Box 13 - Last Will and Nursery Rhyme
Sunday Apr 12, 2026
Sunday Apr 12, 2026
Dan Holiday receives a letter in his Box 13 from an old college friend, Ted Kenworth. The letter reads "Dan, I'm inviting you up to Fair Oaks to spend the last weekend with me. Forget your Box 13 gag for a while and grab yourself a little vacation. There's not much I can offer in the way of excitement or adventure, but if you'll really go any place or do anything, you'll like seeing the crumbling grandeur of the last of the Kenworth's. You know how to get here and I'll be waiting. How about it? Signed, Ted". Susie says "I think you should go, Mr. Holiday. You need a rest" Dan says "Oh, Susie, every time I go for a rest, something happens to me". Susie says "But what can happen at a nice quiet place like Fair Oaks? From what your friend Ted says about it, it's just the spot to take it easy". Dan says "Okay, Susie, you talked me into it. Forward my mail to Fair Oaks, care of Ted Kenworth". Later that evening, Dan arrived at Fair Oaks, a large stately mansion that his friend Ted had inherited from his uncle, Thaddeus Kenworth. Dan parked his car on the driveway and Ted came out to greet him. As they walked into the home, Ted says "I'm glad you came, Dan. I've been wanting to have you up here for a long time, but I guess I never got around to it. Dan says "Hey, what do you do for space here? Suppose you have house full of guests and you've only got twenty rooms?" Ted says "Yeah, well don't worry. I won't have it long". Dan asks "What do you mean?" Ted says "Come on in here. It's the only room with chairs. I'm selling Fair Oaks, Dan". He says "You're kidding". Ted says "No, I wish I was. I can't keep this place up". Dan says "You're broke?" Ted says "I'm flatter than last week's pancake". Dan says "But I thought you inherited..." Ted says "The money from Uncle Thaddeus? No, not a thin dime". Dan says "Oh now, wait a minute, he had a thousand bucks for every breath he took". Ted says "Did he? I'm telling you, all he left me was this house". Dan says "Are you sure? It doesn't seem right. Wasn't he a millionaire?" Ted says "Uh-huh". Dan says "So, where's his money?" Ted says "It seems to be all gone".

Slate and Saylor are enjoying sitting in the empty bar at Shannon's Place listening to King Moses sing. Slate says "How do you like that? We have a new neon sign with the biggest arrow in Havana, and no customers. King, go out make sure that arrow is pointed in the right direction". Saylor says "You better do it King, we're too close to the harbor to take chances. There'd be a lot of wet tourists if you...." Hearing footsteps, King says "Here comes a dry one". Slate says "Yeah, looks warm too". A lady walks up to them and says "I'm looking for Mr. Shannon". Slate says "I'm Slate Shannon, Miss uh...." She says "Mrs. Alice Ramsey. I've heard you have a boat for hire". Slate says "That's right, with me in it". Saylor says "I'm the cabin boy". Alice says "I'll give you 200 dollars to take us to Zapata swamps. My husband owns a tobacco plantation there. There'll be my husband, me, and Dr. Lynn Barton". Slate says "It sounds all right, doesn't it, Saylor?" She says "I don't know. Mrs. Ramsey looks like she hasn't finished talking yet". Alice says "There's only one thing more to say. My husband always wished to be buried on a hammock in Zapata". Saylor says "See, I told you to listen, Slate". Alice says "My husband's in a coffin. My husband's dead". Later, as Alice is returning to her hotel room, Lynn asks "Is that you, Alice?" She says "Yes. What are you doing in our room?" Lynn says "Your husband invited me. He got lonely waiting for you. He asked me to play cribbage with him, and I did". Alice says "His favorite game. A game for the old. Where is he?" Lynn says "Asleep in the next room. It was too much for him, the game, and being without you. He tires easily these days, doesn't he?" Alice says "That's a wife's observation, not a doctor's". Lynn says "You always refresh my reasons for adoring you. The way you keep calling me doctor when you know I was branded for malpractice". Alice says "Well, everything's arranged with Mr. Shannon, but I made a condition, though". Lynn asks "What was it?" Alice says "That my husband would be dead. There is a knife in the desk drawer. Lynn, would you get it for me, please?"

Saturday Apr 11, 2026

Dr. Alexander Kieran is making a speech to the city of Yorkport. He says "Mr. Mayor and the members of the City Council, forty percent of last year's budget was spent on law enforcement and social agencies for the prevention and control of crime. My new discovery has made that unnecessary. I tell you that I can wipe out crime tomorrow". A council member says "That's ridiculous". Dr. Kieran says "Mr. Mayor, let me defend myself". The Mayor says "Go ahead, doctor, but make it fast". Dr. Kieran says "Five years ago, I started experimenting in my laboratory at the university with a new group of tranquilizers. One in particular seemed promising. I called it "Benefactrol". After the usual laboratory and animal tests, I performed some carefully controlled human experiments. The results were remarkable. Benefactrol immediately controlled and destroyed every antisocial impulse, every tendency towards crime for a period of forty eight hours. The council member says "I don't believe it". Kieran says "Gentlemen, it's true. Crime could be wiped out completely by adding benefactrol in minute quantities to the city water supply. Anyone who drinks city water will instantly be free of criminal tendencies for two whole days". The Mayor says "You"ll have to prove it, doctor". Kieran says "I will accept that challenge. Guard, bring him the prisoner. This is George, an inmate of Chester City Jail. He's had five arrests, four convictions, all crimes of violence". George is escorted into the courtroom, against his will, and making threats. Kieran says "Hello, George. I'm Dr. Alexander Kieran". George says "So what?" Kieran says "All I want you to do is drink one glass of water". George says "What's in it?" Kieran says "Nothing that will hurt you". George says "Five bucks and you got yourself a deal". Kieran says "Alright, here's five bucks". George drinks it, and says "It tastes okay" In a few seconds, George says "That's good. Anything else I can do for you, doc?" Kieran says "No, that's all". George says "Here, doc, take your five dollars back. I didn't really earn it. I'd feel funny taking it. It would be like stealing".

When Sam regained his consciousness, he found himself sitting in the front seat of a car being driven on a coastal highway. The driver says "Well hello, you feeling better?" Sam says "My head, it hurts". The driver says "Yeah, I guess it will for a while". Sam says "There's a lump on my head". The driver says "Well, I guess there would be. Hey, I'm sorry little fellow". Sam says "My hands, they're tied. My feet are too". The driver says "Yeah, they sure are. I tied them". Sam asks "But, why?" The driver says "Well, I didn't want to get rough again. You're such a little guy". Sam says "I don't even know you". The driver says "Well, I don't know you". Sam asks "Who are you?" He says "Oh, you just call me Casey. My last name ... well, it don't matter". Sam says "Casey. I don't know anybody by that name". Casey says "Oh now, we could have a nice trip out. This is a beautiful drive. You see out there? We're driving right along next to the ocean". Sam asks "Where are you taking me?" Casey says "Oh it's not far, now don't start acting up. I want this to be a pleasant trip. I like company". Sam says "Sure, but my hands, they hurt. Couldn't you just loosen the rope a little?" Casey says "I don't think I should. Now, you might try something and then, well I don't think I'd better". Sam says "I don't have any money, you know". Casey says "Now, you don't think I'm a thief, do you?" Sam says "I just can't figure it out, that's all". Casey says "Well, never you mind, you just lean back and enjoy yourself. See, that ocean is big, look at it. Look at all those waves. They never stop. They just keep flapping". Sam says "Casey, you got a cigarette? Casey says "Well, sure thing. I'll even light it for you". Casey gives him the lit cigarette, and Sam says "Thanks". Casey says "Oh, that's all right. I just want to be your friend, well, that is if you'll let me". Sam says "Sure, we'll be friends". Casey says "Just no rough stuff". Sam says "No rough stuff. Gee, this cigarette tastes good". Casey says "Hey, uh, your name is Sam, ain't it?" Sam says "Yeah, why?" Casey says "Well, I just wanted to make sure I got the right guy".

I Was a Communist for the FBI - The Rat Race
Thursday Apr 09, 2026
Thursday Apr 09, 2026
In a small, smoky room in downtown Detroit, Matt Cvetic and a handful of nervous men gathered for a communist cell meeting. Like all the other meetings Matt had attended, there was an atmosphere of tension and fear in the room. As the men were waiting for their cell leader, Comrade Greco to appear, Matt was conversing with Gorgy Tamashovina, a pudgy, mustached comrade, who was saying that his wife was not happy with him attending tonight's meeting, because her cousin was visiting them. Gorgy says "I told her that, with me, the party comes first". Matt says "You should bring your wife into the party too, Comrade Gorgy". He says "Comrade Matt, no one, not even Comrade Stalin, himself, could get my wife to go somewhere she does not want to go". Just then, Comrade Greco starts the meeting. He says "Comrade Cvetic, remain at the meeting. I have something special for you". Matt says "Yes, comrade". Greco says "Before we take up the business at hand, Comrade Gorgy, are you aware of the way your wife speaks regarding the party?" Gorgy says "Oh yes, comrade, she says too much sometime". Greco says "You must convert her to the party immediately or get rid of her". Gorgy says "Yes, comrade". Greco says "Very well, let's proceed with the meeting". Later, after the meeting had ended, Matt noticed that Greco was both nervous and excited about something. He says "Comrade Cvetic, go immediately to the Hotel Standish and ask for the key to Room 117. It has been reserved for you". Matt says "Yes, comrade". Greco says "You ask no questions. That is good. Stay in the room, awake. Make no phone calls, not even to the front desk". Matt says "I understand, comrade". Greco says "Comrade, you're a good man to work with". One his way to the hotel, Matt makes a quick call to his FBI handlers. He tells them to quickly place some microphones in Room 117 at the Hotel Standish, and that something big is happening.

Boston Blackie - The Crooked Carver Brother
Thursday Apr 09, 2026
Thursday Apr 09, 2026
The Carver family, Donald, his brother Kenneth, and their mother are eating breakfast at their home. Mrs. Carver says "Donald, what's the matter with your appetite?" Donald says "Nothing's the matter with my appetite, Mom. Ask me what's the matter with the stuff you cooked". Kenneth says "If you don't like what Mom cooked, don't eat it. Don't make any remarks about it either". Donald says "Why don't you shut up". Mrs. Carver says "Donald, don't talk that way to your brother. Kenneth isn't making any trouble". Donald says "He isn't making any pleasant around here either". Mrs. Carver says "Maybe you better leave the table, Donald". He says "I might as well". Kenneth says "Don't let him upset you, Mom. He's just in one of his moods this morning". Mrs. Carver says "He's always in one of his moods". Donald says "I don't know why I put up with you two". Mrs. Carver says "You put up with us? Well, I don't know how we put up with you. You refuse to work, you won't help me around the house, you won't do a thing, and your brother supports you". Donald says "It's a good setup isn't it, Mother? Or do you want me to move out and do things my way?" Mrs. Carver says "Maybe that wouldn't be so bad. Maybe I ought to let you". Donald says "You won't. You'll do anything to keep me out of trouble. By the way, I need ten dollars for this afternoon". Mrs. Carver says "I won't give it to you". Donald says "Alright, then I'll ...." Kenneth says "Better give it to him, Mom. He'll just go out and try to steal it if you don't". Donald says "Thanks brother. You're almost a good guy, sometimes". Mrs. Carver says "You ought to be ashamed to take money from me, Donald. It's Kenneth's money. He works for it and all you do is spend it". Donald says "That's the way it's supposed to be. He makes it, I spend it. Where's the ten dollars, Mom?" She says "I'll get it for you, but believe me, this is going to stop one of these days". Donald says "When it stops, I'll start. That's simple isn't it? Keep me happy, and I keep out of trouble". Mrs. Carver says "Maybe I ought to let you go. You'll end up in just one place, the electric chair, and maybe that's a good idea".

Dragnet - The Big Dare
Wednesday Apr 08, 2026
Wednesday Apr 08, 2026
It was Wednesday, September 29th. Detective Sergeants Joe Friday and Ben Romero are working the night watch out of Homicide Detail. Friday was on his way back from the interrogation room. It was 11:23 PM when he got to Room 42 Homicide. There, he sees Romero, who asks him "Did they bring Palmer in yet?" Friday says "He's in the interrogation room. The Captain's with him". Romero asks "What's his story?" Friday says "He claims he had nothing to do with it. Have you contacted any of the boys' relatives?" Romero says "He hasn't got any in town. It was just him and his mother". Friday asks "You called Juvenile Hall, didn't you?" Romero says "Yeah, they'll look after him for the time being. Pretty big shock for a kid". Friday says "Yeah. Did you get anything out of him?" Romero says "Harry and I have been talking to him. He's just starting to make sense. You want to lend a hand?" Friday says "Sure". He walks into the room where Robert Palmer is being questioned about the stabbing death of his mother. Robert says "We were going to the beach tomorrow, my mother and I. She had the day off and we were going to the beach. That's all I know". Friday says "Alright, Robert. Come on, son. It's going to be all right now. We need your help, Robert. I think you could answer a few questions for us". Robert looks at Friday and says "You're the cop that drove me down here, aren't you?". Friday says "That's right". Robert says "I'm not going back to the house". Friday says "You won't have to, son". Robert says "I'm never going back to that place. It was awful". Friday says "Could you start from the beginning for us, Bob, and just take it easy? Tell us what you know". Robert says "Well, all I know is I left the house about half past seven. Mom gave me the money to go to a show". Friday asks "Was she alone in the house when you left?" Robert says "Yes, that's right". Romero asks "What time did the movie let out?" Robert says "About 11 o'clock. It was pretty late for a school night, so I went straight home. Then, I found Mom was in the bedroom. She was on the floor. There was this knife, this big knife".

Randy Stone, reporter for the Chicago Star newspaper, stops at the local Police Precinct to see if there were any late developments regarding the two escaped prisoners, Gus Reed and Neil Ramsey. The police told him that there might be some news later, so Randy steps out for a cup of coffee and a sandwich at a nearby delicatessen named Harpoon Louie's. As he walks in, the deli owner, Lou, says "Oh Hello, Mr. Stone. It's been a few nights since I've seen you. Been working hard?" Randy says "Well, I've been on the jump lately. What's good tonight?" Lou, says "Got a fresh baked ham tonight". Randy says "That's a deal. I'll have it on rye bread with a cup of coffee". Just then, a thirteen year old boy walks in wearing a Halloween-type alien mask. Randy says 'Well, look at what just walked in, the man from Mars. What happened, your flying saucer break down?" Lou says "Well, goodness, you're a big boy to be wearing a Halloween mask". The kid says "Shut up". Randy says "What's the big idea?" The kid says "What's it look like? This is a stickup!" The kid in the mask looked very amusing, but he 38 caliber gun he held in his hand did not. The kid says "Open the cash register. Let's have it, quick". Lou says "Well, all right". Randy says "Easy with that gun, kid". He says "Shut up and empty your pockets. You, behind the counter, lay the money on the showcase". Lou says "It isn't worth it, you know, son". As the kid steps forward, with his eyes on the money, Randy lunged at him. The kid whirled around as Randy's fist smashed against his wrist. The gun hit the floor. As Randy grabs the kid's mask, he trips and hits his head on the radiator. The next thing Randy remembers is Lou and two police officers standing over him. An officer says "He's coming around. How's your head, Stone?" Randy says "It feels like a sagging circus tent". Lou says "Here, let me help you up". Randy says "Thanks, I can manage". An officer gives Randy a piece of paper and says "Look at this description of the kid that Lou gave us". Randy says "Yeah, this looks right". Lou says "Why do you think a child would do a thing like that?"

Agatha Christie - The Unexpected Guest
Tuesday Apr 07, 2026
Tuesday Apr 07, 2026
After having a car accident, a stranger walks toward an elegant older home, in hopes of being able to summon help. Crossing the lawn, he sees that the house is in total darkness. He approaches a set of French windows and peers inside. Unable to discern any movement, he knocks on the window. Getting no response, he tries the handle and finds it open. Cautiously walking inside, he says "Hello? Is anyone here?" Seeing a middle-aged man sitting in a chair, the stranger says "Oh, I'm sorry. It's this confounded fog. I've just run my car off the road into a ditch. I haven't the faintest idea where I am. I must have run off the main road somewhere. I've been driving around for an hour or more. Are you asleep?" He walks closer to the middle aged man and says "Good God. He's dead". A woman standing nearby says "Yes". Startled, the stranger says "You know?" The woman says "Yes". He says "This man has been shot, through the head. Who?" After pausing for a few seconds, the stranger says "You shot him?" The woman says "Yes. The telephone is on the desk". The stranger says "Telephone?" The woman says "If you want to ring up the police". He says "Well, a few minutes one way or the other won't make any difference. They'll have a bit of a job getting here in this fog, anyway. I'd like to know a little more. Who is he?" She says "My husband. His name is ... was Richard Warrick. I'm Laura Warrick. Hadn't you better ring the police?" He says "All in good time. Nothing wrong with having a cozy little chat first, is it?" She asks "Who are you? How did you happen to come here tonight?" He says "My name is Michael Starkweather. I'm an engineer. My mother's family came from this part of the world. I thought I might buy a little house. For the last two hours, I've been hopelessly lost driving around all the twisted lanes in South Wales. Ended up in a ditch. Thick fog everywhere. I found your gate and groped my way to this house. Tried the handle of the window. It wasn't locked. So I walked in. Whereupon, I find...." She says "the door opens and the unexpected guest comes in".

Dangerous Assignment - Recover Stolen Dynamite
Monday Apr 06, 2026
Monday Apr 06, 2026
Agent Steve Mitchell walks into the Commissioner's office and says "Good morning, Commissioner, Ruth left a note on my desk that said you wanted to see me. Incidentally where is she?" Commissioner says "Down at the Red Cross donating some blood. I gave her the day off". Steve says "I've got a date for the same thing". Commissioner says "Every American should donate blood to the Red Cross, but right now, take a look at this". Steve says "A piece of string?" Commissioner says "Describe it to me as accurately as you can". Steve says "Okay, it's about a foot long". Commissioner says "Eleven inches to be exact". Steve says "Okay, eleven inches. It's got four knots, and they're unevenly spaced. That's about all I can see. So, you're a string saver, Commissioner. Is that what you called me in here to tell me?" Commissioner says "Not exactly. In the first place, I have a hunch that's about the most important piece of string in the world right now. In the second place, it's not mine. It belongs to Jim Slater". Steve says "Oh, is Jim back? That's good". The Commissioner says "Jim's dead, Steve. He was murdered in Panama the night before last. He was one of your best friends, Steve, that's why I figured you'd want to take over his assignment". Steve says "Yeah, I do, but I never knew what Jim was working on. He just dropped out of sight about a month ago". Commissioner says "Very few people did know about his assignment, Steve. I sent him to Panama a month ago". Steve says "Panama? What's going on down there?" Commissioner says "Plenty, I'm afraid. Jim Slater was down there investigating a series of thefts that have been going on for the last six months. Civilian construction camps and army engineer stations have been systematically burglarized". Steve says "Look, isn't that a matter for the national police in Panama?" Commissioner says "What's been stolen makes it strictly our business". Steve says "Oh, well, what exactly has been stolen?" Commissioner says "Dynamite, and It looks like he was on the trail of something, Steve".

Walking along the street, he's still behind her at 78th Street. By 81st Street, Doris gets a little frightened at the game and stops dead in her tracks, whereupon her shadow almost topples over her. He says "Oh, I'm terribly sorry, lady. I should have looked where I was going". Doris says "That's the trouble, you did". He says "How's that?" Doris says "You've been following me for the last hour. Listen, Mister, I don't know what your game is". He says "I'm sightseeing". Doris says "Well, do it elsewhere or I'll call the police". The man says "You don't really mean that, do you baby?" Doris, seeing a police officer standing nearby, calls for him. The man says "I guess you do". The Police Officer asks "You want me, lady?" Doris says "Yes, please". The man says "I guess that's my cue to beat it. Been nice knowing you, honey. We must do this more often". She watches the man walk away, then continues going down the street. Soon, she finds a phone booth and stops to make a call. The voice on the line says "Hello?" Doris asks "Is that you, Stuart?" He says "Yeah Doris". She says "I got to see you". Stuart asks "Why? What's the trouble?" Doris says "Well, I just had a funny experience. I thought a man was following me". Stuart asks "Was he?" Doris says "Well, he might have been only trying to pick me up, at least that's what he claimed". Stuart says "Don't worry about it, Doris. You come on over. Alright, honey?" Doris says "I'll be there in about twenty minutes. Okay, bye". As she hangs up the phone, a man waiting outside the booth asks "You through with the phone, lady?" She turns around to see the same man that was following her earlier. He says "Oh, hi beautiful, imagine bumping into you here. It certainly is a small world".

Tales of the Texas Rangers - Hanging by a Thread
Sunday Apr 05, 2026
Sunday Apr 05, 2026
At 9:15 on the morning of May 5th, the telephone rings in the sheriff's office in the little town of Finney, Texas. Sheriff Hansen answers "Sheriff's office, Hansen speaking". The voice on the line says "Sheriff, this is George Hawks". Hansen says "How are you, George? What can I do for you?" George says "Nothing now. Nobody can". Hansen says "How's that?" George says "I just called to tell you I'm going to kill myself". Hansen asks "What did you say?" George says "You heard me. It'll take you twenty minutes to get out to my place. By that time, I'll be dead". Hansen says "Now, now wait a minute, George". Hansen then hears the phone being hung up. He calls the operator, and says "This is the Sheriff. That call that just came in here. Where was it from?" The operator says "One moment, Sheriff". After a few seconds, the operator says "That call was placed from 317 out on Gum Creek Road, the residence of Mr. George Hawk". Hansen says "Thank you", and hangs up. He races out to the Hawks Ranch, to find George Hawks dead, hanging in the barn. At the scene, Hansen makes another discovery which prompted him to put in a call to the Texas Rangers. Ranger Jace Pearson was assigned to the case and drove to the Hawks Ranch to meet Sheriff Hansen. He says "Jace, am I glad to see you". Jace says "Howdy, Sheriff. It's been a long time". Hansen says "I hope I didn't call you down here for nothing, Jace, but this looks mighty fishy to me. So, I want you to take a look at the body". Jace says "Hasn't been taken down yet?" Hansen says "No, I put in a call to the coroner, but he was out somewhere. I left a message for him to come out here as soon as they could locate him". Jace asks "How'd you find out about the body, Sheriff?" He says "I got a phone call, Jace, about 9:15. He said he was George Hawks and was going to kill himself. So I drove out fast as I could, but George was dead, hanging by the neck in the barn". Jace says "Sheriff, I know you didn't call me down here to investigate a routine suicide. What's the catch?" Hansen says "Come out to the barn. I need to show you something I noticed".

Michael Shayne, Private Detective - Meet Me at Oakland Depot
Sunday Apr 05, 2026
Sunday Apr 05, 2026
It's a bright and sunny San Francisco afternoon. Mike Shayne, and his assistant Phyllis Knight, have closed their office and gone over the bay to the Oakland Railroad Terminal. At the the depot, Phyllis looks at her wristwatch and says "It's twenty minutes past three o'clock. Mike, do you realize that train is five whole hours late?" Mike says "Yeah, this makes our third trip across the bay to meet it". Finally, when the train arrives and the passengers start disembarking, Phyllis says "Hey, I'd still like to know why we had to come clear over here to the train to welcome Mr. Frank Hewitt Newton back to his own town". Mike says "We'll know what a minute, angel. A fifteen word telegram can't say much more than meet me at the depot, Pioneer Limited". Phyllis says "Plus that little business about a package he's sending you, Air Express". Mike says "If something's wrong, I guess he wants fast action on it. Hey, there he is, right ahead of us, with those two men are that redheaded gal". Mike says loudly "Glad to see you, Mr. Newton .... Mr. Newton, hey, it's me, Mike Shayne". Phyllis says "Mr. Newton!" Mike says "He just looked right through us". Phyllis says "Or maybe he didn't hear us". Mike says "Come on. We'll catch him at the taxi stand". As they make their way through the crowd, Mike says "There he is, getting into that sedan with the others. Mr. Newton, Mr. Newton!". Phyllis says "Save your lungs, Mike. He's gone. Three trips across the bay to gladhand a guy and he gives you the glassy stare". Mike says "Yeah, let's head back to the office. I want to make some phone calls". Later, at the office, Mike calls the Newton residence. He says "Hello, is Mr. Newton in? ... No, he got back a half an hour ago. He wired me to meet up with at the Oakland Depot, but something went wrong ... Oh, you're Mrs. Newton? ... yes that's right, Mike Shayne, the detective ... I don't know, I got his telegram telling me to meet him at the train station ... If I knew, I'd tell you, Mrs. Newton. Have him phone me. Thanks, goodbye". Phyllis says "Oh, so he didn't tell her he was arriving home today?". Mike says "She thought he was still in Chicago".

