. Let me have your dinner pale, dear. Supper's ready, dear. Wash up, dear". Mary says "John, please". John asks "You know why I don't like the word?" Mary says "No". John says "Because I know that's what you call him, too". Mary asks "Who are you talking about?" John says "You know who I'm talking about. He was here again today, wasn't he?" Mary asks "Who do you mean?" John says "Jim Monroe". Mary says "Yes, Jim was here. He came to see you". John says "Don't give me that. Everybody in town knows who he comes to see. He's in love with you". Mary says "John, don't say that. Now look, you've been drinking". John says "That's what you always say when I start talking about you and him". Mary says "Please". John says "You don't like to hear me talk about it, do you? But you like it when he comes here to see you". Mary says "Stop it, John, I can't stand this". John says "But you can stand him loving you, can't you, Can't You?" In his jealous anger, John slaps Mary across her face. A few seconds later, Mary says "Thank you, John. Thank you for slapping me. It helped me get hold of myself so I can tell you something". He says "What?" She says "I'm leaving you". John says "Oh, no. You're not leaving. You don't think I'm going to let you go away with him, do you?"

In a night club on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, a sharply dressed man, with the nickname of "Ginger" is standing against a wall several feet from the piano player observing what went on at the bar. After a half hour or so, he walks across the floor to the office door in the back of the club. He opens the door and says "Hutch? He says "Come in, Ginger. How's business out there?" Ginger says "Slow, but that redhead is at the bar again". Hutch says "Yeah?" Ginger says "Yeah, she walked in about ten minutes ago alone, but I guarantee you she won't go out alone. She started working a guy already. What do you want me to do, throw her out?" Hutch says "Bring her in here. I want to talk to her". Ginger says "What she need is a good boot and then...." Hutch says "Ginger!" He says "I'll get her". Hutch says "Wait a second". Ginger asks "What's this going to be, another lecture?" Hutch says "It's going to be the same lecture. This has got to be a clean joint, Ginger. I don't want nobody kicked around. Let the others live on rough stuff. This joint has got to stay without bruises". Ginger says "Okay, I'll go home get my kid gloves". Hutch says "If there's any kicking around to be done here, I'll do it myself. Just watch out you're not on the receiving end. Now, go get her". Ginger says "Yeah, okay Hutch". Ginger goes up to the redhead and says "You, sister, come on". The guy she was talking to says "Now, see here. Leave the lady alone". Ginger says "Pal, I'm doing you a favor, believe me. She's a lush worker. You're better off. Harry, drink on the house for this gentleman". The guy says "Thanks a lot". Ginger says "The boss wants to see you". He takes her back to the office. Ginger says "Here she is, Hutch". Hutch says "Sit down, sister. She says "What is the beef? Just tell me and let me get out of here". Hutch says "It's very simple. I don't care how many drunks you roll or how much you take off them, more power to you, just don't set up your marks in my place".

Jeff Regan, Investigator - The Pilgrim's Progress
Monday Nov 10, 2025
Monday Nov 10, 2025
Jeff Regan went to the office Friday night about 5:20 answering the Lyon's call. He was sitting behind the desk sucking on a quarter cigar. He looked real pleased like a fat lady locked in a cream puff factory. The Lyon says "A man I know had a baby. He's a plumber named Broman or Groman, something like that". Jeff says "Mazel Tov". Lyon says "Cancel any arrangements you got for the night. I got something for you to do. You got your car?" Jeff says "It's in the lot". Lyon says "Gas it up, you're taking a trip to Calabasas. A man wants to see you". Jeff says "I got no friends out there". Lyon says "He's a friend of mine named Hendricks. He counts his money with an adding machine, and his fingers are always swollen". Jeff asks "What's the problem?" Lyon says "I don't know. He didn't say. He just called and told me to send out a man". Jeff asks "How much did he give you for a retainer?" Lyon says "When an important man like Hendricks calls, you don't insult him by asking for money". Jeff says "Oh, stop it, will you? You're the kind of guy who would steal pennies out of parking meters". Lyon says "That's enough". Jeff says "If one of them turned up empty, you'd sue the city". Lyon says "Here's the Hendrick's address. Now get out there". Jeff says "Alright". Lyon says "Regan, remember, do a good job and I'll give you Thanksgiving off, and I'll pay you". Jeff says "With what, cranberries?" It was dark by the time Jeff found the Hendricks place. In the front yard was a big fat guy who was holding a six foot gun in the shape of a straightened out tuba. He was wearing a high hat with a buckle on it. He was dressed in black and he had buckles all over him. Jeff figured that he been eating too much Quaker Oats. The man asks "Did the shooting makes you nervous?" Jeff says "That's a big gun there". The man says "It shoots musket balls. It's good for Indians". Jeff says "Well, I'm no Indian". The man says "I wasn't aiming at you". Jeff says "Well, that gun wouldn't know the difference". The man says "This is a Blunderbuss. It's a great weapon". Jeff asks "Do you live here?" The man says "Of course not, pilgrim. I'm Miles Standish".

The Epic Casebook - Warnings Anonymous
Monday Nov 10, 2025
Monday Nov 10, 2025
The telephone call came through just as Inspector Carr is about to leave for home at approximately 5:30 one Friday afternoon. The Inspector picked up the phone and says "Carr speaking". The dispatch says "There's someone on the line that says he wants to talk to you personally, sir. He says he's got a tip off". Carr says "A tip off? That's not my department, put him through to the X Branch". The dispatch says "He insists on speaking to you, sir. He says he knows you're the Murder Squad, and it's a matter of life and death". Carr says "Oh, one of those. Trying to trace the call are you?" Dispatch says "Oh, yes". Carr says "Good, well I'll try and keep him talking". Dispatch says "Right, sir. You're going through, speak up please". The anonymous speaker says "Inspector Carr?" He says "Yes, what can I do for you ?" The speaker asks "Does the name of Gunner Kane mean anything to you?" Carr says "Gunner Kane, should it?" The speaker says "It was you that got him life imprisonment. Fifteen years ago it is". Carr says "Oh, Gunner Kane, of course. Well, what about him?" The speaker says "I just want to tell you he's out. He's going to kill the judge that sentenced him and the lawyer that double-crossed him". Carr asks "Why do you want to tell me all this? Is he going to kill me too?" The speaker says "Ain't that enough? Oh, I see. You'll keep me talking. I'm speaking from a call box. I'm leaving now. Tell your boys don't even bother looking for fingerprints on this telephone. There won't be none, goodbye". Carr says "Just a minute....he's hung up." The dispatch gets back on the line and says "That call came from a telephone box in Leicester Square station, sir. A car is on his way" Carr says "Radio them and tell them not to bother. He's run off. There is something else you can do for me. I want you to get me all you can on the Gunner Kane case some time ago. I was a sergeant at the time. He shot and killed a constable, and I helped to get him convicted. He was a lucky man". The dispatch says "Lucky, Inspector?" Carr says "Very lucky. The government suspended capital punishment for a time".

