Mr. and Mrs. North - Checkmate
Henry Myers is calling his wife, Tina, at their home with good news. He says "Tina, listen to me very carefully. I have a job! I'll be right home to tell you about it! Tell our son, Stanley. He'll be pleased". Tina says "Oh, yes I will!" After hanging up the phone, she hurries down the hall and excitedly opens Stanley's bedroom door. Stanley says "For Pete's sake, Ma, do you have to bust in like that? Can't you see I'm busy?" Tina says "Stanley, your father has a job!" Stanley says "Well, what do you know". Tina says "Aren't you pleased?" Stanley says "What for? It took him long enough to land something, didn't it? How long has he been on the rocks? A year? Eighteen months?" Tina says "Most of that time he was in the sanatorium, you know that. He hasn't been home for long". Stanley says "Alright, Ma. What kind of a job is it?" Tina says "Well, I don't know. He will be here soon. He hoped you would be pleased, too". Stanley says "Yeah, I am. Now he won't be coming to me for dough all the time". Later, as the family is sitting down to dinner, Henry says "the name of the company is the Checkmate Corporation". Tina asks "Checkmate, is that a good company, Henry?" He says "It's a big company, Tina, they make machines that write checks automatically". Stanley says "Oh sure, I've heard of them". Henry says "Very good machines. Every check is stamped with little perforations and special markings to insure against forgery. You know what i mean, Stanley?" He says "Yeah, it's a good machine. What's your salary?" Henry says "There is no salary. I sell the machines for commissions. Mr. Martin at the company spent all day with me. He showed me all about the machine and explained to me the sales technique. We show the customer how easy it is to duplicate their signature by turning it upside down and slowly tracing it. When it's upside down, it is just a series of scribbles, not letters". Stanley says "Hey, that's not bad. You're bound to make money, Pa, one way or another".

A shady character named John Omak and a couple of his henchmen are waiting for Mr. Trafford to return to his hotel room. As he walks in, Omak says "Going on a little uh trip, Mr. Trafford?" He says "What the ...." Omak says "I wanted to see you before you left San Francisco". Trafford says "Hey, who are you and how did you get into my hotel room?" Omak says "What's the difference?" Trafford says "I'll call the manager!" Omak says "Drop that phone, Trafford". He hangs it up, and Omak says "That's better". Trafford says "What is this? What's that gun for? What do you want?" Omak says "I want that briefcase you're carrying". Trafford says "What?" Omak says "The briefcase. Hand it over and you won't get hurt". Trafford says "I'll do no such thing, you hear me? You won't get away with this". Omak says "Shut up. Sit down in that chair. We'll just tie you up so you won't make no fuss while we're blowing out of here". Trafford says "Why are you doing this? Just why?" Omak says "For dough, what else? I don't know what's inside this thing, but certain people are willing to pay plenty to find out". Meanwhile, Mitchell Monroe has just returned to San Francisco on a ship from across the Pacific. As he exits the ship, he finds Elise Pomeroy in a waiting taxi. She says "Well, Mitchell, you glad to be back in San Francisco again, or is that a foolish question?" Mitchell says "In view of being met at the boat by you, love, let's say it's a superfluous one". Elise says "Darling, always the appropriate sentiment". Mitchell says "Well, the Orient has its fascination, Elise, but it does not have you". Elise says "I hope it was dull, of course". Mitchell says "Oh, business was quite good, but nothing else. And speaking of business, how is our little curio shop?" Elise says "Excellent, darling. I'm expecting an interesting shipment soon". In a few minutes, their taxi arrives that their curio shop and they are met by their employee, Dorian. Elise asks her "Were there any messages while I was gone?" Dorian says "No, Miss Pomeroy, but there's a man waiting to see you in your office. His name is Mr. Omak".

Whitehall 1212 - Case of the Homemade Handbag

A young woman was found dead by the local milkman near Maidstone in Kent on a chilly October morning. The Chief Constable of Kent requested assistance from Scotland Yard, and Sergeant Paul Moore was assigned. When Moore arrived, he was directed by the police constable at the scene of the discovery to the local mortuary. There, Moore met Sergeant Miles Bouley of the Kent Constabulary. Bouley says "Oh yes, Sergeant Moore. Glad to see you. We didn't expect you so quickly. Well, like to come in and have a look at her?" Moore says "I haven't had my breakfast yet". Bouley says "Oh, she's not going to upset you. Very clean. Strangling job". Moore asks "Oh, how long have you had her?" Bouley says "Let's see. It's 7:44 now. About two hours ago, just on sunrise. The milkman on his rounds saw her lying beside the road". Bouley leads Moore to the room where she is located, and says "This is the lady". Moore says "She was pretty". Bouley says "You see, it looks as if a scarf or something of the like had been twisted around her neck". Moore says "The medical examiner hasn't been here yet, huh?" Bouley says "Not yet". Moore asks "Any ideas who she was?" Bouley says "Not the foggiest". Moore says "She had nothing to identify her?" Bouley says "Not a bloody thing". Moore asks "What have we done?" Bouley says "Well, we have a man out there where she was found, trying to find something. Perhaps you'd like to go out there?" Moore says "Yes, I think so". They traveled back to the scene where the body was found. After an extensive search, they found only her missing shoe, nothing else. Later, the medical examiner gave them his report at the Maidstone Police Station. He says "Well, there isn't a great deal to the report. Death was due to strangulation, of course, apparently by cloth of some kind, a scarf or neck cloth perhaps. However, there is one curious circumstance which may have an effect on the investigation, Sergeant. Judging by conditions indicated, without an autopsy, the body of the young woman was held in an upright position for some time after death".

A woman without identification, "Jane Doe" is currently in the hospital as a result of receiving several gunshot wounds. She was wearing a mink coat at the time of the incident. Sergeant Graham picks up an elderly witness to the crime, Mrs. Jennings, at her home and brings her to the police station for the line-up. She is met by Lieutenant Ben Guthrie, who escorts her to the viewing area. Guthrie says "Mrs. Jennings, our man probably won't be any of these but we have to cover every possibility". Mrs. Jennings asks "How is that poor girl?" Guthrie says "About the same". Mrs. Jennings says "Oh, such a terrible thing". Seeing someone in the viewing audience, she asks "Is he a criminal?" Guthrie laughs and says "None of the suspects are down here, Mrs. Jennings. They will be up on the stage. That's Captain Deveraux from the Narcotics Squad". As he normally does, Sergeant Matt Grebb starts the line-up procedure. Later, Grebb, in Guthrie's office, asks "Did Mrs. Jennings spot anyone?" Guthrie says "No, but she's coming back tomorrow to try again". Grebb says "That's too bad she didn't get the license number. How's Asher doing? Is there any identification on our Jane Doe?" Guthrie says "Not yet, he's looking into the clothes labels and laundry marks. He is also running her fingerprints through the database". Grebb says "Well, maybe she'll regain consciousness long enough to tell us who she is". Guthrie says "Dr. Gordon said he let me know if there was any change". As Sergeant Quine walks into Guthrie's office, Grebb says "Quine, just the man I need to see. Guthrie is feeling tired today and he needs his neck adjusted". As they are trying to convince him to do it, Guthrie receives a phone call. He tells Grebb and Quine "Asher has found the identification of their Jane Doe. She had worked in a defense plant for a while and was on file with the bureau. Her name's Lorraine Oberhauser. Asher is at her apartment".

Matthew Doyle is conferring with his lawyer, Mr. Johnson, about his current situation. Johnson says "Mr. Doyle, you understand that I can't prepare a proper defense unless you tell me everything". Doyle says "I understand, believe me. Just tell me what you need to know. I won't hold anything back". Johnson says "Alright, I want to know how you got involved in this thing. Oh, I don't mean the money angle. I can understand anyone wanting more money, but, how ...." Doyle says "How could a small fry like me get tied up with a big man like Elliot Barnes?" Johnson says "I guess that's it. You were originally just one of the accountants there, weren't you?" Doyle says "Yes, just one of three". Johnson says "And then in a period of 18 months ...." Doyle says "I was Vice President of the company". Johnson says "Yes, how did it happen? How or why, Mr. Doyle?" He says "Why? I wanted to get ahead. I guess there's one time for everybody. When there's a chance to get ahead, the easy way, you've got a choice. Stay where you are for the rest of your life, skimping and saving, or take what you want, like Elliot Barnes". Johnson says "Yes, that's it. Go ahead please". Doyle says "Well, I got that chance 18 months ago. I was wrong to take it. I know that now. I did fight it for a while, but it looked too good, too easy. Every time I went over my account books, I realized I was on to something big. I kept saying to myself, go to the police and tell them. It's the honest thing to do. But, I didn't go to the police. I went to Mr. Barnes's office instead. I told his secretary that I needed to see Mr. Barnes on a personal matter. Inside his office, Barnes says "The question of raises is handled by Mr. Heller. The question of working conditions is handled by ,,,," Doyle says "I didn't come to talk about a raise, Mr. Barnes. I came to talk to you about the Bridgetown Supply Company. I know who owns that company and why it was organized. I know it is only a front for an empty warehouse on River Street.

At night, the venerable city of Quebec in the moonlight, the narrow cobblestone streets are all but deserted. A man, wearing the cassock of a priest, has darted into the rectory of a church. He sheds the cassock and now he enters the church itself. A voice from inside says "Who is it? Who's there? The man says "It's Father Logan". The voice says "Oh, Father Logan, I did not recognize you in the dark". Logan asks "Is that you, Keller?" He says "Yes, Father". Logan asks "What are you doing here this time of night?" Keller says "I came in to pray". Logan asks "Is something wrong? Can I help you?" Keller says "No one can help me. I have abused your kindness". Logan asks "How?" Keller says "You, who gave my wife and me a home here, right with the church a job, even friendship, to me, a refugee, a German. Now you will hate me". Logan says "Oh no, I don't hate anyone, Keller". He says "You will. You will hate me but it was for her, for my wife. She works so hard, Father. It breaks my heart". Logan asks "Keller, what is it?" He says "I must confess to you. I want to make a confession. Logan says "Alright, we'll go to the confessional". Keller says "Yes, I want you to hear my confession". In the confessional, Logan says "So, you've been to the house of Mr. Villette. Go on, Keller". He says "Yes, Villette the lawyer. I killed Mr. Villette! I went to steal his money. I wore a cassock. If anyone saw me, they would think I was a priest. I was looking for the money when Villette surprised me. I did not mean to kill him. You must believe me, Father. I did not mean to kill him". Later, in his room, Keller tells his wife, Alma, what he did. She says "No, no, you didn't do it, Otto. You did not kill him". Keller says "I have just come from confession. Father Logan is my priest, and you are my wife. It is right that you should also know". Alma says "But why, Otto, why?" Keller says "I am not a murderer. It was an accident. It was the money. How could I watch you work so hard? I lie awake night after night and I think all we need is 2,000 dollars to start a new life". Alma says "Father Logan will go to the police. He will tell them". Keller says "He will not tell them. He cannot tell them anything he heard in the confessional".

George Valentine receives a letter that reads "My dear Mr. Valentine, my name is Lou Mendel. I own a nightclub, the Club Top Hat, which I'm sure if you've ever been there, you'll admit is a very high class place. It's not the type place where we have any trouble, and everything is strictly above the board, which is where you fit into the picture puzzle, Mr. Valentine. There is this girl whose name is Dove. She's a new dancer on account of she can't dance, but I like to be big-hearted. But as of today, my big heart has got me nothing but a blow on the head. This is the essence of the puzzle. Who hit me? Even more important is what about Dove? She is somehow in the middle of the trouble, and for such a nice girl, I don't like it. Oh yes, this is a lot more than just what you may be thinking, because poor little Dove, you understand, looks upon me as her big brother". George and Brooksie make the trip to the Club Top Hat. In their meeting, Brooksie asks "And how do you look upon her, Mr. Mendel?" He says "What's the matter with me? You think I'm inhuman?" George says "Well, if she was the third girl from the left, I'd say..." Mendel says "Never mind, never mind. You'd say the wrong things anyway. To me, she's nothing, except I think I should help". George says "You think she's in trouble?" Mendel says "I do not think very much, but there are some things I know. Oh, here, here. Dressing rooms are down this way". As they are going toward the dressing rooms, they encounter a man named Andrew holding a bouquet of flowers. He sees them and says "Oh, hello". Mendel says "Oh, good evening, sir. I think perhaps you're in the wrong place. If you were looking for the check room or the... " Brooksie says "Oh, no, he's not, Mr. Mendel. Oh, what beautiful flowers". Andrew says "Oh, yes. Thank you. I'm sorry I was in your way. I'm just waiting, that's all". George says "Not at all. Haven't I seen you someplace before?" Andrew says "Oh, no, sir. No, I'm quite certain. No, sir". Mendel says "Stage Door Johnny".

The first mate says "Hey, you know what else I think you got, Cutie?" Shelia says "What?" He says "I think you've got the cutest face in port, and I'm an authority". Shelia says "I'll bet you are, handsome". He says "Yes sir, the cutest face and the cutest figure. And what else I think you got, is an empty glass and so have I. Hey, bartender, a little service over here". Shelia says "No more drinks, honey. The joint's closing up". He says "Closing up? Well, how do you like that? Just when you and me were getting real acquainted" Shelia says "Of course, if you're not too tired, we could always go to my place". He says "Huh?" Shelia says "I've got a bottle, and no special closing time". First mate says "Hey, you mean it baby? You wouldn't kid a guy just off his ship? Shelia asks "Do I look like the kind of girl who would kid a guy?" He laughs and says "You know what? You're okay. Come on, let's go". Shelia says "Alright, you wait here a minute. I've got to make a phone call". He says "A phone call?" Shelia says "My roommate, just to make sure she's not home". He says "Oh, go ahead. You got a dime?" Shelia says "Yes. Are you sure you're not tired now?" He says "I've never felt more wide awake in my life, so help me. Go ahead go ahead make your call". Shelia says "It won't be a minute. Don't go away now". He says "Not for a million bucks, Cutie. I'll be right here". Shelia goes over to the phone booth, and dials a number. A man answers and says "Hello?" Shelia says "Hello, Marty. I'm calling from a bar. I'll have to talk quiet. Is Mr. Rieber there?" Marty says "He's here with me". Shelia says "Alright, tell him I'm with the first mate of the Calcutta. They docked tonight. Their cargo is burlap, jute, and, hold your breath, thirty pounds of pure opium". Marty asks "You sure?" Shelia says "Have I been wrong yet?" Marty asks "Where on the ship?" Shelia says "I don't know, but I will before the evening's out". Marty asks "You want the apartment?" Shelia says "Yeah, also the knockout pills".

Dr. Richard Martinson, of Glasgow, loved to give lectures, sometimes with pictures and slides of places where he said he'd been. Once, he gave a lecture about the beautiful Isle of Capri in the Mediterranean. He said it is the loveliest island of all the seven seas, with its blue waters and picturesque coastline. He had the soul of a poet, apparently, this Dr. Martinson, and he was also, according to himself, a great lover of liberty. He also said he knew Giuseppe Garibaldi, the great Italian general and revolutionary, whose courage was as great as man's can be. Martinson claimed that Garibaldi gave him his walking stick as a token of the high esteem in which he held him. Altogether, Martinson was a remarkable man, at least in his own eyes. Of course, there were those in Glasgow who were skeptical, perhaps with reason. Some said that he had never been out of the British Isles, except for a week in Paris. Others said that his stories about Garibaldi were nonsense. These discussions about his veracity didn't exactly help Dr. Martinson's practice, which in fact, was a pity, as the doctor's wife, Sylvia, was chronically ill. Martinson says "And how are we today, Sylvia, my dear?" She says "Oh, as well as I can expect, Richard". He asks "Have you had anything to eat today?" She says "I don't have any appetite, you know that". He says "The tonic I gave you is to stimulate your appetite, dear". She says "Oh, I can't abide the tonic, Richard. I'm sorry, but I can't". As Sylvia's condition worsened, Mrs. Toomy, Sylvia's mother, came to stay. Mrs. Toomy says "Richard, I don't believe you're giving Sylvia proper attention". Richard says "Why Mother Toomy, she's getting the best medical care available". Mrs. Toomy says "And she still won't eat. I've made up my mind, Richard. I'm taking over where Sylvia is concerned. First thing necessary is strength". Mrs. Toomy makes tapioca for her daughter, and tries to get her to eat it, but has no success. Mrs. Toomy ends up eating it herself. Later, Evelyn, the Martinson's maid, runs to the doctor and says "Oh, Doctor, she's taken so sick". Richard says "Who, my wife?" Evelyn says "Oh, no, sir. It's Mrs. Toomey. She's taken dreadfully sick".

One of the showplaces of the city is the mansion of multimillionaire Bradford Randall. In the richly furnished library of this mansion at eight o'clock in the evening, Randall, his daughter Agatha, and a dapper handsome man face each other. Agatha says "This is one time, Father, that you're not going to have your own way. I've made up my mind to marry Giuseppe, and that is that". Bradford says "Oh, no, Agatha. You think you're going to make this gigolo my son-in-law?" Giuseppe Renova says "Don't call me a gigolo, Mr. Randall" Bradford says "Oh, then what are you?" Renova says "I'm a man of honor who comes to you like a gentleman and asks for your daughter to be my wife. And for that, I'm insulted". Bradford asks "How much money have you got, Mr. Renova?" He says "I am Count Renova". Bradford says "Alright, Count. But answer my question". The Count says "Money is not everything". Bradford says "Ah, well, you're not finding a soft spot with me". Agatha says "Father, I won't let you". Bradford says "Shut up, Agatha. Now then, Count Renova, you get out of here, and stay out". Agatha says "If he goes, I go with him". Bradford says "If you do anything foolish, Agatha, you'll regret it. And so will your boyfriend. To convince you both that I mean business, I'm going to make out a new will tomorrow that will cut off Agatha with the minimum request allowed by law". Agatha says "Father!" Bradford says "You know I don't bluff, Agatha. Tomorrow morning, I'll have Devens draw up a new will. And it'll stand until you come to your senses". Agatha says "Come on, Giuseppe. Let's get out of here". Bradford says "You'll be back, my dear. And still single". Agatha says "You... Oh, I absolutely hate you". Bradford says "I'll show you I don't bluff". After they leave, Bradford calls Mr. Devens, his attorney, at his home. Bradford says "Devens, this is Bradford Randall. I've got a job for you to do first thing in the morning. No, wait a minute. You better do it tonight. I want a new will drawn up, and I want you to bring it here to me within the next couple of hours".

In a small, but well furnished apartment in New York's Greenwich Village, an attractive woman in her early 30's, named Cybil Kent, is having cocktails with a handsome, young man named Roger Dalton. Roger eagerly says "This is the moment I've been waiting for Cybil. I've got terrific news for you!" Cybil says "News, Roger?" He says "I've finally landed it, Cybil, that job as a Commercial Artist with the advertising agency!" Cybil says "Roger, oh darling!" He says "That agency is one of the most important advertising firms in town! I'm to start work at the beginning of the week. And it's all thanks to you, Cybil". She says "Roger, that's wonderful because it means that now, at last, we can go ahead with our plans". Roger says "What? What do you mean, Cybil?" She says "Oh Roger, darling, do I have to say it? Our understanding was that as soon as you graduated from art school, and got a job, we'd be married". Roger says "Great Scott, you mean you took that seriously?" Cybil says "What? Roger you know that was our agreement". He says "But, Cybil, I never dreamt you were really serious. I always thought it was, a kind of joke between us". She says "A joke? Roger you...." He says "The fact is, I've made plans of my own. I'm going to marry Vera Langdon. That's something else I meant to tell you this evening". Cybil says "You're going to marry Vera Langdon? After all I've done for you? All the sacrifices I've made for you?" Roger says "Cybil, you've been a wonderful friend and I mean to pay you back someday". Cybil says "Pay me back? Roger Dalton, you're not throwing me over for that society girl, Vera Langdon. Not when I've done everything for you. I've spent every penny I have to put you through art school!" Roger says "Cybil, listen to me...." She says "No! You listen to me! If you leave me, I'll go to the agency where you got this job and fix things so that you'll be through for good with every agency in town! What's more, I'll go to Vera Langdon, and that wealthy father of hers, and show you up for the selfish, ruthless...." Roger says "You're not serious, are you?" Cybil says "I'll go even further, Roger, I'll kill you before I give you up to someone else! Do you hear me, Roger?"