Here, the names and such, I jotted on this paper". Danny says "I need a squad car, Gino". He says "It's waiting for you downstairs. Muggerman's with it". Danny asks "Who'd you say was doing all this threatening?" Tartaglia says "A man by the name of Blaine. First name is, let's see, David". Danny makes his way to the car. Soon, he and Muggerman are at the address. Muggerman asks "Who did you say was doing all this threatening?" Danny says "A man by the name of Blaine, first name, David". Suddenly, they hear a shot! Danny is loudly knocking on the apartment entrance. He says "Try the buzzer, Muggerman". A lady lets them in and says "He did it! Miss Carroll said he was going to do it, and he did!" Danny says "We're from the police". The lady says "It happened up there on the fourth floor. Mr. Blaine, it happened just now, not more than...." Danny asks "Who's that crying?" The lady says "That's her. Miss Carroll. See her? She's hugging the banister up on the third floor landing. And that's Mr. Fallon at the rail on the second floor". Danny says "Let's go, Muggerman". They race up to the fourth floor apartment to find Mr. Blaine dead. Muggerman says "The gun's here, Danny, by his chair. It looks brand new". Danny says "Looks like Mr. Blaine had his choice". Muggerman says "Uh-huh. It's quite a gun collection, from derringers on up". Danny says "Those people will be passing the landing, that boy on the second floor, Mr. Fallon, and Miss Carroll on the third. I'll want to talk to them". Muggerman says "Miss Carroll's still crying, Danny. You hear her? That poor woman".

Nick Carter, Master Detective - The Case of the Unwritten Letter
Friday Apr 03, 2026
Friday Apr 03, 2026
Breakfast is over in the old brownstone mansion at the corner of Fifth and Fourth Streets. Nick and Patsy are on their way into the master detective study to begin the morning's work, when suddenly the telephone rings. Patsy says "Oh bother. I might have known there wouldn't be any peace today just when we need it". She answers the phone and says "Nick Carter's office". The voice on the line says "Miss Bowen, this is Sergeant Matheson". Patsy says "I hope this is a social call, Sergeant. We've got a whole morning's work ahead of us". Matheson says "Ask Nick if he'd like to be interrupted". Patsy says "Nick, Sergeant Matheson wants to know if you'd like to have your work interrupted". Nick says "Ask him for what?" Patsy says "For what, Sergeant? I don't think Nick will settle for anything less than murder". Matheson says "Ask him how we'd like to be haunted this morning". Patsy says "Haunted?" Nick says "Haunted sounds interesting, let's have the phone, Patsy". Nick says "Hello, Matty, what's all this about haunts?" Matheson says "Some dame called up this morning from an old loft building down in the village, 23 Blaine Street. She claims she's being haunted. Not at night mind you, but during the day". Nick says "Uh huh, daytime ghost. That's a new one". Matheson says "Yeah, she claims they rumble at her all day long. I'm just on my way down there. You want to come along for spooks that rumble by day?" Nick says "You bet. Meet you in front of the building in twenty minutes" Nick hangs up the phone, and says "Get your hat, Patsy, and put in a call for the car. You and I have a date with a ghost". A few minutes later, Nick and Patsy are in the car arriving at the scene. Nick says "This is it, Patsy, 23 Blaine Street". Patsy says "What an ancient building this is". As they are getting out of the car, they see Sergeant Matheson arriving at the same time. As they are going to the door, Nick asks "Who was it that called you, Matty?" He says "Some dame called Madame Seer. There's her name on the nameplate". Nick says "The front door is locked". Suddenly, two shots are heard from inside the house!

Walk Softly, Peter Troy - A Patsy Named Patsy
Thursday Apr 02, 2026
Thursday Apr 02, 2026
One morning, Peter noticed on his date pad that a Miss Patsy Doyle had an appointment to see him. His secretary, and girlfriend, Julie, had gotten up on the wrong side of the bed that morning and was using the occasion to let Peter know about it. Julie says "She is bound to be one of your beautiful dolls, as you call them, and I'm giving you notice here and now that I am sick of it". Peter says "Oh, you're sick, I'll grant you that, honey. I'm scarcely in the office and you start giving me ...." Julie says "She'll be here any minute and I'm warning you, if she starts looking down her nose at me and trying to make a date with you I do not intend to take it lying down". Peter says "Well no, it would be better if you didn't roll around on the floor. A little gnashing of teeth, and a certain amount of foaming at the mouth, these things I can take, but ...." Julie says "You stop trying to be funny and listen to me, Pete. If you ...." Just then, someone is knocking at the door. Julie says "That'll be your Miss Patsy Doyle. You just remember what I said". Peter says "As if I could forget". Julie greets Patsy and brings her into the reception area. Julie says "Mr Troy, this is Miss Doyle". Patsy says "How do you do, Mr. Troy. I hope you're the clever man I've heard you are". Peter says "You're Miss Patsy Doyle, huh? Well, what do you know". Patsy asks "What do I know about what?" Peter says "Well, I didn't mean that as a question". Patsy says "What did you say it for? It sounded like a question to me". Peter says "Oh yeah, well let's just leave it at that, huh?" Julie says "Won't you sit down Miss Doyle? Or do you want to go into your office, Mr. Troy?" Peter says "Oh, no. No, no. This will do fine, Julie". Patsy says "I will sit down, thank you". Julie says "Now, why would an obviously intelligent, smart young woman like you needs the services of a private investigator?" Patsy says "Oh that, it's in trouble I am. I was in a gentleman's apartment last night and there was a man at the window with a camera. He took a picture of me with the gentleman. Most upsetting it was. There I was, in a dressing gown, and him such a nice gentleman".

Mr. and Mrs. North - Too Late to Die
Thursday Apr 02, 2026
Thursday Apr 02, 2026
A man sits at a microphone in a radio studio in midtown Manhattan. His name is Clint Conroy, and his voice is being heard in thousands of homes throughout New York, including in Mr. and Mrs. North's apartment. On the air, Clint says "And now, ladies and gentlemen, I want to wind up tonight's broadcast with another open letter to Wally Clark. I hope you're listening, Wally, wherever you are. I hope you're listening hard. Dave Largo is in town. You know Largo, and you know why Vic Bailey of the Syndicate brought him in from Chicago. That's how badly Vic Bailey wants you. He's brought in the number one gun of the Syndicate to get you". Meanwhile, in a cheap hotel in Chelsea Square, Wally Clark is listening to the broadcast. Clint continues by saying "You can't go on hiding forever, Wally. If Vic Bailey and Dave Largo don't get you, the police will. So listen to me, Wally. Give yourself up. Go to the district attorney. Tell him all you know about Bailey's financial setup. Give him the records you took from Bailey's office. Listen, Wally, the district attorney will protect you. Play it smart, Wally. Get Vic Bailey before he gets you!" Wally slams his radio and says "Shut up! That guy, why can't he leave me alone? Why does he have to keep after me? Every night for a month, all he's done is..." Wally notices his wife and says "Oh, I'm sorry, Nora. I shouldn't have blown my top like that". She says "No, and you shouldn't drink anymore, please, Wally" He says "Oh, okay. Where's the cigarettes?" Nora says "On the dresser. Wally, Clint Conroy's trying to help you". Wally says "Help me?" Nora says "Well, he is. Darling, he's right. We can't go on hiding forever, living like this. Me in this room and you sneaking around town like a hunted animal. Do you realize that tonight's the first time I've seen you in a week?" Wally says "I know. I can't come around because...." Nora says "Because, why?" Wally says "Look, honey, I don't want to frighten you, but, you're going to have to move out of here". Nora asks "Why, Wally?" He says "I think that dame from the hotel switchboard recognizes me from my picture in the paper the other day".

Counterspy - The Bouncing Bank Robber
Wednesday Apr 01, 2026
Wednesday Apr 01, 2026
In a building on the north side, just before 3:00 o'clock in the afternoon, David Harding, Chief of the Counterspies, is completing a routine field office investigation. In another building on the outskirts of the city, the Merchants Federal Bank and Loan Association is preparing to close. There are a few customers were at the teller's window. Then, two men, Brace Hondo and his partner, Gus, enter quietly from the street, stop, and look around. Brace says "You stay back, Gus, and cover those goons behind the railed-in space. I'll take the cashier". Gus says "Okay". Brace walks up to the counter and the cashier says "Yes, can I help you, sir?" Brace says "Yeah, sure, take this briefcase". The cashier asks "Why?" Brace says "This is a stickup. Start shoving the money into that case fast and quiet, and nobody will get hurt". Cashier says "Yes, sure". Brace says "Come on, faster...." At that moment, the cashier activates the alarm. Brace says "Bring the burglar alarm, will you? Okay, hero. Take this...." Brace shoots the cashier and yells "Alright, everybody back against the wall! No tricks!" Gus yells "Brace, the doors! The metal doors are sliding shut!" As Gus, is trying to get the doors open, Brace says "Cut that out. Can't knock these doors down". Gus says "The cops will be here! We got to get out! How do we do it?" Brace says "That plate glass window. We'll jump through. Follow me". Gus says "We'll get cut. I can't go through the window!" Brace says "Okay, stay here, but you won't be talking to no cops". Brace shoots Gus, then jumps through the glass window! He quickly gets to their running getaway car, and Peg says "Brace, I was just going to take off!" Brace says "Do it now. Fast!" Peg races down the street, and says "Look, there's a cop!" Brace says "Just drive. I'll take care of him", He then fires several shots out the window and says "Got him! Now, Peg, take the next corner!"

Whitehall 1212 - The Murder of Mr. Street
Wednesday Apr 01, 2026
Wednesday Apr 01, 2026
On the morning of January 11th, Chief Inspector Reginald Portner of Scotland Yard was handed a telegram which had been sent the night before from Southampton. The telegram read "A case of murder has occurred here. A man has been found shot in a room, the door of which was padlocked. The body was found today. It had probably been in the room some eight or nine weeks. Will you please send a man down to investigate the matter? Signed, McCormack, Chief Constable of Southampton". Portner traveled to Southampton, where he was met by a smart young detective sergeant, smelling of pier soap and hair oil. The Sergeant escorted Portner to the scene of the discovery. The Sergeant says "The place here was formerly a garage, sir, as I'm sure you can see". Portner says "Yes, I can see, Sergeant. Is this the one that was padlocked?" Sergeant says "Yes, sir. Oh, as a matter of fact, both this door and the one in the rear were padlocked. The rear one is still intact. This is the one that was broken". Portner asks "Is this the main entrance?" Sergeant says "Yes, sir". Portner says "The men who found him broke the lock?" Sergeant says "Yes, sir". Portner asks "Where are they?" Sergeant says "They should be inside, sir". The Sergeant and Portner go inside to find the two men who found the body. Portner asks "Where are they?" The Sergeant says "Mr. Remington, Mr. Pen?" Portner asks "Where did they go?" Sergeant says "Mr. Pen, are you here?" Pen says "Over here, Sergeant. We're over here, behind the oil drum". Portner walks up and says "Good morning, gentlemen. Where did you find him?" Pen says "Right down there, sir". Remington says "He was crumpled up against them oil drums. Dead, sir". Portner says "I can see the blood. That is blood, isn't it?" Pen says "I'm afraid so, sir. There's quite a lot of it, isn't there?" Sergeant says "Yes, sir. For one man". Portner asks "Find the gun?" Sergeant says "No, sir, not yet. We're starting to look again this morning". Portner says "I haven't been briefed on this case, yet. I don't even know his name". Pen says "His name was Brave Street, sir".

The Line-Up - The Frivolous Forger Fracas
Tuesday Mar 31, 2026
Tuesday Mar 31, 2026
Lieutenant Ben Guthrie is escorting Miss Larkin to the line-up viewing area. Miss Larkin says "I just hate things like this, really I do". Guthrie asks "Miss Larkin, have you ever been in a lineup before?" She says "I should say not, but I feel like such a fool, Lieutenant. How long will it take?" Guthrie says "That'll depend on in which line the suspect appears". Miss Larkin says "Well, Heavens, can't they put him in the first line or something?" Guthrie says "Well, maybe they will, but I want you to tell me". She says "Oh, is that disinfectant I smell? It is certainly strong. I'll be glad when this whole thing's over". Sergeant Grebb starts the procedure by saying "May I have your attention, please? Thank you. My name is Sergeant Matt Grebb". As the lineup proceeds, Miss Larkin picks out the fourth suspect, a man named Bart Florian, who had previously served time for forgery. She says "That's him, I think. I'm not sure, but I think so". Guthrie says "Hold number four, Sergeant". Miss Larkin says "I'm not exactly sure, but I think he's the one that gave me that bum check". Guthrie says "Well, we'll find out all right". As Miss Larkin and Guthrie leave the viewing area, they go into another office. She says "I thought I was all finished". Guthrie says "Well, you are, practically. We just need you to fill out a verification card. She asks "Is this about appearing in court?" Guthrie says "Yes, in case there a preliminary hearing, you'd be asked to appear before a magistrate and testify at the same time we present the complaint. However, chances are you won't be called. He'll probably wave his rights and plead guilty. Well, I want to thank you for coming down tonight, Miss Larkin. I knew you took time off from your work to do it and we certainly appreciate it". She says "Oh, it wasn't so bad. As a matter of fact, it was very interesting. Besides, I should have my head examined for letting that guy give me a bad check". Guthrie says "Well, don't feel too badly. A lot of people have been taken in just like you in the last three months. He's been passing bad checks all over town".

Laura Bromley is talking to the family attorney, Tom Riley, about her husband, Jerry Bromley. Laura says "That night after it happened, well, I knew the police would want to question me. I couldn't face them, Tom, not just then". Tom says "Of course you couldn't". Laura says "They'll want to know everything, won't they?" Tom says "I think it's best if they do, Laura". She says "Yes, I suppose it is. They'll have to know sometime". Just then, the telephone rings. Tom says "Oh excuse me". He answers and says "Yes?... The District Attorney? ... Alright, put him on .... Hello, Mr. Collier. I've been talking with my client Laura Bromley ... Yes, she's willing to make a statement ... You're not preparing any charges against her, are you? ... Oh, good. Well, we'll be over to your office at about three o'clock. Alright, goodbye". Tom hangs up the phone and says "Laura, before we draw up a formal statement, I'd like you to tell me, as your attorney, exactly what happened. The whole story from the beginning". Laura says "The whole thing seems to have been going on and on as long as I can remember". Tom says "Yes, I know". Laura says "You see, Jerry never got over being a playboy. It wasn't his fault, really. His family just had too much money. They were too good to him. Then, when he lost every dime his father left him... Tom says "That was shortly after you were married wasn't it, Laura?" She says "Just about a year. He didn't even tell me how badly off we were". Tom asks "What did you live on?" Laura says "Cards and horse races. He was pretty lucky at first". Tom says "You still thought he had an income?" Laura says "Maybe I did, maybe I didn't. I guess I was afraid to know the truth. He never intended to do anything crooked, Tom, but, he had to have money and excitement. He just didn't know how to live any other way. I don't know how we managed, going from one hotel to the next, borrowing money, and keeping a step ahead of our creditors. Then, we met Nick Gordon. After that, everything was different".

Jim Osborne left the same house at approximately the same hour, every working day for over 11 years. He caught the same trolley car, emerged at the same terminal, dodged the same traffic, rounded the same corner, and entered the same bank. Jim started at the bank as an assistant teller. Now, he is assistant manager, and today, he is training another assistant teller. As they walk down to the vault, the new teller says "I hate to put you to all this trouble, Mr. Osborne. I know how busy you are now". Jim says "Forget it. Now, there's one thing to remember. You can't get into this vault before 8:00 AM". The new teller says "Time lock, huh?" Jim says "Right, now this large safe here is for Mr. Bradley, the chief teller. Inside are six smaller safes, one for each assistant teller. Do you know your combination?" He says "Yes, sir". Jim says "Then you know more than I do". The new teller says "Oh, really?" Jim says "Yeah. I know only the first half of the combinations. Each teller knows only the last half of the combination of his own safe. That's yours to the left there. Go ahead and open it". The new teller says "That's all there is to it, huh? Well, here goes". When the new teller said "that's all there is to it", the thought that entered Jim's mind is that it would be a cinch to watch a teller and memorize his half of the combination. The new teller says "Well, I've got it open Mr. Osborne". Jim says "Now, you take your money tray to Mr. Bradley. He'll give you whatever you'll need for the day's business". The new teller says "Thanks again, Mr. Osborne". The idea of robbing the safes had occurred to Jim before. Often, in fact. It was an amusing thought to dwell on while shaving or riding to work. However, with that innocent remark by the new teller, the idea of taking the bank's money slowly began to take possession of Jim's mind. At noon, instead of lunch, Jim dropped by the local Office of the State Department and told the clerk that he was writing his Master's degree thesis on crime forensics relating to banks, and needed to know which countries had no extradition agreements with the U.S.

Let George Do It - The Marauder
Sunday Mar 29, 2026
Sunday Mar 29, 2026
George receives a letter that reads "Dear Mr. Valentine, my name is Ralph Saxon. I'm a writer, a very foolish writer, because like all of my breed, I've had a lifelong desire to spend a winter in the woods, to get away from the tensions and fears and neuroses of the city, to live simply with simple normal people. Well, here I am, a tiny deserted resort in the Lobo Range, and of course, it's all an illusion. I'm surrounded by more tension and fear than I ever knew before. And a friend of mine, the owner of the place, Hans Bjorkman, has become neurotic to the point of insanity, to the point where I can't control him, to the point where all he thinks of is the Marauder, the invader, the pirate and cutthroat of the animal kingdom. Mr. Valentine, this man is obsessed by the idea of murdering a mountain lion." George and Brooksie attempt to travel to the winter resort in George's car, but the roads are covered in ice, and they get stuck about five miles from their destination, so they have to walk the rest of the way in blizzard conditions. Finally arriving, they see a man on the front porch of the lodge. Brooksie says "If we can only get out of this wind". The man says "I got a big fire in the fireplace. Where'd you leave your car? George says "About five miles back, that hill beyond the Aspen Grove". Brooksie says "Yeah, the road was like glass. It was frozen practically solid". The man says "Here, we go. The front door is around this porch. I don't think your friend Saxon's back yet, been out communicating with nature. He's crazy like an Eskimo". George says "Hey, is your name Hans Bjorkman?" The man says "Me? Heck no. He's crazy too. Everybody is except me. I'm just peculiar. Everyone calls me Pinochle. Here, better wipe your feet". Suddenly, they hear something that sounds like a woman screaming in the distance! Brooksie says "Listen, George, it's a woman! Something's the matter with her!" Pinochle says "What's it sound like to you, city boy?" George says "Well, it doesn't sound like a baby crying. What was it? Cat?" Pinochle says "Yep, that's it. Cat, Puma, Cougar, Panther, Nuisance. Take your pick".

Two teenagers named Ray and Vinny are walking up to the front of a drugstore. Ray says "Alright, this is where he said to meet him, in front of this drugstore. What time you got?" Vinny says "A couple of minutes of". Ray says "Oh, he'll be here. Vinny, while I'm in the car with him you watch out for cops, understand?" Vinny says "Yeah, I'll watch out". Ray says "If they ever pick this guy up, he'd get ten years for what he's got in that car". Vinny says "No kidding?" Ray says "Maybe more. Listen, I was with Harry when he bought that 22 caliber pistol. The guy showed Harry a whole suitcase full of stuff". Vinny asks "You're not going to get a 22 are you, Ray?" He says "What do I look like?" Vinny says "I didn't think you would". Ray says "I'm going to get something that'll show Mr. Loudmouth where he gets off, once and for all". Vinny says "Harry?" Ray says "Yeah, Harry. Waving that 22 around like he's got a gun or something, telling everybody else what to do. I'm fed up with Harry". Vinny says "Me too". Ray says "Yeah, a lot of guys are". Vinny asks "Is that the car?" Ray says "Yeah, that's it. You stay here and keep your eyes open". Vinny says "Okay, Ray". The car stops and Ray walks over to it. The guy inside says "Hop in, kid". Ray gets in, and the guy says "Alright, now lets make it fast. What do you got in mind?" Ray says "I want to get an automatic 32 caliber or even better". The guy says "I've only got a couple of things tonight. Look in the bottom of the suitcase. You can handle them down there". Ray says "Oh, I don't have to. That's what I want, that one right there. That's a 45 caliber, isn't it?" The guy says "Yeah, brand new". Ray asks "How much?" The guy says "125 dollars". Ray says "125?" The guy says "You can have the 32 caliber for less. How much dough you got with you?" Ray says "50 bucks". The guy says "What are you wasting my time for, kid?" Ray says "Harry only paid 50 bucks". The guy says "Beat it, sonny, I got more calls tonight". Ray says "I want that gun. If I can get the 125 dollars ...." The guy says "When you get it, call me".

Escape - The Boiling Sea
Saturday Mar 28, 2026
Saturday Mar 28, 2026
By the spring of 1945, the war was almost over. First Mate McAllen is aboard the Hope By Victory ship hauling cargo to the landing zone in the Philippines. For this trip, the ship was diverted to the tiny island of Kasiruta in the Moluccas to pick up a detachment of Rangers, a demolition team, and bring them to Samar. After dark on the first day, McAllen went on deck and met Lieutenant Drury, the Ranger Commanding Officer and his top Sergeant watching Mount Gamkonora, an active volcano over on Halmahera Island. Drury says "Hi McAllen". He says "Evening mate". Drury says "Quite a sight, isn't it?" McAllen says "It sure is, but it'll get better. We pass closer to it off Leyte. In the dark you can see the lava spouting like Fourth of July". Drury says "We got a look at a small one on Kasiruta, inactive. A whole group of islands on both sides of the straight is volcanic, they tell me". McAllen says "That's right". The Sergeant says "You can have my share of them. That big baby there used to keep us up nights, rumbling". Drury says "They're not exactly conducive to peace of mind, I'll admit, Sergeant, but they're very interesting. I'd like a chance to study one more closely". Sergeant says "Not for me, Lieutenant". Drury says "Well, we probably won't get another chance now. Are the men all comfortable, Sergeant?" He says "Well, it ain't the Queen Mary, sir, but they're okay". McAllen says "Sorry. This baby wasn't meant for troop transport". Drury says "It don't matter, we're used to improvising". McAllen says "Well, good night, gentlemen", and heads toward his quarters. He had difficulty sleeping that night, so he got a cup of coffee and brought one to Captain Hannigan on the bridge. A little while later, after the captain went to his quarters, a seaman on the bridge asks McAllen "Do you smell anything, sir?" He says "Yes, sulfur and something that smells like wet dust". At that moment, Brian calls from the engine room and says "I just noticed my intake water is heating up. It's supposed to be about 25 degrees centigrade around here. It is 29 degrees, now. We're pulling sludge too. It looks like pumice".