Radio City Playhouse - Hit and Run

Sunday Nov 09, 2025
It is Friday afternoon, and Hal Lawrence, traveling salesman, is on his way home, looking forward to a nice weekend. He was driving a little faster than he should have, but it was a beautiful day and he was thinking about his wife, Ellen, and his young son, Jackie. He was driving on the hilly and winding section of Highway 11B and just getting into town when it happened. Hal did not see him. He was watching the road, but the young boy just ran right out front of his car. Hal says to himself "I hit him! The boy screamed, I know he screamed, but I couldn't hear him over the sound of the brakes. I hit him hard. He couldn't have been more than eight or nine years old. I hit him and then saw him fly through the air! I didn't mean to do it, but I didn't even see him hit the ground, because I didn't stop". Soon, Hal arrived home, despite being unable to stop himself from shaking and being terribly upset. He stops in front of his house, but can not get out of his car, because he is afraid somebody would see him and know what happened. Then, Hal hears a distant siren, slowly coming closer. He couldn't move. Suddenly, the siren goes past him. It was an ambulance passing by. He felt wet and cold with fear. He wished it was dark so that he could sneak into the house. Nervously, Hal opens the door of the car and hurries into his house. His wife, Ellen says "Hal? Hal is that you?" He says "Yes, it's me". Ellen says "You're home early, did everything go alright?" Hal says "Yes, yes". Ellen says "Would you like something to eat, darling?" Hal says "I don't want anything. I'm alright". Ellen says "Well, don't bite my ears off, I'm just asking". Hal says "I'm sorry Ellen, I didn't mean to." Ellen says "Well, dinner will be ready soon. You must be hungry after that terrible trip". Hal says "Stop talking about my trip" Ellen says "Something is wrong, Hal. You are not yourself".

The New Adventures of Nero Wolfe - The Disappearing Diamonds
Saturday Nov 08, 2025
Saturday Nov 08, 2025
The telephone is ringing in Mr. Wolfe's office. Archie answers it and says "Mr. Wolfe's Office. Archie Goodwin speaking. Willie Inch did you say? Just a second. Do you want to talk to a fellow named Willie Inch, which I doubt?" Mr. Wolfe says "No". Archie says "He says he's got to see you". Mr. Wolfe asks "Who is he?" Archie says "I'll ask. Mr. Wolfe doesn't recognize your name. He wants to know who you are". Archie listens for a few seconds, and says "Just a second, I'll tell him. Mr. Inch says he's a sneak thief. He says you never heard of him, but he's heard of you. Should I tell him to get lost?" Wolfe says "Wait a minute, Archie. Ask him what he wants". Archie says "Mr. Inch, Mr. Wolfe wants to know what you want to see him about. Archie says "It's about a phony murder rap". Wolfe says "It would have to be, wouldn't it, Archie?" Archie asks "How do you mean?" Wolfe says "Phony, I mean. Did you ever hear of a sneak thief committing murder, if it could possibly be avoided? Tell Mr. Inch I'll listen to his story". Later, in Wolfe's office, Mr. Inch says "Look, Mr. Wolfe, they're going to claim that I killed a woman I never even touched. And I'm going to fry for something I never even done". Wolfe says "Mr. Inch, you say you're a thief. Can you prove it?" Inch says "I got a record. Why?" Wolfe says "I was wondering about that bulge in your pocket". Inch says "Oh. Oh, here? It's a silver cigarette lighter. It gets sort of dropped into my pocket as I was going by. You see the way it happened..." Wolfe says "Never mind, Mr. Inch. Now tell me how you didn't kill the woman for whose murder you were frying". Inch says "Well, Mr. Wolfe, sir, it was like this. There was a window half open, you see, and I happened to crawl inside the house. I find myself in the bedroom, see? I was roaming around and I hear there's like a party going on. You know, people and music. So I locked the door. That's the mistake I make". Wolfe says "Mistake?" Inch says "Maybe I leave my fingerprints on the door. So later, a dame gets herself knocked off in the same room and they look for fingerprints. And they find mine. I'm it. That's all. I got a record. So it's the chair".

Box 13 - Design for Danger
Saturday Nov 08, 2025
Saturday Nov 08, 2025
Dan Holiday receives a letter in Box 13 that reads: "Dear Dan, I need your help desperately. Johnny Tide was released from the State Penitentiary this morning with murder in his heart. I don't know any of the details but I'm sure that he'll be back here in Watertown by nightfall, at the latest. If you mean what you say in your ad in the Star Times, be at the waterfront tonight and stop him. Remember, if you fail, Johnny Tide will kill or be killed by morning and that would be wrong because there's lots of good in him. I know, I love him, Janice Reed". That's the way it started, just a girl worrying about a boy, but before it was all over, a lot of people were worrying about that boy. They had to, if they wanted to live. Once Dan arrived in Watertown, he notices there are none of the usual rowdy noises, none at all. Watertown seems quiet, too quiet. Dan could feel a peculiar tension in the air as he walks the streets. The people he sees are hurrying along and vanishing into their dark doorways and shuttered houses, afraid. Suddenly, Dan hears two men talking. He stops in the shadows and listens. The first man says "I know what I'm talking about, Fatty. Johnny Tide was sprung this morning and he headed straight for here". Fatty says "Oh, maybe he ain't in Watertown, maybe he'd be afraid to come back". The man says "Oh, Johnny Tide afraid of what? You, Fatty Ralston? You know him, Fatty, or have you forgot?" Fatty says "Oh, shut up. You guys make me sick. That punk is headed for someplace else. He ain't coming back to Watertown". The man says "Just the same, Fatty, if I was you I'd be holding up someplace". Fatty says "Aww, go on, beat it. Get out of here". The man leaves and Fatty says "I ain't afraid of Johnny Tide. I ain't." Dan says "Why not, Fatty? Why should you be?" Fatty is startled, and asks "Who are you? What are you doing here?" Dan says "I just wanted to ask you a question". Fatty says "You don't know me, and I don't know you". Dan says "That's right". Fatty says "Then, run along and mind your own business, Mister". Dan says "I got business here".