The Adventures of Philip Marlowe - The Eager Witness
Monday Feb 23, 2026
Monday Feb 23, 2026
Philip Marlowe was serving as a witness for the prosecution of a gambler and bookie named Earl Jernigan, who was accused of the murder of a horse trainer named Kurt Hopper, who had once almost been Marlowe's client. It was the afternoon of the fourth day of the trial and the prosecutor for the state had already built an almost airtight case against the gambler when Marlowe's turn to testify finally came. The prosecutor says "To further substantiate the state's claim that Earl Jernigan did willfully and with malice or forethought take the life of the deceased Kurt Hopper. Will Mr. Philip Marlowe take the stand?" After Marlowe is sworn in, the prosecutor says "Mr. Marlowe, the day on which the late Kurt Hopper was murdered, were you hired as a private detective by the said Mr. Hopper?" Marlowe says "I was". The prosecutor says "And at that time, Mr. Marlowe, did Mr. Hopper state his reason for hiring you?" Marlowe says "He did. He wanted me to act as his personal bodyguard on the following day when he planned to drive to San Francisco". The prosecutor asks "Did he say why he needed a personal bodyguard?" Marlowe says "He did. He told me he was afraid for his life, that he refused the gambler's demand that he drug a certain racehorse a week earlier, and that gambler threatened to kill him". The prosecutor says "I see. Now, Mr. Marlowe, did Mr. Hopper name that gambler?" Marlowe says "Yes, he did". Prosecutor asks "Who was it?" Marlowe says "Earl Jernigan". Prosecutor says "Thank you. No further questions, Your Honor". The judge says "Counsel for the defense?" Jernigan's counsel says "Counsel for the defense waives cross-examination, Your Honor". The judge says "The witness is excused". As Marlowe left the stand, he thought to himself "This doesn't make sense. The Defense Counsel, a lawyer named Calder, had essentially ranted and raved at each witness the state had presented". So the courtroom was left with a tingling impression that Earl Jernigan's attorney had something of a surprise waiting up his legal sleeve.

The Whistler - Not If I Kill You First
Sunday Feb 22, 2026
Sunday Feb 22, 2026
The chief of detectives was making a statement to the press about a jewel robbery from one of the stately homes out on the hill. The chief says "Fifty thousand dollars worth of diamonds were stolen, but there doesn't seem to be any mystery about it. We knew it was an inside job, because there's no sign of forced entry. And not only that, but we found a screwdriver under a chair. It matched up with the marks on the jewel drawer where he jimmied it open. That screwdriver came out of one of the family cars. So, we started our investigation by looking at those who were employed at the home. There is a maid, a cook, a chauffeur, and a gardener. After looking up their records, we found out the chauffeur is an ex-con. He served two terms for burglary. It was as simple as A-B-C". Unfortunately for the chauffeur, who was trying to go straight, the crime was not that simple. In a small room over on First Avenue, young, tough, Sammy Copeland is pacing the floor, waiting for a business partner, Albert Easley, to return. When he shows up, Sammy says "It took you long enough. Where you been?" Albert says "Relax, Sammy. You're in the big time now. You can't just dump 50,000 dollars worth of hot diamonds like you pawn a watch. It takes a little time, some diplomacy. You have to sit down and chat with the fence for a while". Sammy asks "Did you get it?" Albert says "It's all here, right in the briefcase". Albert opens it up and says "How do you like it?" Sammy says "Yeah, look at it. 50,000 clams". Albert says "50,000? That shows your inexperience, son. There's only 30,000 here". Sammy says "30?, but you said those rocks were worth 50". Albert says "Sure they are, but you don't think the fence will give you the full value on hot rocks? He's taking a risk too. He's got to have some profit. We got 30 from him". Sammy says "Oh yeah? How do I know that?" Albert says "What do you mean?" Sammy says "How do I know you ain't got the other 20 cached out somewhere?" Albert says "Because you trust me, that's how you know. I'm going to count out your 15 thousand". Sammy says "I want more than that. I want 25 thousand".

Ken Thurston is in a meeting with his supervisor, Chief of the U.S. Intelligence Agency. The chief says "I know it sounds fantastic, Ken, but it's happened. Here's the cable from Calcutta". Ken says "The third ship in six months to leave Calcutta disappears somewhere in the bay of Bengal. I guess I better read the cable". The chief says "Later, Ken, here's the story in brief. This Muhammad Lal had been fishing in the Andaman islands and was heading north for Calcutta. Around midnight, he noticed the lights of a freighter coming from the northwest. It was still four or five miles away, when it suddenly blew up. There was a tremendous blast". Ken says "And it sank immediately. Is that it?" Chief says "Yes. By the time he reached the spot, there was only a few pieces of wreckage and this submarine". Ken says "Cruising around on the surface and machine gunning survivors. Chief, If that's true...." Chief says "Yeah. Anyway, Lal was smart enough to grab a life jacket, slip over the side of his boat, and swim away from it. A few minutes later, the sub picked up his boat in the searchlight and sank it with a couple of shells". Ken says "That's quite a story". Chief says "Listen, Lal claims he saw something in the searchlight. That sub was flying an American flag". Ken says "What? Chief, you don't suppose they're trying to use that angle now to...." Chief says "I don't know, Ken, but we've got to find out. I checked with the navy just to cover. They've got one light carrier on maneuvers in the Andaman islands, with Indian government observers aboard. No subs...." Ken says "Hiding under an American flag machine and gunning survivors". Just then, Pagon's cousin, Zagon, walks in and says "Hello, Mr. Thurston. I just happened to be... uh...oh... how do you do, Mr. Chief?" The chief says "Zagon Zeldschmitt, by heavens, when it isn't Pagon, it's cousin Zagon. He says "Oh, shoot, I guess we're just the friendly type". Ken says "I'll have Miss Brooks check the airlines, right away". The chief says "Alright, Ken, I want to get caught up on the situation as soon as possible".

21st Precinct - The Shotgun
Saturday Feb 21, 2026
Saturday Feb 21, 2026
Captain Frank Kennelly was working his night tour, 4:00 PM to 8:00 AM. The earlier part of the tour had been exceedingly quiet due in part to a heavy downpour of rain, which began early in the afternoon and continued until nearly 11:00 PM. A good rain keeps the troublemakers off the street. By midnight, the sky had turned clear, although the streets of the city were still wet and glistening. Kennelly was in his office taking care of some accumulated paperwork and awaiting the appearance of patrolman Daniel Ritchie, who had requested some time off for the purpose of attending to personal business in Florida in connection with his father's estate. Meanwhile, Sergeant Watters was at call box 11, talking to Lieutenant Garman. Waters says "I went up there on 1st Avenue to take a look at that condition. There's about a foot of water on the street at that spot, Lieutenant. Looks like the catch basin and the sewer is stopped up there". Just then a woman walks up to Waters at the call box and says "Excuse me, officer". Waters says "Just a second, lady". Garman asks "What did you say, Sergeant?" Waters says "A woman just walked up and was speaking to me, Lieutenant. Anyway, all the water from the rain has just hung up there, Lieutenant. I think it'd be a good idea to notify the borough president's office and have them send a crew up to clean out that catch basin". Waters finishes his call and says to the woman "Yes, ma'am. What is it?" She says "I wanted to tell you I just shot my husband". Waters says "Yeah, where at?" She says "In that house there next to the corner. I live in there". Waters asks "Where is he?" She says "Upstairs in the flat". Waters says "Alright, Let's go have a look". She says "I couldn't help it. I really couldn't". Waters gets Patrolman Tyler, who was in the petrol car while Waters was at the call box, to come with him. Waters says to Tyler "We've got a shooting, come on". Tyler says "Yes, sergeant". Waters asks the woman "What did you shoot him with?" She says "A gun". Waters says "I know it must have been a gun. What kind of gun?" She says "A shotgun, I think you call it".

Richard Diamond, Private Detective - Butchers and Protection Racket
Saturday Feb 21, 2026
Saturday Feb 21, 2026
Giuseppe Angelino, owner of the local butcher shop, knocks on the door to Richard's office. He says "Door's open. Well, Mr. Angelino, come in". Angelino says "I didn't know whether you were busy or not". Richard says "What's the trouble, Angelino?" He says "Well, you see, it's like this. I come to you as a sort of representative for all the other butcher shops, the independent ones. I ain't the only one that's worried. So, all the butchers got together last night and decided to do something about it". Richard says "I hate to be a nag, but do something about what?" Angelino says "We all been paying money to a protective association. Every week a couple of guys come around and collect. If we don't pay, we get our shops busted up. And if that ain't enough, we get our heads busted too. See, I still got three stitches right here on the top of my head". Richard says "Oh, nice job". Angelino says "I got these last week when those two guys come for the money. I couldn't pay, so one of them hit me with a blackjack, and knocked me out. When I came to, my shop was a mess. There was a note saying that they'd be back". Richard says "Well, you better go to the law, Angelino. They'll give you good protection and won't cost you a thing". Angelino says "We discussed that at the meeting, but we decided it was too dangerous. We've been warned that if we go to the police, we'll get hurt bad. We got the families, Mr. Diamond. We can't take the chance". Richard says "Yeah. Have these two hoods been back to see you?" Angelino says "Oh, no, they ain't been back. Not yet." Richard says "For you or a Rockefeller, my fee's the same, Angelino. One hundred clams, uh, dollars a day in expenses". Angelino says "We took up a collection. I only got a hundred dollars, but if it costs more, you can take it out in trade at any of the butcher shops. It's the only way we can pay you". Richard says "Oh, I'll throw a barbecue. Let's go, Angelino" He says "Where do we go?" Richard says "Well, you and the rest of the butchers have not only hired yourselves a private detective, you have hired yourself a new addition to the butcher's union".

Barrie Craig, Confidential Investigator - The Corpse Who Was Wrong
Saturday Feb 21, 2026
Saturday Feb 21, 2026
Investigator Barry Craig was in his office when a man walks in. The man stares contemptuously at the rug, the furniture, and at Craig. He says "Good afternoon, Mr Craig. I am W. Stubbins". Barrie says "How do you do?" Stubbins says "I am an attorney, and I represent Arthur Philip Peterson". Barry says "You do, huh?" Stubbins says "Are you questioning my word?" Barrie says "I was just being friendly". Stubbins says "That is not necessary". Barrie says Oh, forgive me". Stubbins says "I find your levity irksome, Mr. Craig". Barrie says "There's no extra charge, Mr. Stubbins". He says "Where it not for Mr. Peterson's insistence upon hiring you.... " Barrie says "That's, uh, Arthur Phillip Peterson? You might tell me about the case instead of trying to impress me with Mr. Peterson's importance". Stubbins says "I shall. I have here a photograph of Mrs. Peterson, Stella Peterson to be precise. Also, on this paper is the address of the lodgings where Mrs. Peterson was last known to be, plus her last place of employment". Barrie says "I'm to assume that she no longer lives or works at these addresses". Stubbins says "That is correct". Barrie says "And I am to locate her?". Stubbins says "If possible". Barrie asks "How long has it been since she dropped out of sight?" Stubbins says "Oh, three months or so". Barrie says "Somebody wasn't in a hurry". Stubbins says "There were circumstances...." Barrie says "Oh, I'm sure there were. The photograph's nice and clear...." Stubbins says "I also have here a physical description of the lady, that includes her age, coloring, height, weight, and so on". Barrie says "Well, that might help but it isn't exactly what I had in mind. Hmmm, it says here she is 24. How old is Peterson?" Stubbins says "61". Barrie says "Well, now we know a lot more. How well do you know Mrs. Peterson?" Stubbins says "I barely know her at all". Barrie says "Well, in that case, I'll have to see Mr. Peterson. The descriptions are fine, but in a case like this more information is needed". Stubbins says "Seeing Mr. Peterson would do you no good". Barrie asks "Why? Is he bashful?" Stubbins says "No, he's dead".

Friday Feb 20, 2026
Friday Feb 20, 2026
Downtown at night, the lofty office buildings stand empty and quiet. Mary Margret Cannon, a sturdy middle-aged woman, has just started her nightly cleaning duties. Normally, she is a steady, hardworking, no nonsense type, but, on this Friday evening, something seems a miss. She is pale and nervous. Every now and then she stops working and just listens. After hearing something, she says "Is someone there?" Getting no answer, she quickly goes to one of the office telephones and calls her husband. She says "Hello, Terry, I'm scared". Terry says "Oh no, Mary. What are you scared of?" She says "I don't know. It's just these murders". Terry says "Murders?" Mary says "These women who've been getting killed". Terry says "I'm coming down to stay with you". Mary says "Oh, please. I'm so nervous. So jumpy. I'm so scared". Terry asks "But why?" Mary says "I just don't know... Terry?" He says "Yes?" She says "I hear someone coming". Terry says "Hey, are you sure?" Mary says "I hear someone". Terry says "I'll hang up and call the police". Mary pauses for a second and says "No, don't. It's just the guard". Terry says "You see now. Is everything okay?" Mary says "Oh, yeah. Like, you just forget I called and get your rest". They say goodbye and she hangs up the phone. Mary looks at the guard and says "Oh, good evening, Tom". As he gets closer, Mary says "You're not Tom". He says "No, I'm the new man, Mrs. Cannon". She asks "What happened to Tom?" The guard says "He called in earlier today and said he was sick. They sent me down to relieve him". Mary asks "How'd you know my name? He says "Well, Tom told me. Mary says "But...." The guard says "But, what? She says "Well, Tom doesn't know my last name any more than I know his. We're just Mary and Tom. How did you know?" He says "Why shouldn't I know your last name? You know mine". She says "How would I know your last name?" He says "It's Jackson. Remember? Little Peter Jackson?" Mary says "I never saw you before in my life". He says "Oh, yes you did. Twenty three years ago, you lived on Baxter Street, and one morning you walked into a little grocery store. Ah, now you remember". She says "What do you want? He says "I want to keep my promise".

Thursday Feb 19, 2026
In the Cafe Tambourine, a fat man is sitting a corner table and watching the front door, like he is expecting someone. Rocky is watching him because he knows the fat man has a gun under his coat. Chris the bartender walks by his table, holding a drink tray, and accidentally bumps into it. A leather pouch hits the floor, and what came pouring out sparkle like a kid's eyes in a candy store. The fat man says "You stupid bumbling fool". Chris says "I'm sorry mister, no harm done. Hey Rocky, come over here". Mr. Fat whips out his gun, and Rocky wrestles it away from him. The Fat man says "How dare you". Rocky says "I make all the rules here in the Tambourine, mister, and they don't include guns. Chris says "Honest, Rocky, it was just an accident. Here, I'll help you pick them up. The fat man says "Don't touch them!" He picks the diamonds up and puts them back in the leather pouch. Rocky says "Alright, mister, you got them picked up, now you know what to do". The fat man says "I suppose that no harm was done after all". Rocky says "Sure, it's past history". He says "I should apologize. I'm Sidney Hagerman. Having such such valuable gems on my person made me nervous. When they were on the floor, I automatically pulled the gun. I didn't mean anything by it". Rocky says "The next time you may automatically pull the trigger, so just move along". Sidney says "I had an appointment here". Rocky says "Not anymore, you haven't". Sidney asks "May I have my gun?" Rocky unloads it and says "Take it and get out". About 15 minutes after he leaves, An excited fellow and a nervous blonde clinging to him, walked into the Tambourine. They stood looking around like they expected somebody. The Blonde says "Eddie, I don't see him". Eddie says "Take it easy, Margarite. This is the place. He said the Tambourine". Margarite says "Yes, I know but...." Eddie says "Hey you". Rocky says "Some folks call me that". Eddie says "Have you seen a big, fat guy?" Rocky says "Did he call himself Sidney Hagerman?" Eddie says "Yeah, that's the one". Rocky says "He's been in and out". Eddie says "Out?" Rocky says "Yeah, that was my idea".

Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar - The Blinker Matter
Wednesday Feb 18, 2026
Wednesday Feb 18, 2026
Johnny Dollar gets a call from Fred Willis at the Assurity Mutual Limited Insurance Company. Johnny says "Hi Fred, what's on your mind?" Fred says " At the moment San Francisco". Johnny says "Oh, nice town to have on your mind, what's new out there?" Fred says "That's what I hope you're going to tell me". Johnny asks "What do you mean?" Fred says "Johnny, there's an importer out there with the name of Andrew Foreman. We're carrying a 50,000 dollar policy on his life". Johnny says "So?" Fred says "So, have you ever heard of an importer getting exported?" Johnny says "I don't get you, Fred". He says "I'm afraid that's what happened to Foreman last night. He's disappeared". Johnny says "I'm on my way". On the flight from Hartford to San Francisco, Johnny studied the information he received from Fred about this case. It reads "Andrew Foreman's age is 51. His occupation is an Importer. His health is good, and judging from the hefty premium he had to pay, his importing business is doing well. His wife is Marsha Foreman, age 35. She is sixteen years younger than her husband, and the sole beneficiary". Johnny's plane landed at about 8:00 AM. An hour later, he was at the Foreman's spacious and modern apartment. Martha greets him and says "I'm just having coffee on the terrace, Mr. Dollar, won't you join me?" Johnny says "Thanks, I could use some. You sure have a beautiful view of the bay out here". Marsha says "Yes I never get tired of watching the ships. There's always something going on". As she pours the coffee, Johnny says "Suppose we talk about your husband?" Marsha says "Alright, I told the police all I know, but I'll go over it again for you". Johnny says "If you don't mind. He disappeared the night before last?" She says "Yes, that's right". Johnny asks "About what time?" Marsha says "I'm not sure. Around 9:00 PM that night, somebody came to see him, a strange sort of man". Johnny asks "How do you mean strange?" Marsha says "Well, he was dressed in rough clothes, and a seaman's jacket. He said he was an old friend of my husband's". Johnny asks "Did he give you his name, Mrs. Foreman?" She says "Blinker, yes Blinker. He said that's what everybody called him".

Mr. Keen, Tracer of Lost Persons - The Skull and Crossbones Murder Case
Wednesday Feb 18, 2026
Wednesday Feb 18, 2026
In a handsome mansion that fronts both fashionable Fifth Avenue and a side street in New York City, an elderly man, Lemuel Barker, and his young wife, Audrey, are just finishing their dinner. They are being served by their housekeeper, Emily. The diners are eating quietly, but somehow there's an air of brooding in the large and well furnished dining room. Emily asks "Will you have a piece of pie, Mr. Barker?" He says "No, thank you, Emily". Audrey says "But it's your favorite pie, Lemuel. Aren't you feeling well?" He says "I'm quite all right, Audrey. I'll just have some coffee". Emily says "I'll pour it for you, Mr. Barker". He says "Thank you, Emily". Audrey says "Lemuel, something's been bothering you this evening". He says "Not really, my dear". Audrey says "I wish you'd tell me. I can see you're worried". Mr. Barker says "Let's finish our coffee, Audrey, and we'll discuss it inside. Frankly, I have something on my mind". Mr. Barker pauses for a second, and says "Audrey, this.. coffee...." Audrey says "Lemuel, what's the matter?" Mr. Barker falls onto the floor!" Audrey yells "Lemuel!" Emily says "What's happened, Mrs. Barker?" She says "My husband, he's fainted!" Emily says "His eyes! Mrs. Barker, look at his eyes! He hasn't fainted, he's dead!" Later, after the police left, Mr. Keen and his partner, Mike Clancy, are at the scene. Audrey says "When the police took my husband's body for an autopsy, Mr. Keen, they found he'd been poisoned. A very powerful poison had been put in the coffee he'd drank. A poison that reacted in a matter of seconds". Keen says "You were fortunate not to have drunk some of that poisoned coffee yourself, Mrs. Barker". She says "Well, Emily Cross, our housekeeper, served Lemuel, my husband, first. He'd drunk his coffee before I was starting to drink mine". Keen says "And the police believe it was not accidental poisoning, but murder?" Audrey says "Yes, Mr. Keen, and they believe they have a suspect in the case, but they have to find her first". Keen says "Are you referring to your housekeeper?" Audrey says "Yes. Emily Cross left the house before the police arrived, and she hasn't been seen since".

The old man says "Excuse me, yes, I'm looking for Miss Martha Ellis Bryant". She says "I'm Miss Bryant, but the office is closed. I thought that door was locked". The old man says "My friends tell me you are the one I should see". She says "Yes, well it's very late and I was just leaving. I have a dinner engagement". Old man says "No, please. I take only a minute or two. I've come about Joe". Martha says "Joe?" Old man says "Joseph Morellano. They say he killed a man named Freddy Chelini. You know about this?" Martha says "No, I don't think I do. When did this happen?" He says "December 10th, 1939". Martha says "1939? Well, that was almost 12 years ago". Old man says "Yes, it happened in a restaurant run by Bella Grope. It is down on State Street. You remember now?" Martha says "No, I'm afraid I don't". Old man says "In the back, over there, at the restaurant, there was a gambling room. But the police were after Bella, so on the night Freddy Chelini was murdered, the back room, it was a closed up tight". The old man tells Martha the story of how Freddy was killed, then he says "Yes, Miss Bryant, nobody really knows why he was killed and nobody much care, you see he was not a good man. But then one day police come for Joe Morellano. They say he killed Freddy. Joe is not at home, only his wife and two bambinos. The police look for Joe, but don't find him. Then Joe hears the police look for him, so he goes to the police station to say he did not do it". Martha asks "And then what happened?" Old man says "Joe is sent to prison for the rest of his life. He's been there 12 years now. But, he not do it. I tell you he said he not do it". Martha asks "Do you have proof?" He says "I am Tony Morellano. Joe is my son. My son not kill Freddy Chelini. My boy is not a murderer, I know". Martha says "Oh, I see, that's your proof?" Tony says "Wait, you not believe me?" Martha says "Mr. Morellano, I'm very sorry, but if he was convicted and sentenced to life, there must have been good reason".