Casey, Crime Photographer - The Life of the Party
Friday Mar 27, 2026
Friday Mar 27, 2026
One of the most interesting sections of the city is known as Whitaker Grange, with its winding streets and century-old houses where artists have established a colony. The more successful artist's live and work in a narrow, dead-end alley called Gedney's Close. Late afternoon, a familiar, battered-looking automobile pulls up near the entrance of Gedney's Close and stops. Casey says "I guess I have to park here, Annie. They don't let you drive into this alley". Anne Williams, Casey's girlfriend, says "Well, I'd prefer to walk the rest of the way, Casey. I love to look at these old houses". Casey says "You do, huh? Well, I got my camera and stuff. Come on, let's go. Higgins Studio is that big stone barn at the dead end there". Anne says "I'm going to get a big thrill out of seeing his studio in medium again. I think Andre Higgins is our greatest living sculptor". Casey says "Well, he was. He hasn't been producing top quality lately, though. The art critics say this new bronze group that you're going to interview him about is only run of the mill". Ann says "I know. He's too busy playing to really work, I guess". Casey says "Yeah. It's a sweet-scented crowd he plays around with, too". Anne says "I've never met any of them except his model, Marcel. I don't know how a cultured, mature man like Andre Higgins can stand having her around, let alone be in love with her, as he apparently is". Casey says "Well, at least she's not dangerous. I can't say that for one of Andre's other pals". Anne asks "Who?" Casey says "Blister Hogan. They are seen together a lot". Anne says "Oh Casey, Blister Hogan's suspected of a couple of murders. The cops have been trying to nail him for years. How can Higgins associate with a man like that?" Casey says "I don't know. He's a strange guy. Uh-oh, look at that guy. He just came out of Higgins' place. Anne says "Casey, he must be headed for a costume party". Casey says "Yeah, he has green pants, a yellow shirt, and a red beret". Casey stops and says "Annie!" She says "What is he doing with that big knife?" Casey says "He just stabbed himself, Annie!"

Mr. Chameleon - The Case of the Dead Woman's Eyes
Thursday Mar 26, 2026
Thursday Mar 26, 2026
In the ornate drawing room of the Walters Mansion, the room is cool, despite the summer heat. Mrs. Walters, a middle-aged patrician, is speaking to the person sitting across from her. She says "I can't believe that you of all people would do this to me. My husband trusted you and so did I. Now, I find that you've been stealing from me. Don't deny it, you've been stealing. Oh, really this ... this makes me ill. Where are those soda mint tablets? The ones you gave me the other day. Oh, there on the mantle. Give them to me, please. Thank you. They always help". After taking one of the mints, Mrs. Walters says "That's strange, they suddenly taste so bitter. What have you given me? What have you given me? Wait, help me ... help me!" Mrs. Walters falls to the floor! Mrs. Newel, the housekeeper, hears Mrs. Walters cry out, and comes in to help. She says "Mrs. Walters! Mrs. Walters! Answer me!" Phyllis Walters comes into the room and says "Mrs. Newel, what's the matter? What is it?" Mrs. Newel says "Oh, Miss Phyllis, don't look. Please don't look at her. I'm afraid your mother is dead!" Later, at Central Headquarters, Mr. Chameleon walks into the commissioner's office and says "Hello, Commissioner, do you want to see me?" Commissioner says "Yes, Chameleon, I have some news for you. Chameleon says "Oh, bad no doubt". Commissioner says "Bad for Mrs. Walters, Mrs. Harrison P. Walters. She's dead, committed suicide". Chameleon says "What? I can't believe that". Commissioner asks "Is that your considered judgment?" Chameleon says "Well, it's my unconsidered judgment, based on seeing her just last night at the St. Regis hotel dining room with her daughter and Mr. Lucas. I went over to their table. She seemed perfectly healthy and perfectly happy. Good Lord, Commissioner, that woman had everything. How did she do it?" Commissioner says "Poison. It seems that, for some time she'd been carrying these pills around. Everyone thought they were soda mints, but it turned out they weren't".

The Adventures of Philip Marlowe - The Open Window
Wednesday Mar 25, 2026
Wednesday Mar 25, 2026
A young woman knocks on Marlowe's apartment door. He opens it, and she says "Your name's Philip Marlowe?" He says "Yeah, why?" She says "Because I had that name and this address written here on this card. I think I was supposed to see you. Do you know me?" Marlowe says "Well, no, frankly, I don't. What were you supposed to see me about?" She says "Who are you, Mr. Marlowe? I mean, what sort of business...." Marlowe says "I'm a private detective". She starts getting upset and says "Private detective?" Marlowe says "Wait a minute, wait a minute. It's not that bad a racket. Oh, now, look, why don't you come in and we'll talk this over, huh? Come on". She says "All right. Thank you". Marlowe says "Sit down, won't you? You look like you can use a drink. You want one?" She says "No, thank you. I just need to rest a moment. I've been walking for hours". Marlowe says "Well, now, tell me, what is it?" She says "A man, I think. Someone's been following me. I was followed here, I'm sure. I don't know why". Marlowe says "Really?" She asks "This is Los Angeles, California, isn't it?" Marlowe says "Yeah". She says "I keep thinking.... That is, I feel as though it should be Vancouver, British Columbia. I don't know how I got here or why I want to see you, but, I've walked until I'm nearly exhausted and I found that I'd written your name and address on this card here, so I decided to come and try to find out". Marlowe says "Well, now, tell me. Do you know who you are?" She says "No, I don't know". Marlowe says "Mm-hmm. This man you're afraid of, do you know him?" She says "No. But I believe he knew me. He reminded me of Vancouver and that frightened me. I seem to remember I saw him a year ago, or maybe it was just the day before yesterday. See how crazy that sounds? But I can't help it. I can't remember. I can't". She starts getting upset again. Marlowe says "Here, here. Take it easy. Now, you better lie down". She says "Please, please try to find out who I am and why I'm being followed".

The Whistler - Gateway to Danger
Wednesday Mar 25, 2026
Wednesday Mar 25, 2026
Eddie Vincent was a real rags to riches success story. He came from the wrong side of the tracks, but everyone knew he was going places. The only trouble was that he didn't care how, so long as he got there. He eventually made his way through law school, and got the job of assistant to the district attorney. It was a thrill at first, sitting in with District Attorney Ryan on all the big cases, but after a few years of it, he began once again to feel that itch he couldn't scratch, the opportunist without the opportunity. Eddie wanted the position of District Attorney for himself, and began making plans to achieve that goal. Later, one foggy night at the prison across the bay, an opportunity may have just presented itself. District Attorney Ryan receives a phone call from Warden Campbell. After talking to him, Ryan calls Eddie into his office, and says "Warden Campbell is on his way here" Eddie says "Warden Campbell?" Ryan says "Yes, Bugsy Malone just escaped from prison five hours ago, about three in the morning. Check with headquarters and tell Lieutenant Connolly I want a detail of five men". Eddie says "Yes, sir. five men. Where do you want them assigned?" Ryan says "Tell Sergeant Gregg to put a man at every entrance to this building. No one is to be admitted without an appointment". Eddie says "You're being pretty careful, Chief. Is all this about Malone?" Ryan says "Yeah. It's been more than ten years since I last saw him. I had your job then". Eddie says "Didn't he have a protection racket or something?" Ryan says "Yes, and we never could pin him down. He's the cleverest criminal I ever tackled. We never would have nailed him except for one bad mistake. Eddie asks "Oh? What was that?" Ryan says "He figured he could beat any kind of a rap, even murder. Before we were through, we had him on five first degree counts, but he only went to prison for manslaughter, a 15 year sentence. Malone had this whole town terrified, including the jury".

The Man Called X - North of Thirty Eight
Tuesday Mar 24, 2026
Tuesday Mar 24, 2026
Ken Thurston is in a meeting with his Chief of Operations. The Chief says "A refugee from the north brought the information into Kunsan yesterday, Ken. A man from the village of Chin Chung". Ken says "Chin Chung is near the Mongolian border, isn't it Chief?" He says "That's right. About 70 miles inland from the Yellow Sea coast. And Ken, hold on to your hat, Roland Patterson is hiding out there". Ken says "Patterson! ... Patterson's alive?" Chief says "I know what you mean. You heard he crashed at sea on that solo flight from Formosa last month, only he didn't, or at any rate he was rescued". Ken says "Oh thank God for that. He's the greatest expert in the world on Oriental Affairs". Chief says "Ken, he predicted Pearl Harbor a year ahead of time, the invasion of South Korea six months before it happened, and probable Chinese intervention the day the UN forces crossed the 38th parallel". Ken says "Only then, nobody would believe him". Chief says "He's in North Korea hiding out with a man named Lee Chan, who used to be a professor at Harvard". Ken says "I've heard of him". Chief says "Now, apparently Patterson's in no shape to try and escape on his own". Ken says "Well, we've got to get him out some way. And from here, it looks like a one man job". Chief says "I'm afraid so, Ken. If the enemy finds out he's there, well, that will be that". Ken says "It's got to be secret, and it's got to be smooth". Chief says "Well, we're in contact now with the Army and Navy in Tokyo. They'll cooperate fully, anything you want". Ken says "In that case, I guess I better plan the operation from there, Chief". He says "You can get a plane out in an hour, and uh, watch yourself". Ken says "Oh, sure". Chief says "Incidentally, it's almost too good to be true, but what's happened to Zellschmidt lately?" Ken says "Oh, Pagon. The last time I saw him was when he got a telegram from Uncle Achmed, and took off for Washington". Chief says "Washington, huh?" Ken says "You know something, I wish you hadn't asked me". Chief says "Why not?" Ken says "You know, speak of the devil. Chief, I'll call you from Tokyo".

21st Precinct - The Mark
Monday Mar 23, 2026
Monday Mar 23, 2026
Captain Kennelly was scheduled to work the day shift, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, at the 21st Precinct. It was raining hard when he arrived. At ten minutes after 9:00 AM, Lieutenant Gorman, the desk officer, informed Kennelly of a two-alarm fire in a loft building on 2nd Avenue. By the time a car came by the station house to take Kennelly to the scene of the fire, it had become a three-alarm. The fire was put out by 11:14 AM, about the same time the rain stopped. Kennelly returned to the station to finish the paperwork. He noticed on his calendar that he was scheduled to give a talk on safety to the students of Julia Richmond High School at 1:30 PM, so at noon he changed to civilian clothes and took his rain soaked uniform trousers to be pressed while he when to lunch. He stopped at a tailor shop on Third Avenue operated by Phillip and Rose Parazoni. He walks in and says "Hi Mrs. Parazoni. How are you?" She remains quiet for a few seconds, then says "I'm fine". He says "I'm Captain Kennelly". Mrs. Parazoni yells toward the back of the shop "Phil, come here". Phil walks up and says "Hello, Captain" Kennelly says "Oh, hello Phil". He says "I see you got some pants". Kennelly says "I'm giving a talk to some high school students and wanted to see if I could get them pressed during lunch". Phil says "Sure, I'll take care of them". As Kennelly starts to leave, Phil says "Oh, Captain. I'm sorry for the way Rose acted". Kennelly says "it's alright, I understand". After lunch, he picked up his pants and gave the talk at the high school. At 2:10 PM, Kennelly returned to the station house. Sergeant Waters told him that Mr. and Mrs. Parazoni were waiting to see him in his office. Kennelly walks in and says "Hello, Phil, and Mrs. Parazoni. What can I do for you?" Several times Rose says "It's my fault". Phil says "Rose, please wait outside until I get this straightened out". After she goes out, Phil says "Captain, when you came into the shop to get your pants pressed, she acted funny because she thought you were there to arrest her".

Monday Mar 23, 2026
Richard walks into the Mr. George Victor's office. His secretary says "May I do something for you, sir?" Richard says "Repeat the offer while I think of something". She says "I beg your pardon?" Richard says "That's not the way I heard it first". She says "Did you want to see...." Richard says "Mr. George Victor". She asks "May I have your name?" Richard says "Mine's Diamond, Richard Diamond". She says "Oh, of course. Mr. Victor's expecting you. The door straight ahead. Go right in". Victor sees him come in and says "Yes?" Richard says "Mr. Victor?" He says "Yes, Oh, you're Diamond. Come in and sit down". Richard says "Thank you", and shows Victor his credentials. Victor says "You were recommended to me by Lieutenant Levinson of the police department. I want to hire you". Richard says "My fee is $100 a day and expenses. Unless we settle that first, I couldn't solve a case if it was tagged 100 proof". Victor says "Here are two checks. One is for a hundred dollars. The other is for five hundred dollars. You get the one hundred if you take the job. You will get the other check if you do the job satisfactorily". Richard says "Oh. Tell me all about it". Victor says "You may have heard that I bought the controlling interest in one of the biggest newspapers in the city". Richard says "Yes, That I heard". Victor says "All right. I'm going to expose the numbers racket". Richard says "Uh, that's been tried before". Victor says "I know, but this time it's different. I have all the evidence I need to expose one of the biggest operators, Aaron Ziegler". Richard says "Oh, you do pick them big". Victor says "Well, then you know what he is". Richard says "Yeah, but you said you had all the evidence. Where do I come in?" Victor says "Ziegler's my affair. Yours will be my daughter. Here's her picture". Richard looks at her picture, and says "Well, you can have Ziegler. I'm happy with this arrangement". Victor says "This is no joke, Mr. Diamond. My daughter works for Ziegler".

Barrie Craig, Confidential Investigator - The Schemers
Monday Mar 23, 2026
Monday Mar 23, 2026
Barrie was riding on the Fifth Avenue bus, when a man got on, walked past some empty seats, and sat down next to him. To Barrie, he didn't seem too kosher. It wasn't only the large scar on the man's cheek, but Barry just had a feeling about him, so he transferred his wallet to the side pocket furthest from him. The man says "I'm not a dip, friend". Barrie says "Second story man?" He says "Wrong again". Barrie says "Carnival shill with arson as a sideline? Now, don't tell me you're in some honest trade". The man says "I am". Barrie says "Now, you are". The man says "You better yourself every day friend. You begin bad and end good. That's life, no?" Barrie says "No comment. So, tell me". The man says "You think I sat next to you on purpose?" Barrie says "I can tell when a guy does. You got me sized up by now?" The man says "Not quite". Barrie says "Well, am I hired or not?" The man says "First consider what I say. I murdered a man an hour ago". Barrie says "Oh, it's a fine day for it". The man says "I shot him, and had the best of motives". Barrie says "That ought to reassure the corpse". The man says "You're a confidential investigator. Your license makes you a technical arm of the law, sworn to uphold it. It's your duty to detain and arrest me". Barrie says "I'm not the obliging type, sorry". The man says "I'm getting off the bus". Barrie says "Adios amigo". After the man leaves, Barrie knew that his anonymous friend wanted to find out if he was really confidential, before he dared to hire him. Barrie knew that the man's story was fake. He told it just to see if Barrie would grab him and yell for the police. Later, Barrie is working out at a health club when he sees the man again. Barrie says "Well, back with me again?" The man says "Yeah. My name is Moody, Gyp Moody". Barrie says "Oh. Did you get rid of that corpse?" Moody laughs and says "I was only kidding. You're for me. You don't run blabbing everything you hear." Barrie says "I'm glad I passed your test. Now, what's my job?" Moody says "200 grand was stolen from me five years ago. I want it back".

Gloria Winters is driving on a black top country road at night, about 18 miles east of the little town of Udalia. It is raining hard and she is in a hurry, because her husband, Leo Winters, doesn't appreciate lateness, especially around dinner time. Suddenly, her headlights pick up something in the road. She honks her horn, but it does not seem to move. Gloria says "Come on, stupid. Get out of my way. Oh my! It's a man!" She hits her brakes, and the car comes to a stop. She gets out, and asks "Are you alright? What happened?" The man says "A car hit me and drove off. Thanks for stopping. A lot of people didn't". Gloria asks "Do you think you can make it to my car? The man says "Yeah, with a little help". Gloria helps him, saying "Okay, there we go. That's it. Steady now. Just slip into the seat. Yeah. There you go. Okay, I'll close the door and come around the other side". The man says "Watch yourself. There's some crazy guys driving this road". Gloria gets into the driver's seat, and says "You're soaked. You are hurt. I'll take you to the Hermitage". The man asks "What's that?" Gloria says "The hospital". The man says "Oh, no. No hospital". She says "But, you're bleeding now. You need to go". The man says "No way. I have a thing about hospitals". Gloria says "Okay then, where to?" The man says the Three Coyotes Motel. It's located just outside ..." Gloria says "I know where it is". Soon, they arrive at the motel. She helps him to his room, and says "Lie down. Put your head on the pillow", and begins tending to his wounds. He says "You are some dynamite good Samaritan". She says "Well, I have a right to see what you look like under all that dirt and blood, haven't I?" He says "No argument". As she is cleaning his face, she says "There, now you are beginning to have a perfectly good ...." She suddenly stops. He says "It's that bad, huh?" She says "Oh, no, it's nothing, I just thought of something". He asks "Like what?" She says "You look exactly like my husband! You are identical to him. That's why I got such a shock when I saw your face in the light".

The Adventures of Rocky Jordan - The Strange Fate of Professor Amar
Saturday Mar 21, 2026
Saturday Mar 21, 2026
Rocky had just helped a friend catch a train at the little Calliope station on the northern outskirts of Cairo, when another train came in and made its last stop before pulling into the city. An elderly man with white goatee and carrying a briefcase stepped off the last car for a quick smoke. Rocky recognized him as his old friend Professor Joseph Amar, whom he had not seen since the war. Rocky hurried over for a word with him. He says "Professor Amar, how are you?" Amar says "I beg your pardon?" Rocky says "It's been a long time, hasn't it, Professor?" Amar says "A long time? May I ask ...." Rocky says "You are Professor Amar, aren't you?" Amar says "Why, that is my name, and you?" Rocky says "Rocky Jordan, don't you remember? Back in Istanbul? Amar says "Istanbul, yes, of course". Rocky says "It must be six years now". Amar says "Mister, the train is leaving. I have little time". Rocky says "Wait, is that all you got to say to me?" Amar says "I am sorry, permit me to return to my car. Goodbye". Rocky says "Sure, Professor, goodbye to you". To Rocky, it seemed like a quick brush off, but, he told himself, some people can change a lot in a few years. Rocky turned his back and started to leave, but he didn't get far. The wild shouts from the crowd sent him running back. Rocky asks a stranger standing there "What is it? What happened?" He says "That man fell beneath the wheels of the train! He is surely dead, as you see!" Rocky says "Yeah, how did it happen?" The stranger says "I do not know. Uh, his briefcase lies there". Rocky says "I'll take the briefcase, buster. Give it to me". The stranger says "Did I not see you talking to this unfortunate person a moment ago?" Rocky says "He's the same. It's Professor Joseph Amar". Rocky hung onto the briefcase and went to find a phone to call headquarters, but he didn't have to, because the sound of a police car siren was heard. Soon, Captain Sam Sabaya, a stocky man wearing tweed, and a couple of uniformed men came in. After Sam asks a few questions, he tells Rocky that he must accompany them to the station house.

Johnny's telephone is ringing. He picks it up and says "Johnny Dollar". A man on the line says "Mr. Dollar, my name is Parley Baron. I'm calling from Hollywood". Johnny says "Hollywood? Uh, what insurance company, Mr. Baron?" He says "None. You handle all investigations for Eastern Liability and Trust?" Johnny says "Yeah, I guess I do". Baron says "Well, I am sure that they'll be calling you shortly". Johnny asks "What about, sir?" Baron says "A little matter of embezzlement. Nearly 10,000 dollars that's been stolen from the Berkeley Furniture Manufacturing Company there in Hartford, Connecticut". Johnny asks "You're connected with Berkeley Furniture?" Baron says "No. No, actually I am not". Johnny says "Then, what's your connection with this embezzlement?" Baron says "I suggest you check with Berkeley and, of course, the insurance company. When you have learned the facts from them, I am sure you will find it of the utmost importance to contact me". Johnny says "You're in Hollywood?" Baron says "Yes. Goodbye, Mr. Dollar". Johnny asks "But, where in Hollywood?" Baron hangs up the phone. Johnny says "Hello? Hello?" Johnny then makes a phone call to Hal Spidle, his regular contact at Eastern Liability and Trust. Hal says "Well, Hi Johnny. Nice to talk to you again". Johnny says "Yeah, nice to talk to you, Hal. Listen, have you received a report of loss from the Berkeley Furniture Manufacturing Company?" Hal says "Well, they're a client of ours, but no. What makes you ask a thing like that?" Johnny says "A phone call I just got". Hal says "They called you direct?" Johnny says "Well, somebody did. A man by the name of ...." Hal receives another call and says "Wait a second. Yes, Mr. Who? Hold everything, Johnny". He says "I'm holding". After a few seconds, Hal comes back on the line and says "Johnny, you've got an assignment. It's the Berkeley Furniture Manufacturing Company". Johnny says "Embezzlement? 10,000 dollars?" Hal says "Yes, how did you find out about it? They just found out about it themselves. So, get on over there and see what goes, will you?" Johnny says "Hal, will do".

Mr. Keen, Tracer of Lost Persons - The Photograph Album Murder Case
Friday Mar 20, 2026
Friday Mar 20, 2026
At 11 o'clock at night, a taxi cab pulls up at a house in one of New York's finer residential districts. A young girl, attractive and well-dressed, gets out of the taxi, She starts towards the house, unaware that someone is waiting in the shadows. She says "My key, it must be here in my handbag". She notices someone and says "Who's there? You, what are you doing? Put down that knife! She screams "No .... No!" The police soon find her body. The next day, Mr. Keen receives a visitor named Larry Benton. He says "Did you read in the morning paper about the murder of a girl named June Reynolds?" Keen says "Yes, I did. It occurred around 11 o'clock last night". Benton says "That's right, Mr. Keen. June was stabbed to death as she was about to enter the house". Mike says "I read about it too. The young lady's handbag was stolen and the police figure some hoodlum robbed her and stabbed her to death when she tried to call for help". Benton says "Only they're wrong, Mr. Clancy, completely wrong. June was deliberately murdered. Her handbag was stolen to throw the police off the track". Keen says "Mr. Benton, just how are you related to the murdered girl and why do you believe robbery was not the motive?" Benton says "June Reynolds was my fiancé. We'd been together ever since she came to New York from a little town in Iowa a year ago. She worked as a stenographer in the same firm where I'm employed as an accountant, only June's real ambition was to become an actress. She belonged to one of those little amateur theater groups in Greenwich Village. About a month ago, she was in a play there and Mrs. Elsa Foster saw her and decided to sponsor her. She said June had great talent and ought to become an actress. Mrs. Foster took June to live with her in her beautiful home. She persuaded June to give up her job and devote all her time to studying for the theater. I begged June not to accept her offer". Mike asks "Why did you object?" Benton says "I had a feeling there was something strange about it. Mrs. Foster seemed to take charge of June completely".

Thursday Mar 19, 2026
Jimmy Leonard, a 16-year-old newsboy was charged with hit-and-run manslaughter. He is being held at the Midtown precinct where Martha Ellis Bryant is summoned by Judd Barnes. He says "I want you to see him, Marty. I want you to talk to him. Lieutenant Ed Levas will be back any minute. He'll okay the visit". Martha says "You're pretty upset about this boy". Judd says "I've known him since he was two feet high. And I don't think he's guilty". Martha says "Well, the police must have had some reason for bringing him in". Judd says "He owns a hot rod. Keeps it in a public garage near the paper. When he went in this morning, the fender and a headlight were smashed up. He took it to a body shop to have it straightened. The police picked him up in nothing flat". Martha asks "Because of that man who was run down on River Street last night?" Judd says "Yeah, a couple of people who were waiting near the ferry slip said they saw a hot rod come zooming along and kill him. Jimmy's hot rod isn't the only one in town". Martha says "But not with a smashed fender. Is that it?" Judd says "Jimmy says he didn't drive it last night and I believe him". Martha asks "Why, Judd? Usually you're the doubting Thomas". Judd says "Marty, it takes somebody pretty cold blooded to run a man down and then beat it without stopping to help. And this kid isn't cold blooded". Martha says "Judd, he's just a boy. He might have been frightened". Judd says "Not that frightened, Marty". Just then, Lieutenant Levas walks up. Judd says "Oh. Hi, Ed". Martha says "Hello, Lieutenant". Levas says "Hi, Judd. and Miss Bryant". Judd says "Ed, Marty wants to see Jimmy Leonard. How about it?" Levas says "I guess somebody better see him. He's going to need help". Judd says "What do you mean by that, Ed?" Levas says "I mean, he killed a man on River Street last night". Judd says "You want to make book on that?" Levas says "Save your money. I've just come from the lab". Judd says "His car was in the garage all night". Levas says "Not according to the lab report. There's a blood trace on that smashed fender that matches the blood of the man who was killed".