Friday Nov 07, 2025
Robert and Martha Palmer from Muncie, Indiana, are visiting Havana and staying at Shannon's Place. After a full day of sightseeing, shopping, and enjoying the Havana hospitality, they are being entertained in the bar by King Moses. Saylor says "You must be tired, Mrs. Palmer, all the sightseeing you've done today, you and your husband. Martha says "Oh, Robert and I couldn't go to sleep now. We'll just go over there and sit in those handsome wicker chairs, discuss our follies and watch the lights of Havana, the colors. That's what we'll do, won't we, Robert?" He says "Whatever you wish, Martha". She says "Oh, I love you, Robert. You didn't mind all those things I bought today, do you? Robert says "Anything you do, Martha, it's alright". Saylor turns to Slate and says "I hope you were paying attention, Slate. Lesson one in how a gentleman treats a lady". Just then, a local peddler named Chico comes in to the bar hoping to make a sale. Slate says "Not tonight, Chico. We've got everything we need". Saylor says "Don't take it too hard, Chico. Here's a buck". Chico says "Please, I cannot take dollar and give nothing in return. Here, have a picture postcard and wear it in good health, adios". Slate says "A buck for a postcard?" Saylor said "It was my buck. I can.... hey, look at this, Slate. It's already been written on. It's addressed to you. It reads: I need you, Slate, right now. Drop everything, right now. Signed, Sam Meston". Slate says "Sam Meston? What does he want with me?" Saylor says "You won't go, will you, Slate? Not to help anyone like Meston". Slate says "He said he needed me, didn't he? You coming, Saylor?" She says "Sure. I love to help people like Sam Meston. They're so grateful they kick you in the teeth. Good night, Mr. and Mrs. Palmer, we have to go out". As soon as they leave, Martha says "You see, Robert, I told you it would work". Robert says "You're very clever, Martha". She says "Here's your coat, Robert. You'll need it in the chill night air. We'll lose them if you don't hurry".

Yes, I got the address, 1052 West 52nd Street. All right Mr. Jackson, thanks very much, bye". Peter says to himself "Wow, this is my lucky day!" He calls Hilda and says "Hello honey, guess what?" Hilda says "You're going to be late again". Peter laughs and says "No". She says "You're drunk". Peter says "I'm delirious, I just fell into a pot of gold. Mr. Jackson just phoned me, Steve Jackson". Hilda asks "Who's he?" Peter says "Well, I don't know but he's going to do a big operation and he needs a lawyer. He promised me 5,000 dollars!" Hilda says "Five thousand? Who recommended him to you?" Peter says "Nobody, just picked my name right out of the phone book". Hilda says "Uh-huh". Peter says "What's the matter?" Hilda says "Oh, nothing". Peter says "Now you know I've gotten several clients that way". Hilda asks "Did they pay you 5,000 dollar fees?" Peter says "Oh Hilda, now look I know it's a lot, but after all...." Hilda says "Yes honey, after all, he may be a nut with a bolt loose". Peter says "He sounded perfectly all right to me". Hilda says "So do you, when you're not listening. What time will you pick me up?" Peter says "What? um oh well honey, I'm afraid I can't make it tonight". Hilda says "Mr. Jackson?" Peter says "Yeah, I've got to be on time, at a quarter to eight". Hilda asks "Would he mind if you brought your secretary along?" Peter says "You know I haven't got one". Hilda says "You do from now on. One that is going to keep an eye on you". Later, Peter and Hilda arrive, on time, at 1052 West 52nd Street. Hilda asks "Are you sure this address is correct? Peter says "Yes". Hilda says "But there's no building here. Just a big hole in the ground".

Two police officers are standing next to their squad car when a driver speeds past. The first officer says "He's in a hurry. Hey, what was the license plate of that car we're supposed to look out for? The second officer says "UYT-576G". First officer says "Well, that was him, come on". They jump into their car and pursue the driver. After a few seconds, the driver slows down, pulls off the roadway, and stops. The first officer approaches the driver and says "Hurrying it on a bit weren't you sir?" The driver says "I might have been touching 40 MPH" First officer says "A bit more than that I'd say, sir". The driver asks "Are you going to charge me?" Officer says "Oh, no I....". Driver says "Then, I'm not in the mood to listen to lectures. I'll drive more slowly. Good night...." Officer says "Just a moment, sir. Is your name Hallet, David George Hallet?" Driver says "Yes, why?" Officer says "We've been asked to look out for you, sir. Would you please phone your home as soon as possible?" David says "Phone my home? What's wrong?" Officer says "That's all I know, sir. Just to ask you to phone home. If you continue up this road for about 4 miles, you'll see some public kiosks outside an all night garage, and, I wouldn't go quite so fast this time, sir. Good night". David soon reached the garage and called his home. Someone picked up the phone and David says "Hello, Claire?" A man's voice asks "What is your name?" David says "My name is Hallet. I live there. Who the devil are you? I want to speak to my wife". The man says "Oh, one moment please, Mr. Hallet". Claire comes to the phone and says "David". He says "Claire, who was that man?" She says "A policeman". David says "A policeman? What's happened?" Claire says "Can you come home, David, please?" David says "I want to know what's happened?" The policeman returns to the phone and says "Hello, Mr. Hallet. I'm afraid your wife isn't feeling too well. Do you think you could come home at once? Your son's been missing since 1 o'clock this morning".