Bill Renton, a U.S Army Air Corp pilot that successfully flew 30 missions over Tokyo during the war, was a hero to the people in his hometown of Fairview. The young veteran came home to banquets, speeches, and dinner parties, all given in his honor. Four weeks after his return, things were beginning to settle down to normal in Fairview. In a way, Bill was glad because he wanted to forget all about the war. However, his life on the ground began to get a little dull. One morning, Bill's telephone rang. He answered and heard a feminine voice say "Is this Bill Renton? He says "Yes". She says "The Bill Renton?" He says "That's right". She says "You don't know me, of course, but you knew my husband very well. He flew in your squadron, Jack Martin". Bill says "Jack Martin! I knew him very well! You say you're his...." She says "I'm his widow, Carole". Bill says "And you say you're right here in Fairview?" Carole says "I arrived this morning. I'm at the Central Hotel". Bill says "Well, I'd sure like to see you". Carole says "Well, I'd like to meet you too. Jack mentioned you so much in his letters". Bill says "Well, hold everything. I'll meet you in the lobby in ten minutes". At their meeting, Bill says "Well, I'm certainly glad you thought of calling me, Mrs. Martin". She says "The name is Carole". Bill says "Okay, and I'm Bill". Carole says "I guess you can understand how I like to meet and talk to anybody who flew with Jack". Bill says "Oh sure, Jack was a great guy". Carole says "He felt the same way about you". Bill says "Well, I.... Look, Carole, it's nearly 12:30. How about our having a bit of lunch together?" Carole says "Oh, I'd love to". Bill says "We could talk about how you happen to be here in Fairview". Carole says "Well, how I happened to be here may come walking into the lobby any minute now". Bill asks "Who's that?" Carole says "My Uncle George. I'm traveling around with him as sort of his secretary. He represents a group of men in the East who were planning to establish a chain of airports and flying schools over the country and they're putting one in Fairview. That's why he's here." Bill says "If there's going to be an airport and flying school in Fairview, I've certainly got to get in on it".

Later in the evening, as Joe was leaving, he sees two guys sitting in his car. One of them says "Get in, Joe". He says "Hey, what are you guys doing?" The guy says "We're police officers, get in". Joe says "What do you want with me? I haven't done nothing, honest". The guy says "Get in". Joe says "Alright, yeah I'll get in". The guy says "Give me the keys". Joe says "Yes, sir. Hey, but look, you've got to tell me what this is all about". The guy says "Just give me the keys". As he hands over his keys, Joe says "What do you want with me?" The guy says "Tell me something, Joe. What kind of trouble were you in over in Jersey?" Joe says "Oh listen, I've been on the square since, honest. I mean I've been working hard driving a truck. I'm going to get married, my girl lives in there. You got me wrong, honest". The guy says "Have we?" Joe says "Well listen, my girl don't know I was ever in the jam. I don't want her to find out". The guy says "You got to have a chauffeur's license to drive a truck, Joe". He says "I've got one. I got it with me". The guy says "Keep your hands where they are. Why didn't you put it down in your application about what you did in Jersey?" Joe says "Oh now, listen fellows...." The guy says "To what? Why'd you give your cousin's address in Buffalo?" Joe says "Oh look, I couldn't have got the license otherwise. You know I couldn't have got it, I mean I...." Joe pauses for a second, and the guy says "What's the matter, Joe?" He says "Hey listen, let's see your identification, your badges or something". The guy says "Why?" Joe says "I just want to see them, I'm entitled to it". The guy says "I asked you, why?" Joe says "How do I know you guys are cops? You don't look like cops to me". The guy says "What do we look like?" Joe says "Who are you anyway?" The guy says "We're not cops, Joe, but we've got a headquarters and that's where we're going. To see the chief". Joe says "Wait a minute, let me out of here". The guy says "Sit back there, Joe, just take it easy. We don't want to hurt you".

Jeff Regan, Investigator - It All Comes Back to Me Now
Monday Feb 16, 2026
Monday Feb 16, 2026
She was about medium-sized, a brunette, beautiful, and bewildered. She couldn't remember where she'd come from or where she was going. She couldn't remember her own name. She was in the office of my boss, Anthony J. Lyon, that Friday morning. She sat there across the desk from him, holding on to her battered purse like it was the last thing in the world she was sure of. Lyon says "Oh Jeffery, come in. I've been waiting for you". Regan says "Morning, Fatso, a new client, huh?" Lyon says "Well, yes, I think we could call her that. Jeffery, this is Miss....Miss... uh". Regan says "That's a very interesting name, Fatso. My name's Regan, Miss Miss". She says "How do you do, Mr. Regan?" Lyon says "Jeffery, She has a a terrible problem". Regan says "Somebody does". Lyon says "She can't remember her name". She says "Please, can't you help me? I don't remember anything". Regan asks "Do you remember how you got here to our office?" She says "No, not anything". Regan asks "From when?" She says "From now, except there was a door that said Detective Agency, so I walked in". Lyon says "Yes, Jeffery, what are we going to do about Miss...uh...Smith?" Regan says "Smith?" Lyon says "Well we've got to call her something haven't we?" Regan says "Alright, Smith". Lyon says "This is a matter for the police or the bureau of missing persons, surely...." She says "Oh no, Mr. Lyon, please not the police. Please, Mr. Regan, don't let him call the police". Regan says "People who can't remember their names, usually can't remember they shouldn't go to the police, Miss Smith. Look lady, if you don't want to go to the cops, there's got to be a reason". She says "Well, then, look at this". Regan says "A 32 caliber revolver, Smith and Wesson. It's loaded, except for two empty shells. Miss Smith?" She says "Oh, I don't know...." Lyon says "That settles it, we call...." Regan says "I think Miss Smith hasn't quite finished her story. The gun in her purse isn't the only reason she doesn't want to go to the police. Is that right, Miss Smith?" She says "Mr. Regan, I'll try to remember. I was in a room in a small house. I was going somewhere, alone. I think I was on my way to kill someone..."

Farley Hall, a large country residence nestling amongst the Chilton hills in the county of Gloucestershire, was broken into and Sir Edward Farley was shot dead. The fingerprints of a man known to the underworld as Slapsy Mitchell were found at the residence. He was arrested and charged, as his fingerprints were already on record for previous crimes. Later, Inspector Carr receives a call from the Sergeant at Operations. He says "It's about the Farley murder". Carr says "What about it? They can't be asking us for assistance, the man's been arrested". The Sergeant says "Well, it's Mrs. Mitchell, sir. She's phoned twice while you're out. She wants to know if you'll see her". Carr says "Oh dear, Mrs. Mitchell. Yes, I remember her. Slapsy married her soon after he came out of Brixton for the Bayswater job. Ah, she probably wants me to give evidence for her husband in mitigation. Well, I'll see her. Fix the time for three o'clock this afternoon". At three, Mrs. Mitchell arrives. Carr says "Oh come sit down, Mrs. Mitchell". She says "Good of you to see me, sir". Carr says "Not a bit. I haven't forgotten your many little kindnesses when I was a sergeant at Vine Street and you managed the Regent Cafe". Carr pauses for a moment, and says "I'm sorry, Mrs. Mitchell. I really am. I thought Slaps had gone straight". Mrs. Mitchell says "But he had. He...." Carr says "Now let's be honest with each other, Mrs. Mitchell. I'm not going by the newspapers. I read a clear and comprehensive account of the investigation and the arrest of your husband in the Police Review. He's guilty as all get out". Mrs. Mitchell says "He's been framed, I tell you". Carr says "Framed? No, Mrs. Mitchell, I'm afraid you'll have to face up to the fact that the evidence against Slaps is too strong". Mrs. Mitchell asks "What have they got against Slapsy?" Carr says "His fingerprints on that cigarette lighter". Mrs. Mitchell says "You know Slapsy alright, he's been a crook all his life, but would somebody with his experience leave his fingerprints lying around?" Carr says "Well, frankly that surprised me when I read about it".

The Adventures of Sam Spade - The Shot in the Dark Caper
Sunday Feb 15, 2026
Sunday Feb 15, 2026
Sam receives a call from a man that says "This is Woodrow Wilson". Sam says "Really? Well, I'm sorry. I have Teddy Roosevelt on the other phone. It might take some time. You better try me later". Wilson says "Spade, somehow I thought you were above that sort of repartee". Sam says "I am above nothing, sir. as long as it's ethical. Now, which Woodrow Wilson is this?" Wilson says "I'm the new managing editor of the Evening Gazette newspaper". Sam says "Well, welcome to town. What can I do for you?" Wilson says "I have a job you might like. An interesting job and interesting money". Sam asks "How interesting?". Wilson says "If you find out what I want, you can almost name your own price. Can you get over here in three minutes?" Sam says "With any sort of a tailwind, I'll make it in two. A new track record". Sam quickly arrives at Wilson's office. He says "Take a seat, Spade". Sam says "Now, what is this interesting job?" Wilson says "First, let me say I don't know much about you personally, but you come well recommended. Second, this is a confidential matter, and I want it to remain that way". Sam says "Of course". Wilson says "I'm going to trust you as I would one of my own staff members. The police aren't to find out about it until it's all over. And if any other newspaper gets it, you might as well leave town". Sam says "Woody, old boy. The man doesn't live who can say I ever double crossed him for money or love or anything else". Wilson says "I had to say it so we'd understand each other. Now, take a look at this news photo. One of our boys snapped it. What do you see?" Sam says "I see a street intersection, O'Farrell, I'd say. Two automobiles hit head-on. An ambulance, a couple of people injured, and an assorted crowd". Wilson says "We took that picture three days ago on Tuesday night, a routine accident picture. But, when we were filing it, I noticed something startling. On the right side of the picture is an apartment house. On the sixth floor, look at the fourth window across to the left. Here, use this magnifying glass". Sam says "Well, what do you know? Somebody just fired off a gun". Wilson says "That's it. All you can see is a hand and a smoking gun. Now, I want that story. Get it."

Radio City Playhouse - Correction
Saturday Feb 14, 2026
Saturday Feb 14, 2026
A young man selling newspapers on the street is yelling "Read all about it. Society dame commits suicide with sleeping pills. Read all about it in the latest edition of the Daily Register". Dr. Roger Lumsden walks up to him to buy a newspaper. The young man says "Hiya Doc, I see you got your name in the paper about that sleeping pill deal. Say, Doc, what's the low down on that dame that took a powder, was she...." Dr. Lumsden says "Just give me the paper. You'll have to read about it in the Register". The young man says "Okay, okay, Doc. No need to get sore". Lumsden walks into the headquarters of the Register. He steps into the elevator and says to the operator "Take me to the office of the Night Editor". The operator says "Okay, he's on the fourth floor.. Say, are you all right, son?" Lumsden says "Yeah, yeah, I'm alright. Get going, will you?" Operator says "The Night Editor is Charlie Jorgenson, do you know him?" Lumsden says "No". Operator says "Well, most everybody knows Charlie Jorgensen. He didn't say anything about your coming". Lumsden says "It doesn't matter. He'll see me. I have a story for him". Operator says "Oh, a story. Well, here's his floor, Mister. You'll find Charlie in that corner office, right across here". Lumsden walks into his office. Jorgenson is speaking to someone on the phone. He looks up and sees Lumsden and says "Sit down, fellow. I'll be with you in a minute". He finishes the phone call and hangs up. Lumsden says "Mr. Jorgensen?" He says "Yes, what can I do for you?" Lumsden says "I'm Dr. Roger Lumsden. Your paper has been running my name in a story about that girl who died last night at the party on Long Island". Jorgensen says "Oh yeah, you were the one". Lumsden says "I wasn't at the party. Your paper said I was a guest. I was called to the party in my professional capacity only". Jorgensen says "I'm sorry if you were annoyed, Doc, but I don't see what difference it makes". Lumsden says "By innuendo and implication, your story says I'm a fast and loose society doctor who gets drunk with people of dubious morals and supplies them with drugs. Because of this, the hospital asked me to resign tonight. I'm finished. My patients are cancelling their appointments".

The New Adventures of Nero Wolfe - The Tell-Tale Ribbon
Saturday Feb 14, 2026
Saturday Feb 14, 2026
A rather confused older gentleman named Jenkins calls Mr. Wolfe's office to tell him that he has a dispatch to deliver to him. Later, when he appears at the door, Archie answers. Jenkins says "Evening. It's me". Archie says "Who's me?" Jenkins says "I just phoned you. I'm Jenkins. I got a dispatch for Nero Wolfe". Archie says "Oh, you're Jenkins. Well, come in, come in. Mr. Wolfe, this is Mr. Jenkins. Says he has a dispatch for you". Jenkins says "Yep. Are you Wolfe?" He says "I am. Where is the dispatch from?" Jenkins says "Don't know". Archie asks "You don't know? How come?" Jenkins says "Oh, I know. But I'm supposed to say I don't. See? That's my job". Jenkins delivers the letter and leaves. Wolfe asks "What is in the envelope?" Archie opens it and says "Mr. Wolf, look. Five 100 dollar bills. And the note reads "Mr. Wolfe, your services are desperately needed. Come up this weekend as my guest, signed E. Malott" Wolfe says "Edwin Malott, a wealthy man". Archie says "Well, looks as though you're going out this weekend". Wolfe says "Well, pay my respects to Mr. Malott, and I hope you enjoy the weekend. Good night". Later, Archie is knocking on the door of the Malott residence. The maid answers the door "Yes?" Archie says "Is this the Malott place?" She says "Yes, what do you want?" Archie says "My name's Goodwin. I'm a guest of Mr. Malott. He invited me down for the weekend". She says "Well, you'd better step in, please, Mr. Goodwin. Just sit down there, please. I'll get Mr. Malott. He's in the library. Oh, here he is. This is Mr. Goodwin, sir. He says he's come down for the weekend". Malott says "Mr. Goodwin? Good evening. You've come for the weekend, you say?" Archie says "Yes. Wasn't that the idea, Mr. Malott?" He says "Well, I don't understand, Mr. Goodwin". Archie says "Didn't you send me this note asking me to come here?" Malott says "Note? I did not". Malott looks at the note and says "Well, this is my personal note stationery, but I don't recall sending this. I didn't even type it. And I'm in the habit of signing my name with a pen, not with a typewriter". Archie says "There are five 100 dollar bills that came with this note, and you don't know anything about it?" Malott says "No, I do not".

Box 13 - A Perfect Crime
Saturday Feb 14, 2026
Saturday Feb 14, 2026
Dan Holiday receives a letter in his Box 13 that reads "My Dear Mr. Holiday, I do not address you as Box 13 because, having seen your advertisement, I was intrigued and found out who you are. You are a writer of mystery stories. I am a professor of Criminology at the University, and I think I have something of enormous interest to both of us. It's the perfect crime. I am going to commit it. Won't you be my audience if it pleases you? Come to my room at the University. Sincerely, Dr John Dobbs". At first, Dan wasn't sure whether the letter was on the level or not. Then, when Dan saw him, he was sure it was. Dr. Dobbs was waiting for Dan when he arrived at his room. Dobbs says "Hi. I'm so glad you came, Mr. Holiday. How long can you stay?" Dan says "All evening. My time is yours". Dobbs says "Wonderful. Oh, you think I'm a little crazy, don't you?" Dan says "Well, aren't we all?" Dobbs says "I suppose so, but let's discuss the perfect crime. Now what is a perfect crime?" Dan says "One that isn't solved". Dobbs says "Yes, of course, but nine times out of ten the crime isn't planned. I'm speaking about a planned murder, perfectly executed and perfectly hidden". Dan says "Dr. Dobbs, you're a great man in your field, therefore you should know that no one ever gets away with it". Dobbs asks "Oh, why not?" Dan says "Because there's always some clue. Some minute trace that leads directly to the murder". Dobbs says "Oh true, but suppose there were no clues, none at all". Dan says "Ah, but you're leaving out an important factor". Dobbs says "And that is?" Dan says "The body. It's hard to get rid of a body". Dobbs says "But, suppose the body of the murdered person were never found?" Dan says "There'd be absolutely no proof of murder". Dobbs says "Ah, my point exactly. Dan says "Dr. Dobbs, first, you're a famous man. It's hardly likely you'd risk everything you've worked for just as satisfy an insane whim. Secondly, I don't believe you're serious". Dobbs says "But I am, Mr. Holiday. I'm a very sick man. My doctor gives me three months to live. I spent a lifetime with books and studying students. I'm a crusty old bachelor. Now, in the time I have left, I want some excitement".

Bold Venture - The High Price of Treason
Friday Feb 13, 2026
Friday Feb 13, 2026
Slate and Saylor are walking back to the hotel after attending Kate's party. Slate is quietly singing a tune. Saylor says "So Slate, if you're going to sing, would you mind walking on the other side of the street?" Slate says "Kate said it was our song. Now that I got the hang of it, I'm not going to let it go". Saylor says "How'd she teach it to you, in sign language?" Slate says "You don't understand a girl like Kate". Saylor says "I understood a girl like Kate from the time I understood about girls". Slate says "She's sensitive, refined, and throws nice parties. That dress she was wearing, knitted it with her own hands, she told me". Saylor says "Mm-hm. But how many stitches can a girl drop?" Slate says "You know, Saylor, I asked myself the same question". Saylor says "Oh, that's what you were doing with her on the balcony so long. Counting them, huh?" Slate says "You see how wrong you can be? All she was doing was giving me a choice". Saylor says "Yeah, we all noticed. You took vanilla". Slate continues singing. Saylor says "Oh no, not again, Slate. Look, we're home. It's late. You want the people in the hotel to wake up screaming?" Slate says "Now, look, Saylor..." She says "Just open the door". Just then, Officer Lasalle walks up and says "Do not trouble yourself with opening the door, Senor Shannon". Slate says "What are you doing here, Lasalle? It's the time of night that every little policeman should be home in bed". Lasalle says "You are gay, Senor. It grieves me to spoil such gaiety". Saylor says "See, Slate, you see what happens when you sing? You spoil gaiety". Lasalle says "It is much more grave than that, Senorita. It is you that we are concerned with the most, most gravely. You are under arrest". Saylor says "Look, I'm on your side. I tried to stop him". Slate says "You need sleep, Lasalle. You act crazy without it". Lasalle says "Into my car, please. And do not force me to waive my authority, this gun in your faces. You are wanted for questioning by Commissioner Rodriguez. I prefer to deliver you in peace to answer such questions. Understood? Si, it is understood".

Suspense - The Argyle Album
Friday Feb 13, 2026
Friday Feb 13, 2026
When Harry Mitchell got his first job as a reporter at The Herald newspaper, a man named Alan Pierce was the star reporter. Later, Pierce went to Washington and became the top dog of all syndicated political columnists. Pierce could tell the readers what the president said when he didn't like his breakfast, and who was getting paid off for what, by whom, and how much. He was a national big shot, so naturally his coming back to the hometown in January made the local front page, especially after what happened as his train was pulling into the station, Alan Pierce had a heart attack, and was checked in to the Belden General Hospital. For the previous two weeks, Pierce's newspaper columns had been building up to exposing the information from the pages of something called the Argyle Album. He had stated that the Teapot Dome Scandal was going to be a church club misunderstanding compared to this. Millions of readers were waiting for his promised expose of it's contents. At the hospital, reporters hung around the anti-room of his suite during visiting hours for three days. Finally, on the fourth day, Dr. Van Selvin stepped into the anti-room. He says "Good morning gentlemen. Today I'll allow you to see him one at a time. Oh, uh, that is, except the man from The Herald. Mr. Pierce asked expressly to see him first. Harry Mitchell says "Right over here, doctor". The doctor says "Do you want to come in now?" Mitchell says "Right with you, doctor. Uh, Pinky, come here. Dr. Van Selvin, this is Mr. Melvin Pinkus, the Herald's best photographer. He's very good for patients. I wonder if...." Doctor says "I'm afraid not, Mr. Mitchell". Harry says "Okay. Stand by Pinky". Mitchell goes into the room. Pierce says "Hello, there. Say, you're Harry Mitchell, aren't you?" Mitchell says "That's right, Mr. Pierce". He says "Just call me Al. I spoke to the old man on the phone. I said, "Send your next Alan Pierce over." And he sends you. Do you consider that a compliment?" Mitchell says "Compliment? I'm going to hit him for a nice fat raise". Pierce laughs and says "Well, I suppose you want to know what the Argyle Album is". Mitchell asks "Are you really going to tell me?"

Joe, Kate, and another man are standing in the hotel lobby when Miss Judith Morgan's taxi arrives. The other man says "She's here. Her taxi just pulled up in front". Joe says "Now, Kate, you know what to do". Kate says "Yes". Joe says "I'll make like a bell hop and help her with her bag". The other man says "Oh, it's going to be horrible, too horrible". Joe says "It can't be too horrible". As Judith is getting out of the taxi, Joe goes outside and says "Oh, just a moment, Miss. I'll take that bag for you". Judith says "Thank you". They walk into the hotel lobby. Kate is behind the front desk. Judith asks her "Do you have a vacant room?" Kate says "Yes, certainly. How long will you be staying?" Judith says "Well, just overnight I think". Kate asks "Will you sign the register, please?" Judith says "Yes, of course. There you are". Kate says "Thank you, Miss Judith Morgan from New York City. Joe, show Miss Morgan to Room Six". Joe says "Sure". Before leaving the front desk, Judith says "Excuse me, do you have a Mr. Bruce Mansfield registered?" Kate says "He hasn't arrived yet, Miss Morgan, but we're expecting him". Judith says "I see. Well, when Mr. Mansfield does arrive, will you let him know I'm here? It's important". Kate says "Certainly". Judith says "Thank you". Joe says "This way Miss, just follow me". As she leaves, the other man approaches Kate. She says "Well..." The other man says "Well, what?" Kate says "I'd say everything's working just as we planned. Wouldn't you say, Mr. Mansfield?" When they arrive at the room, Joe opens the door and says "Here we are, Miss. Room Six". Judith suddenly seems apprehensive about going inside. Joe asks "Something wrong, Miss?" Judith says "Well, I don't much care for this room, I think I'd like another". Joe says "I'm afraid there isn't another available, Miss". Judith says "Oh, I see". Joe says "I guess it isn't the best we have but it's the best we can do. You don't have to worry about the noise, that quiets down for the night at exactly at 10 minutes before 10 o'clock". Judith says "Noise? I don't hear any noise". Joe says "You will. You see, Miss, the hotel is close to the railroad tracks".