It's after supper now and they've just settled down on the living room couch. William says "Betty, honey, it's been a mighty nice day, hasn't it?" Betty says "It sure has". William says "You know, we got a lot to be thankful for". Betty says "Indeed we have". William says "A comfortable home, our feelings for each other, and the work Walt has been giving me keeps us going along good". Suddenly, the doorbell rings. Betty says "Now who do you suppose that is?" William says "Well, I better go see". William opens the door, and the visitor says "I beg your pardon, sir, but how does it feel to be married 25 years?" William says "Walter!" They have a good laugh, and Walter says "Bill, you didn't think that Patsy and I have forgotten what day this is?" William says "Say, we are mighty glad you dropped in. Come in, come in. Betty, we got company, good company, it's Walter and the missus. Betty says "Well, hello there!" Patsy says "Congratulations, Mrs. Gates!" She says "Thank you, honey". Walter says "Well, here's a little package for you both". Betty says "Oh, Mr. Carter ...." Patsy says "That's nothing, Mrs. Gates. Walter's got a real surprise for you". Betty says "You mean there's something more?" Walter says "Bill, how would you and Betty like to have a day at Niagara Falls?" Bill says "What?" Betty says "Niagara Falls!" Walter says "That's right. We got a compartment for you both on the train to Buffalo tonight, and it's just a little short run from there to the Falls and you can come back the next day". William says "But, would we have to go tonight, Walter?" Walter says "Yeah, you would". William asks "Why?" Walter says "Because there'll be a man getting on in the compartment next to yours, heading for New York with a satchel full of bonds worth 50,000 dollars". William asks "And you want us to steal them?" Walter says "That's right". William says "Well, for heaven's sake, Walter, why didn't you say that in the first place? Just think, Betty, at last we're going to see Niagara Falls!"

Tuesday Mar 17, 2026
Tuesday Mar 17, 2026
Late on a Saturday night, in a small town in the ranch country of Colorado, most of the ranch hands in for entertainment had headed home. But in front of a small house just off the square, a man named Randall Thornberry was leaning against a street light and smoking a cigarette. Finally, he threw the cigarette into the street, walked up the front porch, and starts knocking on the front door. A woman inside says "Yes, who is it?" He says "Mae, it's me, Randall, will you open up?" Mae opens the door and says "He ain't here. How many times do I have to tell you?" Randall says "Where is he?" She says "How should I know?" Randall says "He said he was coming here". Mae says "Listen, what your brother Obie says and what he does are the two different things. You ought to know that by now". Randall says "Okay, if you see him tell him I went back to Ter's cabin. I went back to get some sleep". Mae says "If I see him I'll tell him". Randall says "Good night. Don't forget, it's important". Mae says "Good night", shuts the door, and goes back to the bedroom. Obie asks "Was it Randall again?" Mae says "Yeah, it was Randall again". Obie says "Why don't he go home to sleep?" Mae says "That's where I sent him". Obie says "Some brother I got, Mae. He follows me around like a beagle dog". Mae says "Ah, let's forget about your brother, huh Obie?" He says "Sure, baby". Mae says "Come on, sit down. Give me a kiss". A few seconds later, Obie says "How about it, Mae? Suppose we forget Randall. You and me, we start traveling, right now". Mae says "No, honey, that wouldn't be any good". Obie asks "Why wouldn't it?" Mae says "You wouldn't want me to get mixed up in your business, now would you?" Obie says "No, I guess it wouldn't wouldn't be fair". Mae says "So, like I was saying, you just go out with Randall and do what you have to do. I'll be sitting and waiting for you to come back".

Jeff Regan, Investigator - The Man on the Hook
Monday Mar 16, 2026
Monday Mar 16, 2026
Jeff Regan was having a good day at a bowling alley on Vine Street. After bowling another strike, he went back to the bench to mark his score, and noticed that someone had written him a message on his score sheet, in lipstick. The message read "Regan, coffee shop counter, hurry". Also, pinned to his score sheet was a 100 dollar bill. Regan thought "This is my lucky day" as he made his way to the coffee counter. The attendant asks "What will it be, mister?" Regan says "Coffee, no cream". Just then, a young lady comes up and says "Mind if I sit on this stool, Regan?" He says "No, sit down". She orders a cup, and says "Regan, open your hand under the counter. I'm going to put four 100 dollar bills in your hand". Regan says "With the one pinned on the score pad, that makes 500 dollars. For which I do what?" She says "Find George McDonald". Regan says "Listen, lady, half the cops in town are looking for McDonald, not to mention Eddie Slogan". She says "I'm Eddie Slogan's wife". Regan says "Lady, I'm not a finger man". She says "I don't want him for Eddie. I want him for me. I love the guy". Regan says "Sure, you do. Get another Shamus, sister". She says "Don't be so special, Regan, 500 big ones". Regan says "Yeah, that is an argument". Just then, the attendant says "Hey, mister, is your name Regan?" He says "Yeah". Attendant says "Phone for you". Mrs. Slogan says "We can't talk here. Your car is parked out back in the alley". Regan says "See you at my car in five minutes". He picks up the phone and says "Hello?" Lyon says "Hello, Jeffery, I'm glad I located you. A splendid client has come our way". Regan says "Wants to pay us 500 bucks". Lyon says "Well, yes". Regan says "Wants us to find a missing person. A guy named George McDonald". Lyon says "Jeffery, you astound me!" Regan says "Our client has baby blue eyes and great looking legs". Lyon says "Jeffery, what are you talking about? Mr. Halligan had his trousers on, how could I see his legs?" Regan says "You mean a guy came to the office?" Lyon says "Yes, Mr. Happy Halligan, the used car king".

The Epic Casebook - Death on the Counterfoil
Monday Mar 16, 2026
Monday Mar 16, 2026
It was a few minutes after Big Ben had struck the hour at midday when Scotland Yard was alerted of Gloomy Gilbert's death. Gilbert was a particularly unpleasant loan shark that ran a nightclub named The Blue Rabbit. Bertrand, the headwaiter of the nightclub, dialed 999 and told the control officer that he'd found his boss lying on the floor of his office with his head bashed in. Inspector Carr, accompanied by Sergeant Jackson, rushed to the scene. Carr began questioning Bertrand, saying "So, you found the body?" Bertrand says "Yes sir. I knocked at the door, but got no answer. I shouted out "Mr. Gilbert, there is a gentleman here to see you". Still, I received no answer. I opened the door, and there he was. Lying there just as he is now". Carr notices that the office does not show any signs of a struggle. As Jackson was searching through Gilbert's effects, Carr continues to question the headwaiter. He says "Now, you say a man wanted to see Gilbert. Who was he?" Bertrand says "I don't know, sir. I must have shouted out when i saw Gloomy Gilbert lying there like that. Anyway, when I ran down the stairs to dial 999 from the phone in the hall, he'd gone. I didn't see him well". Carr says "I see. Didn't he say something like my name's George or something, I want to see Gilbert". Bertrand says "No, lots of people come here to see the old so-and-so. They didn't introduce themselves to me". Carr says "Just a minute...I smell perfume, ladies' perfume. Who else was here this morning?" Bertrand says "I can't tell you exactly, sir. I'm down in the basement when the front door is usually opened. I saw the manager take a man called Fred up, that's about all". Carr says "The manager, where is he? Is he around?" Bertrand says "Yes, I think he's having a cup of coffee. Come to think of it, I think I can smell perfume too". Carr says "Jackson, do you smell perfume?" Jackson says "Yes, sir. I can. Do you think a woman's been here?"

The Adventures of Sam Spade - The Vendetta Caper
Sunday Mar 15, 2026
Sunday Mar 15, 2026
Ex-boxer and current millionaire Chandler Gazden, of the Gazden Electrical Appliance Company, walks into Sam Spade's office. He says "Spade, I'm Chandler Gazden". Sam says "Well, I recognize you". Chandler asks "What do guys like you charge?" Sam says "Well, it depends on the job". Chandler says "Investigation". Sam says "Sixty dollars a day and any unusual expenses". Chandler says "Cheap. Well, do you guys have some kind of a code?" Sam says "Code?" Chandler says "You know, like doctors do. You keep things in confidence?" Sam says "Well, most of us do, including me". Chandler says "I don't suppose it would make any big difference if it got out. I'm not afraid of him. I'd just as soon punch him in the mouth as look at him". Sam asks "Who?" Chandler says "Monty Cristoff. He moved into the peninsula, my neighborhood. He bought the Major Dunhill place". Sam says "Oh yeah, I know the estate. It must have cost plenty to buy". Chandler says "Ever since he moved into that ark of a house, he's been throwing parties there like a cross between the last days of Pompei and a Polish wedding. I'm never invited, but he invites hundreds of guests, everybody who is anybody". Sam says "Disgusting, but it seems legal so far". Chandler says "Well, look, I got to tell you some more. A month ago one of my company warehouses burned down. Somebody slipped up and the fire Insurance hadn't renewed. I lost 350,000. Guess who had lunch with my insurance man a week before the fire?" Sam says "Monty Cristoff". Chandler says "You got it. Next, there was a rumor that the Gazden Electrical Company is on the verge of bankruptcy. Of course it isn't, but when the stock prices start dropping, somebody buys them up so fast they disappear overnight. Now, I see all my friends start getting unfriendly as soon as I show up. Everybody stops talking and act as if there's some big secret about me that I don't know. And they've all been to Cristoff's parties. I want to find out why. I don't even know the guy but he's making a big change in my life".

Frank Wineglass, a successful manufacturer of ladies girdles and foundation garments, was in his office when his son, Doug, paid a visit with some exciting news. Doug says "Hi, Dad. Do you have a minute? Frank says "Well hello Doug, of course I've got a minute come on in and sit down". Doug says "Dad, I want you to be the first to know that you're going to be a father-in-law!" Frank says "Doug, you mean you're going to get married? Well, who is she?" Doug says "The gal who makes millions of women think they can have her figure if they wear Smooth Skin girdles". Frank says "Doug, surely you don't mean Diane. Not Diane Rodell". Doug says "Now wait a minute, Dad. I don't like the tone of your voice. Just because she's a model ...." Frank says "Right, well now, isn't it possible that you've let yourself get carried away? I mean a beautiful girl like that and ...." Doug says "And what?" Frank says "Doug, I want you to be happy, but please Doug, not Diane Rodell". Doug says "Why do you say, not Diane Rodell, like that for?" Frank says "Because I know what she is. She's a very experienced little number and she knows that you'll own this business someday. She's the patient, careful type, and she's grasping and breathing ...." Doug says "Cut it out, Dad". Frank says "She's cheap and common and no good! You can't. I won't let you!" Doug says "If you're going to talk like that, let's drop the subject". Frank says "Doug, now please, let's not quarrel, but please, let's talk this thing over". Doug says "There's nothing to talk over!" Frank says "Doug you're making a mistake. You're making a terrible mistake. The girl is no good, believe me I know. I just can't let you do that!" Doug says "What do you mean, let me?" Frank says "That's exactly what I mean. I won't let you!" Doug says "I'm afraid you won't be able to stop me". Frank says "Do you mean to say that you've never figured out why Diane Rodell, with her looks, would marry a 24 year old kid with a lame foot?" After a few seconds, Doug says "Dad, after that one there's nothing much left for us to say".

The New Adventures of Nero Wolfe - A Slight Case of Perjury
Saturday Mar 14, 2026
Saturday Mar 14, 2026
Archie Goodwin answers the phone, "Nero Wolf's office, Archie Goodwin speaking. Just a moment please. Hey boss, Mr. Tom Wilcox wants an appointment. How about one o'clock?" Wolfe says "Archie, no appointments today. I intend to pot some dendrobium offsets". Archie says "One o'clock will be fine, Mr. Wilcox". Wolfe asks "Is he the Tom Wilcox who was acquitted yesterday of the murder of the singer Keith Hanson?" Archie asks "Mr. Wilcox, are you the Tom Wilcox who... Oh, you are. I see". Wolfe asks "What does he want with me?" Archie says "Mr. Wilcox, why do you seek Mr. Wolfe's services? Oh, I see. Well, our fee is a thousand dollars with a retainer of five hundred, okay? Oh yes, Mr. Wolf will see you". Just then, over the phone, Archie hears what sounds like a gunshot. He says "What's that? Hey, what was that? Hey, hey, Mr. Wilcox". Archie hangs up the phone and says to Wolfe "Wilcox whispered someone was at the window. Then, I heard a shot and he dropped the phone. Boss, I'm afraid we've just lost a client". After a few minutes, Wilcox calls back. Archie answers and says "Oh, Mr. Wilcox, are you all right? Was that a shot? It was, huh? I'm glad it missed". Wolfe says "Tell him to come right over here". Archie says "Well, come right over". Archie hangs up again and says "Boss, the police never found the gun that killed Keith Hanson. Wilcox said he thinks he was shot at with a .32 caliber. He dug the bullet out of the wall. The murderer of Hanson must now be after Wilcox". Wolfe says "If Wilcox is telling the truth". Archie says "He was acquitted. The society gal, Mrs. Patricia Park, established his alibi, said she was with Wilcox at the time the murder was supposed to have occurred". A short time later, Wilcox arrives at Wolfe's office. During the interview, Wilcox says "It was going rough for me at the police station, until Patricia Park testified she was with me at the time when the crime was said to have been committed". Wolfe asks "Why didn't you tell the police that in the first place?" Wilcox says "Well, that's the trouble. She wasn't. It was a lie. I've never even met her."

Dan Holiday receives a letter in his Box 13 that reads: "Mr. Holiday, If your advertisement about wanting adventure is bonafide, do this, call Yorkside 89078 and ask for Dr. Ogden. Make an appointment with him. Then, call Madison 9548 and ask for Mr. Alexander. When you've done these two things, you will receive further instructions. I will wait until three o'clock tomorrow afternoon for your call. If you want money, I can arrange that. If you're only interested in adventure, this will give it to you". After reading, Dan says "There is no signature, so I assume the letter is from the strange Mr. Alexander". Susie says "I wonder why you're to make an appointment with a doctor, Mr. Holiday?" Dan says "I don't know, Susie, but it's a very interesting letter. I'll tell you what, suppose you dial the first number for me and we'll get in touch with Dr. Ogden". Susie dials the number and, to her surprise, the doctor answers his own phone. She hands the phone to Dan. He says "Dr. Ogden, I'd like to make an appointment to see you". Ogden says "Oh, today?" Dan says "Well, let's say at your convenience". Ogden says "Would tomorrow be alright?" Dan says "Fine. What time?" Ogden says "At two o'clock sharp. Do you know the address?" Dan says "No. You'd better give it to me". Ogden says "It's at 7869 River Lane Terrace". Dan says "Okay, I'll be there at two. Oh, just a second doctor. Don't you want to know who I am?" Ogden says "No, I prefer to find it out my way". Dan hangs up the phone and Susie asks "What did he say?" Dan says "It sounded like he preferred to find out my name in his own way". Susie asks "What does he mean by that?" Dan says "I wish I knew". Susie says "Let's call our other number, Madison 9548". Mr. Alexander answers, and asks Dan "Did you call Dr. Ogden?" Dan says "Yes I did. I have an appointment with him for two o'clock". Mr. Alexander says "Good. Now, I'll give you a name and a message for him tomorrow. The name is "Matthew Carey" and the message is "The dead shall not stay dead".

A tropical storm has caused an electricity outage in Havana and Shannon's Place. Saylor asks "Where are you, Slate?" He says "Stop yelling in my ear, I'm right beside you. Did you find the candles?" Saylor says "Yes, right where you told me they were, in the pantry. Slate says "Hold still until light them. That's a little better". Saylor says "All the lines are down, huh?" Slate says "Telephone is working, but that's about all". After hearing a crash, Saylor says "There goes that hotel sign again, it's always falling down". Slate says "Yeah, ever since the last time you sang in the shower". Suddenly, someone is knocking loudly on the front door. Saylor says "I'll get it". She opens the door and sees a young woman in the pouring rain. Saylor says "Quickly, come in so I can close the door". After getting inside, Saylor says "You're going to have to register by candlelight, Miss. The management isn't trying to be romantic, it's just that the electricity is out". The young woman asks "Who are you? Where is this?" Saylor looks at her and asks "What's the matter with you?" The young woman says "Tell me where I am?" Saylor says "Slate, Slate come here. Look at her, Slate". He says "What do you think I'm doing?" Saylor says "Hold your candle up to her". Slate says "Yeah, tell me when my hand catches on fire. Nice rain we're having, isn't it, Miss?" She says "Don't come near me, don't come near me!" Saylor says "Slate, watch it, she's got a gun". Slate says "Take it easy, Miss". She fires a shot through a window" Slate says "You little fool, drop that gun!" She says "Your hands, take them off!" Slate knocks the gun out of her hand, and says "Okay, sis, you made a good entrance. Now tell me why you did". She doesn't say anything. Slate says "Well, tell me or the cops". Saylor says "Cut it out, Slate, can't you see she's sick? We better get a doctor". Slate says "When a girl roams around in a storm with a gun, she needs a cop". Saylor says "This time we'll do it my way, we'll get a doctor".

Calling All Cars - Corpse in the Red Necktie
Friday Mar 13, 2026
Friday Mar 13, 2026
On December 28th, over the Santa Monica Mountains, huge rain clouds move in from the ocean. Thunder and lightning fill the tangled brush filled ravine that is Latigo Canyon. Then a blinding rain that sends a torrent of water roaring through the mountains. On a small road leading out of the canyon, A Model T Ford Sedan crawls to a stuttering halt. Two men climb out and sink up to their knees in the soft mud. First man says "We've got to hurry. The storm's getting worse" Second man says "Yeah come on. Give me a hand with him. Here, I'll take his leg". First man asks "You going to leave the tie on him?" Second one says "Sure, we can't waste any time. Come on". They take him to the edge of the cliff and throw him over. First one asks "Should we throw the clothes over too? Second one says "We'll get rid of them later, somewhere up the road. Let's get out of here". For two days, the rain continues. Then, on the third day, the storm moves back to sea. High overhead, in the little substation shed of Malibu Canyon, Deputies Ed Chapman and Joe Nestor are preparing to drive to the Santa Monica station when a car slides to a skidding stop in front. A man climbs out and hurries to the door. Nestor says "Looks like we got visitors, Ed". Chapman says "Yeah in a hurry too". The young man runs up to them and asks "Are you the Sheriff?" Chapman says "Well, not exactly the whole Sheriff, but I'm in charge here". Young man says "There's a body up the road. A dead body all right and it hasn't any clothes". Chapman says "There's a body in the road? Where?" Young man says "In Latigo Canyon. I didn't find it. One of the guy's I work with did". Chapman says "We better go out there and take a look, Joe".

Suspense - Once a Murderer
Thursday Mar 12, 2026
Thursday Mar 12, 2026
Tom Shaw and Bert Shinn were employed by an Advertisement Signage company and were doing some work in an empty shop located at 75 Bond Street. The owner had recently contracted the signage company to help prepare it for reopening. While Tom was working, a man approached him and asked for the key to the shop, saying that he was the new tenant. Tom gave him the key and told him that he and Bert would return in the morning to retrieve their ladder and tools. The next morning, as they are going to the shop, Bert asks "What did you give him the key for?" Tom says "He said he had leased the place. How was I to know?" Bert says "It doesn't look like he's moved in, anyhow. I thought you said he'd be here". They find the door to the shop open and go inside. Tom says "I'll take the ladder. The tools are in the box in the corner". As Bert retrieves them, he sees something behind the counter. He says "It looks like a shoe". As Tom walks over to see, Bert says "It's murder, Tom! It's a murder! Look Tom!" Tom says "You stay here, and I'll call the police!" Bert says "Look at her poor face!" Tom asks "Are you alright, Bert?" He says "I don't know. I think I'm going to be sick ..." Tom says "You wait outside, and I'll get a copper!" Later that day, Tom was interviewed by an investigator at the police station. While there, he learned the name of the victim, Anna Leeming. Tom recounted the story of how he gave the key to the new tenant. The inspector asks "Did the stranger stay in the shop after you had gone?" Tom says "Yeah. He said he wanted to look around and to not worry about the tools, because he would lock up when he left". The inspector asks "Didn't you wonder how you would manage to get in this morning if the door was locked and you no longer had the key?" Tom says "No, he said he'd be there early and let me in". Inspector asks "And you've never seen Anna Leeming before?" Tom says "Never". Inspector says "You've been very helpful, Mr. Shaw. We may wish to get in touch with you again, particularly when we find the man who leased the shop".

Some time ago, a gangster named Joe Hann fled the United States for a South American country that has no extradition law. His current living conditions and the amount of time he spent exiled has taken a toll on him. He is standing at the front desk of his shabby hotel yelling "Hey. A little service here, huh? What do you say? A little service?" Pedro comes to the front desk and says "Si, Mr. Hann?" Joe says "Give me my mail, will you?" Pedro says "Oh, si, Mr. Hann, three letters for you. Also, a message from Mr. Dixon. He was most sorry not to find you here. He said he would return. When, he did not say". Joe says "College boy, huh? Well, that's just dandy". Pedro says "Senorita Martinez is waiting for you in your room". Joe asks "And how did she get in?" Pedro says "She just went up. Senor, she insisted. What could I do?" Joe says "Well, you might try saying no, stupid". Joe goes up to his room and sees her waiting for him. He says "What are you doing here?" She says "I do not see you for a week. When I call, you do not answer the phone. When I come by, you are not there". Joe says "I got things to do, Carmen". She says "Oh, Joe" and starts to cry. Joe says "Oh, come on now. Don't sit there and cry. It gets on my nerves. Go buy me a bottle of whiskey, I'm bone dry. The money's in the top drawer". Carmen says "Joe, I want to talk to you". He says "Not now. Go on, and leave the door open. I'm expecting Manuel, my lawyer, to stop by". Carmen says "My brother, Manuel, here?" Joe says "Yes, now, vamos!" A minute or two later, Joe hears a knock at the door. Dixon says "Your door was open, but I thought I'd knock". Joe says "Oh, it's you, Dixon". He says "Who were you expecting?" Joe says "Not you, college boy. I was expecting my lawyer". Dixon says "Oh, I'm a lawyer, too. passed my bar exam, got my diploma, everything". Joe says "To me, you're just a cop. One sent down here just to tail me. What do you want?" Dixon says "I have news for you, Joe. The legislature here in this country are working on a law. It's going to be on the books very soon, an extradition law".