For Sam Melnick, a Police Reporter for the United Press operating out of the Kansas City Bureau, it has been a long, dull day. It is now time for dinner, and there is one place he always goes. It's the best meal in Kansas City, so he gets on the phone to make a reservation. She picks up the phone and says "Hello?" Sam says "Hello, Ma, it's Sam". She asks "What time will you be home for dinner?" Sam says "About an hour. What's for dinner?" She says "Pot roast, with potato pancakes and applesauce". Sam says "Tell me more. What's for dessert?" She says "Your favorite". Sam says "You don't mean lemon meringue pie!" She says "I do, and now son, you'll have to excuse me. I've got to get back to the kitchen. I'll expect you in an hour". Sam says "Oh Mom, wait a minute. I've changed my mind. Better make that, a half hour". On his way home, Sam stops in at Frank's Bar, just for a quick one. Sam arrives at his mother's house a little after dinner time. His mother asks him "Sam, where have you been?" Sam says "On the way home, I stopped at Frank's place". She says "Oh, I wondered what happened to you. Well, I've got everything all ready. You better get washed up and ...." Just then, the phone rings. His mother says "Oh no. Sam don't answer it". Sam says "I'd better, Mom". She says "It's probably that night manager down at the bureau again. And if that man thinks he's going to take you away from my dinner again, just because of a story...." Sam says "Forget it, Ma, It's been a dull day. I'll just brush him off and sit down to dinner". Sam answers the phone and talks to the night manager for a few minutes. He suddenly hangs up the phone and says "Mom, I've got to rush". She asks "What about my pot roast and pancakes?" Sam says "Keep it warm, Mom, I'll be back as soon as I can. A big story is breaking". She asks "What big story?" Sam says "A father just murdered his daughter".

Dr. McGraw is making his rounds at the hospital. As he is nearing his office, a woman is waiting for him. She says "Dr. McGraw, I've been waiting for you. Are you about through for the day?" Dr. McGraw asks "Why?" She says "A doctor takes care of people, doesn't he? I want you to come look at somebody. My car's outside. Can you leave now?" McGraw says "Now, just a second. I gather this patient of yours isn't here in the hospital?" She says "That's right". McGraw says "I'm afraid you've made a mistake. You see, I'm just an assistant resident here. I have no private practice". She says "Well, here's your chance to start one". McGraw says "I don't think you understand". She says "Yes I do. You're the one who's slow on the uptake". McGraw asks "Who is this patient anyway? Why doesn't he come here?" She asks "You can't think of a reason?" McGraw says "No". She says "I see you've got today's paper here. Didn't you look at it, this item here?" McGraw says "Oh, that gang shooting upstate. Yes I saw that. Never heard of the two men they picked up". He pauses for a second and says "Wait, is there somebody else involved?" She says "You're getting warm". McGraw asks "Who are you anyway?" She says "A friend of someone close to you, Doc, very close". McGraw asks "My brother?" She says "Well, you made it. Do you want to stop there, or do you want to go for the jackpot?" McGraw says "I think I'll stop there". She says "They're driving him back to town and should be at my place around 10 o'clock. That gives us a little time". McGraw says "I asked you who you were before...." She says "And I said I was a friend of Joe's. Isn't that enough for you, or do you want me to spell it out for you?" McGraw says "No, you don't have to spell it out, just get out of here". She says "Doc, you're not being a bit friendly". McGraw says "You're the one who's slow now. I told you to get out. Doesn't that make it clear that I'm not going with you?"

Suspense - On a Country Road
Monday Nov 03, 2025
Monday Nov 03, 2025
Married couple David and Dorothy are driving back home in their car after a picnic. Dorothy says "Relax, David there's no hurry to get home". David says "Who can relax in this mess of traffic? There must be a wreck or something up ahead" Dorothy says "If this keeps up, we'll get caught in the rain". David says "Yeah, looks like a big storm building up too. Hey, remember that shortcut?" Dorothy asks "Which one?" David says "Oh that little tarred road that goes across through Center Moriches and comes out on the other highway". Dorothy says "What we took last summer?" David says "Yeah, I'll turn off there and avoid this pile up. I'd like to get as far as possible before that storm hits". Just then, another car turns in front of them. David yells "Why don't you put out your hand?" Dorothy says "David, don't get mad". He says "Well, he cut right in front of me trying to turn into that gas station". Dorothy says "Maybe he needed gas". David says "Turn on the radio, huh?" The radio announcer says "Warning to all to all residents of Long Island. Be on the look out for Nelly Galler, a middle-aged woman described as dangerous and insane. She escaped this morning from Restview Mental Hospital after fatally butchering a doctor, a nurse, and a ward attendant, with a meat cleaver. This is the same Nelly Galler who, a year ago, murdered three persons on a Brooklyn Street. This station had her description on our regular newscast...." David says "At least we aren't the only crazy people on Long Island". Dorothy changes the radio station. David asks "Why did you change it?" She says "I don't want to listen anymore. Let's get home quickly, David. I don't like being out here with that woman running loose". At that moment, the thunder and rain begin. David says "Uh-oh, here's the storm. Roll up the windows".

A Case for Dr. Morelle - The Gambler
Monday Nov 03, 2025
Monday Nov 03, 2025
Dr. Morelle and Miss Frayle are walking along the Chelsea bank. Miss Frayle says "Oh, it's a lovely night, doctor. Even if there is a bit of a mist off the river". Morelle says "We'll walk a little way further, and then get a taxi". They soon hear a telephone ringing. Miss Frayle says "That ringing. Do you hear that doctor?" Morelle says "I do Miss Frayle". She says "It's the phone in this call box. Listen, doctor". Morelle says "People who don't possess a telephone sometimes arrange to receive a call in a public telephone box". Miss Frayle says "But there's nobody waiting". Morelle says "I had already observed that". Miss Frayle says "Perhaps someone's got onto the call box number by mistake". Morelle says "That may be an explanation". Miss Frayle says "Well, I wonder if we should answer it?" Morelle says "What concern should it be of ours?" Miss Frayle says "Well, none at all, I know, but it might be someone in need of help or something". Morelle says "You mean you cannot resist giving way to that feminine curiosity of yours?" Miss Frayle says "I'm going to answer it". Morelle says "I'll hold the door open for you". Miss Frayle asks "Do you want to hear what it's all about?" Morelle says "Nothing of the kind". Miss Frayle says "I believe your masculine curiosity is just as great as mine. Hello?" The voice on the line says "Is that Dr. Franklin's house? It's Mrs. Ludlow. Tell him to come quickly. Something terrible has happened. You must come at once. It's my husband". Miss Frayle says "Dr. Morelle, someone's phoning for a doctor". Morelle says "Well, let me speak to them. Hello, Mrs..." She says "Doctor, come quickly. It's Mrs. Ludlow. It's my husband". Morelle asks "Where are you?" She says "At home. Something dreadful has happened". Morelle asks "What's the address?" She says "32 Blake Street off Sloan Street. Oh, please hurry, please". Morelle says "I'll come straight away". Miss Frayle says "What an extraordinary thing, doctor". Morelle says "She must have dialed the wrong number in her agitation".