Matt Cvetic calls his mother on the telephone. She says "Son, how are you, son?" Matt says "I'm fine, Ma. Any messages for me?" She says "No, but there was a man here earlier this evening". Matt says "A man? One of my...." She says "Yes, one of them. One of those...." Matt says "Commies, you mean? Look, what did he say he wanted?" She says "He said something about a meeting at the studio tonight. Oh Matt, when are you going to come to your senses and break away from this terrible organization and move back here with the rest of us?" Matt says "Mom, we've been over all this before". She says "But those people are criminals. One was here, named Burkhead, or whatever his name was". Matt says "Burkhead... oh you mean Burkhardt?" She says "Yes, that was his name. You're not in trouble, are you?" Matt says "Of course not. Mom, I've got to be going now. I'll be calling you. Goodbye". The studio was a second-floor piano school on 9th Street. It was used for secret meetings sometimes in case the regular hall was wired. Two men, beside Burkhardt, were waiting for Matt there, Herb Bemis, chairman of the cell at the time, and Jason Cook, secretary. None of them looked friendly. Matt says "Sorry Herb, I didn't get home until late. Herb says "You have met Comrade Burkhardt, haven't you Cvetic?" Matt says "Yes, about eight months ago in New York. Possibly, you don't remember it comrade..." Burkhardt says "I remember it. Sit down. Take the chair at the end of the table". Matt says "Thanks" and sits down. Burkhardt says "Cvetic, did you say something about not getting home until late?" Matt says "That's right. Mom gave me the message so I came straight on down here". Burkhardt says "Comrade Cvetic, are you certain you even went home?" Matt says "What do you mean?" Herb says "Benny Lizotte was waiting for you all evening in a parked car in front of your house, Matt. He just phoned and said you still hadn't shown up". Matt says "Look, what is this? What difference does it make when I come home? And what's the idea of having Benny spying on me?" Burkhardt says "I'm sure none of us in the party would mind a little questioning from his leaders, unless he had something to hide".

Boston Blackie - Millicent Bromley Kidnapped
Tuesday Feb 10, 2026
Tuesday Feb 10, 2026
Inspector Faraday is talking to officers of the Homicide Department. He says "We have to find that woman, you understand. We have to find that girl!" Carlson says "Inspector Faraday, we can't hear you when you pound your desk like that". Faraday says "You'll pound a beat, if you don't find the Bromley girl, Carlson. And the same goes for the rest of you". An officer says "We're the Homicide Department. How come the pressure's on us to find her?" Faraday says "Because the pressure's on the whole force. What have we done so far?" Thompson says "We've got every radio car in the city in operation. We've called in all off duty men, and cancelled all...."Faraday says "I know what we've done, Thompson, and I know what we haven't done too. We haven't found Millicent Bromley. She's just a 22 year old, see. A girl who's done nobody any harm, see, and she's in the hands of thugs, see. Now, we're supposed to be policemen. We're supposed to protect the people of this city from accidents and crimes, yet we can't even help a 22 year old girl". Suddenly, Faraday's telephone starts ringing. He picks it up and says "Faraday speaking". The voice on the line says "Inspector Faraday, this is Shorty, you know, Boston Blackie's friend". Faraday says "Yeah, I know who you are, Shorty. So, don't bother me. I'm busy". Shorty says "Yeah, I know that, Inspector Faraday, that's why I'm calling. I can make you un-busy". Faraday says "Oh you can, can you? Well, isn't that nice. Now, look, Shorty, I've got...." Shorty says "You've got to listen to me, Inspector Faraday, Blackie's out of town...." Faraday says "Oh, Blackie's out of town is he? That's wonderful. Now, why don't you get out of town, too?" Shorty says "I just talked to Blackie's girlfriend, Mary Wesley. She talked to Blackie in California". Faraday says "So what? What do I care? I'm looking for a missing girl". Shorty says "I know you are. You're looking for Millicent Bromley". Faraday says "Yes I am. And I suppose you know right where she is". Shorty says "I sure do, Inspector Faraday. She's right here in my room".

Detective Sergeants Joe Friday and Ben Romero were working the night watch out of Robbery Detail. They were sitting in their car at the Sunset Drive-In restaurant when they received the call. The dispatcher says "All units in the vicinity of 1016 North McCadden Street, 484 PS (theft or larceny) and Code 3 (emergency response with lights and sirens). For more than a month, lone women throughout the western section of the city have been robbed and beaten. The descriptions were confused and varied because the attacks took place at night. At 10:06 PM, Friday and Romero arrived at the North McCadden location where the woman was lying on the sidewalk. She had been badly beaten about the face and neck and her jaw had been broken. Officers Reed and Shell of Unit 61F were already there. Romero asks "Are there any witnesses, officer?" Reed says "Yeah, this man in the sweater here, Mr. Conn, saw it happen. He says the victim's name is Mrs. Swanson". Friday says "Hello Mr. Conn. This is Sergeant Romero. My name's Friday. I wonder if we could talk to you, please?" Conn says "Yes, certainly. Do you want to come into the house?" Romero says "Right over here will be all right". Friday says "That officer there says that you saw it happen". Conn says "That's right. I was watching television, when I heard this scream outside. I looked out and saw these two men beating her up". Romero asks "Can you describe them?" Conn says "The light wasn't real good. They're about as tall as you two, but they had slighter builds". Friday asks "How old were they? Could you see that?" Conn says "I'd say they were young, maybe 18 or 19. I saw them knock her down. It was terrible. They hit her and then they kicked her. They picked up her purse and ran down that way". Romero asks "And you called the police?" Conn says "Yes, but not right away. I ran out and saw them get in the car across the street. They drove right past me. Then they turned east there on Romaine Street". Romero asks "Can you describe the car for us?" Conn says "I got the license number for you. The last three numbers were 552". Friday says "Just three numbers?" Conn says "Yes. California license plate. Do you think you'll catch them tonight?" Friday says "Do you know how many license plates end in 552?"

Night Beat - The Girl From Kansas
Monday Feb 09, 2026
Monday Feb 09, 2026
Randy Stone is at the police station to see his friend, Sergeant Kolski, who happened to be going to the early evening line-up (show up). So, Randy decided to tag along. The prisoners were all women of assorted sizes and ages. It seemed to be the usual cross-section on the police blotter of any large city, shoplifters, thieves, narcotics suspects, husband beaters, etc. However, there was one that caught Randy's attention. He says "How about the young one there?" Kolski says "Good looking kid, huh?" Randy says "Oh yeah. She doesn't seem to belong somehow". Kolski says "Ah, they all belong. Randy, you can't tell by how they look. That innocent looking doll with her baby blue eyes...." Randy says "Yeah, I know. Don't tell me. Probably killed her grandmother. Only two will get you five, whatever she did, it's a first offense. That kid looks half scared to death". Kolski says "Hey, you on the far end. What's your name?" She says "You mean me?" Kolski says "That's right". She says "I'm sorry I can't see you. These lights are so bright". Kolski says "You're not supposed to see me. Step out a little. What's your name?" She says "Linda Johnson. But I'm here by mistake. I don't belong here". Kolski says "You'll have a chance to explain in court. Why are you in here?" Linda says "I don't know. I just arrived in Chicago this morning and they arrested me". Kolski says "Well, when they booked you, what was the charge?" Linda suddenly starts crying. Kolski says "Alright, girls. That's all. That's all, matron". Randy says "Well, as I was saying, this kid undoubtedly polished off her grandmother with an axe". Kolski says "Alright, Randy. So, maybe it's the first offense, or even a mistake, but you haven't looked to see what the charge says". Randy says "Well, anyway, can I talk to her? It might be something for me". Kolski says "Sure. Go ahead to the women's division. Tell the matron I okayed it". Randy went to the woman's division. There was a lady cop at the desk. When Randy asked her about Linda Johnson, she says "You're a little late, Randy. She's being released". Randy says "I just saw her at the line-up (show up)". Lady cop says "That's right. But she's made bail since. I'll be bringing her out in a minute. Randy asks "What was she in for? Lady cop says "Grand theft. She swiped a fellow's wallet in a bar".

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes - The Engineer's Thumb
Saturday Feb 07, 2026
Saturday Feb 07, 2026
By the late summer of 1889, Dr. Watson, not long after his marriage, had returned to civil practice and finally abandoned Holmes in his Baker Street rooms. He lived a short distance from Paddington train station, and as a result, he got a few patients from amongst the officials there. One of these, whom Watson cured of a painful and lingering disease, was never weary of advertising Watson's virtues, and endeavored to send him every sufferer, over whom he might have an influence. One morning, Watson is awakened by the maid tapping at the door to announce that two men had come from Paddington, and are awaiting in the consulting room. As Watson came down the stairs, he was met by the train station guard, who says "Good morning, Doctor. He's in the consulting room. I thought it was best to put him in there". Watson says "Yes, of course". Watson walks in and says to the new patient "Good morning. Sorry to have kept you waiting. My name is Watson". The patient says "I'm sorry to have gotten you up so early". Watson says "That's quite alright, Mr...." The patient says "Hatherley, Victor Hatherley. I might also tell you that I'm a hydraulic engineer". Watson asks "What can I do for you, Mr. Hatherley?" He says "I've had a serious accident, do you see?" By his behavior, Watson can tell that Victor is in a state of shock, so he gives him a glass of brandy to help settle his nerves. Victor says "Thank you. Now, doctor, would you kindly attend to my thumb?" Watson says "Put your hands on the table. Good Heavens!" Victor says "Or rather, the place where my thumb used to be". Watson says "This is a terrible injury. It must have bled considerably". Victor says "Yes, it did. I fainted when it was done. When I came to, it was still bleeding". Watson says "This was done by a heavy and sharp instrument". Victor says "It seemed like a cleaver". Watson says "An accident, you had". Victor says "By no means. I was attacked". Watson says "Attacked?" Victor says "I shall have to tell my tale to the police. But, between ourselves, if it were not for the evidence of this convincing wound of mine, I should be surprised if they believe my statement".

Dangerous Assignment - Prevent Disclosure of Compromised Codes
Saturday Feb 07, 2026
Saturday Feb 07, 2026
Agent Steve Mitchell walks into the Commissioner's office and says "Morning Commissioner, Ruth said you had an assignment for me". The Commissioner says "I do, Steve. Suppose you had a secret code, and you suddenly found out that a hostile country had succeeded in deciphering it. What would you do?" Steve says "Well, I'd quit using that particular code". Commissioner asks "Would you?" Steve says "Oh...wait a minute. If I knew that they'd broken the code, but they didn't know I knew, I think I'd keep on using it". Commissioner asks "Why?" Steve says "Well, that way I could send a lot of phony information that would probably tie up their strategy". Commissioner says "That's absolutely right, Steve and, that's just what's been going on for the last six months. We found out from a very secret source that a certain country had broken one of our diplomatic codes. One we've been using with the French government". Steve says "And we've been using that same code since, sending false information?" Commissioner says "Yes, we've managed to mislead that particular country on several vital issues during that period". Steve says "Well, it sounds like a pretty neat little racket". Commissioner says "It is indeed and we'd like to keep it going as long as possible but, obviously, the success of it depends on their not knowing that we know they've broken our code. And that's why the whole thing is hanging in the balance right now". Steve says "You mean they found out?" Commissioner says "Not yet, but unless we can prevent it, they're going to find out very soon". Steve asks "How do you mean?" Commissioner says "Somewhere along the line here in the States has been a leak. Steve, somebody found out our little secret and right now is on route to a meeting with a representative from that other country to sell them that secret". Steve says "Oh great, who is this guy and where is he now?" Commissioner says "We think that he or she is in London at the moment. Steve, we haven't the slightest idea who this person is, or where the meeting is taking place". Steve asks "Do we have any agents there?" Commissioner says "Yes, Slater's there at the Regency Hotel. Get over there and work with him. We must find out who this person is, and prevent this meeting from taking place".

The Adventures of the Falcon - The Case of the Shopkeeper's Gun
Saturday Feb 07, 2026
Saturday Feb 07, 2026
It's Sunday night in a midtown hotel room in New York City. Ed Taylor looks with bored and sleepy eyes at a young man named George Conrad, who is pacing the floor in front of him. Taylor says "Sit down, Conrad, give your feet a rest". Conrad says "You haven't given me your answer yet. Do I get my money back or don't I?". Taylor says "I'll think about it". Conrad says "What's to think? You gave me a rook. Either you make good on it or...." Taylor says "Or what?" Conrad says "Do I get my money?" Taylor says "Come here, Conrad". He asks "What do you want?" Taylor says "To tell you something". As Conrad comes near, Taylor suddenly grabs Conrad's gun from his pocket. Conrad says "Hey, what's the idea? What are you trying to do?" Taylor says "Just taking precautions. So, you brought a gun with you". Conrad says "I wasn't going to use it unless I had to". Taylor says "Had to?" Conrad says "To protect myself". Taylor says "Well, now that you don't have any protection, don't you think it's a little dangerous to hang around here?" Conrad says "I'll get a lawyer". Taylor says "If a lawyer could do you any good, you wouldn't have come up here throwing your weight around. Shall I show you out or throw you out?" Conrad says "Alright, Taylor, you win this round...." Taylor says "I win them all, pal, so you might as well throw in the towel, unless you want to see what it feels like to get counted out". Conrad, as he walks out of the room, says "We'll see about that. Goodbye, Taylor". As he leaves, Frank Moody walks in from the adjoining room. Taylor says "Dumb jerk. He had a gun like you said he would. I wonder if he'll try anything else?" Moody says "I doubt it, as long as he doesn't know we're working together. Well, let's see the gun". Taylor hands it to him and says "Did you hear all he said in the other room?". Moody says "Yeah". As Moody is looking at the gun, Taylor says "He probably won't quit. You'd better have a talk with him tomorrow to see if he's planning anything". Moody says "Well, maybe it won't be necessary. I have thought of one way I can kill two birds with one stone, or one bullet". Taylor says "You're not going to kill him, are you?" Moody says "No, Taylor, I'm not. I'm going to kill you".

Tales of the Texas Rangers - The White Suit
Friday Feb 06, 2026
Friday Feb 06, 2026
It is 6:00 AM, June 23rd. There is only one prisoner in the Live Oak County Jail. He is John Elliot Bascom, a notorious and dangerous gunman. In the anti room connecting the jail with the sheriff's office, Deputy George Keaton dozes, snoring at the end of a long and uneventful night's duty. Suddenly, there is a knock on the door. A voice says "Mister George?" Keaton wakes up and says "Oh, hello Uncle Ben. You still here?" Ben says "Yes, sir. That prosecutor's office down the hall was powerful dirty. Bob's ready to go along home now as soon as I hang up my marks, but I brewed this here coffee for you". Keaton says "Coffee? Put it here. Uncle Ben, you're an angel". Ben says "Don't know about that, Mister George. Hey, just put the pot and cup in my closet when you're through. I'll take care when I come on tonight". Keaton says "Sure. Thank you, Uncle Ben". The prisoner Bascom yells "Hey, Jailer" Keaton says "What's the matter with you now, Bascom?" He says "Take a look. The cell floor is wet. Water's running all over". As he is walking toward the cell, Keaton says "This building's so old, it's a wonder it doesn't all come apart". Bascom says "It's all over the floor. What a crummy joint". Keaton says "All right. All right. You keep back, Bascom". He says "Don't worry. You can do the wading. I'm not putting my feet down in that water". Keaton says "Stay there in your bunk. I'll see what's the matter. Let's see what's wrong with it. Why you! You're undershirt's stuffed in the drain!" The fight starts, and shots are heard! Sheriff Chris Olsen discovered the bodies of his night deputy and the courthouse janitor when he came into his office at 8:00 o'clock. He immediately telephones the Texas Rangers. And a short time later, Ranger Jace Pearson arrives. Sheriff Olsen says "Jase Pearson, I am glad to see you". Jase says "It's been quite a while, Sheriff". He says "Jace, this is a bad thing". Jace says "Anything involving Bascom is. You got any line on him yet? Sheriff says "No. Apparently, he slipped out of town on foot. We don't even know what direction he took".

Michael Shayne, Private Detective - Judge Stanton Murdered
Friday Feb 06, 2026
Friday Feb 06, 2026
This evening, Mike Shayne and his assistant Phyllis Knight have put work behind them. They're about to leave their office in the Russ Building to meet their old friends, Inspector and Mrs. Faraday for an evening at the movies. Mike says "Hey, hurry it up, honey, they'll be waiting for us". Phyllis says "Just a second. You know, it'll be fun to see Mrs. Faraday again. It's been a week since I've heard any of her Irish stories". Mike says "Yeah, it's been weeks, months since Faraday and I manage the same evening off. I must be taking a holiday in our town". Phyllis says "All set, Mike. How does my hat look?" Just then, the office phone starts ringing. Phyllis says "Oh, pretend we didn't hear it. Come on, Mike". He says "Don't worry. It's not a client, it's after hours". Mike picks up the phone and says "Hello?" Faraday says "Mike, it's up, I can't go". Mike says "Oh now, Faraday". Inspector says "This is something special. Federal Judge Stanton has just been murdered. Come down to headquarters, Mike. I'm afraid this is more than straight murder". Mike asks "What do you mean?" Faraday says "I'm not sure myself. Just get down here". A few minutes later, Mike and Phyllis walk into the police station. Faraday says "Hey, Mike, fellows, come in". Phyllis says "You look all frazzled, Inspector". Faraday says "I am, Phyllis, I'm worried, plenty worried". Mike says "Well come on, give with the details. When was Judge Stanton murdered?" Faraday says "Less than an hour ago, near as we can tell. I just got back from his house. But first, Mike, take a look at these fingerprint cards on my desk". Mike reads the information on the card "Fingerprints found at robbery, Jackson Street, night of the 17th". Faraday says "And this one". Mike reads "House breaking, Van Ness Avenue, night of the 21st". Faraday says "And there's two more". Phyllis says "But they're burglaries, Inspector. What's the tie up with Judge Stanton?" Faraday says "The judge was shot, Phyllis, but his house was robbed too. The prints at the scene, plus all of these other fingerprints belong to Victor Ratner. These burglaries took place last month, but Ratner was released from the penitentiary only two days ago.

Broadway is My Beat - The Georgia Gray Murder Case
Wednesday Feb 04, 2026
Wednesday Feb 04, 2026
Detective Danny Clover receives a call about a girl being stabbed at a dime-a-dance palace on Broadway. He is met at the door by the hostess, Fran. Danny says "Someone called and said a girl was hurt". Fran says "It was me. I called. Sure you don't want to dance with one of those girls first?" Danny says "Where is she?" Fran says "You're a square policeman. Come on, I'll take you to her. Georgia's the neat type, don't like to spoil the fun. That's why she picked the lonesome lounge to die in. You got it picked out where you're going to die? You should, you really should. The lounge with the beaded curtains, with Georgia". Danny says to Fran "Get on, go dance". Georgia says "It's all right, Danny". He sees her, and says "You? You, Georgia?" She says "It's me, Danny. Fran can stay, she's my good friend". Danny says "Who did it, Georgia?" She says "A dancer, keen dancer. You should have been here for his Mambo dance. It was a show". Danny says "He stabbed you, Georgia. That makes it all right to tell me. Who was it?" Georgia says "He bought five dollars worth of tickets. A man like that, you feel you know. Don't ask his name". Danny picks up a knife laying next to her and asks "With this knife?" Georgia says "Yeah, wild dancing. I'm keeping it for a souvenir. Make sure it's with me in the coffin, huh Danny? Promise?" Danny says "You're a long way from home, Georgia. What brought you here?" She says "I like it here. Come here a lot. It's peaceful. The man blows the bugle so peaceful. Listen to it, Danny. A girl feels young again with music like that. A girl feels young again". After that the place got cluttered up. People started to come into the lounge. Policemen with notebooks, a woman in a tweed suit with a press card in her hat band, a couple of men with a stretcher. The only thing the doctor picked up on his stethoscope was a trumpet blowing what is called the blues because there was no heartbeat from Georgia Gray. She was dead, and Danny had to find out why.