I Was a Communist for the FBI - Squeeze Play
Wednesday Mar 11, 2026
Wednesday Mar 11, 2026
Matt Cvetic is in attendance of a meeting held by Herbert Samish, the current communist cell leader, who is speaking to party members about their latest project. He says "Comrades, the real purpose of this public sympathy project is to prove the strength of our cause. Our job is to convince the American public that we communists are poor, mistreated, and misunderstood darlings who are being persecuted unjustly according to their own constitution. The procedure has been outlined for us by the National Board of the party. We are to choose a man who is awaiting trial in jail for some crime or other and help in every possible way to set him free. Once we've chosen our man, we will use every propaganda device we know, publications, petitions, public demonstrations, that sort of thing to make the public believe he is being persecuted not for the crime he may have committed, but for being sympathetic to the Communist Party. Political persecution, for some reason, is distasteful to Americans". Cvetic says "Comrade Samish, I have the file here on untried criminal cases". Samish says "Oh good, very good". Cvetic says "All the people listed here are in jail, now awaiting their trial". Looking at the list, Samish says "What about this Leo Bremner? You've circled his name". Cvetic says "Oh, he's worth considering. One of our front organizations in Woodford City received a letter from his mother asking us for help". Samish says "Woodford City, huh? That's good territory for us". Cvetic says "Mrs. Bremner claims her son was picked up on a murder charge two months ago and he's being held without a hearing. Lawyers won't take the case, and the police refuse to act on it". Samish says "In Woodford City that's quite possible. This man may be made to order for us". Another party member asks "Is Bremner sympathetic to the proletariat?" Cvetic says "What difference does it make? Our propaganda will make it seem that he is, of course. Remember, comrades, we'll be helping this poor man. He's in no position to look a gift horse in the mouth, even a red gift horse".

Mary Wesley, Blackie's girlfriend, lives in an apartment across the hall from Mr. and Mrs. John Peterson's apartment. For the past month, Mrs. Peterson has been telling Mary that she is afraid of her husband, and that he wants to kill her. One day, Mrs. Peterson is pressing the door buzzer on Mary's door. Mary answers and says "Oh, Mrs. Peterson, come on in". She says "No. Is your friend Boston Blackie here with you?" Mary says "Well, no, he's not". Mrs. Peterson says "Well, then, I want you to come over to my apartment, please. Right away". Mary asks "Why? What's the matter?" Mrs. Peterson says "You know what's the matter. I tried to tell you a dozen times, my husband's going to kill me!" Mary says "Oh now, Mrs. Peterson, you know that can't be true ...." She says "Please, come over. My husband made a phone call to Frank awhile ago, but he was out. He's going to call back any minute". Mary asks "Frank? Who's Frank". Mrs. Peterson says "Our lawyer. Oh, please, Miss Wesley, you have to come over. Maybe this phone call will prove to you that my husband's trying to kill me!" Mary says "Alright, I'll come over with you". They quietly go into the Peterson's apartment. Mary asks "Where's your husband? Mrs. Peterson says "He's in the study, with the door closed. He's just waiting for that call. He's going to make plans to kill me, you will see". Mary says "Now, look, Mrs. Peterson ...." Suddenly, the phone starts ringing. Mrs. Peterson says "We'll listen on the extension". On the phone, Frank says "John, had a message that you called. What is it that you want?" John says "I want to know a couple of things about my wife's insurance policy. Is it all paid up to today?" Frank says "Yes, you took care of that". John says "And I'm the sole beneficiary?" Frank says "Yeah, sure". John says "What happens if my wife is murdered? Do I still get the one hundred thousand?" Frank says "Sure you do, John. Unless the police prove that you murdered her".

Detective Sergeants Joe Friday and Ben Romero are working the day watch out of Traffic Division. At 7:55 AM, Friday arrived at 123 South Figueroa Street in Los Angeles. Friday meets Lieutenant McGee of the division. Friday asks "Has Ben come in yet?" McGee says "He's down in the record room". Soon, Romero appears and says "Hi, Joe. I picked up the overnight reports down at records, McGee. Here you go". McGee says "Oh, thanks, Ben. This one on top here. I'd like to have you two check it out". Romero says "Dead body report?" McGee says "Yeah. Left me a note on it. That's about all. Hard to figure". Friday asks "What's the story?" McGee says "Just what you see in the report". Friday reads the report "Victim. Edward Raymond Stokes, 732 Delano Street, Apartment 2". McGee says "His body was found in the gutter near 63rd and Vermont at 3 o'clock this morning. No witnesses. Only one piece of evidence". Friday says "Yeah, see they got it listed here. Skid marks near the body. Is that all?" McGee says "That's it. Apparently hit and run". Romero asks "Where's the body?" McGee says "At a neighborhood mortuary out there. Emerald Hills Funeral Home. One of the deputy coroners handled the body. A fellow named Joe Larimore". Friday asks "Has anybody claimed it yet?" McGee says "No". Friday says "Okay. Ben, you ready?" Romero says "Yeah, lets go". They drive to the scene where the body was found to look at the skid marks, and discover that they were too old to have happened the previous night. Next, they drive to the mortuary to look at the body. As they walk into the office, a man says "Can I help you?" Friday says "Police Officers. We'd like to talk to Mr. Latimore, the deputy coroner". The man says "I'm Latimore. Are you here about the hit and run victim?" Friday says "Yes, we need to take a look". As they walk to the area where the body is kept, Latimore says "It's an unusual case". Friday asks "Why do you say it's unusual, Mr. Latimore?" He says "The fractures and wounds are not generally consistent with a hit and run case".

Saturday Mar 07, 2026
Saturday Mar 07, 2026
It is night again in Chicago, and Randy Stone, Night Beat reporter for the Chicago Star, is on the city streets looking for a story. On this night, Randy found myself in a quiet section of the residential district. He wondered about the people living in the area. Who were they, and what were their problems? Randy kept walking. Soon, an older man bumps into Randy on the sidewalk. The old man says "I beg your pardon". Randy says "Oh, yes". The older man says " I hesitate to bother you, sir, but do you have a match?" Randy says "I have a lighter. Will that do? The older man says "Thank you". As Randy lights his cigarette and starts to walk away, the older man says "Oh, uh, just a moment". Randy asks "What's the matter, Pop?" He says "Please, put your hands up". Randy says "What?" The older man says "I'm not joking. I have a gun". Randy says "Oh, I see it. The old man says "I warn you. I'll shoot if you try anything" Randy says Well, rule number one, when facing a stickup man who's obviously pulling his first job, be very careful". Old man says "It's not my first. Hand me your wallet". Randy says "What? With my hands in the air?" Old man says "Well, put them down. But remember what I said". Randy says "Sure. Why is a nice looking old man like you doing this?" Old man says "Stop talking and hand me your wallet". Randy says "Alright, here". Old man says " Now, turn around, face the wall, and don't try to follow me". Randy says "Pop, hand me the gun and tell me all about it". Old man says "Don't come toward me". Randy says "The gun, Pop. Hand it over. We'll have a talk. Maybe over a cup of coffee". Old man says "Stay away, I said". Randy gets closer, and the old man fires a shot!

The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes - The Blanched Soldier
Saturday Mar 07, 2026
Saturday Mar 07, 2026
As Dr. Watson and his new bride, Mary, are on their honeymoon, Sherlock Holmes is meeting with young man named James Dodd, who was telling him about the disappearance of his friend, Godfrey Emsworth. James had recently returned home from the Second Boer War, where he and Godfrey served in the Imperial Yeomanry during the South African campaign. James says "Godfrey Emsworth was my mate almost from the moment I joined the squadron". Holmes says "He is Colonel Emsworth's son? Dodd says "His only child. He had same fighting blood as the old man. After the Boers gave us a year of hard fighting, one day there was an action by Diamond Hill, outside Pretoria. Godfrey was shot with an elephant gun". Holmes says "And you?" James says "I wasn't there. Godfrey and a couple of others had gone on ahead of us and gotten lost". Holmes says "But Emsworth wasn't killed". James says "Oh no. I had a letter from him from the hospital in Cape Town. Then, one from Southampton when he'd been shipped back home to England. But, since then, Mr. Holmes, never a word. Not for six months and more". Holmes says "And you can see no reason ...." James says "Mr. Holmes, he was my closest pal". Holmes says " I take it that it was not at Colonel Emsworth's invitation that you went to the Emsworth's home, Tuxbury Old Park". James says "No, Godfrey's mother. She's a gentle woman. She sent me a quite amiable reply to my letter to her". Holmes says "You wrote to Colonel Emsworth first". James says "Certainly, I observed polite convention as you would expect, but received no reply from him. Later, I accepted Mrs. Emsworth's invitation to visit. At dinner, Mrs. Emsworth questioned me eagerly about her son, of course". Holmes says "But you learned nothing from her?" James says "Not with the old man present at table. Later, in my room, I questioned the Emsworth's butler, Ralph, about Godfrey. He was reluctant to say anything, but I insisted. I told him that I must know. Is Godfrey dead? Ralph said I wish to God he was".

Dangerous Assignment - Atomic Fission Formula
Friday Mar 06, 2026
Friday Mar 06, 2026
Walking into the Commissioner's office, Agent Steve Mitchell says "Good morning, Commissioner. Ruth said you wanted to see me". Commissioner says "I do, Steve. You can start this assignment by painting a nice big bullseye on your chest". Steve says "Oh fine. What's the deal flying to Java to look for a little piece of paper?" Commissioner says "This is no ordinary piece of paper, Steve. It contains a new formula for atomic fission, stolen from this country". Steve says "Right, well what makes you think it's in Java?" Commissioner says "The night before last, the man was killed in Java. The authorities there found half the formula on his body". Steve asks "What do you mean half of it?" Commissioner says "The formula is in two parts, Steve. Whoever stole it didn't realize that and only got half. He probably figured on making a fortune out of it on the open market, but he must realize by now that one half is worthless without the other". Steve says "In that case, he'll probably try and get that other half. Where is it?" Commissioner says "In the custody of a British intelligence agent named Snell, in Surabaya, Java". Steve says "That's the routine you were giving me about painting a bullseye on my chest". Commissioner says "You are to go to Java, openly, Steve. Get the envelope from Snell and then return". Steve says "And in that envelope is the other half of the formula?" Commissioner says "No, we're not taking any chances. In that envelope will be a blank piece of paper, but we want whoever's interested to think it's the formula". Steve says "Oh swell. You don't want to take any chances, huh? Just with my life". Commissioner says "It stands to reason that whoever has the missing half will come after you. I'm not going to minimize the danger, Steve. From the moment you leave Snell's house in Java, you're a marked man. But, this is the quickest way to smoke the opposition out into the open. We've got to get that missing half back. Well, that's it. You've got your assignment, good luck".

The Adventures of the Falcon - The Case of the Big Talker
Thursday Mar 05, 2026
Thursday Mar 05, 2026
It's Sunday evening in New York City and three men, Joe Greco, Danny Bell, and William Palmer, are sitting together in the rear booth of The Pelican Club, From the deference accorded Mr. Palmer, it's obvious who is the leader of this group. Palmer says "Well, of course, the big thing in our favor is the element of surprise. Weber has had everything his own way for so long, he won't be expecting any opposition". Bell says "Yeah, that's smart operating, Palmer. We pulled the same deal in St. Louis" Palmer says "Oh did you, Danny?" He says "Oh sure. I just walked into this guy's place and gave him twenty fours hours to leave". Palmer says "Uh-huh, and what happened?" Bell says "He was gone in four hours". Palmer says "They play awfully rough in St. Louis, don't they?" Bell says "Yeah, you're not kidding". Greco says "Maybe this league won't be fast enough for him, Boss". Palmer says "There's always that possibility". Bell says "Well, I remember one time ...." Palmer says "As much as I'd love to hear you reminisce, Danny, I'm afraid it's getting late". Bell says "Oh, that's okay. Just remind me to tell you sometime about Lefty Wilson". Palmer says "I'll make a note of it. But, getting back to Weber ...." Bell says "You don't have to draw me a diagram, Palmer. I got the picture already. This Weber gets the big gambling play from the society crowd and you want it". Palmer says "Very much so". Bell says "Okay I'll have a little talk with the man". Palmer says "Oh, I don't doubt that you're a brilliant conversationalist, Danny, but Mr. Weber is also gifted. And let's assume that nothing you say moves him. So, what's your next step?" Bell says "Well we, uh, we take over". Palmer says "You see, Greco. Nothing baffles him". Bell says "Ah, sure. It's as simple as falling off a log". Palmer says "Wonderful. When can we expect this eviction to take place?" Bell says "Hey, now wait a minute, I'm a newcomer in town". Palmer says "Oh, I've got news for you, Danny. The people in New York are exactly like those in St. Louis. They eat, they sleep, they breathe, and a little .38 caliber slug can stop all those vital functions".

Tales of the Texas Rangers - Blood Relative
Thursday Mar 05, 2026
Thursday Mar 05, 2026
It is 4:00 PM, June 26th. Will Bonner, the proprietor the general store at Stump Hill, Texas, is waiting on a customer named Mac Kennedy, a local dirt farmer. Will is getting his order ready. He says "Eight pounds of flour and the bacon, Mac. Anything else?" Mac says "Yeah, a carton of cigarettes". Will says "Yeah, how about making it a couple of sacks of tobacco?" Mac says "What's the matter, Will? My credit no good anymore?" Will says "Mac, I think you ought to pull in your horns a little. Your bill's run kind of high". Mac says "You get your money, don't you?" Will says "It ain't a question of getting it, Mac. You stand to make a good crop this year. The less you have to pay out, the better chance you'll have to get on your feet permanent, without no credit". Just then, a young man walks into the store and comes toward the counter. Mac says "Let me let me worry about .... well, go ahead wait on him". The young man says "It's alright, I got time". Will says "No, no, I'll take care of you, stranger. What will have?" The young man says "Stranger? Time ain't helping your sight any is it, Uncle Will?" He says "Ben! Dang it boy, you've changed! How do you like that. I didn't recognize my own blood relative". Will yells toward the back of the store "Hey Liz, come see who's here". She comes up to the counter and says "Why, it's your brother's boy, Ben!" Will says "It sure is". Liz says "Ben, you know about your father?" Ben says "I know he's dead". Will says "Being glad to see you, Ben, I almost forgot. It happened last winter". Liz says "The pneumonia". Will says "Yeah, we tried to locate you, boy, but nobody knew where you was". Ben says "Nobody would have wanted to know. I was in the pen at Huntsville. That's where I've been for four years". Will says "Oh, well I guess we can talk that over later. You want to stay? There's a place here for you ..." Ben says "I ain't asking you for nothing, except what's coming to me. I just want you buy out my paw's share of the store and pay me off". Will says "Ben, your paw never did have a share in the store".

Michael Shayne, Private Detective - The Missing Body
Wednesday Mar 04, 2026
Wednesday Mar 04, 2026
It's just before noon on a bright but blustery day in San Francisco. Mike Shane and his associate, Phyllis Knight, are discussing crime and detection with the Inspector of the Homicide Department, who has come to take them to lunch. Mike says "You see, Inspector, I'm not criticizing the police department when I say that I'm not bound by the rules that, well you for instance, are bound. The Inspector says "I realize that, Mike. I have to be pretty sure of my ground before I make an arrest. I have to have evidence enough to convince the District Attorney, and he has to have reasonable prospects of obtaining a conviction before he goes to the grand jury". Phyllis says "Plus the fact that you, Inspector, can be sued for wrongful arrest whereas we Mike and I never arrest anybody. We pass the buck to you". During the discussion, the telephone starts ringing. Phyllis answers and says "Michael Shane, Private Detective Agency". The Sergeant on the line says "Hi Phil. Is the Inspector there?" Phyllis says "Sure thing, Sergeant. For you, Inspector". He says "Uh-oh, hope this doesn't break our lunch date. Hello, Sergeant". The Sergeant says "We have a report of a homicide, Inspector. A man named Porter called and said he found a body at 323 Foothill Road". Inspector asks "Any idea who the murdered man is?" Sergeant says "Porter said the man's name was Beatty. He didn't give much more information. He seemed pretty upset". Inspector says "Okay Sergeant, I'll meet you there as soon as I can". Mike and Phyllis go with the Inspector. Once they reach the apartments, they see a man standing on the steps. Inspector asks "Are you Mr. Porter?" He says "Yes, I've been pacing up and down these steps waiting. I thought you'd never come". Inspector asks "Where's the body?" Porter says "Upstairs on the couch in his living room". Inspector says "This isn't your house, then?" Porter says "No, this is Mr. Beatty's house". As they enter, the Inspector says "There's no body on this couch". Porter says "But, he was there!"

Broadway is My Beat - The Joe Gruber Murder Case
Wednesday Mar 04, 2026
Wednesday Mar 04, 2026
Detective Danny Clover and Detective Muggerman are currently on a stakeout in front of an apartment house in the West 80s. The stakeout is for an armed robber who had shot a bystander to death, ran across roofs, and down alleys. He was finally trapped. Muggerman says "He's hold up on the second floor, Danny, in an empty apartment. Ready?" Danny says "Let's go". As they walk toward the entrance, Danny asks "Are all the other tenants cleared out?" Muggerman says "Uh-huh. Had a little trouble with the people in 2B". Danny asks "How come?" Muggerman says "The people there are named Morgan. Their grandmother died, and they were having her funeral in there. We got all the mourners out. They were in the apartment right next to the one our killer's in, 2A". Danny asks "You sure he's in there?" Muggerman says "Probably him, Danny. The description fits". Danny says "Let's find out". Danny knocks on the door and says "Open up. This is the police". After getting no response, Danny tells Muggerman to kick in the door. Once inside, Muggerman says "Those windows over there, Danny, are open. The screen's been kicked out. Come on". They get to the window, and Danny says "The killer left this apartment in a hurry". Muggerman says "Uh-huh. These windows lead to a fire escape. He could have gone out this window, onto the fire escape, and into the next apartment". Danny says "Let's find out". They walk on the fire escape to the window of apartment 2A. Danny says "Yeah. He must have done it this way. The screens on this apartment have been knocked out, too. Let's go inside and see". Muggerman says "This is the Morgan apartment, Danny. Where is the Morgan grandmother? You want me to look around?" Danny says "Yeah, for appearances, Muggerman. I'm guessing our man walked out with the mourners and got lost".

Nick Carter, Master Detective - Death Behind the Scenes
Tuesday Mar 03, 2026
Tuesday Mar 03, 2026
Charles Forest is directing a rehearsal of his new play, "Lord Byron", backstage at the Republic Theater. The actors are rehearsing their lines and waiting for the appearance of Paul Wymar, a famous actor from the European stage. Wymar has missed his cue and is hurrying to the stage. Just as he appears, a sandbag falls to the stage floor, narrowly missing him. Forest says "Paul, what happened?" Wymar says "It's happened again. Another accident. Someone tried to kill me. This time it's a sandbag. It almost fell on my head". Forest yells up to the stage hand "What's going on up there? He says "Sorry, Mr. Forest, The line holding the sandbag must have come untied. I'll take care of it". Wymar says "I give up. Things break when I sit in them. Things fall over on me. And now this bag drops on my head". Forest says "I'm sure it was an accident, Paul. Come on, let's get on with this scene. We open in three days". Wymar says "No, I do not open in three days. I'm through!" Forest says "Look, Paul, you can't quit on me now. It's too late. We're almost ready to open". Wymar says "I will not stay here and get killed". Forest says "Paul, suppose I get Nick Carter to come down here and find out what's going on. He can stop all these accidents you've been having. Will that satisfy you?" Wymar says "You will get the great Nick Carter to make an investigation?" Forest says "I will if you'll stay with me. He'll see that nothing more happens to you. Will you get to work if I get Carter down here, Paul?" Wymar says "Very well. I will try it once more, but if there are any more of these accidents that nearly kill me, I shall go home and stay there, Carter or no Carter". A short while later, Nick and Patsy arrive at the Republic Theater. Forest tells them "Ever since we started rehearsals, it's been one accident after another for Wymar. One time a heavy door almost fell on him. Another time a chair he was sitting in collapsed, sending him to the hospital for three days. Today, the final straw, a heavy sandbag counterweight fell almost on top of him as he crossed the stage".

Walk Softly, Peter Troy - A Flight of Fancy
Tuesday Mar 03, 2026
Tuesday Mar 03, 2026
Julie walks into Peter Troy's office and says "Miss Lightly is here for her appointment, Pete". He says "Miss Lightly?" Julie says "She rang yesterday". Peter says "Oh yeah. Hey, what's she like?" Julie says "Well, I brought my notebook with me". Peter says "Your notebook? What's that gonna do .... Oh, I get it. You're staying for the interview". Julie says "I most certainly am". Peter says "She's that good, huh?" Julie says "Better than that. And I'm telling you, Peter Troy, you better watch ...." Peter says "Oh Julie, just give me a chance to stick my neck out before you clobber me, will you? That bit comes later". Julie says "I'll show Miss Lightly in". Julie steps outside the office and says "Will you come in, please?" She says "Thank you. Good morning, Mr. Troy, I'm Raya Lightly". Peter says "How was that again?" She says "As in sunshine you know, Raya Sunshine". Peter says "Oh, I get it. Yeah, that's very funny". Raya says "I'm glad you think so. Most people just groan. It's my mother's fault, she had rather a corny sense of humor". Peter says "Oh she did?" Raya says "Yes, when I was born, I was so ugly, that she took one look at me and laughed for three days. Then she insisted on calling me Raya, since our surname is Lightly. Ray of light, you know". Julie says "Why don't you sit down, Miss Lightly, here". Peter says "Well, you may have been ugly when you were born, Miss Lightly, but, oh brother, there have been some changes made since then". Raya says "What?.. Oh, oh I see. Well, thank you". Julie clears her throat a few times. Peter asks "Is something wrong, Miss Summers?" Julie says "Something's stuck in my throat, Mr. Troy. I find some things a bit hard to swallow, you know?" Peter says "I know. Well, Miss Lightly, what's your trouble?" Raya says "It's my father. I'm worried about him. You see, he's an inventor and rather wealthy. Now, he's appointed an assistant, a young man whom I don't trust. My father's so vague about things that a child could rob him blind."

Mr. and Mrs. North - Checkmate
Tuesday Mar 03, 2026
Tuesday Mar 03, 2026
Henry Myers is calling his wife, Tina, at their home with good news. He says "Tina, listen to me very carefully. I have a job! I'll be right home to tell you about it! Tell our son, Stanley. He'll be pleased". Tina says "Oh, yes I will!" After hanging up the phone, she hurries down the hall and excitedly opens Stanley's bedroom door. Stanley says "For Pete's sake, Ma, do you have to bust in like that? Can't you see I'm busy?" Tina says "Stanley, your father has a job!" Stanley says "Well, what do you know". Tina says "Aren't you pleased?" Stanley says "What for? It took him long enough to land something, didn't it? How long has he been on the rocks? A year? Eighteen months?" Tina says "Most of that time he was in the sanatorium, you know that. He hasn't been home for long". Stanley says "Alright, Ma. What kind of a job is it?" Tina says "Well, I don't know. He will be here soon. He hoped you would be pleased, too". Stanley says "Yeah, I am. Now he won't be coming to me for dough all the time". Later, as the family is sitting down to dinner, Henry says "the name of the company is the Checkmate Corporation". Tina asks "Checkmate, is that a good company, Henry?" He says "It's a big company, Tina, they make machines that write checks automatically". Stanley says "Oh sure, I've heard of them". Henry says "Very good machines. Every check is stamped with little perforations and special markings to insure against forgery. You know what i mean, Stanley?" He says "Yeah, it's a good machine. What's your salary?" Henry says "There is no salary. I sell the machines for commissions. Mr. Martin at the company spent all day with me. He showed me all about the machine and explained to me the sales technique. We show the customer how easy it is to duplicate their signature by turning it upside down and slowly tracing it. When it's upside down, it is just a series of scribbles, not letters". Stanley says "Hey, that's not bad. You're bound to make money, Pa, one way or another".