I Was a Communist for the FBI - I Can't Sleep
Sunday Nov 02, 2025
Sunday Nov 02, 2025
Matt Cvetic is talking on the telephone to his contact at the FBI. He says "I've got to see you right away. I'm heading for a conference with a big wheel and if it's about what I think it is, I'd better talk to you". The contact asks "Where are you calling from?" Matt says "Drugstore phone booth". The contact says "Then, let me do the talking. Do you think the meeting is about Otto Janus?" Matt says "They say it was suicide. I think it was murder". The contact says "Never mind what you think. Just let the comrades think you believe it was suicide". Matt asks "Was it?" Contact says "Look, Matt, go to that conference with Buchek, but watch yourself. You may be in a tough spot". Matt says "I have a funny feeling I'm on the same spot Otto Janus was before he got his". Contact says "Go to the meeting, then meet me on the southwest corner of 9th and Viaduct". Matt says "Okay". Contact says "Watch yourself". As Matt walks toward the communist headquarters for his meeting with Joseph Bucheck, Matt is thinking "Was Otto Janus told to watch himself before they found him dead?" He notices his footsteps echo the cadence of a name familiar to Americans who read good books. "Otto Janus, author and critic, Otto Janus, author of Farewell Nero, author of Citizen Slav, authored Trumpet the Brave Country, history, immigrant, patriot, communist party member, and corpse. He was found hanging pitifully in his hotel room in New York City. Why such an end to such a man? How? That's what Joseph Buchek wants to talk to me about. Little Joe, very close to Big Joe himself in the Kremlin. Watch yourself, Cvetic".

The Mysterious Traveler - Death Writes a Letter
Sunday Nov 02, 2025
Sunday Nov 02, 2025
Martin Drake, a well known financier, is having an argument about the world of the spiritualism with his older brother John, an ardent believer. Martin's daughter, Susan, enters the room unnoticed. Martin says "John, how can you possibly believe in such things. Spiritualism?, nonsense is a better word for it". John says "To a skeptic everything is nonsense, but if you'd seen and heard what I have, you too would believe". Susan says "Hello Father and Uncle John, I see you two are up to your old arguments". John says "Well, your father is a very stubborn man". Martin says "Well, I may be stubborn, but I'm no fool. Imagine believing in spiritualism, telepathy, and all that tommy rot". John says "I believe in spiritualism Martin and that the living can communicate with the dead, and nothing you can say will swerve me from my beliefs". Susan says "Uncle John, in all these years you've been studying spiritualism, have you ever been able to communicate with Aunt Judith?" John says "No Susan, I haven't but there have been times late at night when I've all but broken through the barrier that separates us". Martin says "Oh, I give up. There's no use in arguing with a man who has an obsession". Susan says "Oh that's fine Father, now the three of us can go in to supper". John says "Well, I'm sorry Susan, but I can't stay for supper". Susan asks "Oh, why not?" John says "I have an appointment with an oneirocritic". Martin says "A what?" John says "An oneirocritic, a man who's an interpreter of dreams". Martin says "John, good grief, don't tell me you believe in that too?" John says "Why not Martin? For years psychoanalysts have interpreted dreams in an effort to help their patients". Martin says "Now John, I'm warning you, if you don't give up this obsession of yours, there's no telling how you'll end". John says "Martin, one day you will see that I'm right".

Detective Sergeant Joe Friday was on the way home from the office. It was 2 25 a.m. when he got to 4656 Collis Avenue, Walking in the back door, he hears his mother ask "Joseph? Is that you?" He says "Yeah, Ma. Did I wake you?" She asks "What time is it?" He says "A little after two". She says "Oh, you can't keep this up. You've got to have your rest". He says "Don't worry, I'm okay. Got any cold meat in the icebox?" She says "There's some pressed ham, and a few slices of bologna. Didn't you have any dinner?" He says "A couple hamburgers and a piece of pie. I got hungry again". She says "I had some nice beef stew for dinner. There's some left in the icebox. I'll come down and warm it for you". He says "No, all I want is a sandwich, Ma. You go on back to sleep". She says "You can't live on pie and sandwiches and keep up your strength. You're working all hours, first thing you know, you'll be getting sick. You need your food and you need your rest. Nobody cares when you're sick". He says "You didn't have to get up, Ma. All I want is a sandwich, I can fix it". She says "You better have a bowlful of stew. Here, it won't take a minute to warm it up". He says "Okay, not too much now. I'll get the milk". She says "It's half past two in the morning. What kept you so late again?" He says "Another steak out, the same job". She asks "Is that the murder in Highland Park?" He says "No, Ma, the Badge Bandit, the one that poses as a policeman". She says "Oh, that one. You certainly ought to do something about him". He says "Yeah, well, we're trying, Ma. We're trying to find him". She says "There was an article in the paper about it tonight. They say it's just terrible the way he beats up people and robs them. They ought to put him away. Are you going to have tomorrow off, Joseph?" He says "No, the captain says we work straight through till we get the guy". She says "You ought to tell that captain you need your rest".