Nick Carter, Master Detective - Death Goes to the Post
Wednesday Feb 04, 2026
Wednesday Feb 04, 2026
It's near the end of the racing season in World City. Nick and Pasty are walking back to Nick's office when Nick suddenly seizes Patsy's arm and says "Hold it, Patsy". She says "What's the matter, Nick?" He says "That woman coming out of the pawn shop looks familiar, but I can't place her." Patsy says "She's a good-looking woman. Although, if that blonde hair of hers is natural, I'm a Chinese grandmother". Nick says "She doesn't seem to be connected with crime in any way, yet look who's trailing her, Benny Wretzel. I know him right enough". Patsy says "He's a private cop for the Mutual Protective Agency, isn't he?" Nick says "Yes, and they're a choice outfit not to get mixed up with. Their slogan is you marry them and we trail them". Patsy says "Well, let them go. What do we care who's getting married or divorced? We can just mind our own business...." Nick says "I'm going in the pawn shop. Want to ask a few questions". Patsy asks "But why? What's it to us?" Nick says "Oh, probably nothing. Just curious to know who that woman was". Patsy says "Go ahead. Make a fool of yourself. She's probably nobody". Nick enters the pawn shop and recognizes the man behind the counter. He says "Well, Mr. Carter's here". Nick says "Oh, so it's you, Al". Al says "Yeah, I swear to you though, I ain't guilty". Nick says "What's this you're not guilty of?" Al says "Whatever you say I've done, I ain't". Nick says "You probably have at that, but that's not why I'm here. Who was that good-looking blonde that just went out of here? I should know her, but I don't". Al says "Such a one she is. The wife of Colonel Pembert, no less". Patsy says "Colonel Pembert, the big horse race man?" Al says "Yeah, that's the one. You know, if I was a betting man, Carter, which I ain't, I'd see if the Colonel had a horse running at the track this afternoon, and I'd put a bet down on him". Nick asks "What's the story?" Al says "It's just a hunch, that's all. But, when a dame asks me to give her 3,000 dollars on a string of pearls worth maybe 10,000, and swears she'll redeem them in twenty four hours, and if she's married to a string of fast horses, well, you can make your own guess".

Walk Softly, Peter Troy - The Black-eyed Susan Brown
Wednesday Feb 04, 2026
Wednesday Feb 04, 2026
Susan Brown, a raven haired beauty with fascinating black eyes, came into Peter's office the same day she had a falling out with a creep named Jerry the Snip, whose real name is Gerald Fortescue Pandennis, of all things. Susan managed to persuade a reluctant Julie to show her into my office. Julie says "This is Miss Susan Brown, Mr. Troy. She doesn't have an appointment but I felt sure you'd want to see her". Peter says "I wonder why? How do you do Miss Brown? Won't you sit down? Susan says "You're quite wrong. You know I will sit down". Peter says "Oh, so yeah, well that's fine. I expect you'll be taking notes as usual, Miss Summers?" Julie says "How right you are about that, Mr. Troy". Peter says "Yeah, now how can I help you Miss Brown?" Susan says "It's really Mrs. Pendennis". Peter says "Oh, I'm sorry to hear that". Susan says "What?" Peter says "I'm sorry Mrs. Pandennis, but I'm very busy just now...." Susan says "But it's a very simple job, really. I'd do it myself, but I just hate making all those inquiries and wandering about Soho. You know how it is, a woman alone". Peter says "Well, I've never been with a woman when she's alone, but I can guess what you mean. Yeah, well um maybe you better tell me what it is you want me to do". Julie says "Mr Troy...." Peter says "Relax, Miss Summers relax. Just take notes". Susan says "All I want you to do is find my husband". Peter says "Oh. Yeah, well maybe that's different. At least it all depends on how difficult he is to find". Susan says "You should find him very easily. I have reason to believe he's hiding out in the underworld somewhere". Peter says "In the...the underworld? You mean he's a crook?" Susan says "Well no, it's just that he has some underworld contacts, you know. He's a caterer and he supplied many of the clubs and restaurants owned by underworld characters". Peter asks "Yeah, but what's he doing hiding out among them?" Susan says "I expect he imagined it was the best way to get away from me. You see we've been separated for quite a time now and he owes me a lot of money". Peter says "Alimony?" Susan says "Maintenance. We're not divorced".

Mr. and Mrs. North - The Witness
Wednesday Feb 04, 2026
Wednesday Feb 04, 2026
On a Friday evening, Jerry North is driving home from work through the heavy traffic. In the car with him is Paul Andrews. Jerry says "Your place is in the next block, isn't it, Andrews?" Paul says "Yes, Mr. North, but you can drop me off at the corner. I have to stop at the grocery". Jerry says "Okay". Paul says "I'll have those figures you asked me for, first thing Monday morning. I'm going to work on them at home this weekend". Jerry says "Oh, fine, but don't worry about them, Andrews. No rush". Paul says "You can pull up right here, Mr. North. Well, thanks for the lift". Jerry says "Don't mention it. See you Monday". Paul gets out, walks into the store, and says "Good evening, Mr. Samuels". Samuels says "Good evening, Mr. Andrews. I've got your order right here. Ready to go". At that moment, the telephone starts ringing. Samuels says "Oh, excuse me". He picks up the receiver and says "Samuels Grocery. Oh, hello, Mrs. Andrews. Mr. Andrews is here now. He just walked in. Sure you can". Samuels hands the phone to Paul. He says "Hello, Doris". She says "Paul, you're early". He says "Mr. North gave me a lift". Doris says "Oh, I was calling Mr. Samuels to have him add a pound of coffee to the order". Paul says "Coffee? All right. Anything else?" Doris says "No, that's all, dear". Paul says "Okay, be right home". Just then, two young men walk into the store. Samuels says "Be with you boys in just a minute". One of them, named Ace, rushes up to the counter and says "You'll take care of us right now, Dad". Samuels says "What?" Ace says "Just leave the cash register open". Samuels says "What is this?" Ace says "What does it look like, man?" Samuels says "Now, see here...." Ace says "Hand over that dough, Dad, Put it in this paper sack, and do it quick". He turns to Paul and says "And you, man, let us have your wallet, huh?". Samuel says "Here, here, you rotten little scum". Ace says "What did you call me?" Samuels says "You heard me". A scuffle soon breaks out and a shot is heard!

Whitehall 1212 - The Case of Maggie Ralenson
Monday Feb 02, 2026
Monday Feb 02, 2026
Two miles north of the town of Moffat, which is in Dumfriesshire in Scotland, the main road from Carlisle to Edinburgh crosses a ravine where a small stream runs to the River Annan through a remarkably peaceful countryside. On the morning of the 29th of September, some years ago, several crudely wrapped bundles were observed lying on the banks of the ravine below the road. From one of the bundles protruded a human arm. The initial investigation left the Dumfriesshire Constabulary in a state of confusion and horror. Captain Lionel Watt, the Chief Constable of Lancaster was at the Moffat police station when Sergeant Barnes made his first report. Barnes says "Four bundles, one wrapped in the Daily Herald, the London laborite newspaper, the second wrapped in a pillow slip, the third in a portion of cotton sheeting, and the fourth in another piece of sheeting tied up with, what appears to be, the hem torn from the sheet. All the bundles contained pieces of people, to which straw was adhering. And a large quantity of cotton wool also. As nearly as we can tell, there are parts of at least two bodies. It's impossible at present to identify them. It's impossible even to determine the sex of the bodies or their approximate ages. By the appearance of the bodies, the medical officer thinks that they've been dead about two weeks, but he doesn't know for certain. He is sorting them out now". During the week, other parcels were discovered along the course of the stream and along the banks of the River Annan, all on the Scottish side of the border. Later, Captain Watt receives a telephone call from Sergeant Barnes. He says "We don't think our friends are Scottish folk, sir". Watt says "Well, that's quite a statement, Sergeant, when you can't even tell whether they're male or female". Barnes says "Well, sir, we've been making inquiries ever since the first parcel was found and according to our records there hasn't been anybody missing in Dumfriesshire in eleven years who's not accounted for.

The Line-Up - The Nicely Nixed Nixon Case
Sunday Jan 25, 2026
Sunday Jan 25, 2026
The potential witness, Mr. Bomash, is escorted by Sergeant Quine to the line-up audience room where Lieutenant Ben Guthrie is waiting to meet him. Guthrie says "How do you do, Mr. Bomash?" He says "I'm still a little nervous, Lieutenant". Guthrie says "Why, sure you are. We can sit right here". Bomash says "This isn't exactly the kind of day I want to remember". Quine asks "Need me, Lieutenant?" Guthrie says "No, thanks". Quine says "I'll see you then. Goodbye, Mr. Bomash". He says "Oh, goodbye Sergeant. I wish he'd been at my place this afternoon when it happened". Guthrie says "So do I". As Sergeant Grebb starts the line-up procedure, Guthrie says "Mr. Bomash, we picked up a couple of men in the neighborhood that you might recognize. Now, just take your time and look them over". Bomash says "I do my best but you know how it was". Guthrie says "Yes, certainly". A minute or two into the session, Bomash asks Guthrie "Didn't you say these same men had held up another loan office?" Guthrie says "Yeah, the day before yesterday". Bomash asks "Why is it the other man who was robbed isn't here tonight?" Guthrie says "He was killed, Mr. Bomash". The next morning, Guthrie is in his office. He says "Hi Matt" as Sergeant Grebb enters. Grebb says "Good morning, Ben". Guthrie says "I have to be in court pretty soon". Grebb says "Oh, that Brusery case you told me about. Well, Bomash didn't do us any good last night, huh?" Guthrie says "Nothing. Those guys sure know what they're doing. They tell their victims to turn around and face the wall before anybody gets a peak". Grebb says "Two medium-sized guys in dark suits. Ha, that's something to go on". Guthrie says "Well, one of them is called Orchid. They've robbed two loan officers and killed one man. We've got to stop them, Matt". Grebb says "1,280 bucks in four days". Guthrie hands Grebb some papers and says "This is a list of every small loan office in the city. These two birds seem to like that kind of pickings best, so let's lay it out and have the cars keep an eye on them". Grebb says "Okay, anything else?" Guthrie says "Nothing until I'm finished at the court".

A traveling man walks into the Palace Hotel in Web City. The desk clerk says "Yes, sir?" The man says "My name is Edward Wilton. I've got a reservation. Desk Clerk says "Oh, yes, Mr. Wilton. Single room and bath. The rate is 4.50. Sign here". Edward says "4.50? You boys seem to have a Ritz complex". Desk Clerk says "The Palace Hotel may not be as big as the Ritz, but it's the biggest and best in Web City, Mr. Wilton, and we don't mind letting foreigners know it". Edward says "Foreigners? Two hundred miles from Chicago and you're out of the country, huh?" Clerk says "You want the room or don't you?" Edward says "Of course, I want it. Don't get sore, I was just pulling your leg a little. Let's have that pen, huh? There you are, my friend. Edward Wilton, Esquire, Middle Western sales representative for Ideal Air Incorporated. The air conditioning of the future". Clerk says "Is that what you sell, young man?" Edward says "What else would bring me to a burg like this". Clerk asks "What's that? Edward says "I said I never saw a town like this. Yes, I'll bet a lonesome young guy might have a little fun, if he knew the right people". Clerk says "Nothing much to do in Web City at this hour, especially on a Tuesday night". Edward asks "What does a man do to get a beer, for instance?" Clerk says "Well, there's Dib's Place just down the street to the right. Although you might not like the crowd. Most of them are mill hands and their girlfriends. They keep the jukebox going till way after midnight". Edward says "Oh my, You don't say!". Clerk says "Are you trying to kid me, young fellow?" Edward says "Wouldn't think of it for the world". Clerk says "If there's anything I hate, it's a fresh salesman. You fellas think you own the world". Edward says "No offense". Clerk asks "What's that you got hanging on your wrist?" Edward says "Oh, this. That's an identification bracelet. Lots of people wear them these days. Sophisticated people, that is". Clerk says "Like you, I suppose". Edward says "You know, you're not very polite to the customers. Uh, better not let the boss catch you talking to his favorite clients that way. He might can you". Clerk says "Is that so?" Edward says "Yes, I happen to know him personally". Clerk says "Well, I happen to be the boss, and chief desk clerk. The name is Grimes".

In New York City, two men, complete strangers to each other, are determined to see a certain Mr. Andrew Colby. One of them, an elderly and haggard man named Leopold Croner, has just stepped off the train in Grand Central Station and was met by his daughter, Martha. She asks "Oh Father, are you are you sure you're all right?" Croner says "I'm all right, Martha". She says "You should have let me come up to meet you". Croner says "To see me get out of prison? It's not a sight I'd want you to remember". Martha says "You're free now, Father. That's all that matters". Croner asks "Where is Mr. Colby? He didn't come here?" Martha asks "Did you expect him?" Croner says "Yes, of course I did". Martha says "Father, please don't upset yourself. Let's go home now". Croner says "He should have been here. I must see him, Martha. I must see him". Meanwhile, the other man, named Robert Reagan, that is intent on seeing Mr. Colby is now in the offices of Colby Enterprises. Colby's secretary asks "Is there something I can do for you?" Reagan says "Any number of things, but unfortunately I'm here on business. I'd like to see Mr. Colby". Secretary says "If you have any business with him...." Reagan says "Don't bother, I can announce myself". As he walks into Colby's office, She says "Mr. Colby's busy, you can't go in there". Reagan says "Don't blame your secretary, Mr. Colby, she did her best". Colby says "I trust this is something urgent". Reagan says "I'm Robert Reagan, the attorney representing Emilio Canepa. As a result of your negligent driving, his push-cart and load of bananas were damaged the extent of 68 dollars and 72 cents. You ignored my letters, Mr. Colby, so try ignoring this summons". Colby says "I assure you, Mr. Reagan, it wasn't my intention to defraud your client. I turned the letters over to my attorneys, Porter and Griswold". Reagan says "Porter and Griswold? They wouldn't take a bath unless it involved at least a hundred thousand dollars". Colby says "I think you may have a point there. Anyway, I'll see that Mr. Canepa gets a check and a letter congratulating him on his choice of attorney". Reagan says "Thank you". Colby asks "Do you always attend to these matters personally? Reagan says "I thought my client was getting pushed around, Mr. Colby, and I didn't like that".

Let George Do It - Tune on a Triangle
Friday Jan 23, 2026
Friday Jan 23, 2026
George receives a letter that reads "Dear Mr. Valentine, that ad of yours gets me. No job too tough for you to handle. Well, I don't believe it. I got a tiger that I'll bet you can't handle. Yeah, you read it right, a tiger. So unless you're just whistling in the wind, stick around your office tonight. Meet me around 7:30. I got a wife and kids to worry about, so don't fail me. Signed, Jerry Brisken". That night, George and Brooksie are waiting for Jerry to show up, and it's after 8:00 o'clock. George says "His letter says around 7:30. How many stripes on a tiger?" Brooksie says "Forty, George. He's only forty minutes late". George says "Why is it, Brooksie, we never get letters that tell us anything. If he's got a case, why doesn't he say so? Changes his mind maybe, who knows. Want to bet he never even shows up tonight?" At that moment, the phone starts ringing. Brooksie says "Five dollars. I'll bet five dollars". George answers the phone "Hello?" The voice on the line says "Valentine, it's Brisken". George says "You're late". Brisken says "I just want to make sure you're still in the office. I got held up. Couldn't get into your building cause of the crowds". George says "Slow down, will you? What crowds?" Brisken says "Look, just sit tight, will you? I'll be right there, honest I will". George says "Sure. Bring your tiger too, but what's this about?" Brisken says "Oh, just the crowd. I don't know, something going on. Police and everything. But I'll come around the back way". George says "Hey look, Brisken, you...." Brisken hangs up the phone. Brooksie says "Well, you owe me five dollars, don't you?" George says "Not yet, I don't". George goes to the window and opens it. Brooksie says "What are you gonna do, jump out the window to avoid paying me? George, what's going on?" He says "I don't know. The street seems to be roped off down there". Brooksie says "There are no fire engines". George says "Yes, there is. One small one, see it? They got a searchlight pointed up to.... " Suddenly, a loud scream is heard! Brooksie says "What in the name of....". George says "Brooksie, look. Around there to the right. It's a woman on the ledge!"

The FBI in Peace and War - Double Play
Thursday Jan 22, 2026
Thursday Jan 22, 2026
Sid Romer, alias Luke Welker, had a harried and unprofitable career as a petty grifter until one particular day in July of last year. On that day, as he was leaving a ballpark, Romer found himself besieged by youthful autograph seekers who, as it turned out, had mistaken him for Luke Welker. This unexpected affinity with the well-known baseball player set the machinery spinning in Romer's warped brain and changed his career on the spot. From that moment on as Luke Welker's double, he and his attractive wife, Vera, began working a brand new kind of statistic into the record book. Vera portrayed herself as Luke Welker's unmarried sister. Together, they were currently working the con on a man named Walter Bower from Oklahoma. Walter presses the buzzer to Sid and Vera's apartment. Over the intercom, Vera says "Yes, who is it?" Walter says "It's me Vera, Walter. You want me to come up?" Vera says "Oh no I'm all ready, Walter. Be right down". Walter says "Don't be long now, the game starts 8:00 o'clock sharp". Vera says "I won't be. Call a cab. I'll be down a minute". Sid says "Now that was real nice of you, honey". Vera says "Sure, a guy his age shouldn't have to climb four flights. Zip me up, huh?" Sid says "You know you look pretty fancy for a ball game. Why don't you doll up like that when you go stepping out with me?" Vera says "Doll up for my brother? Stop looking and zip". Sid says "A pleasure. Where's he taking you anyway?" Vera says "The stadium, where else?" Sid says "I mean after". Vera says "You tell me". Sid says "Well, if I were Walter Bower, and he was anything like me..." Vera says "He isn't thank heaven. Walter is a perfect gentleman. He's here for a business convention and just lonely. All he wants is company, with another baseball fan". Sid says "Yeah, I know the type. You better get downstairs. Vera says "Yeah, I don't think he'd be so good if he came up looking for me. Besides, you're playing tonight aren't you?" Sid says "My double is. I'll tune in on the TV and see how I make out". As Vera's leaving, she says "You know something honey, it's really remarkable how you can look so much like the guy and still can't tell first base from home plate". Sid says "Yeah it is remarkable, but I can always tell a sucker when I see one".

Escape - Finger of Doom
Thursday Jan 22, 2026
Thursday Jan 22, 2026
Kenny was getting impatient waiting for his fiancée Stephanie to get off work. They were to be married in two weeks, and he had a couple of free tickets to a good show and was picking her up at her office for dinner. Finally, there she was. Her blonde hair piled on her head, her blue eyes shining, and carrying a package. Stephanie says "Hi, darling". Kenny asks "What's that?" She says "Have I kept you waiting long? I tried to hurry all I could. This? It's just a package. I promised his nibs I'd deliver it on the way home". Kenny says "But you're not going home, we're eating out and going to a show and..." Stephanie says "But it's right on the way. I have to leave it at a flat in Martin Street. It won't take a minute. Kenny says "Oh, okay, come on. Let's make like delivery boys. What's the address?" Stephanie says "Mr. Miller, 415 Martin Street, Apartment 4F" Kenny says "We're on our way". A short time later, Kenny says "This sure is a frowsy neighborhood". Stephanie says "Everybody can't be rich, you know. 411, 413, Oh, there it is". Kenny says "Yeah. Some clients your boss must have. I'll be glad when you aren't working for him anymore. Oh, did you give him your notice?" Stephanie says "Yesterday. He gave me the funniest look". Kenny says "Here it is. Okay, give it to the hall man or the janitor or somebody and let's get going". Stephanie says "Oh, no. I've got to take it up personally and get a receipt. Besides, there doesn't seem to be anybody here. It's one of those push button doors. What did I say the name was again?" Kenny says "Muller or something, wasn't it?" Stephanie says "I don't know what I'd do without you. 4A, 4B, 4C. Oh, here it is. 4F. No wonder I couldn't find it. The name card's fallen out. Oh, this must be the button. You wait down here for me. I won't be a minute". The door opened, and Kenny watched her through the glass. She got into the little self-service elevator and closed the door. Then she was gone. Kenny lit a cigarette and waited. Five or ten minutes later, he finished the cigarette. Nothing happened. Kenny wondered what could be taking so long. Becoming impatient, he pushed the button for apartment 4F, but got no answering buzz. Kenny kept ringing it, holding his thumb down on the button. Still no answer. Now, Kenny began to get scared.

The Crime Club - Sentence of Death
Thursday Jan 22, 2026
Thursday Jan 22, 2026
Paul Remson was elected to the Supreme Court bench by the people of his county in November. He was sworn in in January and by April he was already one of the most popular judges in the county. It was late afternoon, Court had adjourned for the day and Judge Remson was in chambers, putting some papers into his briefcase when Senior Judge Graham Palmer walked in and sat down in the chair alongside Judge Paul Remson's desk. Paul asks "What's the matter, Graham? He says "I'm glad you're still here, Paul, Have you heard the news about Sam Howard?" Paul says "Why, no". Graham says "He had a stroke". Paul says "Oh, good lord. How bad was it?" Graham says "The doctor believes he'll be all right, but he'll have to rest a long time". Paul says "Oh naturally, the longer the better". Graham says "Yes, but in the meantime we have the problem of what to do with Sam's calendar. I phoned Allerton County to send us a judge, but, well nothing doing until the middle of next week". Paul says "Well now, if there's any part of Sam's work you'd like me to take over...." Graham says "There is Paul. A matter that's scheduled for tomorrow morning". Paul says "Of course, what is it?" Graham says "The people versus Martin Rivers". Paul says "Martin Rivers, oh..." Graham says "I know how you feel about such matters and I'd do it myself, Paul, but the Governor's appointed me to a special Board of Inquiry. We start hearings the first thing in the morning". Paul says "Yes, Graham, I don't know if it's in me to send a man to his death". Graham says "Even if the law says you must?" Paul says "But it's capital punishment, Graham. I've always been against it". Graham says "But it's the law, my friend. You've taken an oath to uphold it. Martin Rivers was tried and convicted of murder in the first degree. The sentence of death is mandatory under the laws of this state". Paul says "I know that". Graham says "It's our duty to impose that sentence whether we like it or not, until the law has changed". Paul says "Give me a chance to think about it, will you?" Graham says "Of course, and if you find that you can't go through with it?" Paul says "I'll resign from the bench".