He says "What the ...." Omak says "I wanted to see you before you left San Francisco". Trafford says "Hey, who are you and how did you get into my hotel room?" Omak says "What's the difference?" Trafford says "I'll call the manager!" Omak says "Drop that phone, Trafford". He hangs it up, and Omak says "That's better". Trafford says "What is this? What's that gun for? What do you want?" Omak says "I want that briefcase you're carrying". Trafford says "What?" Omak says "The briefcase. Hand it over and you won't get hurt". Trafford says "I'll do no such thing, you hear me? You won't get away with this". Omak says "Shut up. Sit down in that chair. We'll just tie you up so you won't make no fuss while we're blowing out of here". Trafford says "Why are you doing this? Just why?" Omak says "For dough, what else? I don't know what's inside this thing, but certain people are willing to pay plenty to find out". Meanwhile, Mitchell Monroe has just returned to San Francisco on a ship from across the Pacific. As he exits the ship, he finds Elise Pomeroy in a waiting taxi. She says "Well, Mitchell, you glad to be back in San Francisco again, or is that a foolish question?" Mitchell says "In view of being met at the boat by you, love, let's say it's a superfluous one". Elise says "Darling, always the appropriate sentiment". Mitchell says "Well, the Orient has its fascination, Elise, but it does not have you". Elise says "I hope it was dull, of course". Mitchell says "Oh, business was quite good, but nothing else. And speaking of business, how is our little curio shop?" Elise says "Excellent, darling. I'm expecting an interesting shipment soon". In a few minutes, their taxi arrives that their curio shop and they are met by their employee, Dorian. Elise asks her "Were there any messages while I was gone?" Dorian says "No, Miss Pomeroy, but there's a man waiting to see you in your office. His name is Mr. Omak".

Whitehall 1212 - Case of the Homemade Handbag
Monday Mar 02, 2026
Monday Mar 02, 2026
A young woman was found dead by the local milkman near Maidstone in Kent on a chilly October morning. The Chief Constable of Kent requested assistance from Scotland Yard, and Sergeant Paul Moore was assigned. When Moore arrived, he was directed by the police constable at the scene of the discovery to the local mortuary. There, Moore met Sergeant Miles Bouley of the Kent Constabulary. Bouley says "Oh yes, Sergeant Moore. Glad to see you. We didn't expect you so quickly. Well, like to come in and have a look at her?" Moore says "I haven't had my breakfast yet". Bouley says "Oh, she's not going to upset you. Very clean. Strangling job". Moore asks "Oh, how long have you had her?" Bouley says "Let's see. It's 7:44 now. About two hours ago, just on sunrise. The milkman on his rounds saw her lying beside the road". Bouley leads Moore to the room where she is located, and says "This is the lady". Moore says "She was pretty". Bouley says "You see, it looks as if a scarf or something of the like had been twisted around her neck". Moore says "The medical examiner hasn't been here yet, huh?" Bouley says "Not yet". Moore asks "Any ideas who she was?" Bouley says "Not the foggiest". Moore says "She had nothing to identify her?" Bouley says "Not a bloody thing". Moore asks "What have we done?" Bouley says "Well, we have a man out there where she was found, trying to find something. Perhaps you'd like to go out there?" Moore says "Yes, I think so". They traveled back to the scene where the body was found. After an extensive search, they found only her missing shoe, nothing else. Later, the medical examiner gave them his report at the Maidstone Police Station. He says "Well, there isn't a great deal to the report. Death was due to strangulation, of course, apparently by cloth of some kind, a scarf or neck cloth perhaps. However, there is one curious circumstance which may have an effect on the investigation, Sergeant. Judging by conditions indicated, without an autopsy, the body of the young woman was held in an upright position for some time after death".

The Line-Up - Lorraine Oberhauser Murder
Sunday Mar 01, 2026
Sunday Mar 01, 2026
A woman without identification, "Jane Doe" is currently in the hospital as a result of receiving several gunshot wounds. She was wearing a mink coat at the time of the incident. Sergeant Graham picks up an elderly witness to the crime, Mrs. Jennings, at her home and brings her to the police station for the line-up. She is met by Lieutenant Ben Guthrie, who escorts her to the viewing area. Guthrie says "Mrs. Jennings, our man probably won't be any of these but we have to cover every possibility". Mrs. Jennings asks "How is that poor girl?" Guthrie says "About the same". Mrs. Jennings says "Oh, such a terrible thing". Seeing someone in the viewing audience, she asks "Is he a criminal?" Guthrie laughs and says "None of the suspects are down here, Mrs. Jennings. They will be up on the stage. That's Captain Deveraux from the Narcotics Squad". As he normally does, Sergeant Matt Grebb starts the line-up procedure. Later, Grebb, in Guthrie's office, asks "Did Mrs. Jennings spot anyone?" Guthrie says "No, but she's coming back tomorrow to try again". Grebb says "That's too bad she didn't get the license number. How's Asher doing? Is there any identification on our Jane Doe?" Guthrie says "Not yet, he's looking into the clothes labels and laundry marks. He is also running her fingerprints through the database". Grebb says "Well, maybe she'll regain consciousness long enough to tell us who she is". Guthrie says "Dr. Gordon said he let me know if there was any change". As Sergeant Quine walks into Guthrie's office, Grebb says "Quine, just the man I need to see. Guthrie is feeling tired today and he needs his neck adjusted". As they are trying to convince him to do it, Guthrie receives a phone call. He tells Grebb and Quine "Asher has found the identification of their Jane Doe. She had worked in a defense plant for a while and was on file with the bureau. Her name's Lorraine Oberhauser. Asher is at her apartment".

The Chase - The Hold Up
Saturday Feb 28, 2026
Saturday Feb 28, 2026
Matthew Doyle is conferring with his lawyer, Mr. Johnson, about his current situation. Johnson says "Mr. Doyle, you understand that I can't prepare a proper defense unless you tell me everything". Doyle says "I understand, believe me. Just tell me what you need to know. I won't hold anything back". Johnson says "Alright, I want to know how you got involved in this thing. Oh, I don't mean the money angle. I can understand anyone wanting more money, but, how ...." Doyle says "How could a small fry like me get tied up with a big man like Elliot Barnes?" Johnson says "I guess that's it. You were originally just one of the accountants there, weren't you?" Doyle says "Yes, just one of three". Johnson says "And then in a period of 18 months ...." Doyle says "I was Vice President of the company". Johnson says "Yes, how did it happen? How or why, Mr. Doyle?" He says "Why? I wanted to get ahead. I guess there's one time for everybody. When there's a chance to get ahead, the easy way, you've got a choice. Stay where you are for the rest of your life, skimping and saving, or take what you want, like Elliot Barnes". Johnson says "Yes, that's it. Go ahead please". Doyle says "Well, I got that chance 18 months ago. I was wrong to take it. I know that now. I did fight it for a while, but it looked too good, too easy. Every time I went over my account books, I realized I was on to something big. I kept saying to myself, go to the police and tell them. It's the honest thing to do. But, I didn't go to the police. I went to Mr. Barnes's office instead. I told his secretary that I needed to see Mr. Barnes on a personal matter. Inside his office, Barnes says "The question of raises is handled by Mr. Heller. The question of working conditions is handled by ,,,," Doyle says "I didn't come to talk about a raise, Mr. Barnes. I came to talk to you about the Bridgetown Supply Company. I know who owns that company and why it was organized. I know it is only a front for an empty warehouse on River Street.

Lux Radio Theater - I Confess
Saturday Feb 28, 2026
Saturday Feb 28, 2026
At night, the venerable city of Quebec in the moonlight, the narrow cobblestone streets are all but deserted. A man, wearing the cassock of a priest, has darted into the rectory of a church. He sheds the cassock and now he enters the church itself. A voice from inside says "Who is it? Who's there? The man says "It's Father Logan". The voice says "Oh, Father Logan, I did not recognize you in the dark". Logan asks "Is that you, Keller?" He says "Yes, Father". Logan asks "What are you doing here this time of night?" Keller says "I came in to pray". Logan asks "Is something wrong? Can I help you?" Keller says "No one can help me. I have abused your kindness". Logan asks "How?" Keller says "You, who gave my wife and me a home here, right with the church a job, even friendship, to me, a refugee, a German. Now you will hate me". Logan says "Oh no, I don't hate anyone, Keller". He says "You will. You will hate me but it was for her, for my wife. She works so hard, Father. It breaks my heart". Logan asks "Keller, what is it?" He says "I must confess to you. I want to make a confession. Logan says "Alright, we'll go to the confessional". Keller says "Yes, I want you to hear my confession". In the confessional, Logan says "So, you've been to the house of Mr. Villette. Go on, Keller". He says "Yes, Villette the lawyer. I killed Mr. Villette! I went to steal his money. I wore a cassock. If anyone saw me, they would think I was a priest. I was looking for the money when Villette surprised me. I did not mean to kill him. You must believe me, Father. I did not mean to kill him". Later, in his room, Keller tells his wife, Alma, what he did. She says "No, no, you didn't do it, Otto. You did not kill him". Keller says "I have just come from confession. Father Logan is my priest, and you are my wife. It is right that you should also know". Alma says "But why, Otto, why?" Keller says "I am not a murderer. It was an accident. It was the money. How could I watch you work so hard? I lie awake night after night and I think all we need is 2,000 dollars to start a new life". Alma says "Father Logan will go to the police. He will tell them". Keller says "He will not tell them. He cannot tell them anything he heard in the confessional".

Let George Do It - Big Brother
Friday Feb 27, 2026
Friday Feb 27, 2026
George Valentine receives a letter that reads "My dear Mr. Valentine, my name is Lou Mendel. I own a nightclub, the Club Top Hat, which I'm sure if you've ever been there, you'll admit is a very high class place. It's not the type place where we have any trouble, and everything is strictly above the board, which is where you fit into the picture puzzle, Mr. Valentine. There is this girl whose name is Dove. She's a new dancer on account of she can't dance, but I like to be big-hearted. But as of today, my big heart has got me nothing but a blow on the head. This is the essence of the puzzle. Who hit me? Even more important is what about Dove? She is somehow in the middle of the trouble, and for such a nice girl, I don't like it. Oh yes, this is a lot more than just what you may be thinking, because poor little Dove, you understand, looks upon me as her big brother". George and Brooksie make the trip to the Club Top Hat. In their meeting, Brooksie asks "And how do you look upon her, Mr. Mendel?" He says "What's the matter with me? You think I'm inhuman?" George says "Well, if she was the third girl from the left, I'd say..." Mendel says "Never mind, never mind. You'd say the wrong things anyway. To me, she's nothing, except I think I should help". George says "You think she's in trouble?" Mendel says "I do not think very much, but there are some things I know. Oh, here, here. Dressing rooms are down this way". As they are going toward the dressing rooms, they encounter a man named Andrew holding a bouquet of flowers. He sees them and says "Oh, hello". Mendel says "Oh, good evening, sir. I think perhaps you're in the wrong place. If you were looking for the check room or the... " Brooksie says "Oh, no, he's not, Mr. Mendel. Oh, what beautiful flowers". Andrew says "Oh, yes. Thank you. I'm sorry I was in your way. I'm just waiting, that's all". George says "Not at all. Haven't I seen you someplace before?" Andrew says "Oh, no, sir. No, I'm quite certain. No, sir". Mendel says "Stage Door Johnny".

In a waterfront bar, Shelia Drusack has been having drinks with a man who is the first mate of the Calcutta, a cargo ship that had just recently arrived in port. The first mate says "Hey, you know what else I think you got, Cutie?" Shelia says "What?" He says "I think you've got the cutest face in port, and I'm an authority". Shelia says "I'll bet you are, handsome". He says "Yes sir, the cutest face and the cutest figure. And what else I think you got, is an empty glass and so have I. Hey, bartender, a little service over here". Shelia says "No more drinks, honey. The joint's closing up". He says "Closing up? Well, how do you like that? Just when you and me were getting real acquainted" Shelia says "Of course, if you're not too tired, we could always go to my place". He says "Huh?" Shelia says "I've got a bottle, and no special closing time". First mate says "Hey, you mean it baby? You wouldn't kid a guy just off his ship? Shelia asks "Do I look like the kind of girl who would kid a guy?" He laughs and says "You know what? You're okay. Come on, let's go". Shelia says "Alright, you wait here a minute. I've got to make a phone call". He says "A phone call?" Shelia says "My roommate, just to make sure she's not home". He says "Oh, go ahead. You got a dime?" Shelia says "Yes. Are you sure you're not tired now?" He says "I've never felt more wide awake in my life, so help me. Go ahead go ahead make your call". Shelia says "It won't be a minute. Don't go away now". He says "Not for a million bucks, Cutie. I'll be right here". Shelia goes over to the phone booth, and dials a number. A man answers and says "Hello?" Shelia says "Hello, Marty. I'm calling from a bar. I'll have to talk quiet. Is Mr. Rieber there?" Marty says "He's here with me". Shelia says "Alright, tell him I'm with the first mate of the Calcutta. They docked tonight. Their cargo is burlap, jute, and, hold your breath, thirty pounds of pure opium". Marty asks "You sure?" Shelia says "Have I been wrong yet?" Marty asks "Where on the ship?" Shelia says "I don't know, but I will before the evening's out". Marty asks "You want the apartment?" Shelia says "Yeah, also the knockout pills".

Victor Kennedy, along with his guide, Pepe Galvan, are sitting in a bar in Talca, Chile, waiting for a meeting with an informer named Perez, who should have some information as to the whereabouts of Arthur Madsen. Madsen has escaped into South America with 100,000 dollars of the bank's money, and Vic has been searching for him for about a year. Vic says "He's an hour late now, where is he?" Pepe says "Perez will be here. I watch with great care, he has not come in yet. Trust me, senor." Vic says "You're sure you know him?" Pepe says "I know Perez, senor". Suddenly, a woman screams! The entire bar gets quiet. Vic says "That's fine, all we need now is a beef. Go see what it's all about". Pepe sees that a man has been stabbed. He says "Senor Kennedy come here quickly". Vic says "What is it?" Pepe says "Look senor, there on the floor. He is dead". Vic says "That knife's got him pinned to the floor". Pepe says "I'm sorry for your sake, senor". Vic asks "What are you talking about?" Pepe says "The dead one. He is the one you are waiting for. He is Perez". A woman comes up to Vic and says "What happened?" Vic says "Forget it". She says "I've got to see". Vic says "You wouldn't want to. It used to be a man named Perez". She says "Listen, get me out of here now. I can't be found here". Vic says "Pepe, wait here for me. Come on lady, stay close to me". She follows Vic out the door and to a cab. She gets in and says to Vic "Aren't you coming?" Vic says "No, no you'll be all right. Cops will be here in a few minutes. They'll have a lot of questions". She says "Will you tell the driver to take me to the Cuevas Hotel?" Vic tells the driver in Spanish, then says to the woman "I'm at the Royale. Call me in an hour". She says "Who will I ask for?" He says "Kennedy, Vic Kennedy". She says "My turn. I'm Eve. Eve Coleman". Vic says "You'll call?" Eve says "In an hour". Dr. Richard Martinson, of Glasgow, loved to give lectures, sometimes with pictures and slides of places where he said he'd been. Once, he gave a lecture about the beautiful Isle of Capri in the Mediterranean. He said it is the loveliest island of all the seven seas, with its blue waters and picturesque coastline. He had the soul of a poet, apparently, this Dr. Martinson, and he was also, according to himself, a great lover of liberty. He also said he knew Giuseppe Garibaldi, the great Italian general and revolutionary, whose courage was as great as man's can be. Martinson claimed that Garibaldi gave him his walking stick as a token of the high esteem in which he held him. Altogether, Martinson was a remarkable man, at least in his own eyes. Of course, there were those in Glasgow who were skeptical, perhaps with reason. Some said that he had never been out of the British Isles, except for a week in Paris. Others said that his stories about Garibaldi were nonsense. These discussions about his veracity didn't exactly help Dr. Martinson's practice, which in fact, was a pity, as the doctor's wife, Sylvia, was chronically ill. Martinson says "And how are we today, Sylvia, my dear?" She says "Oh, as well as I can expect, Richard". He asks "Have you had anything to eat today?" She says "I don't have any appetite, you know that". He says "The tonic I gave you is to stimulate your appetite, dear". She says "Oh, I can't abide the tonic, Richard. I'm sorry, but I can't". As Sylvia's condition worsened, Mrs. Toomy, Sylvia's mother, came to stay. Mrs. Toomy says "Richard, I don't believe you're giving Sylvia proper attention". Richard says "Why Mother Toomy, she's getting the best medical care available". Mrs. Toomy says "And she still won't eat. I've made up my mind, Richard. I'm taking over where Sylvia is concerned. First thing necessary is strength". Mrs. Toomy makes tapioca for her daughter, and tries to get her to eat it, but has no success. Mrs. Toomy ends up eating it herself. Later, Evelyn, the Martinson's maid, runs to the doctor and says "Oh, Doctor, she's taken so sick". Richard says "Who, my wife?" Evelyn says "Oh, no, sir. It's Mrs. Toomey. She's taken dreadfully sick".

One of the showplaces of the city is the mansion of multimillionaire Bradford Randall. In the richly furnished library of this mansion at eight o'clock in the evening, Randall, his daughter Agatha, and a dapper handsome man face each other. Agatha says "This is one time, Father, that you're not going to have your own way. I've made up my mind to marry Giuseppe, and that is that". Bradford says "Oh, no, Agatha. You think you're going to make this gigolo my son-in-law?" Giuseppe Renova says "Don't call me a gigolo, Mr. Randall" Bradford says "Oh, then what are you?" Renova says "I'm a man of honor who comes to you like a gentleman and asks for your daughter to be my wife. And for that, I'm insulted". Bradford asks "How much money have you got, Mr. Renova?" He says "I am Count Renova". Bradford says "Alright, Count. But answer my question". The Count says "Money is not everything". Bradford says "Ah, well, you're not finding a soft spot with me". Agatha says "Father, I won't let you". Bradford says "Shut up, Agatha. Now then, Count Renova, you get out of here, and stay out". Agatha says "If he goes, I go with him". Bradford says "If you do anything foolish, Agatha, you'll regret it. And so will your boyfriend. To convince you both that I mean business, I'm going to make out a new will tomorrow that will cut off Agatha with the minimum request allowed by law". Agatha says "Father!" Bradford says "You know I don't bluff, Agatha. Tomorrow morning, I'll have Devens draw up a new will. And it'll stand until you come to your senses". Agatha says "Come on, Giuseppe. Let's get out of here". Bradford says "You'll be back, my dear. And still single". Agatha says "You... Oh, I absolutely hate you". Bradford says "I'll show you I don't bluff". After they leave, Bradford calls Mr. Devens, his attorney, at his home. Bradford says "Devens, this is Bradford Randall. I've got a job for you to do first thing in the morning. No, wait a minute. You better do it tonight. I want a new will drawn up, and I want you to bring it here to me within the next couple of hours".

Tuesday Feb 24, 2026
In a small, but well furnished apartment in New York's Greenwich Village, an attractive woman in her early 30's, named Cybil Kent, is having cocktails with a handsome, young man named Roger Dalton. Roger eagerly says "This is the moment I've been waiting for Cybil. I've got terrific news for you!" Cybil says "News, Roger?" He says "I've finally landed it, Cybil, that job as a Commercial Artist with the advertising agency!" Cybil says "Roger, oh darling!" He says "That agency is one of the most important advertising firms in town! I'm to start work at the beginning of the week. And it's all thanks to you, Cybil". She says "Roger, that's wonderful because it means that now, at last, we can go ahead with our plans". Roger says "What? What do you mean, Cybil?" She says "Oh Roger, darling, do I have to say it? Our understanding was that as soon as you graduated from art school, and got a job, we'd be married". Roger says "Great Scott, you mean you took that seriously?" Cybil says "What? Roger you know that was our agreement". He says "But, Cybil, I never dreamt you were really serious. I always thought it was, a kind of joke between us". She says "A joke? Roger you...." He says "The fact is, I've made plans of my own. I'm going to marry Vera Langdon. That's something else I meant to tell you this evening". Cybil says "You're going to marry Vera Langdon? After all I've done for you? All the sacrifices I've made for you?" Roger says "Cybil, you've been a wonderful friend and I mean to pay you back someday". Cybil says "Pay me back? Roger Dalton, you're not throwing me over for that society girl, Vera Langdon. Not when I've done everything for you. I've spent every penny I have to put you through art school!" Roger says "Cybil, listen to me...." She says "No! You listen to me! If you leave me, I'll go to the agency where you got this job and fix things so that you'll be through for good with every agency in town! What's more, I'll go to Vera Langdon, and that wealthy father of hers, and show you up for the selfish, ruthless...." Roger says "You're not serious, are you?" Cybil says "I'll go even further, Roger, I'll kill you before I give you up to someone else! Do you hear me, Roger?"

The Adventures of Philip Marlowe - The Eager Witness
Monday Feb 23, 2026
Monday Feb 23, 2026
Philip Marlowe was serving as a witness for the prosecution of a gambler and bookie named Earl Jernigan, who was accused of the murder of a horse trainer named Kurt Hopper, who had once almost been Marlowe's client. It was the afternoon of the fourth day of the trial and the prosecutor for the state had already built an almost airtight case against the gambler when Marlowe's turn to testify finally came. The prosecutor says "To further substantiate the state's claim that Earl Jernigan did willfully and with malice or forethought take the life of the deceased Kurt Hopper. Will Mr. Philip Marlowe take the stand?" After Marlowe is sworn in, the prosecutor says "Mr. Marlowe, the day on which the late Kurt Hopper was murdered, were you hired as a private detective by the said Mr. Hopper?" Marlowe says "I was". The prosecutor says "And at that time, Mr. Marlowe, did Mr. Hopper state his reason for hiring you?" Marlowe says "He did. He wanted me to act as his personal bodyguard on the following day when he planned to drive to San Francisco". The prosecutor asks "Did he say why he needed a personal bodyguard?" Marlowe says "He did. He told me he was afraid for his life, that he refused the gambler's demand that he drug a certain racehorse a week earlier, and that gambler threatened to kill him". The prosecutor says "I see. Now, Mr. Marlowe, did Mr. Hopper name that gambler?" Marlowe says "Yes, he did". Prosecutor asks "Who was it?" Marlowe says "Earl Jernigan". Prosecutor says "Thank you. No further questions, Your Honor". The judge says "Counsel for the defense?" Jernigan's counsel says "Counsel for the defense waives cross-examination, Your Honor". The judge says "The witness is excused". As Marlowe left the stand, he thought to himself "This doesn't make sense. The Defense Counsel, a lawyer named Calder, had essentially ranted and raved at each witness the state had presented". So the courtroom was left with a tingling impression that Earl Jernigan's attorney had something of a surprise waiting up his legal sleeve.

The chief of detectives was making a statement to the press about a jewel robbery from one of the stately homes out on the hill. The chief says "Fifty thousand dollars worth of diamonds were stolen, but there doesn't seem to be any mystery about it. We knew it was an inside job, because there's no sign of forced entry. And not only that, but we found a screwdriver under a chair. It matched up with the marks on the jewel drawer where he jimmied it open. That screwdriver came out of one of the family cars. So, we started our investigation by looking at those who were employed at the home. There is a maid, a cook, a chauffeur, and a gardener. After looking up their records, we found out the chauffeur is an ex-con. He served two terms for burglary. It was as simple as A-B-C". Unfortunately for the chauffeur, who was trying to go straight, the crime was not that simple. In a small room over on First Avenue, young, tough, Sammy Copeland is pacing the floor, waiting for a business partner, Albert Easley, to return. When he shows up, Sammy says "It took you long enough. Where you been?" Albert says "Relax, Sammy. You're in the big time now. You can't just dump 50,000 dollars worth of hot diamonds like you pawn a watch. It takes a little time, some diplomacy. You have to sit down and chat with the fence for a while". Sammy asks "Did you get it?" Albert says "It's all here, right in the briefcase". Albert opens it up and says "How do you like it?" Sammy says "Yeah, look at it. 50,000 clams". Albert says "50,000? That shows your inexperience, son. There's only 30,000 here". Sammy says "30?, but you said those rocks were worth 50". Albert says "Sure they are, but you don't think the fence will give you the full value on hot rocks? He's taking a risk too. He's got to have some profit. We got 30 from him". Sammy says "Oh yeah? How do I know that?" Albert says "What do you mean?" Sammy says "How do I know you ain't got the other 20 cached out somewhere?" Albert says "Because you trust me, that's how you know. I'm going to count out your 15 thousand". Sammy says "I want more than that. I want 25 thousand".

