It was November 11th, Armistice Day, and the town was having a parade. Phillip Penn was there on the street watching it. He didn't want to miss anything. He was standing on the north side of Sixth Street, off of Curtis Street, right by the alley. As he is watching the parade, he saw a lady wearing a fur coat. She was about five feet from him, sort of standing on her toes trying to look over everybody's head. Phillip looked around to make sure she was alone, before he came up behind her. She says "You ... what?" Phillip says "Easy now". She says "Just a minute, that's my purse!" Phillip says "You weren't supposed to notice, lady, but now that you have, this is a knife. Don't make a move, not one single little move or I'll shove it in your back". She let's out a little scream. Phillip stabs her and says "I said not to move". He put his arm around her and held her up until the drum and bugle corps passed by. No one noticed as he let her slip to the ground. Then, Phillip just turned around and walked away. The next day, the newspaper called it the Armistice Day Killing. The article said her name was Tyler and that her husband did something for the county. The Tyler's pictures were all over the front page, so that night Phillip caught myself a bus for St. Louis and stayed there about a month. Later, Phillip returned home in time for Christmas. One morning, a few days later, Phillip hears at knock at his door. He asks "Who is it?" The voice says "It's Mrs. Weaver, the landlord". Phillip asks "What time is it?" She says "It's eight o'clock. There are two men downstairs who want to talk to you. They're from the police department". Phillip says "Policemen?" Mrs. Weaver says "Yes, policeman. I told them that you were sleeping, and asked if they could come back later. They said they wanted to talk to you right now. Are you in any trouble?" Phillip says "I don't know. I hope not. Tell them I'll be right down, Mrs. Weaver", She says "Well all right, Mr. Penn. They must have made a mistake or something".