Night Beat - The Black Cat
Friday Oct 31, 2025
Friday Oct 31, 2025
It was pouring rain, but Randy still had to have a story for tomorrow's paper. He was in the Madison District of Chicago, on the corner of Martin Street when he saw two or three shadowy figures staring at a big ugly black cat on the street. The cat walks around in circles like some demented thing. It's yellow eyes catching the light from the street lamp above. An old man was trying to coax it away. He says "You got to come home with me. I got milk for you, honest I have, and a warm fire. You like to be warm don't you?" Randy says "That cat's gone crazy, old-timer, I wouldn't go near him if i were you". Another man standing there says "She's been acting like that since they took Nick Corby's body away, almost an hour ago. won't let anyone near it". The old man says "Well, they shouldn't have done it. Nick won't like Tillie standing out here in the rain". The other man says "He won't mind too much, Mac, him being dead". Randy says "Come on Pop, I'll take you home. The cat will come in after a while". The old man says "They killed him and Tillie knows who done it. Aren't you going to tell me who done it?" Randy asks the other man "What's with that old guy?" He says "He's a little off, harmless though". Randy asks "What about this Corby?" The man says "He went out for a walk with the cat. Somebody heisted him. They took his dough, and left a bullet hole in his head". Randy asks "Did the cops get anything at all?" He says "They didn't bother much. Asked a few questions, then shoveled them into the meat wagon". Randy says "Well, I guess I'll be moving on". The man says "Me too. Hey, you want to know something?" Randy says "Yeah, always". The man says "This will give you a laugh. You look just like him". Randy asks "Like who?" The man says "You look just like Nick Corby".

Dangerous Assignment - Berlin Kidnapping Ring
Wednesday Oct 29, 2025
Wednesday Oct 29, 2025
Steve Mitchell walks into the Commissioner's office. Steve says "Good morning, Commissioner. Ruth said you had an assignment for me". The Commissioner says "I do Steve, ever been kidnapped?" Steve says "Kidnapped? Well, I remember a redhead once who claimed we were out of gas". Commissioner says "I'm sure you put up a terrific struggle". Steve says "Like a tiger at bay". Commissioner says "Well, that's all very interesting, but I didn't send for you to hear your memoirs. You're leaving for Berlin on the next plane". Steve says "I'm flying clear to Berlin so somebody can kidnap me?" Commissioner says "No, you're flying there to find out who's been kidnapping other people. Apparently, there's been a nasty little racket flourishing in our occupation zone of Berlin for some time. It only came to light last night. A prominent German named Mueller was kidnapped several days ago. His wife received a ransom note telling her that if she didn't raise the required money, her husband would be turned over to interests in the eastern zone of Berlin. Apparently, this Mueller had made a few enemies there". Steve says "I see, sort of sell Mueller to the highest bidder, huh?" Commissioner says "Yes, his wife raised the money and Mueller was returned, but when he tried to grab the man who returned him, he was shot and killed on his own doorstep". Steve says "Look, this is all very interesting, but isn't kidnapping a matter for the Berlin police? What's it got to do with us?" Commissioner says "I'll tell you why it's our baby. Apparently, the kidnapper was a US Government official". Steve says "What? Now look, don't try to tell me you believe that". Commissioner says "I'm just giving you the facts, Steve. What's behind those facts would be another story, and I'm convinced that is what it is. That's what you're going over there to find out".

The Adventures of the Falcon - The Case of the Superfluous Murder
Wednesday Oct 29, 2025
Wednesday Oct 29, 2025
On a Sunday night in New York, Pudgy Wesley Endicott opens the door to his apartment and reaches for the light switch, but stops when he hears a noise in the darkened living room. He pauses for a few seconds, then clicks the switch. He sees Dennis Fulton jumping back from the sofa, on which Endicott's startled wife, Gail, is sitting. She says "Wesley, I didn't expect you so early". Endicott says "That's pretty obvious". Fulton says "I know how it looks, Endicott, but don't get the wrong idea". Endicott says "No Dennis, what idea do you expect me to get?" Fulton says "We were just talking". Endicott says "In the dark?" Fulton asks "What can I say?" Endicott says "You don't have to say anything. I should have known, the way Gail's been acting lately. Gail, how could you do this to me?" Gail says "You really want to know?" Endicott says "Yes". She says "Then, look in the mirror. Take a good look". Endicott says "You're not going to get away with this, either of you". Gail asks "What are you going to do about it?" Endicott says "I'm going to kill that cheap double crossing...." Gail says "No Wesley, don't" Endicott says "Get out of my way". A fight starts, and Endicott says "And now, Dennis here's yours!" Fulton says "If you're going to fight for the honor of your home, Endicott, you better start taking boxing lessons". The next day, Endicott is visited at his place of business by an angry associate named Mr. Mayo. Mayo walks into the office and Shepard, Endicott's secretary, says "Yes sir, what can I do for you?" Mayo says "I want to see Endicott". Shepard asks "Who shall I say is calling?" Mayo says "You don't need say anybody's calling. I'll announce myself". Shepard says "But, you can't...." Mayo barges into Endicott's office and says "Hello, Endicott". Shepard says "Mr. Endicott, I tried to stop him, but he wouldn't tell me what he wanted". Endicott says "It's alright, Shepherd. It's alright. I know him. Go back to your desk and shut the door".

Tales of the Texas Rangers - Fool's Gold
Wednesday Oct 29, 2025
Wednesday Oct 29, 2025
Shortly after 9 o'clock in the morning on the Tuesday after Labor Day, two men named Joseph Foy and John Thomas are in a late model black sedan cruising slowly along the main street of the town of Live Oak in West Texas. Joe says "Alright, let's go over it once more...." John says we've been over it twenty times, Foy. Let's get it done". Joe says "I ain't taking a chance on you making any mistakes". John says "I ain't making mistakes. You think I want to go back to Huntsville again? I haven't done anything but case this bank since I got out of the pen a month ago". Joe says "You sure there's no guard?" John says "No, I told you. A town like this? They ain't got but two tellers in the cage. But they got an alarm system though". Joe says "If one of them moves for an alarm, start blasting". John asks "How are we gonna hide out afterwards? Joe says "You leave that to me. We'll beat our way back to where I've been working. Round up will be starting tomorrow. I'll get the old man to take you on until things cool off". John says "That's good". Joe says "Yeah, ain't nobody gonna suspect a poor working cow poke. Here we are". They stop the car, step out, and enter the bank. Joe says "You keep me covered while I cash the check". John says "Yeah, I bet they ain't never cashed a check like that before". Joe says "Shut up". The teller says "Hi gentlemen, what can I do for you?" Joe says "Cash this". Joe hands the teller a note that reads "Pass over five thousand dollars". The teller yells "Robbers!" Joe says "Hand over that money or I'll blast you!" The teller activates the alarm. John yells "You crazy old man!" and Joe shoots him! John yells "Let's get out of here! We'll drop anybody who gets in the way! `They jump into the car and take off. John says "Look out! Car coming out of that side street!" Joe says "Let them look out!" Suddenly, a large crash is heard!