Wednesday Jan 21, 2026
Wednesday Jan 21, 2026
Early afternoon, in the Blue Note Cafe. Ethelbert, the head bartender, is engaged in conversation with Archie, a rather weak-looking young man and Mildred, a very good-looking young woman. When the street door opens, Casey and Miss Anne Williams enter. Ethelbert says "Wow, look who's here". Casey and Anne say "Hi Ethelbert" He says "Hi Casey and Miss Williams". Casey sees Archie and says "Huh? Doggone. How are you, Archie?" He says "Fine. And you?" Casey says "I feel better when spring comes". The good looking young woman says "Don't you remember me, Casey?" He says "Mildred". She says "Hello". Casey says "Well, what do you know? Say you look like a million in that mink coat". Ethelbert says "I gather you know these folks, Casey". He says "I've known Archie ever since he was a punk in grammar school, Ethelbert, and Miss Sells, here .... ". Mildred says "Our acquaintance goes back only a few years to the Warren affair". Casey says "Yeah. Oh, excuse me, Miss Anne Williams, Miss Mildred Sells". Anne says "Hello, Miss Sells". Mildred says "How do you do?" Casey says "And Archie Purcell". He says "A pleasure, Miss Williams". Casey says "You know Archie's father, Annie. He's one of our favorite cops". Anne says "Not Lieutenant Purcell?" Archie says "He's my old man". Anne says "Well, we have a great admiration for your father". Archie says "He's quite a guy". Casey says "They don't come any better". Archie says "Well, Miss Sells and I must be running along. We have a date". Mildred says "Yes. It was nice meeting you, Miss Williams. See you again, Casey". He says" That goes double". Archie says "Well, see all of you again. They all say "Bye, So long". Ethelbert says "There goes one beautiful babe, Casey. He says "Yeah, she's dynamite, too. I mean that literally. You know, she's a stooge for old Iron Hat, Tim Lansing". Anne says "The political leader?" Casey says "Yes, sir. The boss. The big crook under the old-fashioned derby who protects professional gambling in this mid-town section".

Mr. Chameleon - The Case of the Game of Death
Tuesday Jan 20, 2026
Tuesday Jan 20, 2026
In an elegant suite of the Coronet Hotel on Fifth Avenue, Lois Cunningham is weeping and crying out to her sister, Helene Cunningham. Lois says "Helene, I'm not a baby. It's only ten o'clock , and I have a right to go out and enjoy myself, haven't I?" Helene says "No you haven't, Lois, not if you're going to play bridge for money". Lois says "But that's ridiculous. You do it yourself all the time. Last month you paid the rent here with the money you made playing bridge. You're always next door playing with the Smalley's, and just because they asked me to a couple of parties". Helene says "You're too young for that sort of thing. You're only twenty, Lois. Since Dad and Mother died, I've had to look after you, and I intend to go on doing it whether you like it or not". Lois says "But the Smalley's have been so kind to us". Helene says "I didn't say they weren't, I simply said that I won't have you playing cards for money". At that moment, the doorbell rings. Helene says "I'll answer that, and don't think I've finished with you, I haven't". Lois says "It may be Edgar". Helene says "I hope it's Edgar. The sooner you marry him, the better I'll be pleased. Helene opens the door and says "Yes? Oh, hello there". Suddenly, two shots rang out! Lois says "What's that? Helene! Helene what happened?" Lois screams! Meanwhile, Mr. Chameleon and Detective Dave Arnold are strolling along Fifth Avenue. They suddenly stop, and Dave says "Mr. Chameleon, do you see what I see?" Mr. Chameleon says "I see a crowd and two police cars in front of the Coronet Hotel. Add them all together and what do they spell, Dave?" He says "Trouble". Mr. Chameleon says "Yes, come on". As they rush to the scene, Mr. Chameleon says "Oh, there's Captain Robbins. He must be on the job. Hello, Captain. What's up?" Captain says "Plenty. A girl named Helene Cunningham, who lives here with her sister, was murdered an hour ago. She was shot through the heart by someone who rang her doorbell". Mr. Chameleon asks "Was she alone at the time?" Captain says "Her sister, Lois, was in the bedroom. She didn't see the murderer but she claims it must have been someone Helene knew because she greeted them as if she knew them".

The Adventures of Philip Marlowe - The Name to Remember
Tuesday Jan 20, 2026
Tuesday Jan 20, 2026
Marlowe was at the Beverly Room Cocktail Lounge, waiting on his new client, Eddie Mellette. He showed up about twenty minutes late. Eddie sat down, took off his hat, and shook hands all in one quick motion. Marlowe knew he was either in trouble, in a hurry, or both. Eddie says "Marlowe, this is business. You got to find a nut who's been following me for the last couple of days. He's big. A lot of muscle under a t-shirt and a kind of jacket like the Dodgers wear when their warming up. You know what I mean? I can't figure out what this bird's after. All the time, he's hanging around. Oh, and if I go for him, he runs. So, what I want you to do is get next to him and the answer to this tag. Here, a hundred bucks. Enough, Phil?" Marlowe says "That's enough. You know, Eddie, the law might do this for you for free". Eddie says "For John Doe they might, but Eddie Mellette's another story, Marlowe. You know what I mean? Today, I got a respectable business, war surplus. But the cops, they only remember me as a guy who once did time for being careless with other people's dough". Marlowe says "Yeah". Eddie says "And I'm in a hurry. My two partners, Lou Tripp and Ruth Dunn. She's also my girl. They're coming back to town tonight. I'd like to spend some time with both of them without interruption". Marlowe says "What do you mean girl, Eddie? You and that pretty wife, I've heard about, split up?" Eddie says "Yeah, I'm suing for divorce right now. Tina and I never should have been, Marlowe. I need someone who's softer, more honest, and understanding. Know what I mean? Ruth has a good head for business, and is a sweet kid at the same time. Here's a letter I got from her today. She and Lou were both in Mexico City. It's got all the dope on the deal were working on, plus the fact she's worrying about me". Marlowe says "That should bring us right back to the t-shirt, remember. Where do I start, Eddie?" He says "At the only place I know of, Marlowe. Yesterday I kind of turned the tables on this guy. I trailed him down to the corner of Wilshire and Western, but he got away in the middle of a lot of traffic. I figured from his build and t-shirt, he could work on one of these health clubs around. If you find out then come to my place on Hoover before eight o'clock".

The Whistler - The Blank Wall
Monday Jan 19, 2026
Monday Jan 19, 2026
A thin, bespectacled little man named Wilson paces nervously up and down the floor of his office, up and down, back and forth. He runs his hands nervously through his hair. Time after time he cleans his glasses, lights cigarette upon cigarette. The tension increases with every passing moment. This man is fighting against time. With him, every second counts, every minute becomes an eternity. Yes, this man is up against a blank wall. Suddenly he stops and in sheer desperation he almost screams at the man facing him. Wilson says "I can't go on any longer. I won't. There's a limit to everything. I've come to the end of my rope". Griskin says "You made a deal with me, Wilson. So far you've done very well. But you can't back down now. It's too late". Wilson says "I've done everything you assigned to me. But don't you understand? It's tearing me to pieces. It's wrecking my nerves. I can't eat, I can't sleep". Griskin says "It's too late to quit, Wilson. You've gone this far and I warn you, you can't pull out now". Wilson says "Murder, murder, death. How long do you think I can go on doing such things? How long?" Griskin says "You'll go on and on until we're through with you". Wilson says "I won't". Griskin says "Yes you will. Furthermore, you'll like it or .... well, you know what'll happen". Wilson asks "What do you mean?" Griskin says "You know what I mean, Wilson. If you think you can walk out on me after all you've done, considering what you know about everything here, well you've got another thing coming". Wilson says "But, I'm afraid". Griskin asks "Afraid of what?" Wilson says "I'm afraid I'll lose my mind. For the last six nights now I haven't been able to close my eyes. All I can see is poor Gregory Hellman". Griskin says "Hellman?" Wilson says "Yes, all I can see is his body buried in the cellar. Two weeks ago it was John Henderson, dying in agony. Look Griskin, you've got to let up on me, for a while at least, or I'll crack up". Griskin says "Alright, Wilson. alright. We'll give you a rest". Wilson says "You will?" Griskin says "Yes. After this one". Wilson says "What? Which one?" Griskin says "Olivia Martin. If you plan it so that Olivia Martin takes the rap for everything, then I see no reason why you can't have a rest from all this". Wilson says All right, Griskin. I'll do my best".

The Man Called X - Five Ounces of Treason
Monday Jan 19, 2026
Monday Jan 19, 2026
Ken Thurstan's flight from Dublin lands safely in New York. As he exits the plane, he is met by Pagon, who says "Hi Mr. Thurstan, what a happy coincidence, eh? Imagine meeting you here". Ken says "Yeah, just imagine. How did you get hold of my schedule?" Pagon says "Well, I just accidentally happened to see the cablegram on Miss Brook's desk. Well, I thought I would welcome to New York, Mr. Thurstan. Here, let me carry your bag". Ken says "No thanks. And no, I won't loan you a hundred bucks. So long". Pagon says "Wait a minute, Mr. Thurstan, How could you even think that I only came out here to borrow money? Besides, I need three hundred". Ken says "Really broke, eh?" Pagon says "Oh, flat as a flounder. I've only got fifty or sixty bucks left, and of course, that's nothing". Ken says "Nothing? Is inflation that bad? And I've only been away a week". Pagon says "How about it, Mr. Thurstan? Eh, after all, it's only money". Ken, seeing someone he recognizes, says "Hold it, Pagon" He says "Huh? You mean that guy there by the guard rail?" Ken says "Yes. He looks like um...by George, it is! Pedro Andolero! Hey Pedro!" Pagon says "Look, He's running away". Ken says "Yeah. Now, what the devil?" Pagon says "He crawled under that guardrail. Now, he's on the ramp". Ken says "I can't understand what he's.... Pedro, that plane!" Pagon says "He don't see!" Ken says "Pedro, look out!" Pagon says "Oh, Mr. Thurstan!" Ken says "He ran straight into that propeller!" Sometime later, at the hospital, the Chief says "Well, what I did was make arrangements at the receiving desk, Ken, and an intern is bringing the contents of his pockets up from the morgue". Ken says "Okay, Chief". He says "We can wait in here". Ken says "I called police headquarters. They've got nothing on him". Chief says "I still can't understand why he ran away from you". Ken says "Nor can I, Chief. I hadn't seen or heard of Pedro since that sabotage case in Panama in 1944". Chief says "He was mixed up in that, wasn't he?" Ken says "Probably. He was dismissed for lack of evidence, though. So, that certainly couldn't be the reason he was terrified enough to run into a plane propeller".

21st Precinct - The Mover
Sunday Jan 18, 2026
Sunday Jan 18, 2026
Frank Cannelli, Captain in Command of the 21st Precinct, started his day tour at 8:35 AM when Sector Car 5 came by his house to take him to the East River Drive near 61st Street. A gravel barge had sunk in the river on the previous day and salvage operations to clear the channel had begun that morning. Cannelli had anticipated that the work would create a curious attraction and result in a serious traffic problem along the East River Drive. As Patrolman Dylan, the operator of Sector Car 5, drove Cannelli to inspect this condition, He saw in the block ahead a large moving van parked at the curb in front of 181 Sutton Place North, one of a row of large and elegant residences which had in recent years been converted into multiple dwellings of medium-sized expensive apartments. Also parked there were two departmental vehicles, Sector Car 2 and the Sergeant's car. Cannelli says "Dylan, pull into the curb". As he did, Cannelli could see Sergeant Waters standing on the sidewalk talking to an attractive and well-dressed woman. Four moving men were several feet away, engaged in conversation. Cannelli says "Alright, stay with the car, Dylan". He says "Yes, sir". Waters says "Hello, Captain". Cannelli asks "What's the trouble here Sergeant?" Waters says "Mrs. Linwick, this is Captain Cannelli, commanding officer of the 21st Precinct". She says "How do you do?" Cannelli says "Mrs. Linwick". Canelli asks "What is it Sergeant?" Mrs. Linwick says "I just want my furniture, that's all. That's what I had these men come for, to get my furniture. They're standing around and I have to pay them while they stand around. It is by the hour, you know". Cannelli asks "Well, why can't she get her furniture?" Mrs. Linwick says "That's exactly what I'd like to know". Waters says "Well Captain, seems like the super won't let her up in the building. He won't let her into the apartment". Cannelli asks "Why not?" Waters says "The super says she separated from her husband about three weeks ago. He says he's still living in the building. The super said he's got no right to let her go in there without permission from the husband".

Richard Diamond, Private Detective - The Eddie Garrett Case
Sunday Jan 18, 2026
Sunday Jan 18, 2026
Lieutenant Levinson calls Richard at his office. Richard says "Well, Lieutenant Levinson, what's the matter with you? Did someone swipe one of your ulcers?" Levinson says "Now stop that. I wouldn't call you unless it was something important". Richard says "I know. You're losing Sergeant Otis to Barnum and Bailey?" Levinson says "You stop that. Diamond, I have an important message for you, so for the sake of my sour stomach, act like a normal human being for five minutes". Richard says "Ah, sure to be a strain, but go ahead". Levinson says "Bill Garrett wants to see you". Richard says "Bill Garrett?" Levinson says "Yes. He goes to the electric chair tonight at 8 o'clock, and he wants to see you. It's his last request. Will you see him?" Richard says "All right, sure". Levinson says "I'll call the warden and tell him you'll be up". Richard says "You be sure and put in the call. If Otis does it, the warden will get so confused, they'll turn Garrett loose and toast me". Later, Richard appeared at Garrett's cell in Sing sing Prison. Richard says "Hello, Garrett". He says "Hello, Diamond. I'm glad you got here". Richard says "Wouldn't miss it". Garrett says "Neither would I unless I could help it". Richard says "Look, Garrett, I'm busy and you're on a tight schedule. Now, what's on your mind?" Garrett says "Well, it's like this, Rick". Richard says "The name's Diamond". Garrett says "Okay. I know you hate guys like me, but I ain't ashamed of what I've done. That's the way I live. That's the way I'm gonna go out". Richard says "If you want someone to listen to you feel sorry for yourself, he'll be along in a few minutes before eight". Garrett says "Maybe I better forget it. You ain't got no use for nothing". Richard says "I got use for everything that doesn't include guys like you. There's no middle with me, Garrett. It's got to be right or wrong". Garrett says "And right keeps you out of trouble, huh?" Richard says "Well, not always, but it helps people to live together". Garrett says "Okay. I guess you know I got a kid brother. He's going on seventeen, and it looks like the family's gonna have another guy for you to hate". Richard asks "What do you want me to do?" Garrett says "He thinks I'm a big shot. I want you to convince him that I'm not".

Barrie Craig, Confidential Investigator - The Lonely Corner
Saturday Jan 17, 2026
Saturday Jan 17, 2026
Barrie was having a meal at Willie's Wagon, if you could call it a meal. Willie says "What would you call it, Mr. Craig?" Barrie says "Penance". Willie says "Big joke. Something wrong with the hamburger?" Barrie says "Well, it's been fatally wounded, Willie. Next time you might wait till it dies before serving it". Willie says "I can remember a time when private dicks could hardly read, let alone make witty remarks". Barrie says "Sorry". Willie says "Have a cup of coffee". Barrie says "Oh, I'm not that sorry". Willie says "There's nothing wrong with the coffee". Barrie says "Well, there's nothing wrong with sulfuric acid either, but I'll hold on to my stomach lining for a while longer if you don't mind". Willie says "What's so special about your stomach?" Barrie says "It's attached to me". Willie says "Ah, you're getting sentimental. Which reminds me, there was a guy in here looking for you about an hour ago. Oh, nervous little punk. I gave him your office address". Barrie says "He must have missed me an hour ago. I was on my way here. How could you tell he was nervous?" Willie says "He couldn't keep his hand from trembling. The one that was holding the gun". Willie didn't have much more information to offer, other than explaining that this potential client was clutching the gun in his pocket. Barrie walks back to his office building, and talks to Jake, the elevator operator. Jake asks "Going up?" Barrie says "Where else could I go from the ground floor?" Jake says "I guess you're going up. Other fellow went up, too". Barrie asks "Which other fellow? Jake says "The one looking for you". Barrie says "Well, thanks for letting me in on it. Was he a small, nervous man?" Jake says "Yep". Barrie asks "Did he say he'd wait for me in the office?" Jake says "Yeah. He ain't come down either". Barrie says "Which means he's still up there, unless he used the back stairs". Jake says "Yeah". Barrie says "He was carrying a gun, wasn't he?" Jake says "Oh, you heard about him?" Barrie says "From Willie. He tried to get a hold of me at the wagon". Jake asks "Did that fellow drink any of Willie's coffee?" Barrie says "I don't know". Jake says "You better hurry, if he did, he's going to be needing major surgery".

Saturday Jan 17, 2026
Saturday Jan 17, 2026
David Williams, a young driver, is pacing his living room floor, waiting for his father, Grant Williams, to come home. Shortly after his father arrives home, David says "Dad?" Mr. Williams says "David, what are you doing up at this hour?" David says "I didn't hear you come in. I thought you'd never get home. Where have you been?" Mr. Williams says "Well, now do I have to start answering to you for my whereabouts?" David says "I'm sorry, Dad". Mr. Williams says "Well, for your information, I was working correcting term papers. It wasn't that I.... David, I'm very tired". David asks "You all right, Dad? You look like you had an attack or something". Mr. Williams says "Well, don't be silly. I said I was tired. What's wrong with you? You've been drinking". David says "Yes. I wish I hadn't, but I did". Mr. Williams says "Oh, okay, son. Take it easy. Now, whatever it is, we'll work it out. Where's your car?" David says "I left it parked on the street". Mr. Williams says "Well, you better put it away. There's no sense in leaving it out in this rain". David says "Dad, I've got to talk to you. It's about the car". Mr. Williams says "What about the car?" David says "I didn't know what to do. I hit the panic button. I ran". Mr. Williams asks "What did you hit?" David says "Someone, a man, I'm pretty sure down near the railroad. You know, where the big curve comes around by the station opposite Franny's place. I think it was one of those old winos that hang around there. Dad, I swear I never saw him with all that rain and the fog". Mr. Williams asks "Was there anyone else around?" David says "I didn't see anyone. I should have stopped, but all I could think of was that I'd been drinking and if anything happened, it would kill Mom. Before I knew it, I was running away. I'm scared. I guess I ought to go to the police". Mr. Williams asks "Does your mother know about this?" David says "No". Mr. Williams says "Okay. When did it happen?" David says "At 2:00 o'clock this morning". Mr. Williams says "Okay, now go into the kitchen and wait for me. And no matter what, don't let your mother get involved". David asks "Where are you going?" Mr. Williams says "I'm going to have a look at your car". David asks "What are you going to do?" Mr. Williams says "I'm not sure yet, but just maybe there's a way to get off the spot".

The Lives of Harry Lime - Faith, Lime, and Charity
Saturday Jan 17, 2026
Saturday Jan 17, 2026
Wealthy tourists have always been attracted by the romance of India and the beautiful Taj Mahal. And Harry Lime has always been attracted by the romance of beautiful and wealthy tourists. With this idea in mind, Harry took the train from New Delhi to Agra, which is the ancient capital city of India where the Taj Mahal is located. Enroute, Harry was listening politely to the interminable prattle of a lady named Mrs. Hayley, a missionary's wife, with whom he shared his compartment. Mrs. Hayley says "I suppose you're going to Agra to see the Taj Mahal, Mr. Lime". He says "Yes, among other things, Mrs. Hayley". She says "I could tell you were a cultured gentleman the first moment I laid eyes on you, Mr. Lime. But all too many people see the beauties of India and never give a thought to the poor, benighted people. We must think of them, Mr. Lime. Don't you agree?" Harry says "Oh, yes, absolutely". She says "My husband is the Reverend Mr. Hayley, you know. He's the head of the mission at Nanda Devi. He's given his whole life to these poor natives". Harry says "That's very nice". Mrs. Hayley says "We have an orphanage there, you know, one of the finest. A terrible thing happened. Such a terrible thing. We had a fire just last week. Here, look at these newspaper clippings". Harry reads "Orphanage at Nanda Devi destroyed by fire, medical aid rushed to mission". He says "Oh, I'm very sorry, Mrs. Hayley". She says "That picture, that's my husband, Mr. Hayley, standing there among those poor little Indian children. If I don't raise the money, he'll be heartbroken". Harry says "The money?" Mrs. Hayley says "Yes, yes, that's why I'm going to Agra. We need 3,000 pounds right away to cover the emergency. When we heard that Lady Edith Bannon Murdoch was in Agra, we decided to approach her. She's very wealthy and her family had always helped the mission. I'm sure her heart will be moved by the plight of these poor orphans. However, I just dread speaking to her. I'm not well, you know, and with the shock of the fire and everything". Harry says "Now, Mrs. Hayley, this is only a suggestion, but I was wondering if it might be helpful if someone else approached Lady Edith on behalf of the mission. Myself, for instance". Mrs. Hayley says "You? Well, that's awfully kind of you, Mr. Lime".

