Mr. Chameleon - The Dazed Girl Murder Case

At three o'clock on a bright autumn afternoon, Mr. Chameleon is standing in front of his office window, gazing at the street below, when suddenly, his office door is flung open. The Police Commissioner comes in and hurriedly says "Chameleon, let me give you this quick. I'm sending Detective Arnold in with a dazed hysterical girl who says she just saw a ghastly murder committed". Chameleon says "What?" The girl says "Yes, I saw it. I saw it, that horrible night! ... the blood ..."  Detective Arnold says "Easy, Miss ..." The Commissioner says "That's all she keeps saying, the knife, the blood! Oh, Miss Wren, this is Mr Chameleon.  She says ... the knife ... the blood". Commissioner says "I'll leave it to you, Chameleon. Maybe you can get something out of her". Chameleon says "You look like a girl in need of a friend, Miss Wren. What do your friends call you?" She says "Eileen, but I have no friends. The only one I had, I saw murdered this afternoon. It was my guardian, Glendale Ferguson. Oh, he was so kind. He couldn't believe there was wickedness in anyone". Chameleon says "Eileen, start at the beginning and tell me exactly what happened". Eileen says "Mr. Chameleon, I was in my guardian, Mr. Ferguson's, study this afternoon. I was sitting across the desk from him when Ferguson said "You're making me very happy. I know you're getting better. You'll soon be the girl you were when you came to me". She says "Yes, but I still keep seeing murder in this house". Ferguson said "Eileen, don't get back on that track again. It's just what we're trying to cure". Eileen told him "But I tell you, I beg you to listen. Your own sister, Mrs. Lambert, she's gonna kill you". Ferguson laughs, and said "Elizabeth is going to kill me? Nonsense". Eileen told him "She's bringing people to this house to murder them. I've heard the screams. The terror of it". Ferguson said "Well,, at least she's not murdering anybody now. She's baking a loaf of bread. At any minute, she'll bring it in here hot and give each of us a piece".