Ken Thurston is in a meeting with his supervisor, Chief of the U.S. Intelligence Agency. The chief says "I know it sounds fantastic, Ken, but it's happened. Here's the cable from Calcutta". Ken says "The third ship in six months to leave Calcutta disappears somewhere in the bay of Bengal. I guess I better read the cable". The chief says "Later, Ken, here's the story in brief. This Muhammad Lal had been fishing in the Andaman islands and was heading north for Calcutta. Around midnight, he noticed the lights of a freighter coming from the northwest. It was still four or five miles away, when it suddenly blew up. There was a tremendous blast". Ken says "And it sank immediately. Is that it?" Chief says "Yes. By the time he reached the spot, there was only a few pieces of wreckage and this submarine". Ken says "Cruising around on the surface and machine gunning survivors. Chief, If that's true...." Chief says "Yeah. Anyway, Lal was smart enough to grab a life jacket, slip over the side of his boat, and swim away from it. A few minutes later, the sub picked up his boat in the searchlight and sank it with a couple of shells". Ken says "That's quite a story". Chief says "Listen, Lal claims he saw something in the searchlight. That sub was flying an American flag". Ken says "What? Chief, you don't suppose they're trying to use that angle now to...." Chief says "I don't know, Ken, but we've got to find out. I checked with the navy just to cover. They've got one light carrier on maneuvers in the Andaman islands, with Indian government observers aboard. No subs...." Ken says "Hiding under an American flag machine and gunning survivors". Just then, Pagon's cousin, Zagon, walks in and says "Hello, Mr. Thurston. I just happened to be... uh...oh... how do you do, Mr. Chief?" The chief says "Zagon Zeldschmitt, by heavens, when it isn't Pagon, it's cousin Zagon. He says "Oh, shoot, I guess we're just the friendly type". Ken says "I'll have Miss Brooks check the airlines, right away". The chief says "Alright, Ken, I want to get caught up on the situation as soon as possible".

Captain Frank Kennelly was working his night tour, 4:00 PM to 8:00 AM. The earlier part of the tour had been exceedingly quiet due in part to a heavy downpour of rain, which began early in the afternoon and continued until nearly 11:00 PM. A good rain keeps the troublemakers off the street. By midnight, the sky had turned clear, although the streets of the city were still wet and glistening. Kennelly was in his office taking care of some accumulated paperwork and awaiting the appearance of patrolman Daniel Ritchie, who had requested some time off for the purpose of attending to personal business in Florida in connection with his father's estate. Meanwhile, Sergeant Watters was at call box 11, talking to Lieutenant Garman. Waters says "I went up there on 1st Avenue to take a look at that condition. There's about a foot of water on the street at that spot, Lieutenant. Looks like the catch basin and the sewer is stopped up there". Just then a woman walks up to Waters at the call box and says "Excuse me, officer". Waters says "Just a second, lady". Garman asks "What did you say, Sergeant?" Waters says "A woman just walked up and was speaking to me, Lieutenant. Anyway, all the water from the rain has just hung up there, Lieutenant. I think it'd be a good idea to notify the borough president's office and have them send a crew up to clean out that catch basin". Waters finishes his call and says to the woman "Yes, ma'am. What is it?" She says "I wanted to tell you I just shot my husband". Waters says "Yeah, where at?" She says "In that house there next to the corner. I live in there". Waters asks "Where is he?" She says "Upstairs in the flat". Waters says "Alright, Let's go have a look". She says "I couldn't help it. I really couldn't". Waters gets Patrolman Tyler, who was in the petrol car while Waters was at the call box, to come with him. Waters says to Tyler "We've got a shooting, come on". Tyler says "Yes, sergeant". Waters asks the woman "What did you shoot him with?" She says "A gun". Waters says "I know it must have been a gun. What kind of gun?" She says "A shotgun, I think you call it".

Saturday Feb 21, 2026
Saturday Feb 21, 2026
Giuseppe Angelino, owner of the local butcher shop, knocks on the door to Richard's office. He says "Door's open. Well, Mr. Angelino, come in". Angelino says "I didn't know whether you were busy or not". Richard says "What's the trouble, Angelino?" He says "Well, you see, it's like this. I come to you as a sort of representative for all the other butcher shops, the independent ones. I ain't the only one that's worried. So, all the butchers got together last night and decided to do something about it". Richard says "I hate to be a nag, but do something about what?" Angelino says "We all been paying money to a protective association. Every week a couple of guys come around and collect. If we don't pay, we get our shops busted up. And if that ain't enough, we get our heads busted too. See, I still got three stitches right here on the top of my head". Richard says "Oh, nice job". Angelino says "I got these last week when those two guys come for the money. I couldn't pay, so one of them hit me with a blackjack, and knocked me out. When I came to, my shop was a mess. There was a note saying that they'd be back". Richard says "Well, you better go to the law, Angelino. They'll give you good protection and won't cost you a thing". Angelino says "We discussed that at the meeting, but we decided it was too dangerous. We've been warned that if we go to the police, we'll get hurt bad. We got the families, Mr. Diamond. We can't take the chance". Richard says "Yeah. Have these two hoods been back to see you?" Angelino says "Oh, no, they ain't been back. Not yet." Richard says "For you or a Rockefeller, my fee's the same, Angelino. One hundred clams, uh, dollars a day in expenses". Angelino says "We took up a collection. I only got a hundred dollars, but if it costs more, you can take it out in trade at any of the butcher shops. It's the only way we can pay you". Richard says "Oh, I'll throw a barbecue. Let's go, Angelino" He says "Where do we go?" Richard says "Well, you and the rest of the butchers have not only hired yourselves a private detective, you have hired yourself a new addition to the butcher's union".

Saturday Feb 21, 2026
Saturday Feb 21, 2026
Investigator Barry Craig was in his office when a man walks in. The man stares contemptuously at the rug, the furniture, and at Craig. He says "Good afternoon, Mr Craig. I am W. Stubbins". Barrie says "How do you do?" Stubbins says "I am an attorney, and I represent Arthur Philip Peterson". Barry says "You do, huh?" Stubbins says "Are you questioning my word?" Barrie says "I was just being friendly". Stubbins says "That is not necessary". Barrie says Oh, forgive me". Stubbins says "I find your levity irksome, Mr. Craig". Barrie says "There's no extra charge, Mr. Stubbins". He says "Where it not for Mr. Peterson's insistence upon hiring you.... " Barrie says "That's, uh, Arthur Phillip Peterson? You might tell me about the case instead of trying to impress me with Mr. Peterson's importance". Stubbins says "I shall. I have here a photograph of Mrs. Peterson, Stella Peterson to be precise. Also, on this paper is the address of the lodgings where Mrs. Peterson was last known to be, plus her last place of employment". Barrie says "I'm to assume that she no longer lives or works at these addresses". Stubbins says "That is correct". Barrie says "And I am to locate her?". Stubbins says "If possible". Barrie asks "How long has it been since she dropped out of sight?" Stubbins says "Oh, three months or so". Barrie says "Somebody wasn't in a hurry". Stubbins says "There were circumstances...." Barrie says "Oh, I'm sure there were. The photograph's nice and clear...." Stubbins says "I also have here a physical description of the lady, that includes her age, coloring, height, weight, and so on". Barrie says "Well, that might help but it isn't exactly what I had in mind. Hmmm, it says here she is 24. How old is Peterson?" Stubbins says "61". Barrie says "Well, now we know a lot more. How well do you know Mrs. Peterson?" Stubbins says "I barely know her at all". Barrie says "Well, in that case, I'll have to see Mr. Peterson. The descriptions are fine, but in a case like this more information is needed". Stubbins says "Seeing Mr. Peterson would do you no good". Barrie asks "Why? Is he bashful?" Stubbins says "No, he's dead".

Friday Feb 20, 2026
Friday Feb 20, 2026
Downtown at night, the lofty office buildings stand empty and quiet. Mary Margret Cannon, a sturdy middle-aged woman, has just started her nightly cleaning duties. Normally, she is a steady, hardworking, no nonsense type, but, on this Friday evening, something seems a miss. She is pale and nervous. Every now and then she stops working and just listens. After hearing something, she says "Is someone there?" Getting no answer, she quickly goes to one of the office telephones and calls her husband. She says "Hello, Terry, I'm scared". Terry says "Oh no, Mary. What are you scared of?" She says "I don't know. It's just these murders". Terry says "Murders?" Mary says "These women who've been getting killed". Terry says "I'm coming down to stay with you". Mary says "Oh, please. I'm so nervous. So jumpy. I'm so scared". Terry asks "But why?" Mary says "I just don't know... Terry?" He says "Yes?" She says "I hear someone coming". Terry says "Hey, are you sure?" Mary says "I hear someone". Terry says "I'll hang up and call the police". Mary pauses for a second and says "No, don't. It's just the guard". Terry says "You see now. Is everything okay?" Mary says "Oh, yeah. Like, you just forget I called and get your rest". They say goodbye and she hangs up the phone. Mary looks at the guard and says "Oh, good evening, Tom". As he gets closer, Mary says "You're not Tom". He says "No, I'm the new man, Mrs. Cannon". She asks "What happened to Tom?" The guard says "He called in earlier today and said he was sick. They sent me down to relieve him". Mary asks "How'd you know my name? He says "Well, Tom told me. Mary says "But...." The guard says "But, what? She says "Well, Tom doesn't know my last name any more than I know his. We're just Mary and Tom. How did you know?" He says "Why shouldn't I know your last name? You know mine". She says "How would I know your last name?" He says "It's Jackson. Remember? Little Peter Jackson?" Mary says "I never saw you before in my life". He says "Oh, yes you did. Twenty three years ago, you lived on Baxter Street, and one morning you walked into a little grocery store. Ah, now you remember". She says "What do you want? He says "I want to keep my promise".

In the Cafe Tambourine, a fat man is sitting a corner table and watching the front door, like he is expecting someone. Rocky is watching him because he knows the fat man has a gun under his coat. Chris the bartender walks by his table, holding a drink tray, and accidentally bumps into it. A leather pouch hits the floor, and what came pouring out sparkle like a kid's eyes in a candy store. The fat man says "You stupid bumbling fool". Chris says "I'm sorry mister, no harm done. Hey Rocky, come over here". Mr. Fat whips out his gun, and Rocky wrestles it away from him. The Fat man says "How dare you". Rocky says "I make all the rules here in the Tambourine, mister, and they don't include guns. Chris says "Honest, Rocky, it was just an accident. Here, I'll help you pick them up. The fat man says "Don't touch them!" He picks the diamonds up and puts them back in the leather pouch. Rocky says "Alright, mister, you got them picked up, now you know what to do". The fat man says "I suppose that no harm was done after all". Rocky says "Sure, it's past history". He says "I should apologize. I'm Sidney Hagerman. Having such such valuable gems on my person made me nervous. When they were on the floor, I automatically pulled the gun. I didn't mean anything by it". Rocky says "The next time you may automatically pull the trigger, so just move along". Sidney says "I had an appointment here". Rocky says "Not anymore, you haven't". Sidney asks "May I have my gun?" Rocky unloads it and says "Take it and get out". About 15 minutes after he leaves, An excited fellow and a nervous blonde clinging to him, walked into the Tambourine. Margarite says "Yes, I know but...." Eddie says "Hey you". Rocky says "Some folks call me that". Eddie says "Have you seen a big, fat guy?" Rocky says "Did he call himself Sidney Hagerman?" Eddie says "Yeah, that's the one". Rocky says "He's been in and out". Eddie says "Out?" Rocky says "Yeah, that was my idea".

Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar - The Blinker Matter
Wednesday Feb 18, 2026
Wednesday Feb 18, 2026
Johnny Dollar gets a call from Fred Willis at the Assurity Mutual Limited Insurance Company. Johnny says "Hi Fred, what's on your mind?" Fred says " At the moment San Francisco". Johnny says "Oh, nice town to have on your mind, what's new out there?" Fred says "That's what I hope you're going to tell me". Johnny asks "What do you mean?" Fred says "Johnny, there's an importer out there with the name of Andrew Foreman. We're carrying a 50,000 dollar policy on his life". Johnny says "So?" Fred says "So, have you ever heard of an importer getting exported?" Johnny says "I don't get you, Fred". He says "I'm afraid that's what happened to Foreman last night. He's disappeared". Johnny says "I'm on my way". On the flight from Hartford to San Francisco, Johnny studied the information he received from Fred about this case. It reads "Andrew Foreman's age is 51. His occupation is an Importer. His health is good, and judging from the hefty premium he had to pay, his importing business is doing well. His wife is Marsha Foreman, age 35. She is sixteen years younger than her husband, and the sole beneficiary". Johnny's plane landed at about 8:00 AM. An hour later, he was at the Foreman's spacious and modern apartment. Martha greets him and says "I'm just having coffee on the terrace, Mr. Dollar, won't you join me?" Johnny says "Thanks, I could use some. You sure have a beautiful view of the bay out here". Marsha says "Yes I never get tired of watching the ships. There's always something going on". As she pours the coffee, Johnny says "Suppose we talk about your husband?" Marsha says "Alright, I told the police all I know, but I'll go over it again for you". Johnny says "If you don't mind. He disappeared the night before last?" She says "Yes, that's right". Johnny asks "About what time?" Marsha says "I'm not sure. Around 9:00 PM that night, somebody came to see him, a strange sort of man". Johnny asks "How do you mean strange?" Marsha says "Well, he was dressed in rough clothes, and a seaman's jacket. He said he was an old friend of my husband's". Johnny asks "Did he give you his name, Mrs. Foreman?" She says "Blinker, yes Blinker. He said that's what everybody called him".

Mr. Keen, Tracer of Lost Persons - The Skull and Crossbones Murder Case
Wednesday Feb 18, 2026
Wednesday Feb 18, 2026
In a handsome mansion that fronts both fashionable Fifth Avenue and a side street in New York City, an elderly man, Lemuel Barker, and his young wife, Audrey, are just finishing their dinner. They are being served by their housekeeper, Emily. The diners are eating quietly, but somehow there's an air of brooding in the large and well furnished dining room. Emily asks "Will you have a piece of pie, Mr. Barker?" He says "No, thank you, Emily". Audrey says "But it's your favorite pie, Lemuel. Aren't you feeling well?" He says "I'm quite all right, Audrey. I'll just have some coffee". Emily says "I'll pour it for you, Mr. Barker". He says "Thank you, Emily". Audrey says "Lemuel, something's been bothering you this evening". He says "Not really, my dear". Audrey says "I wish you'd tell me. I can see you're worried". Mr. Barker says "Let's finish our coffee, Audrey, and we'll discuss it inside. Frankly, I have something on my mind". Mr. Barker pauses for a second, and says "Audrey, this.. coffee...." Audrey says "Lemuel, what's the matter?" Mr. Barker falls onto the floor!" Audrey yells "Lemuel!" Emily says "What's happened, Mrs. Barker?" She says "My husband, he's fainted!" Emily says "His eyes! Mrs. Barker, look at his eyes! He hasn't fainted, he's dead!" Later, after the police left, Mr. Keen and his partner, Mike Clancy, are at the scene. Audrey says "When the police took my husband's body for an autopsy, Mr. Keen, they found he'd been poisoned. A very powerful poison had been put in the coffee he'd drank. A poison that reacted in a matter of seconds". Keen says "You were fortunate not to have drunk some of that poisoned coffee yourself, Mrs. Barker". She says "Well, Emily Cross, our housekeeper, served Lemuel, my husband, first. He'd drunk his coffee before I was starting to drink mine". Keen says "And the police believe it was not accidental poisoning, but murder?" Audrey says "Yes, Mr. Keen, and they believe they have a suspect in the case, but they have to find her first". Keen says "Are you referring to your housekeeper?" Audrey says "Yes. Emily Cross left the house before the police arrived, and she hasn't been seen since".

The old man says "Excuse me, yes, I'm looking for Miss Martha Ellis Bryant". She says "I'm Miss Bryant, but the office is closed. I thought that door was locked". The old man says "My friends tell me you are the one I should see". She says "Yes, well it's very late and I was just leaving. I have a dinner engagement". Old man says "No, please. I take only a minute or two. I've come about Joe". Martha says "Joe?" Old man says "Joseph Morellano. They say he killed a man named Freddy Chelini. You know about this?" Martha says "No, I don't think I do. When did this happen?" He says "December 10th, 1939". Martha says "1939? Well, that was almost 12 years ago". Old man says "Yes, it happened in a restaurant run by Bella Grope. It is down on State Street. You remember now?" Martha says "No, I'm afraid I don't". Old man says "In the back, over there, at the restaurant, there was a gambling room. But the police were after Bella, so on the night Freddy Chelini was murdered, the back room, it was a closed up tight". The old man tells Martha the story of how Freddy was killed, then he says "Yes, Miss Bryant, nobody really knows why he was killed and nobody much care, you see he was not a good man. But then one day police come for Joe Morellano. They say he killed Freddy. Joe is not at home, only his wife and two bambinos. The police look for Joe, but don't find him. Then Joe hears the police look for him, so he goes to the police station to say he did not do it". Martha asks "And then what happened?" Old man says "Joe is sent to prison for the rest of his life. He's been there 12 years now. But, he not do it. I tell you he said he not do it". Martha asks "Do you have proof?" He says "I am Tony Morellano. Joe is my son. My son not kill Freddy Chelini. My boy is not a murderer, I know". Martha says "Oh, I see, that's your proof?" Tony says "Wait, you not believe me?" Martha says "Mr. Morellano, I'm very sorry, but if he was convicted and sentenced to life, there must have been good reason".

Bill Renton, a U.S Army Air Corp pilot that successfully flew 30 missions over Tokyo during the war, was a hero to the people in his hometown of Fairview. The young veteran came home to banquets, speeches, and dinner parties, all given in his honor. Four weeks after his return, things were beginning to settle down to normal in Fairview. In a way, Bill was glad because he wanted to forget all about the war. However, his life on the ground began to get a little dull. One morning, Bill's telephone rang. He answered and heard a feminine voice say "Is this Bill Renton? He says "Yes". She says "The Bill Renton?" He says "That's right". She says "You don't know me, of course, but you knew my husband very well. He flew in your squadron, Jack Martin". Bill says "Jack Martin! I knew him very well! You say you're his...." She says "I'm his widow, Carole". Bill says "And you say you're right here in Fairview?" Carole says "I arrived this morning. I'm at the Central Hotel". Bill says "Well, I'd sure like to see you". Carole says "Well, I'd like to meet you too. Jack mentioned you so much in his letters". Bill says "Well, hold everything. I'll meet you in the lobby in ten minutes". At their meeting, Bill says "Well, I'm certainly glad you thought of calling me, Mrs. Martin". She says "The name is Carole". Bill says "Okay, and I'm Bill". Carole says "I guess you can understand how I like to meet and talk to anybody who flew with Jack". Bill says "Oh sure, Jack was a great guy". Carole says "He felt the same way about you". Bill says "Well, I.... Look, Carole, it's nearly 12:30. How about our having a bit of lunch together?" Carole says "Oh, I'd love to". Bill says "We could talk about how you happen to be here in Fairview". Carole says "Well, how I happened to be here may come walking into the lobby any minute now". Bill asks "Who's that?" Carole says "My Uncle George. I'm traveling around with him as sort of his secretary. He represents a group of men in the East who were planning to establish a chain of airports and flying schools over the country and they're putting one in Fairview. That's why he's here." Bill says "If there's going to be an airport and flying school in Fairview, I've certainly got to get in on it".

Joe Bren, an inter-city truck driver, called on his girl, Katie, at the modest home of her parents in Long Island City, just across the East River from Manhattan. Later in the evening, as Joe was leaving, he sees two guys sitting in his car. One of them says "Get in, Joe". He says "Hey, what are you guys doing?" The guy says "We're police officers, get in". Joe says "What do you want with me? I haven't done nothing, honest". The guy says "Get in". Joe says "Alright, yeah I'll get in". The guy says "Give me the keys". Joe says "Yes, sir. Hey, but look, you've got to tell me what this is all about". The guy says "Just give me the keys". As he hands over his keys, Joe says "What do you want with me?" The guy says "Tell me something, Joe. What kind of trouble were you in over in Jersey?" Joe says "Oh listen, I've been on the square since, honest. I mean I've been working hard driving a truck. I'm going to get married, my girl lives in there. You got me wrong, honest". The guy says "Have we?" Joe says "Well listen, my girl don't know I was ever in the jam. I don't want her to find out". The guy says "You got to have a chauffeur's license to drive a truck, Joe". He says "I've got one. I got it with me". The guy says "Keep your hands where they are. Why didn't you put it down in your application about what you did in Jersey?" Joe says "Oh now, listen fellows...." The guy says "To what? Why'd you give your cousin's address in Buffalo?" Joe says "Oh look, I couldn't have got the license otherwise. You know I couldn't have got it, I mean I...." Joe pauses for a second, and the guy says "What's the matter, Joe?" He says "Hey listen, let's see your identification, your badges or something". The guy says "Why?" Joe says "I just want to see them, I'm entitled to it". The guy says "I asked you, why?" Joe says "How do I know you guys are cops? You don't look like cops to me". The guy says "What do we look like?" Joe says "Who are you anyway?" The guy says "We're not cops, Joe, but we've got a headquarters and that's where we're going. To see the chief". Joe says "Wait a minute, let me out of here". The guy says "Sit back there, Joe, just take it easy. We don't want to hurt you".

Jeff Regan, Investigator - It All Comes Back to Me Now
Monday Feb 16, 2026
Monday Feb 16, 2026
She was about medium-sized, a brunette, beautiful, and bewildered. She couldn't remember where she'd come from or where she was going. She couldn't remember her own name. She was in the office of my boss, Anthony J. Lyon, that Friday morning. She sat there across the desk from him, holding on to her battered purse like it was the last thing in the world she was sure of. Lyon says "Oh Jeffery, come in. I've been waiting for you". Regan says "Morning, Fatso, a new client, huh?" Lyon says "Well, yes, I think we could call her that. Jeffery, this is Miss....Miss... uh". Regan says "That's a very interesting name, Fatso. My name's Regan, Miss Miss". She says "How do you do, Mr. Regan?" Lyon says "Jeffery, She has a a terrible problem". Regan says "Somebody does". Lyon says "She can't remember her name". She says "Please, can't you help me? I don't remember anything". Regan asks "Do you remember how you got here to our office?" She says "No, not anything". Regan asks "From when?" She says "From now, except there was a door that said Detective Agency, so I walked in". Lyon says "Yes, Jeffery, what are we going to do about Miss...uh...Smith?" Regan says "Smith?" Lyon says "Well we've got to call her something haven't we?" Regan says "Alright, Smith". Lyon says "This is a matter for the police or the bureau of missing persons, surely...." She says "Oh no, Mr. Lyon, please not the police. Please, Mr. Regan, don't let him call the police". Regan says "People who can't remember their names, usually can't remember they shouldn't go to the police, Miss Smith. Look lady, if you don't want to go to the cops, there's got to be a reason". She says "Well, then, look at this". Regan says "A 32 caliber revolver, Smith and Wesson. It's loaded, except for two empty shells. Miss Smith?" She says "Oh, I don't know...." Lyon says "That settles it, we call...." Regan says "I think Miss Smith hasn't quite finished her story. The gun in her purse isn't the only reason she doesn't want to go to the police. Is that right, Miss Smith?" She says "Mr. Regan, I'll try to remember. I was in a room in a small house. I was going somewhere, alone. I think I was on my way to kill someone..."