Rocky's Tambourine Cafe attracts all sorts of people, but this kind of man was new to Rocky. He was tall and muscular with piercing dark eyes. He had black hair, a thin beard, and sunbaked skin that turned light below the eyes. In spite of his size, his hands were delicate and he might have been graceful, except for the ill-fitting white robe and his complete uncertainty. Rocky watched him as he came back to where he was wiping some glasses behind the bar. The man says "My name is Jerod. I would work for you some". Rocky says "I got all the help I need, sorry". Jerod says "I need money. I will work very hard for only a few francs". Rocky says "They don't pay in francs around Cairo. Where are you from, anyway?" Jerod says "If I do good work you do not care". Rocky says "You ought to be a good caravan driver. Why don't you look up Ali Ben down at the camel stalls". Jerod says "I do not want to drive camels. I would work hard for you. Scrub floors, sweep, with this broom I will show you". Rocky says "Stay on the other side of the bar. I said nothing doing". Jerod says "I clean up very good, you would see". Rocky says "Cut it will you? Look out with that broom". Jerod says "I am most sorry". Rocky says "I'll bet you are. That was expensive liquor. It will cost you plenty". Jerod says "Oh, but there is no money, so now, you see, I have to work for you. Is that not so, sire?" Rocky says "Yeah alright, get busy, Jarod". There was nothing to do but let him work it out. Everything was new to him, but he was tireless. By night, he had the place spotless. The Cairo streets had him confused, so Rocky helped him to an address in the Sharia el Kama. Jerod was back bright and early the next day, hard at work. That evening, Rocky told him it worked off his debt, and gave him a few piasters. He thanked Rocky and hurried away. A few minutes later, three men wearing blue robes and black veils appeared at the door. Rocky says "Alright, fun's over, take the masquerade someplace else". One of them says "Let us know where he is". Rocky says "We'll talk when you take off the disguises". The same one says "Where is the one who calls himself Jerod?"

Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar - The Ugly Pattern Matter
Friday Jan 16, 2026
Friday Jan 16, 2026
Johnny gets a call from Barry Winters at Masters Insurance and Trust. Johnny says "Hi Barry. It's been years". Barry says "Sure, Johnny. Because we don't usually have trouble with our accounts". Johnny says "You mean you didn't?" Barry says "Huh?" Johnny says "Until now". Barry says "Well, yeah. I'm afraid that's about the size of it. And this time it's bad trouble. Simplex Tackle Company, Johnny. Over in Danbury". Johnny says "Fishing tackle?" Barry says "That's right". Johnny says "Well, how come I've never heard of them?" Barry says "Well, they're a small outfit. A kind of glorified partnership. It's owned by nine men. One of them, Hanley Thomas is president. The others are secretary, treasurer, and a flock of vice presidents". Johnny asks "So, what's happened?" Barry says "Well, the nine of them, plus the twenty or thirty workers at the plant, are all covered by a group life insurance deal. And listen, we've just had to pay off on three policies in a row". Johnny says "Well, that's too bad. But why call on me?" Barry says "Because, Johnny, those three deaths were all murders". Within a few minutes, Johnny made the trip to the Masters home office, located in Hartford, and was soon sitting in Barry Winter's office. Johnny's first question is concerning the police involvement. Barry said "Sure, they've been working on these murders, Johnny, but they haven't come up with anything, except a theory that one man is behind them all. Johnny asks "Why, Barry?" He says "Because the victims have all been members of the Simplex Tackle Company, and they've all occurred within a month, and each of them occurred on a Wednesday". Johnny says "A pattern, huh?" Barry says "That's right. And also, Johnny, because there's been no apparent reason for any of them".

Defense Attorney - Client Joshua Masters
Thursday Jan 15, 2026
Thursday Jan 15, 2026
Attorney Martha Ellis Bryant is meeting with a potential client, Joshua Masters, in her law office. Martha says "Conducting an investigation is decidedly out of my line Mr. Masters. I'm an attorney not a private detective". Joshua says "I understand that Miss Bryant, but this is something I believe you could handle better than a private detective". Martha says "Well I'm very flattered, but I'm afraid I don't quite understand". Joshua says "Your reputation for integrity is common knowledge, so I know I can trust you. You're famous for proving people innocent". Now, uh, one of my three sons is trying to kill me". Martha says "And you want me to find out which one is guilty?" Joshua says "Well, in the manner of speaking, yes but what's more important I want to know which two are innocent. You see, there's a lot of money involved as well". Martha asks "How old are you, Mr. Masters?" Joshua says "I'm 68". Martha asks "And your sons?" Joshua says "The oldest is 38 and the youngest is 33". Martha asks "Are they married?" Joshua says "No, all three like to consider themselves as eligible bachelors". Martha says "Yes, I believe I've read about them in the newspapers". Joshua says "I'm not proud of my sons, Miss Bryant. They're parasites waiting for my money. Waiting for me to die, and ones trying to hurry it". Martha asks "Will your sons inherit your money?" Joshua says "As my will is now, the estate is to be divided equally among the three boys". Martha asks "Well, specifically what is it that makes you think that one of the boys is trying to murder you?" Joshua says "Well, I've got a weakness for speed. I like to go fast, in a car, boat, anything. I've got a foreign car that's very fast. I like to get out on the freeway and open my car up once in a while. I started out the other day and got a flat tire. I drove into a service station to get it fixed. One lug bolt was holding the wheel on. The other four had been unscrewed, holding by one thread. My speedboat bilge was full of gasoline, and would have blown up if I had touched the starter. There were many other things like that".

Wednesday Jan 14, 2026
Wednesday Jan 14, 2026
In a modest suburban cottage, a young man named Russell is walking towards the front door, with a stubborn, unhappy expression on his face. Suddenly, a beautiful young woman named Jean, emerges from another room and pauses in surprise. She says "Russell, where are you going?" He says "I'm going out, Jean". She says "But it's nearly midnight". Russell says "Never mind. I'll spend the night in a hotel". Jean says "You're angry about something". Russell says "Why shouldn't I be? It's bad enough to be out of a job. But when someone tells me my wife's been meeting another man behind my back...." Jean says "That isn't true, Russell". He says "Isn't it?" She says "No". Russell says "All right, deny it. But I've got proof". Jean says "Aren't you going to give me a chance to explain?" Russell says "There's nothing to explain, Jean. I.... What are you looking at?" Jean says "There was someone outside the window. A face was peering in the window just now. It looked like Jeffrey Tate". Russell says "Well, I don't see anyone. You've got Jeffrey Tate on your mind so much, you even believe you're seeing his face wherever you go". Jean says "Russell, please". He says "I'll call you in the morning, Jean". As Russell walks outside, he is talking to himself "Tate. That's all I've been hearing. Jeffrey Tate. Well, she can have him. Jean thinks that...." Russell suddenly hears something. He asks "Who's there? Who's hiding behind... Oh. Are you crazy? Put that gun down. No. No. Don't shoot. Don't...." Two shots rang out. The next day, Jean is talking to Mr. Keen, telling him everything that happened. She says "When I heard the shots, Mr. Keen, I ran out of our cottage and found my husband Russell, lying on our lawn, dead!" Mr. Keen asks "You say you'd seen a man named Jeffrey Tate peering into your window, Mrs. Owens, just before the murder?" Jean says "Yes, Mr. Keen". Mike Clancy says "The police haven't picked this Tate fellow up yet, boss". Mr. Keen says "My partner, Mike Clancy, read the details of your husband's murder in the morning paper, Mrs. Owens. But, I haven't had a chance to go over them myself". Jean says "I told the police that I saw Jeffrey Tate outside our window, Mr. Keen, and they're searching for him. But he left his home last night and they haven't been able to locate him".

Shortly after dawn, one morning, the fleet of fishing trollers off the coast of Maine made their last haul, and now with a full catch, they're preparing to return to their home cove. Captain Brewster, the skipper of the Anna Girl bellows to was first mate "Let's be underway, Mr. Walpole" he says "Aye, sir". Brewster says "Well, don't stand there glued those glasses. There's a blow on the way. Personally, I'd like to run in ahead of it". Walpole says "I think I see something, sir". Brewster says "Now, don't tell me it's a periscope, because the war's over". Walpole says "I'm not sure what it is, sir, you have a look". Brewster asks "Where is it?" Walpole says "Far out off the starboard bow, bobbing in the water". Brewster says "Let's see. Hmm, I don't see anything...." Walpole says "But I'm positive, sir, there's something...." Brewster says "Wait a minute. You're right, Mr. Walpole, lower a boat". Walpole asks "What is it, sir?" Brewster says "It's a man. We'd better get to him". Walpole says "Aye, sir. Man boat Number One. Make ready to lower away". Meanwhile later, as the rescued man starts to regain consciousness, Brewster says "Oh now, just take it easy. Mister, you're going to be alright, just take another swallow of this". The man says "That's fine. Who are you?" Brewster says "I'm Captain Brewster, skipper of the Anna Girl, she's a fishing troller. We picked you up just after dawn this morning". The man asks "Where am I now?" Brewster says "You're at my house. I brought you onshore. What happened to you?" The man says "Well, closest I could remember, I was on the fourth watch. We had heavy going. I went forward to batting down number one. Bow took a dive. Well, here I am". Brewster asks "What was your ship? The name on your lifebuoy was too dim to make out". The man says "The Oreo. Cargo, eight thousand tons out of New York". Brewster asks "What company?" The man says "North Star. Why?" Brewster says "Well, I won't send a report". The man says "I'll take care of that". Brewster says "You'll be in the blankets for two or three days. My wife Anna can take care of you".

Gang Busters - The Case of the Kansas Collectors
Wednesday Jan 14, 2026
Wednesday Jan 14, 2026
During the middle of December, Larry and Ruthie Oaks are waiting in their car outside the bus station. Larry says "Roll the window up, Ruthie". She says "Honey, it's hot in the car". Larry says "Got cold". Ruthie says "Larry, we have to breathe". Larry says "Did I tell you I had sinusitis?" Ruthie says "Several times. What time is Mallory's bus?" Larry says "7:05. The Doc in prison said I had one of the worst cases of sinusitis he ever saw". A bus comes to a stop at the station, and Ruthie says "I think this is him. Larry, light me a cigarette". Larry says "What is this stuff, Ruthie? Lighting cigarettes, open the doors, waiting for me to pull out chairs for you. What's got into you?" Ruthie says "I waited four years for you to get out of prison. I'd like to know you are around". Larry says "I'm around". Ruthie says "Oh, here comes Mallory". Larry says "Hmmm, he brought that beat up shortwave portable radio. I told him to leave that thing behind". Ruthie says "Don't start anything, Honey". Larry says "Hey, Mallory. Over here". Mallory says "Larry and Ruthie, what's the good word?" Larry says "Get in. It's cold". Mallory asks "What kind of a job we going on?" Larry says "It's a big one". Meanwhile, the phone rings in a Kansas Sheriff's Office. Lieutenant Martin answers. He talks for a couple of minutes, and hangs up the phone. Martin says "Sheriff called to wish us a Merry Christmas. You know, I'd sure like to wrap this case up as a Christmas present for him". Sid, the Deputy, says "Well, I you're on the wrong track, Lieutenant". He says "Maybe I am. I don't know. Sid says "The drug store was in Oklahoma. Cash and narcotics were taken by two men. A woman was waiting in the car". Martin says "And the car had Kansas plates". Sid says "The liquor store was held up in Wichita. All the cash and nineteen cases of liquor were taken by two men. A woman was waiting, but this time it was a black panel truck with Oklahoma plates". Martin says "The descriptions fit". Sid says "Outside of a jewelry store robbery and the liquor store, none of the robberies were committed in Kansas". Martin says "Well, they were all close enough. No more than an hour's drive over the state line".

Jeff Regan, Investigator - A Cure for Insomnia
Monday Jan 12, 2026
Monday Jan 12, 2026
It was about 10 o'clock in the morning when Regan got to the Lyon Detective Bureau office. Lyon says "Jeffrey, my boy, be careful where you stand". Regan says "What's the matter Lyon, drop an olive?" Lyon says" No, don't be funny. Your feet are muddy and we can't afford to have the carpet cleaned. Not the way business is going these days". Regan says "Yeah, well okay. Mind if i sit down? My overcoat's wet". Lyon says "Well then, take it off first. Regan, our books don't balance for the month of April. Wait a minute, leave your coat on and don't sit down". Regan says "So, we got a new client?" Lyon says "Yes, Jeffrey, I was sitting here at my desk twenty minutes ago, trying to balance our books...." Regan says "And the phone rang and it was a new client". Lyon says "Exactly Jeffrey, a man named Paulson. He lives in the hills above Hollywood and Vine on Chapman Boulevard, 7707 and a half. You better get out there right away". Regan asks "Somebody's life in danger, maybe?" Lyon says "Life in danger? Oh no, the victim's already dead, Mrs. Paulson. Paulson's wife murdered, he said. Paulson wants us to prove it". Regan says "Paulson wants us to prove his wife was murdered?" Lyon says "Yes. You see Mrs. Paulson died seven or eight days ago. The police say she committed suicide, but Mr. Paulson would be so much happier if it would turn out that she were murdered, Jeffrey". Regan says "Nice fellow". Lyon says "Isn't he, my boy, he wants to pay us a hundred dollars". Regan says "Not what I meant. Look Lyon, if Mrs. Paulson died seven or eight days ago, what's so urgent about my getting out there this morning?" Lyon says "It's the one hundred dollars, Jeffery". Regan says "Oh, I get it". Lyon says "Yeah as I explained to you, my boy, try as I might, scheme as I would, our April books refuse to balance. Now, uh, I've been thinking that perhaps one little fee carried backwards from the first week of May...." Regan says "Oh okay, Fatso, set your calendar back to standard time. I'll go out and talk to Paulson".

The Epic Casebook - Death Most Known
Monday Jan 12, 2026
Monday Jan 12, 2026
Inspector Carr is assigned by investigate a claim made by an American to be the sole heir of one of Britain's oldest Earldoms. When Ralph Marriott, from the state of Wyoming in the US, arrived to claim the title, he created a fund in which he promised that for every fifty pound share invested in his fund, the sender could hope to receive a one hundred percent profit as soon as the inheritance became his. Marriott claimed the purpose of the fund was to seek financial support for his rightful claims to the succession. This upset the establishment quite considerably. Questions were asked in Parliament. The home secretary was asked to look into it, so he invoked the aid of Scotland Yard. The Commissioner delegated Carr with the task of probing Mr. Marriott's motives and integrity. Carr began by paying a visit to Mr. Marriott at his current place of residence in England. When Marriott came to the door, Carr says "Mr. Marriott?" He says "Yes, I take it your Inspector Carr". Carr says "Yes, sir. Here is my warrant card" Marriott says "Oh, I don't need to see that now. You come on in. I mean, you're not arresting me or anything like that. Or are you?" Carr says "No, sir. As I said on the telephone, the home secretary is a little bit worried about all this publicity". Marriott says "Now, you said something about my inheritance. Any question you happen to ask, I'll be happy to answer". Carr says "Well, it's very good of you, sir. I've been through your papers. There's no reason at all why you shouldn't be in this country or why you shouldn't lay claim to the title. Frankly, Mr. Marriott, what is worrying us is the advertisement. The fund seems to be degrading for the British aristocracy. It's like gambling on your claim of inheritance". Marriott says "Okay, I get the message. I've probably received enough dough to pay all the fees I need. You can go back and tell your commissioner there'd be no more soliciting. I'll withdraw the advertisement. Mind you, there's an exception to every rule".

The Adventures of Sam Spade - The Champion Caper
Sunday Jan 11, 2026
Sunday Jan 11, 2026
At the request of Elliot Champion, Sam went to Champion's Brokerage House in San Mateo, where he met Mildred Champion. As Sam walks into the office, Mildred says "Yes, may I help you?" Sam says "I'm here to see Mr. Elliot Champion. My name's Spade. You don't have to write it down. He's expecting me". Mildred asks "Your business, Mr. Spade?" Sam says "It's private". Mildred says "I have to have a little more than that, I'm afraid". Sam says "Always this hot here?" Mildred says "Oh, Mr. Champion can't stand fresh air". Sam says "Obviously". Mildred says "That's what makes it so warm in here. I'm sorry". Sam says "Yeah, just flip the switch and tell him I'm here". Mildred turns on the intercom. Champion asks "Well, what is it, Mildred?" She says "I was just going out. Mr. Spade is here. He says you're expecting him, but I don't find him listed in your appointment book". Champion says "Don't be an idiot. Send him in". Mildred says "You may go in now". Sam asks "Is he always like that? Mildred says "He's nice today". Sam says "Sorry, mother. That's your name, isn't it?" Mildred says "His office is first on the right". Sam says "Don't bother, I'll find it". Mildred says "Thank you. I'll just go to lunch". When Sam appears at his office door, Champion says "Well, don't just stand there. Come in and shut the door. What I have to discuss with you is private. I don't want that snoopy niece of mine listening to our conversation". Sam says "She's out to lunch now. Does she listen that often?" Champion says "All the time. Why?" Sam says "She didn't know who I was". Champion says "I outsmarted her there. I called you from the drugstore on the corner. I don't want anyone to know who you are, why you're here. Joe Josephs has been released from San Quentin this week and I've been receiving telephone calls from him telling me to beware and to watch out and a lot of other nonsense". Sam asks "What was he doing at San Quinton?" Champion says "Two to five on an embezzling count. He previously worked here as a junior executive".

Radio City Playhouse - Wardrobe Trunk
Sunday Jan 11, 2026
Sunday Jan 11, 2026
Babe Sherman is a confidence man, currently "working" Paris, France. In a big city, like Paris, it was easy for Sherman to pick up money without attracting too much attention. He could gamble on the races or pick up blackmail money from married women who don't like their husbands to know what they're doing. He was currently working on a young French lady named Therese Jermaine. He describes her as the tiniest woman he ever saw. She was like a little bird, fragile and delicate. Sherman first saw her selling some guy a gold cigarette case in one of the best jewelry stores of the Rue de la Paix. Of course, Sherman made quite a first impression on her. Therese wasn't any different from the others. The build-up took a month of taking her to lunch every day and calling for her every night. When shopping with her, Sherman would ignore the stuff in the showcases as though it didn't exist. He had to tear his eyes away from it and pretend he wasn't interested. On the day it happened, they had lunch together. Sherman took her back to the jewelry store. She insisted on showing Sherman some pearls. Therese says "You must look at these, they're so beautiful". Sherman says "They are not as beautiful as you". She says "Look at them, so beautiful". Sherman says "Yeah, I guess so. Tell me how much, and I'll buy them for you". Therese says "I think for the moment in your money, they are seventy five thousand dollars". Sherman says "To wear around your neck? Try them on". She says "Oh, I think I should not be silly". Sherman says "Oh, come on. Let's see how they look on you. Turn around. Oh, I think the clasp is broken. Oh no!" She gasps as the pearls drop to the floor, Sherman picks them up and says "Oh, we better put them away". She says "Yes, you go now. You see me tonight, at the same place?" Sherman says "Positively, about 8 o'clock". Sherman had deliberately let the pearls drop to the floor. When he picked them up, it was easy to make the switch. The pearls she put back in the case weren't worth more than a hundred bucks.

The New Adventures of Nero Wolfe - The Final Page
Saturday Jan 10, 2026
Saturday Jan 10, 2026
Mr. Wolfe has accepted a dinner invitation from an old friend, Arthur Merle. Fritz Brenner, Mr. Wolfe's exceptionally talented Swiss chef, and occasional chauffer, will be driving Mr. Wolfe and Archie Goodwin to the Merle apartment. Fritz calls the office to tell them that the car is ready, and parked out front. Archie says "Yes, thanks, We'll be right down, Fritz". Archie hangs up and says "Boss, Mr. Wolfe, will you please hurry? The car is downstairs waiting. Fritz is all ready". Wolfe says "You're well aware that it will avail you nothing to hurry me? Why must the world be such a rush today? Isn't it enough that I've agreed against my better judgment to leave the comforts of home?" Archie says "To a dinner, that should be an inducement". Wolfe says "Fritz could have prepared a delicious dinner. He has truffles in the pantry". Archie says "Well, why did you promise Arthur Merle? You didn't have to accept the invitation". Wolfe says "Quite so. He's an old friend. Besides, he does set an excellent table". Sometime later, after they finally reach the lobby of Merle's apartment, Mr. Wolfe is surprised to see a young lady working as the elevator operator. She asks "Are you going up, gentlemen?" Archie asks "Are you, honey?" She says "Certainly. It's my job". Archie says "Then so are we. After you, boss". Wolfe asks "When did they install women elevator operators in this building?" She says "I've been here for two years. Floor, please". Archie says "Arthur Merle's apartment, I believe its 814". She says "That's right. Are you Mr. Wolfe?" Archie says "No, this is Mr. Wolfe. I'm Archie Goodwin". Wolfe says "Although the name Wolf would be much more appropriate for him than for me". Archie asks "How did you know about us?" She says "Mr. Merle came in about a half hour ago. He mentioned that he was expecting you". Moments later, Wolfe and Archie are ringing Merle's doorbell, but getting no answer. They find that the front door is unlocked. They go in to look for him. Archie looks in the study, and says "Boss! Boss!" Wolfe says "Good heavens, Archie. Don't shout. I'm coming". Archie says "It's Arthur Merle. Look, he is slumped over his desk with a knife in his back!" Wolfe says "Yeah, he's quite dead. Call Inspector Kramer at Homicide".