Stand By for Crime - Mines of Murder
Wednesday Oct 29, 2025
Wednesday Oct 29, 2025
A gold mining speculator named John Hendricks purchased an abandoned mine up near Las Vegas on the California side of the Nevada boundary. After three months work, three of Hendrick's employees have met their deaths on the job. Chuck Morgan learned that each of the three had been insured for a sizable amount, with Mr. Hendricks himself named as beneficiary. After mentioning this on his radio broadcast, Hendricks insisted that Chuck visit him at the mine and then decide for himself whether the remarks were justified. The next day being Saturday, Chuck invited his secretary Carol Curtis to spend a couple of days with him in the country. They start their trip early the next morning. Carole says "You know Chuck, it was only about three months ago that we were driving along this very road". Chuck says "Glamor Puss, unless I'm wrong, which I seldom am, you're right". Carole says "And unless I'm wrong, which I never am, you promised me we were going to Las Vegas on that trip and we never got there. Chuck says "You're right again". Carole asks "Well?" Chuck says "Well what? Carole says "Did I bring my strapless evening gown for nothing this time?" Chuck says "That depends upon what we find at the Straight Banana". Carole says "I beg your pardon". Chuck says "I should have mentioned it before. Straight Banana is the name of a mine that John Hendricks bought. There's a range of hills nearby that looks like a banana that someone straightened out". Carole says "Oh, I see. Like that range over there?" Chuck says "Oh, I'm glad you noticed that. I'd have driven right by". They soon find the road that leads to the mine. A few seconds later, Carole hears a noise and asks "What was that?" Chuck says "It sounded like a shot". Carole says "History is repeating itself. The last time we were up here someone took a pot shot at us". Chuck says "Honey, it's different this time. We aren't the ones being shot at. Look". Carole says "There's a man running as though he were being shot at". Chuck says "He is being shot at. As a matter of fact, he's being hit".

Broadway is My Beat - The Laura Burton Murder Case
Tuesday Oct 28, 2025
Tuesday Oct 28, 2025
Detective Danny Clover is assigned to look into the death of Laura Burton. She was found in a room of a waterfront hotel. When Danny arrives at the scene, Detective Muggerman is already there. Mrs. Burton was found sprawled on the floor, with her head resting on the edge of a bed. Muggerman hands Danny a cigarette, and asks "Need a light, Danny?" Danny says "Yeah, thanks". Muggerman says "If you want coffee, the manager's perking some down the hall. He's very friendly. He said while I waited I could...." Danny says "Strangled". Muggerman says "Yeah, it was a cord off a robe, men's bathrobe I'd say". Danny asks "Where's the rest of it?" Muggerman says "Couldn't find it Danny, I've been all over. The killer cut it in half. Thrifty type killer, half a bathrobe cord, very thrifty". Danny asks "Who found her?" Muggerman says "The manager". Danny says "The friendly one?" Muggerman says "Yeah, a husband and wife registered here. Earlier this morning, the husband woke the manager out of a sweet dream, and told him to bring breakfast to his wife in a half an hour. The manager did, but she said she wasn't hungry. So, the manager ate the breakfast himself". Danny says "You said her husband". Muggerman says "Yeah, Robert Burton is her husband. He registered here last night with his wife, Laura Burton. They had no baggage, and paid in advance. You're not reacting". Danny asks "You said something?" Muggerman says "Yeah, I did. I said Laura Burton, and you didn't react". Danny asks "She dies differently from other people?" Muggerman says "Danny, I only meant that it's funny you haven't heard about Laura Burton. You know the heiress. Her Daddy made millions in baby food. She was educated by Counts, Dukes, and ski instructors. She even married a few of them. Funny you haven't heard". Danny asks "Where's her husband?" Muggerman says "I told you. He ordered a breakfast, took a walk, and fed a seagull. That's the last time anyone saw him, talking to a seagull". Muggerman sighs loudly. Danny asks "What's the matter with you?" Muggerman says "With all that money and a Park Avenue mansion, she dies like this. In a place like this".

Nick Carter, Master Detective - Ready for Murder
Monday Oct 27, 2025
Monday Oct 27, 2025
Nick and Patsy are entering the hotel room of John Ames, a young friend of Nick's. John says "Oh hello, Nick and Patsy, glad to see you. Come on in". Nick says "Thanks, good to see you again". Patsy says "Oh Nick, look at that darling Scotty on the bed". John says "Hey Mac, get down off that bed". Patsy says "Oh, he looks so cute there with his head on the pillow". John says "I've never been able to break McTavish of the habit. Oh, by the way, this is Chief Danis of the local police. This is Nick Carter and Patsy Bowen, Chief. Well, let's get down to business. Chief Danis and I have just come from my Aunt Mary's funeral. As you know the coroner's verdict was that my Aunt Mary killed herself with aconite, but I don't believe it". Nick asks "Why not, John?" He says "Well first, because she just wasn't the suicide kind. Second, because if she'd wanted to kill herself, she would have used poison she was more familiar with. She was a gardener and knew all about nicotine sulfate and arsenic, and so on". Nick says "There's nothing very positive there". Chief Danis says "Well Mr. Carter how about this, since John's grandfather, Old Henry Ames, passed on at the age of 83 four years ago, three of the heirs have died. Typhoid killed Frank last year, Phil was shot in a hunting accident two years ago, and now Mary dies of aconite poisoning, but the Purcell's keep right on running the farm the way they always have". Patsy asks "Who are the Purcell's?" John says "Adam and Paul Purcell were first employed as farm managers by my grandfather. Each successive owner since then has kept them on". Nick says "So far everything seems quite open and above board". Chief Danis says "Yes, but each time one of the last three Ames's has died, the word "murder" has been whispered all over town". Patsy says "But why? I don't get it". Chief says "Well it's just a feeling, no proof at all, but the rumor persists that the Purcell's know more about it than they can let on".