The Epic Casebook - Identification for Death
Sunday Feb 15, 2026
Sunday Feb 15, 2026
Farley Hall, a large country residence nestling amongst the Chilton hills in the county of Gloucestershire, was broken into and Sir Edward Farley was shot dead. The fingerprints of a man known to the underworld as Slapsy Mitchell were found at the residence. He was arrested and charged, as his fingerprints were already on record for previous crimes. Later, Inspector Carr receives a call from the Sergeant at Operations. He says "It's about the Farley murder". Carr says "What about it? They can't be asking us for assistance, the man's been arrested". The Sergeant says "Well, it's Mrs. Mitchell, sir. She's phoned twice while you're out. She wants to know if you'll see her". Carr says "Oh dear, Mrs. Mitchell. Yes, I remember her. Slapsy married her soon after he came out of Brixton for the Bayswater job. Ah, she probably wants me to give evidence for her husband in mitigation. Well, I'll see her. Fix the time for three o'clock this afternoon". At three, Mrs. Mitchell arrives. Carr says "Oh come sit down, Mrs. Mitchell". She says "Good of you to see me, sir". Carr says "Not a bit. I haven't forgotten your many little kindnesses when I was a sergeant at Vine Street and you managed the Regent Cafe". Carr pauses for a moment, and says "I'm sorry, Mrs. Mitchell. I really am. I thought Slaps had gone straight". Mrs. Mitchell says "But he had. He...." Carr says "Now let's be honest with each other, Mrs. Mitchell. I'm not going by the newspapers. I read a clear and comprehensive account of the investigation and the arrest of your husband in the Police Review. He's guilty as all get out". Mrs. Mitchell says "He's been framed, I tell you". Carr says "Framed? No, Mrs. Mitchell, I'm afraid you'll have to face up to the fact that the evidence against Slaps is too strong". Mrs. Mitchell asks "What have they got against Slapsy?" Carr says "His fingerprints on that cigarette lighter". Mrs. Mitchell says "You know Slapsy alright, he's been a crook all his life, but would somebody with his experience leave his fingerprints lying around?" Carr says "Well, frankly that surprised me when I read about it".

Sunday Feb 15, 2026
Sam receives a call from a man that says "This is Woodrow Wilson". Sam says "Really? Well, I'm sorry. I have Teddy Roosevelt on the other phone. It might take some time. You better try me later". Wilson says "Spade, somehow I thought you were above that sort of repartee". Sam says "I am above nothing, sir. as long as it's ethical. Now, which Woodrow Wilson is this?" Wilson says "I'm the new managing editor of the Evening Gazette newspaper". Sam says "Well, welcome to town. What can I do for you?" Wilson says "I have a job you might like. An interesting job and interesting money". Sam asks "How interesting?". Wilson says "If you find out what I want, you can almost name your own price. Can you get over here in three minutes?" Sam says "With any sort of a tailwind, I'll make it in two. A new track record". Sam quickly arrives at Wilson's office. He says "Take a seat, Spade". Sam says "Now, what is this interesting job?" Wilson says "First, let me say I don't know much about you personally, but you come well recommended. Second, this is a confidential matter, and I want it to remain that way". Sam says "Of course". Wilson says "I'm going to trust you as I would one of my own staff members. The police aren't to find out about it until it's all over. And if any other newspaper gets it, you might as well leave town". Sam says "Woody, old boy. The man doesn't live who can say I ever double crossed him for money or love or anything else". Wilson says "I had to say it so we'd understand each other. Now, take a look at this news photo. One of our boys snapped it. What do you see?" Sam says "I see a street intersection, O'Farrell, I'd say. Two automobiles hit head-on. An ambulance, a couple of people injured, and an assorted crowd". Wilson says "We took that picture three days ago on Tuesday night, a routine accident picture. But, when we were filing it, I noticed something startling. On the right side of the picture is an apartment house. On the sixth floor, look at the fourth window across to the left. Here, use this magnifying glass". Sam says "Well, what do you know? Somebody just fired off a gun". Wilson says "That's it. All you can see is a hand and a smoking gun. Now, I want that story. Get it."

A young man selling newspapers on the street is yelling "Read all about it. Society dame commits suicide with sleeping pills. Read all about it in the latest edition of the Daily Register". Dr. Roger Lumsden walks up to him to buy a newspaper. The young man says "Hiya Doc, I see you got your name in the paper about that sleeping pill deal. Say, Doc, what's the low down on that dame that took a powder, was she...." Dr. Lumsden says "Just give me the paper. You'll have to read about it in the Register". The young man says "Okay, okay, Doc. No need to get sore". Lumsden walks into the headquarters of the Register. He steps into the elevator and says to the operator "Take me to the office of the Night Editor". The operator says "Okay, he's on the fourth floor.. Say, are you all right, son?" Lumsden says "Yeah, yeah, I'm alright. Get going, will you?" Operator says "The Night Editor is Charlie Jorgenson, do you know him?" Lumsden says "No". Operator says "Well, most everybody knows Charlie Jorgensen. He didn't say anything about your coming". Lumsden says "It doesn't matter. He'll see me. I have a story for him". Operator says "Oh, a story. Well, here's his floor, Mister. You'll find Charlie in that corner office, right across here". Lumsden walks into his office. Jorgenson is speaking to someone on the phone. He looks up and sees Lumsden and says "Sit down, fellow. I'll be with you in a minute". He finishes the phone call and hangs up. Lumsden says "Mr. Jorgensen?" He says "Yes, what can I do for you?" Lumsden says "I'm Dr. Roger Lumsden. Your paper has been running my name in a story about that girl who died last night at the party on Long Island". Jorgensen says "Oh yeah, you were the one". Lumsden says "I wasn't at the party. Your paper said I was a guest. I was called to the party in my professional capacity only". Jorgensen says "I'm sorry if you were annoyed, Doc, but I don't see what difference it makes". Lumsden says "By innuendo and implication, your story says I'm a fast and loose society doctor who gets drunk with people of dubious morals and supplies them with drugs. Because of this, the hospital asked me to resign tonight. I'm finished. My patients are cancelling their appointments".

Saturday Feb 14, 2026
Saturday Feb 14, 2026
A rather confused older gentleman named Jenkins calls Mr. Wolfe's office to tell him that he has a dispatch to deliver to him. Later, when he appears at the door, Archie answers. Jenkins says "Evening. It's me". Archie says "Who's me?" Jenkins says "I just phoned you. I'm Jenkins. I got a dispatch for Nero Wolfe". Archie says "Oh, you're Jenkins. Well, come in, come in. Mr. Wolfe, this is Mr. Jenkins. Says he has a dispatch for you". Jenkins says "Yep. Are you Wolfe?" He says "I am. Where is the dispatch from?" Jenkins says "Don't know". Archie asks "You don't know? How come?" Jenkins says "Oh, I know. But I'm supposed to say I don't. See? That's my job". Jenkins delivers the letter and leaves. Wolfe asks "What is in the envelope?" Archie opens it and says "Mr. Wolf, look. Five 100 dollar bills. And the note reads "Mr. Wolfe, your services are desperately needed. Come up this weekend as my guest, signed E. Malott" Wolfe says "Edwin Malott, a wealthy man". Archie says "Well, looks as though you're going out this weekend". Wolfe says "Well, pay my respects to Mr. Malott, and I hope you enjoy the weekend. Good night". Later, Archie is knocking on the door of the Malott residence. The maid answers the door "Yes?" Archie says "Is this the Malott place?" She says "Yes, what do you want?" Archie says "My name's Goodwin. I'm a guest of Mr. Malott. He invited me down for the weekend". She says "Well, you'd better step in, please, Mr. Goodwin. Just sit down there, please. I'll get Mr. Malott. He's in the library. Oh, here he is. This is Mr. Goodwin, sir. He says he's come down for the weekend". Malott says "Mr. Goodwin? Good evening. You've come for the weekend, you say?" Archie says "Yes. Wasn't that the idea, Mr. Malott?" He says "Well, I don't understand, Mr. Goodwin". Archie says "Didn't you send me this note asking me to come here?" Malott says "Note? I did not". Malott looks at the note and says "Well, this is my personal note stationery, but I don't recall sending this. I didn't even type it. And I'm in the habit of signing my name with a pen, not with a typewriter". Archie says "There are five 100 dollar bills that came with this note, and you don't know anything about it?" Malott says "No, I do not".

Box 13 - A Perfect Crime
Saturday Feb 14, 2026
Saturday Feb 14, 2026
Dan Holiday receives a letter in his Box 13 that reads "My Dear Mr. Holiday, I do not address you as Box 13 because, having seen your advertisement, I was intrigued and found out who you are. You are a writer of mystery stories. I am a professor of Criminology at the University, and I think I have something of enormous interest to both of us. It's the perfect crime. I am going to commit it. Won't you be my audience if it pleases you? Come to my room at the University. Sincerely, Dr John Dobbs". At first, Dan wasn't sure whether the letter was on the level or not. Then, when Dan saw him, he was sure it was. Dr. Dobbs was waiting for Dan when he arrived at his room. Dobbs says "Hi. I'm so glad you came, Mr. Holiday. How long can you stay?" Dan says "All evening. My time is yours". Dobbs says "Wonderful. Oh, you think I'm a little crazy, don't you?" Dan says "Well, aren't we all?" Dobbs says "I suppose so, but let's discuss the perfect crime. Now what is a perfect crime?" Dan says "One that isn't solved". Dobbs says "Yes, of course, but nine times out of ten the crime isn't planned. I'm speaking about a planned murder, perfectly executed and perfectly hidden". Dan says "Dr. Dobbs, you're a great man in your field, therefore you should know that no one ever gets away with it". Dobbs asks "Oh, why not?" Dan says "Because there's always some clue. Some minute trace that leads directly to the murder". Dobbs says "Oh true, but suppose there were no clues, none at all". Dan says "Ah, but you're leaving out an important factor". Dobbs says "And that is?" Dan says "The body. It's hard to get rid of a body". Dobbs says "But, suppose the body of the murdered person were never found?" Dan says "There'd be absolutely no proof of murder". Dobbs says "Ah, my point exactly. Dan says "Dr. Dobbs, first, you're a famous man. It's hardly likely you'd risk everything you've worked for just as satisfy an insane whim. Secondly, I don't believe you're serious". Dobbs says "But I am, Mr. Holiday. I'm a very sick man. My doctor gives me three months to live. I spent a lifetime with books and studying students. I'm a crusty old bachelor. Now, in the time I have left, I want some excitement".

Bold Venture - The High Price of Treason
Friday Feb 13, 2026
Friday Feb 13, 2026
Slate and Saylor are walking back to the hotel after attending Kate's party. Slate is quietly singing a tune. Saylor says "So Slate, if you're going to sing, would you mind walking on the other side of the street?" Slate says "Kate said it was our song. Now that I got the hang of it, I'm not going to let it go". Saylor says "How'd she teach it to you, in sign language?" Slate says "You don't understand a girl like Kate". Saylor says "I understood a girl like Kate from the time I understood about girls". Slate says "She's sensitive, refined, and throws nice parties. That dress she was wearing, knitted it with her own hands, she told me". Saylor says "Mm-hm. But how many stitches can a girl drop?" Slate says "You know, Saylor, I asked myself the same question". Saylor says "Oh, that's what you were doing with her on the balcony so long. Counting them, huh?" Slate says "You see how wrong you can be? All she was doing was giving me a choice". Saylor says "Yeah, we all noticed. You took vanilla". Slate continues singing. Saylor says "Oh no, not again, Slate. Look, we're home. It's late. You want the people in the hotel to wake up screaming?" Slate says "Now, look, Saylor..." She says "Just open the door". Just then, Officer Lasalle walks up and says "Do not trouble yourself with opening the door, Senor Shannon". Slate says "What are you doing here, Lasalle? It's the time of night that every little policeman should be home in bed". Lasalle says "You are gay, Senor. It grieves me to spoil such gaiety". Saylor says "See, Slate, you see what happens when you sing? You spoil gaiety". Lasalle says "It is much more grave than that, Senorita. It is you that we are concerned with the most, most gravely. You are under arrest". Saylor says "Look, I'm on your side. I tried to stop him". Slate says "You need sleep, Lasalle. You act crazy without it". Lasalle says "Into my car, please. And do not force me to waive my authority, this gun in your faces. You are wanted for questioning by Commissioner Rodriguez. I prefer to deliver you in peace to answer such questions. Understood? Si, it is understood".

Suspense - The Argyle Album
Friday Feb 13, 2026
Friday Feb 13, 2026
When Harry Mitchell got his first job as a reporter at The Herald newspaper, a man named Alan Pierce was the star reporter. Later, Pierce went to Washington and became the top dog of all syndicated political columnists. Pierce could tell the readers what the president said when he didn't like his breakfast, and who was getting paid off for what, by whom, and how much. He was a national big shot, so naturally his coming back to the hometown in January made the local front page, especially after what happened as his train was pulling into the station, Alan Pierce had a heart attack, and was checked in to the Belden General Hospital. For the previous two weeks, Pierce's newspaper columns had been building up to exposing the information from the pages of something called the Argyle Album. He had stated that the Teapot Dome Scandal was going to be a church club misunderstanding compared to this. Millions of readers were waiting for his promised expose of it's contents. At the hospital, reporters hung around the anti-room of his suite during visiting hours for three days. Finally, on the fourth day, Dr. Van Selvin stepped into the anti-room. He says "Good morning gentlemen. Today I'll allow you to see him one at a time. Oh, uh, that is, except the man from The Herald. Mr. Pierce asked expressly to see him first. Harry Mitchell says "Right over here, doctor". The doctor says "Do you want to come in now?" Mitchell says "Right with you, doctor. Uh, Pinky, come here. Dr. Van Selvin, this is Mr. Melvin Pinkus, the Herald's best photographer. He's very good for patients. I wonder if...." Doctor says "I'm afraid not, Mr. Mitchell". Harry says "Okay. Stand by Pinky". Mitchell goes into the room. Pierce says "Hello, there. Say, you're Harry Mitchell, aren't you?" Mitchell says "That's right, Mr. Pierce". He says "Just call me Al. I spoke to the old man on the phone. I said, "Send your next Alan Pierce over." And he sends you. Do you consider that a compliment?" Mitchell says "Compliment? I'm going to hit him for a nice fat raise". Pierce laughs and says "Well, I suppose you want to know what the Argyle Album is". Mitchell asks "Are you really going to tell me?"

Joe, Kate, and another man are standing in the hotel lobby when Miss Judith Morgan's taxi arrives. The other man says "She's here. Her taxi just pulled up in front". Joe says "Now, Kate, you know what to do". Kate says "Yes". Joe says "I'll make like a bell hop and help her with her bag". The other man says "Oh, it's going to be horrible, too horrible". Joe says "It can't be too horrible". As Judith is getting out of the taxi, Joe goes outside and says "Oh, just a moment, Miss. I'll take that bag for you". Judith says "Thank you". They walk into the hotel lobby. Kate is behind the front desk. Judith asks her "Do you have a vacant room?" Kate says "Yes, certainly. How long will you be staying?" Judith says "Well, just overnight I think". Kate asks "Will you sign the register, please?" Judith says "Yes, of course. There you are". Kate says "Thank you, Miss Judith Morgan from New York City. Joe, show Miss Morgan to Room Six". Joe says "Sure". Before leaving the front desk, Judith says "Excuse me, do you have a Mr. Bruce Mansfield registered?" Kate says "He hasn't arrived yet, Miss Morgan, but we're expecting him". Judith says "I see. Well, when Mr. Mansfield does arrive, will you let him know I'm here? It's important". Kate says "Certainly". Judith says "Thank you". Joe says "This way Miss, just follow me". As she leaves, the other man approaches Kate. She says "Well..." The other man says "Well, what?" Kate says "I'd say everything's working just as we planned. Wouldn't you say, Mr. Mansfield?" When they arrive at the room, Joe opens the door and says "Here we are, Miss. Room Six". Judith suddenly seems apprehensive about going inside. Joe asks "Something wrong, Miss?" Judith says "Well, I don't much care for this room, I think I'd like another". Joe says "I'm afraid there isn't another available, Miss". Judith says "Oh, I see". Joe says "I guess it isn't the best we have but it's the best we can do. You don't have to worry about the noise, that quiets down for the night at exactly at 10 minutes before 10 o'clock". Judith says "Noise? I don't hear any noise". Joe says "You will. You see, Miss, the hotel is close to the railroad tracks".

Matt Cvetic calls his mother on the telephone. She says "Son, how are you, son?" Matt says "I'm fine, Ma. Any messages for me?" She says "No, but there was a man here earlier this evening". Matt says "A man? One of my...." She says "Yes, one of them. One of those...." Matt says "Commies, you mean? Look, what did he say he wanted?" She says "He said something about a meeting at the studio tonight. Oh Matt, when are you going to come to your senses and break away from this terrible organization and move back here with the rest of us?" Matt says "Mom, we've been over all this before". She says "But those people are criminals. One was here, named Burkhead, or whatever his name was". Matt says "Burkhead... oh you mean Burkhardt?" She says "Yes, that was his name. You're not in trouble, are you?" Matt says "Of course not. Mom, I've got to be going now. I'll be calling you. Goodbye". The studio was a second-floor piano school on 9th Street. It was used for secret meetings sometimes in case the regular hall was wired. Two men, beside Burkhardt, were waiting for Matt there, Herb Bemis, chairman of the cell at the time, and Jason Cook, secretary. None of them looked friendly. Matt says "Sorry Herb, I didn't get home until late. Herb says "You have met Comrade Burkhardt, haven't you Cvetic?" Matt says "Yes, about eight months ago in New York. Possibly, you don't remember it comrade..." Burkhardt says "I remember it. Sit down. Take the chair at the end of the table". Matt says "Thanks" and sits down. Burkhardt says "Cvetic, did you say something about not getting home until late?" Matt says "That's right. Mom gave me the message so I came straight on down here". Burkhardt says "Comrade Cvetic, are you certain you even went home?" Matt says "What do you mean?" Herb says "Benny Lizotte was waiting for you all evening in a parked car in front of your house, Matt. He just phoned and said you still hadn't shown up". Matt says "Look, what is this? What difference does it make when I come home? And what's the idea of having Benny spying on me?" Burkhardt says "I'm sure none of us in the party would mind a little questioning from his leaders, unless he had something to hide".

Inspector Faraday is talking to officers of the Homicide Department. He says "We have to find that woman, you understand. We have to find that girl!" Carlson says "Inspector Faraday, we can't hear you when you pound your desk like that". Faraday says "You'll pound a beat, if you don't find the Bromley girl, Carlson. And the same goes for the rest of you". An officer says "We're the Homicide Department. How come the pressure's on us to find her?" Faraday says "Because the pressure's on the whole force. What have we done so far?" Thompson says "We've got every radio car in the city in operation. We've called in all off duty men, and cancelled all...."Faraday says "I know what we've done, Thompson, and I know what we haven't done too. We haven't found Millicent Bromley. She's just a 22 year old, see. A girl who's done nobody any harm, see, and she's in the hands of thugs, see. Now, we're supposed to be policemen. We're supposed to protect the people of this city from accidents and crimes, yet we can't even help a 22 year old girl". Suddenly, Faraday's telephone starts ringing. He picks it up and says "Faraday speaking". The voice on the line says "Inspector Faraday, this is Shorty, you know, Boston Blackie's friend". Faraday says "Yeah, I know who you are, Shorty. So, don't bother me. I'm busy". Shorty says "Yeah, I know that, Inspector Faraday, that's why I'm calling. I can make you un-busy". Faraday says "Oh you can, can you? Well, isn't that nice. Now, look, Shorty, I've got...." Shorty says "You've got to listen to me, Inspector Faraday, Blackie's out of town...." Faraday says "Oh, Blackie's out of town is he? That's wonderful. Now, why don't you get out of town, too?" Shorty says "I just talked to Blackie's girlfriend, Mary Wesley. She talked to Blackie in California". Faraday says "So what? What do I care? I'm looking for a missing girl". Shorty says "I know you are. You're looking for Millicent Bromley". Faraday says "Yes I am. And I suppose you know right where she is". Shorty says "I sure do, Inspector Faraday. She's right here in my room".

Detective Sergeants Joe Friday and Ben Romero were working the night watch out of Robbery Detail. They were sitting in their car at the Sunset Drive-In restaurant when they received the call. The dispatcher says "All units in the vicinity of 1016 North McCadden Street, 484 PS (theft or larceny) and Code 3 (emergency response with lights and sirens). For more than a month, lone women throughout the western section of the city have been robbed and beaten. The descriptions were confused and varied because the attacks took place at night. At 10:06 PM, Friday and Romero arrived at the North McCadden location where the woman was lying on the sidewalk. She had been badly beaten about the face and neck and her jaw had been broken. Officers Reed and Shell of Unit 61F were already there. Romero asks "Are there any witnesses, officer?" Reed says "Yeah, this man in the sweater here, Mr. Conn, saw it happen. He says the victim's name is Mrs. Swanson". Friday says "Hello Mr. Conn. This is Sergeant Romero. My name's Friday. I wonder if we could talk to you, please?" Conn says "Yes, certainly. Do you want to come into the house?" Romero says "Right over here will be all right". Friday says "That officer there says that you saw it happen". Conn says "That's right. I was watching television, when I heard this scream outside. I looked out and saw these two men beating her up". Romero asks "Can you describe them?" Conn says "The light wasn't real good. They're about as tall as you two, but they had slighter builds". Friday asks "How old were they? Could you see that?" Conn says "I'd say they were young, maybe 18 or 19. I saw them knock her down. It was terrible. They hit her and then they kicked her. They picked up her purse and ran down that way". Romero asks "And you called the police?" Conn says "Yes, but not right away. I ran out and saw them get in the car across the street. They drove right past me. Then they turned east there on Romaine Street". Romero asks "Can you describe the car for us?" Conn says "I got the license number for you. The last three numbers were 552". Friday says "Just three numbers?" Conn says "Yes. California license plate. Do you think you'll catch them tonight?" Friday says "Do you know how many license plates end in 552?"

Night Beat - The Girl From Kansas

Monday Feb 09, 2026
Randy Stone is at the police station to see his friend, Sergeant Kolski, who happened to be going to the early evening line-up (show up). So, Randy decided to tag along. The prisoners were all women of assorted sizes and ages. It seemed to be the usual cross-section on the police blotter of any large city, shoplifters, thieves, narcotics suspects, husband beaters, etc. However, there was one that caught Randy's attention. He says "How about the young one there?" Kolski says "Good looking kid, huh?" Randy says "Oh yeah. She doesn't seem to belong somehow". Kolski says "Ah, they all belong. Randy, you can't tell by how they look. That innocent looking doll with her baby blue eyes...." Randy says "Yeah, I know. Don't tell me. Probably killed her grandmother. Only two will get you five, whatever she did, it's a first offense. That kid looks half scared to death". Kolski says "Hey, you on the far end. What's your name?" She says "You mean me?" Kolski says "That's right". She says "I'm sorry I can't see you. These lights are so bright". Kolski says "You're not supposed to see me. Step out a little. What's your name?" She says "Linda Johnson. But I'm here by mistake. I don't belong here". Kolski says "You'll have a chance to explain in court. Why are you in here?" Linda says "I don't know. I just arrived in Chicago this morning and they arrested me". Kolski says "Well, when they booked you, what was the charge?" Linda suddenly starts crying. Kolski says "Alright, girls. That's all. That's all, matron". Randy says "Well, as I was saying, this kid undoubtedly polished off her grandmother with an axe". Kolski says "Alright, Randy. So, maybe it's the first offense, or even a mistake, but you haven't looked to see what the charge says". Randy says "Well, anyway, can I talk to her? It might be something for me". Kolski says "Sure. Go ahead to the women's division. Tell the matron I okayed it". Randy went to the woman's division. There was a lady cop at the desk. When Randy asked her about Linda Johnson, she says "You're a little late, Randy. She's being released". Randy says "I just saw her at the line-up (show up)". Lady cop says "That's right. But she's made bail since. I'll be bringing her out in a minute. Randy asks "What was she in for? Lady cop says "Grand theft. She swiped a fellow's wallet in a bar".