The Adventures of Frank Race - The Adventure of the House Divided
Sunday Oct 26, 2025
Sunday Oct 26, 2025
Frank was in San Francisco on Chestnut Street when he smells the aroma of hot fresh baked bread. He quickly makes his way toward the door of an old-fashioned bakery. There were several customers at the counter, so he is forced to wait. Suddenly, a hand touches his arm. A man says "You're Frank Race ain't you?" Frank says "Yes, I know you don't I?" The man says "I'm Tom Crowell". Frank says "Crowell, of course I remember you". Crowell says "I used to work for Manhattan Insurance Company. I was with you on the Lambert Case". Frank says "You saved my life with some pretty fast shooting. What made you leave the insurance company?" Crowell says "I'm not as young as I used to be, Race. I get tired of traveling, so I turn private eye for whoever wants to hire me. I'm on a job right now and I think I'm in a jam". Frank asks "A jam?" Crowell says "Yeah, it's this package. I think I'm being followed because I'm carrying it. That's why I ducked in here. I thought I'd go out the back way into the alley. I picked a bad one, because there's no back way and no alley which means that if they've spotted me I'm stuck, but good. Four to one. Kind of rough odds". Frank says "Call it four to two, Crowell". He says "I was hoping you'd say that Race, but there's one of them now on the sidewalk". The man on the sidewalk eyed us for a second or so, then, slipping a hand inside the lapel of his jacket, he started for the bakery door. A second man followed him. As they came inside, I moved away from Crowell and stepped up to the counter. The clerk asks "What can I do for you sir?" Frank says "I'll just take a couple of these chocolate eclairs you have here. How much?" The clerk says "That will be 30 cents. Would you like a bag for them?" Frank says "No thanks. I'll just keep them in my hands. Care for one of these, Crowell?" He says "No thanks, Race". The man from the sidewalk says "Better have one, Crowell. You take that and we'll take that package you carry. Don't get any ideas about going for the heater. I've got mine in my hand already".

Mr. and Mrs. North - Bet on Murder
Sunday Oct 26, 2025
Sunday Oct 26, 2025
It's a warm Manhattan evening when tall, well-dressed Bruce Daniel steps from his car, turns, and almost bumps into a worried looking little man named Freddy. At the sight of Daniels, the worry on Freddy's face gives way to fear. He turns and starts to run. He turns a corner, bumps into someone, rights himself, pushes past, and runs again. He reaches an alley, darts into it, looks anxiously for somewhere to hide, sees a doorway, and hurries to it. He tries the door, but finds it locked. He presses his back tightly against it. Now, he waits and listens. Daniels says "Hello, Freddy. You don't seem very anxious to see me, fella". Freddy says "You're gonna get your money, Mr. Daniels" He says "Sure I am, Freddy. I'm not worried about that". Freddy says "I'm working on something". Daniels says "Yeah, sure, Freddy, sure. You know, it's a funny thing. For a month I've been looking for you and no dice. And then tonight, just by accident...." Freddy says "If you'll just give me a little time". Daniels says "All right, Freddy. Oh, say, by the way, you know, I finally tried to reach you at home, but your wife didn't know where you were. Hey, you ought to get in touch. She's worried about you. I'd hate to think that you were staying away just on my account. You know, I don't want to make trouble for you. All I want's my money". Freddy says "Five thousand dollars is a lot of money to me, but, but I'll get it". Daniels says "Yeah, I know you will, Freddy. There's just one thing. I'd hate for people to get the idea that I'm a sucker, that people can run up debts with me and then not pay off". Freddy says "Oh, I don't think that, Mr. Daniels". He says "Oh, I know you don't, Freddy, but if I'm too easy with a guy like you, then somebody's likely to get the wrong idea. So, I'm afraid that I'm going to have to make an example of you". Freddy says "What are you going to....no, no, let go!" Daniels says "Yeah, sure. After I show you what happens to guys who run out, just so there won't be any misunderstanding". A few seconds later, Jerry and Pam North are walking nearby, see what is happening, and go to help Freddy.

Detective Inspector Caswell is in a meeting with plain clothes Sergeant of Police Jim Barrett. Caswell says "Sit down Barrett. There is no need to tell you that this is a most unfortunate and irritating business. You had no right to meet that hoodlum in that alley alone, you know that". Barrett says "I suppose so, sir, but, I thought perhaps I could pin him down myself". Caswell says "A good policeman doesn't go around looking for kudos for himself, he does his job according to the rules". Barrett says "Yes, sir, I know that but...." Caswell says "There are no buts. You've seen for yourself what happens when you disregard the rules. You get nowhere, and almost get yourself killed". Barrett says "It was only a slight knock on the head, sir. I feel alright now". Caswell says "Yeah, and so does Vicory. He must be laughing himself sick at the way you made a fool of yourself. What did you expect when you went to meet him on your own?" Barrett says "I don't know exactly, but I thought I might get something out of him, sir. He said he wanted to make a deal". Caswell says "Make a deal, now you're starting to sound like Peter Troy or somebody. Barrett, this is Police Department, not some training ground for those who fancy themselves as the detectives of novelettes". Barrett says "Yes, sir". Caswell says "Turn out your pockets, Barrett". He asks "My pockets, sir?" Caswell says "Yes, start with the inside ones on your jacket". Barrett asks "What for, sir?" Caswell says "Because I tell you to, go on". Barrett says "Yes, sir. There's nothing in here, but my wallet, pen, and comb. My wife insists I carry a comb and I...." Barrett suddenly finds something else. Caswell asks "What's that you have there?" Barrett says "I don't know, sir, it looks like...." Caswell says "It looks like a very large sum of money. Give it to me. There's every bit of a thousand pounds here, Barrett. What are you doing with this in your pockets?" Barrett says "I don't know, sir. I never saw it before". Later, Caswell stops by Peter Troy's office. He says "Troy, I'm in a spot and I need your help, or rather one of my men does. Jim Barrett met with Vicory last night in a dark alley. Barrett was knocked unconscious and awoke with a thousand pounds in his pocket.