Box 13 - Double Trouble
Saturday Jan 10, 2026
Saturday Jan 10, 2026
Dan Holiday receives a letter in Box 13 that reads "If you're interested in preventing a murder, come to 327 North Greeley Street in Edgemont. It should take you only three hours by train to get here, but you must come at exactly 3 30 PM or it may be too late, Pat Kennedy". The entire letter was typed, even the signature at the bottom. Susie asks "How long will you be gone this time Mr. Holiday?" Dan says "Well, that's a little hard to tell Susie. I think it depends on Pat Kennedy, whoever he or she is". Susie says "I don't like letters that have only typed signatures at the bottom". Dan asks "Why not?" Susie says "Well, it always makes me think that someone else wrote it". Dan says "And that's exactly what makes me think this may be very interesting". Some time later, Dan got off the train at the Edgemont station platform at 3:00 o'clock. A taxi left him in front of an apartment house at the Greely Street address at 3:20, ten minutes before the deadline. Dan walks into the lobby and sees an uninterested desk clerk. The clerk says "Yeah?" Dan asks "Is there a Pat Kennedy living here?" Clerk says "Uh huh. Miss Pat Kennedy. Why?" Dan says "I'd like to see her". Clerk says "Apartment 1-B, straight down the hall". Dan asks "Aren't you going to ring her up first?" Clerk says "There's no phone in her place. Be sure to knock first". Dan says "Oh sure, that's one of my good habits". At the door, Dan knocked. Getting no reply, he tried the door. It was open, so he walked in. Dan says "Miss Kennedy? Pat Kennedy?" Dan walked into the apartment a little farther. A clock on a table ticked away, it's hands at 3:23. There was a window open in the room. He walks to the bedroom and stops. It was Miss Kennedy. Suddenly, a man appears and says "Don't move Bud. Get away from her". Dan says "You better send for a doctor". The man walks up and says "It's a little late for that. She's dead".

A man walks up to Slate in Shannon's Place and says "Is your name Slate Shannon?" Slate says "That's right. And this is Miss Duval". The man says "I'm very happy". Saylor says "Then I'm happy too, hello". The man says "My name is Cameron. I have a plantation outside of Santo Mar, sugar". Slate asks "What can we do for you Mr. Cameron?" He says "I've never come to a man and beg before in my life". Slate says "Then you've come to the wrong man, you don't have to beg anything from me". Cameron says "It's about a girl, a young girl, wild, impetuous and spoiled". Saylor says "No thanks, Mr. Shannon already has one". Cameron says "Please, it's about my daughter, it's about Cathy, Cathy and the Blue Moon". Slate says "Oh yes, there's a gambling ship in the bay called the Blue Moon. Look, if you're a man in trouble I'll listen to you. If all you want to do is hire someone to spank your daughter for gambling, get yourself somebody else". Cameron says "There's nobody else that can do what I want you to do. Cathy's involved with a man named Norton". Slate says "Oh yes, I've heard of him, he owns the Blue Moon. How did your daughter get mixed up with a guy like that?" Cameron says "I don't know, all I know is that since she's met him she's....well, she's changed, she's a stranger to me. She's on that boat all the time". Saylor says "I have an easy solution. Why don't you just tell Mr. Norton to bar your daughter from the boat?" Cameron says "I've tried that, he laughed in my face, he told me...." Slate says "Hold it a minute. Saylor, there's a guy over there at the cigar counter, take care of him. I'll remember every word Mr. Cameron says and tell you later". Saylor goes to the cigar counter. Slate says "Alright, Cameron". He says "Well, Norton knows something about Cathy that I don't. I know my daughter, it's more than just a lust for gambling. Please, will you help me, Shannon? Go there, talk to Cathy, convince her that she need never go back to that ship again. Please, I'll give you anything". Slate says "Put your wallet back. Your daughter's in trouble with Norton, I'll try to straighten her out". Cameron says "You don't understand, Shannon, I'm a rich man". Slate says "When I bring Cathy back, will you give me a box of lump sugar?"

Calling All Cars - Desertion Leads to Murder
Friday Jan 09, 2026
Friday Jan 09, 2026
On the morning of January 10th, John C. Sheldon, lineman for the Consolidated Gas and Electric Company of San Diego, and two members of his crew are repairing a telephone line. Sheldon is perched on the cross arm of a telephone pole. The others are waiting below. One of the crew asks "Are you going to want a new insulator for that line, Sheldon?" He says "No, the insulator is alright, the line itself has just loosened a little. I'll get it in a minute. Just needs a little tightening is all". A crew member says "You can tighten it all you want as far as I'm concerned. I want to sit down and eat. I'm hungry". Sheldon says "I've got this finished now. We can rest for awhile. Say, this is a swell day alright. It's quiet and peaceful. Huh, there's a guy whose got the right idea. He's stretched out on the grass over there. He looks like he's out like a light. That's the life, nothing to do be sleep... Hey, wait a minute. He can't be sleeping like that, with his face right in the dirt. Yeah, you guys take a run over there and see what's wrong with him". After a few seconds, the crew find him. One says "Hey, this guy is dead. There's a hole in the back of his head. You better call the police, Sheldon!" He says "I'll tap this line and see if I can get through to police headquarters!" Acting upon this information, Chief Hayes of the San Diego Police Department, immediately sends Detectives Harry Kelly and James Patrick, and others, to the scene. From the body of the dead man, they remove letters from his wallet, which establishes the victim's identity of being one Frank McCrary, a San Diego taxi driver. After the crime scene has been investigated, Sergeant Joseph Lopez is assigned to check on McCrary's actions as far as possible. His first step is to interrogate a cab driver friend of McCrary's named Register. After the initial shock of learning that McCrary had been murdered, Mr. Register told Lopez that he had two soldiers in his cab last night, and that they got on his got on his nerves, so he brought them back to the city.

Suspense - The Defense Rests

During his time in San Quentin Prison, Robert Tasker began writing. After the first year of his original ten year sentence, writing short stories started as just an activity to occupy his time. Later, as he became more proficient, he submitted a short story to a magazine, and, to his surprise, it was published. An attorney named Max Craiger read that story, and was so impressed that he visited Tasker in prison. Craiger looked over Tasker's case and told him that he would try to help. Sometime later, Tasker was called to the Warden's Office. Craiger was there. He said "Robert, I've got some good news for you. I've got your parole. You're free. Well, you happy? Tasker says "Sure, it's just that I still don't quite believe it". Warden says "It's official, Tasker. Here are your papers". Tasker says "Papers, that'll make everything easy won't it, Warden? Passport to a brilliant future for an ex-con". Craiger says "Robert, I know it's going to be a little hard to adjust at first but there's a job in my office". Tasker says "Thanks, Mr. Craiger, but I don't want charity, even from you". Craiger says "It isn't charity, Robert. I need a clerk in my office or I wouldn't have offered you the job. You don't have to stay if you don't want to, but you'll be doing me a favor if you try". Tasker says "Well, I guess I owe you at least one favor". Warden says "Well, Tasker, goodbye and good luck. Just remember that what's happened up here is water over the dam. Don't hold any grudges". Tasker says "I don't hold any grudges, Warden. There's one man I hate, that's all". Craiger says "A man you hate, Robert?" Tasker says "What's the use of kidding about it? His name is Arthur Hines and I hate him, simple as that". Warden says "Well, forget it, son. Hines was the District Attorney then, and he was just doing a job, that's all. He had nothing against you". Tasker says "He was doing a job all right". Craiger says "Robert, you mustn't feel that way. You'll get along with Hines all right". Tasker says "Get along with him?" Craiger says "I mean in the office. Oh, didn't I tell you? Arthur Hines is my new partner in the Law Firm".

Ernie Johnson is running down the street from the police after he robbed a liquor store. He sees a business named Schwartz Delicatessen, and runs into the shop. The old man behind the counter, Sam Schwartz, says "Yes, I could help you. So, what is the gun for?" Ernie says "The gun is for you if you don't do like I say. You all alone here?" Sammy says "Yeah, take the money and go, you need it so bad". They hear a voice from behind say "Something is wrong, Sammy?" Sam says "That's just my wife from the back room, she wouldn't bother...." Ernie says "Tell her to come out here. Hey you, out here now." Mrs. Schwartz says "Who is speaking in such a .... Sammy, a gun he's got". Ernie says "There's a cop out there taking shots at me. If he comes in, I shoot. Okay? You, what's your name?" She says "I am Mrs. Schwartz". Ernie says "Okay, get over there by the front window. There in the corner where I can watch you, and don't move". Sam says "Like he says, Minnie, go in the corner. You shouldn't move". Ernie says "Now, you Pop ...." Sam says "You could call me Sam". Ernie says "Yeah, sure Pop, you're going to stand in front of me, so if somebody puts a bullet in me it's got to go through you first, okay? Sam says "By me?, no, not okay, since you ask". Ernie says "Don't get smart, Pop". Sam says "You don't want answers, you shouldn't ask questions". The man says "Alright, Pop, open the door, just to crack, so I can yell at someone". Sam opens the door slightly, and the man says "Hey you out there, Copper. You hear me?" The officer says "Yeah, I hear you". Ernie says "You see this guy I got with me? His name is Sam Schwartz. He owns this dump. Now, if you take one lousy step towards me, Sam Schwartz is a dead man. I got a gun right on the back of his head. Tell the guy, Pop". Sam asks "Tell him what?" Ernie says "About the gun, stupid". Sam says "A gun he's got, on the back of my head". The officer says "Now listen to me. Don't shoot that man. Put your hands up and come out here. All we've got on you now is armed robbery, a few years. If you pull that trigger, you're a cinch for the chair. It would be crazy to kill him".

I Was a Communist for the FBI - The Red Record
Monday Jan 05, 2026
Monday Jan 05, 2026
Matt Cvetic went to a meeting in his communist cell on a Tuesday at 9:00 PM. There were members six there, four men and two women. They went through all the reports, the propaganda, and the directors. Then, comrade Ted, the leader of the cell, had a word to say. He says "Keep this in mind, comrades, the party expects nothing impossible. It expects you to just do what you're told. I think that's all, good night". As the members got up to leave, Ted says "Oh, comrade Matt, wait just a second, will you?" Matt says "Me? Sure". Ted says "Sit down. Have you ever been in Chicago?" Matt says "I've passed through a couple of times. That's all". Ted asks "Do you have any connections there? Relatives? Anybody that knows you?" Matt says "Not that I know of". Ted says "Okay. You know, comrade, you are a pretty good looking guy. That isn't gonna do any harm on the job we've got for you". Matt asks "What job?" Ted says "The Central Committee decided from what I told them about you. You are the comrade to handle this follow-up". Matt says "I don't understand". Ted says "You don't have to understand. All you have to do is obey orders". Matt asks "Okay, what are my orders?" Ted says "Pack a bag full of clothes and be at the information desk at the Union Station at 1:00 AM". Matt says "Four hours from now. Where am I going?" Ted says "Don't worry about it". Matt says "And how long will I be gone?" Ted says "Who knows comrade, maybe forever". Comrade Ted gave Matt some money for expenses and they walked out to the street together. Ted says "Well, see you again, comrade" and walks off. Matt, then, walks across town to the place where he lives. He went to his room and called his FBI contact. Matt says "I'm being sent somewhere. I'm not sure, but I think it's Chicago. I'm supposed to make a contact at the Union Station at 1:00 AM". The FBI contact asks "Do you know what it's about?" Matt says "No idea". FBI contact says "Chicago. Yes, there's an operation in Chicago that we've heard about. I'll give you a number to call if you need it. Michigan 9-1112. Don't write it down, just remember it". Matt says "I'll remember".

Murder Most Foul - The Wheels of Justice
Monday Jan 05, 2026
Monday Jan 05, 2026
The year was 1941. Polly Dubinsky was determined to find out what happened to her married sister, Rachel Dobkin. Many people went missing at this time as London was pounded mercilessly from the air. But Polly didn't believe her sister was a victim of the blitz. For one thing, her sister's handbag, including her identity documents, had been found in a post office. During the war, it was essential to carry this identification. Polly went to the police, and was shown through to Chief Inspector Davis. Polly says "My sister's been strangled by her husband! This was told to me by two mediums!" Davis says "Come now, Miss". Polly asks "What are you going to do about it?" Davis says "Yes, Miss, but the evidence of a medium, or even two mediums..." Polly says "She's been murdered, I tell you. You don't care!" Davis says "Alright, I'll talk to the woman, this medium". Polly says "And Rachel's husband, you'll talk to him as well?" Davis says "Yes". Chief Inspector Davis did visit the medium, and Mr. Dobkin was seen too. Mr. Dobkin didn't seem much concerned. He lived apart from his wife for the last eighteen years, and he freely admitted that there was no love loss between them. Harry Dobkin said he had seen her on April 11th, the day she disappeared, when she pestered him yet again about maintenance money. Then she said that she was going to her mother's. Where, in fact, she had gone after that, he neither knew or cared. Then, the matter might have rested. But about that time, there was a fire in the cellar of an old Baptist church in South London, next door to where Rachel Dobkin's husband worked at night. In fact, he was discovered at the scene, by a policeman. Harry Dobkins says "I'm glad you've come officer, this is a terrible blow, isn't it?" The Officer says "I'll call the fire brigade. They should be here in a minute. After the fire was put out, a day was spent digging over parts of the floor. Strangely, a newly dug hole was found, about the size of a grave.

Monday Jan 05, 2026
Monday Jan 05, 2026
Detective Sergeants Joe Friday and Ben Romero, working the day watch out of Personnel, arrive at the Assembly Room of Central Division at 5:25 PM. Ben says "Do you see him, Joe?" Joe says "Yeah, that looks like him over there". They walk up to him, and Joe says "Hi. Are you Russell Clark?" He says "Yeah, that's right". Joe says "Friday and Romero, Personnel. Lieutenant Drummond over at the Bureau of Internal Affairs would like to talk to you". Clark says "Alright, when did he want to see me?" Ben says "Right now". Clark says "Okay, let's go". As they are walking, Clark asks "What do they want to see me about, you know?" Joe says "Drummond will tell you". Ben asks "How long you been on the job, Clark?" He says "About two and a half months". Joe asks "How do you like it?" Clark says "Oh, I like it fine. My wife doesn't think much of it. She wanted me to stay at my old job". Joe asks "What was that?" Clark says "Selling insurance". As they arrive at the office, Ben says "This is Officer Clark, Lieutenant Drummond". Clark says "How do you do, sir?" Drummond says "How are you, Clark? Sit down. I have a couple of questions for you. You were on special duty at the Olympic auditorium last night, is that right?" Clark says "Yes sir, for the fights". Drummond asks "Did anything unusual happen out there last night?" Clark says "Well, it wasn't very important, Lieutenant. After the fights, a drunk fell down the stairs on the way out of the auditorium, and broke his arm. I took him to Georgia Street and they took care of the arm and I drove him home. He was pretty drunk". Drummond asks "Why didn't you book the man?" Clark says "I didn't think it was necessary. The man was in pretty bad shape. Drummond says "Law is there for a purpose. You decided to forget it, now you're in a mess, right up to your neck". Clark says "I don't understand". Drummond asks "Do you remember his name?" Clark says "Yes, sir, his name was Stacy, lives out in West LA" Drummond says "Mr. Stacy, wants to file a complaint against you. He claims you took him back to the auditorium, beat him up, broke his arm, and robbed him of 128 dollars".

Finding a dead body in the dark alley is business as usual in the big city, however, this time it was different. The police asked newspaper reporter, Randy Stone, to identify the body. Early the next morning, Randy was in the morgue standing beside a sheet covered slab. The Police Lieutenant nodded, and the attendant pulled back the sheet. The Lieutenant says "Well?" Randy says "Yes, that's him, that's Ted Carter". The Lieutenant says "Okay, that does it. We had to get positive identification and you were the only one we could reach. Sorry I had to get you out of bed. Well, I guess that winds it up. Thanks for the trouble". Randy says "Wait a minute, what do you mean by "thanks?" What happens now? We go back and catch up on our sleep?" Lieutenant says "I know you had a friendly interest in the kid, Randy, but he got it the way all hoodlums eventually get it". Randy says "He was going straight, you know it". Lieutenant says "Getting sore about it ...." Randy says "Who did it? Who killed him? Lieutenant says "Go into any book joint, any gin mill, look at any back alley, any flop house. Whoever you find there could have done it, take your pick". Randy says "Take my pick?" Lieutenant says "Nobody talks. Nobody remembers anything. No clues. But enough suspects to fill Soldier's Field. In my book, it's murder by person or persons unknown". Randy says "Oh, it's just like that". Lieutenant says "Just like that". Randy says "Maybe for you it's that way, but not for me, Lieutenant. You want the man who put Ted Carter under that sheet? Well, brother you just reach out and touch him". Lieutenant asks "What are you talking about?" Randy says "I've known Ted since we were kids. We grew up in the same block of tenements. Whenever we got together, I never missed a chance for some fancy speeches about Ted going straight and leading a good life. Well, he listened and started going straight, you know he did. However, somebody didn't like the idea of him going straight so he's now lying on that slab as a tribute to my eloquence. If I don't find who killed Ted Carter, I'm going to start having some lousy dreams, Lieutenant, and I'm a guy that likes to sleep soundly".

Dangerous Assignment - Missing Arctic Warfare Report
Sunday Jan 04, 2026
Sunday Jan 04, 2026
As Steve is walking into the Commissioner's office, He says "Good Morning, Commissioner. Ruth said you had an assignment for me. Commissioner says "I do, Steve. How would you go about firing a rocket if the firing mechanism was frozen?" Steve said "What? You mean you dragged me in here just to try out a riddle on me?" The Commissioner says "I'm serious now, answer my question". Steve says "Okay, so if the firing mechanism was frozen, I probably wouldn't be able to fire the rocket. I suppose that's the wrong answer". The Commissioner says "No, it's the right answer and that's what's wrong". Steve says "I think you'd better start at the beginning". Commissioner says "Steve as you know the entire arctic area is a potential battleground, but sub-zero temperatures do a lot of strange things to weapons of war. All the way from impairing their accuracy to rendering them completely useless". Steve says "So, what am I supposed to do, invent a new plastic to protect them from the cold?" Commissioner says "You don't have to. it's already being made. It's a liquid which does protect weapons and electronic devices from the effects of sub-zero temperatures". Steve says "Well, that's all very interesting commissioner but I still don't see where i fit into the deal". Commissioner says "I'm coming to that. The private company which developed this new plastic has just concluded exhaustive field tests with it up in the arctic. They learned under actual conditions just how much of this liquid is to be used, how it's applied, and how it affects the accuracy of the weapons. In short, they found out a lot of pretty important information, vital information. Steve, their field representative man, named Holcomb wrote up a complete report on it for the western hemisphere defense meeting which is slated to be held in Quebec, Canada, tomorrow. Steve says "Oh I get it. You want me to go up to Quebec and bodyguard this guy, Holcomb?" Commissioner says "I'm afraid it's a little too late for that. Last night on a side street in Quebec they found Holcomb's body. He was quite dead and the report was missing".

The Adventures of the Falcon - The Case of the Unsilent Butler
Saturday Jan 03, 2026
Saturday Jan 03, 2026
It is early afternoon in New York City. In the swank offices of the Conreid Oil Company, the president of the outfit thumbs through a stack of correspondence. His secretary, Miss Rogers, calls for him on the intercom. Conried answers and says "What is it, Miss Rogers? She says "I'm sorry to bother you Mr. Conried, but there's a Daniel Lions here to see you". Conreid says "Daniel Lions?" Miss Rogers says "He used to be with the Cooper Detective Agency. He says he has a 3:30 PM appointment". Conreid says "Oh yes, send him in". Miss Rogers says "Mr. Conried will see you now, Mr. Lions". Conried says over the telecom "Miss Rogers, see that we're not disturbed. Danny walks into the office and says "Mr, Conried, I'm Danny Lions. Conried says "Lions, this is indeed a pleasure, sir. Won't you sit down? Danny says "Thanks". Conried says "You're probably wondering why I sent for you". Danny says "Now that you mention it, I am. Your company has its own staff of troubleshooters". Conried says "Well, the assignment I had in mind calls for peculiar talents, and I don't think our boys are equipped to handle it. Mr. Lions, how much do you know about the oil business. Danny says "Very little". Conried asks "Have you any idea how we locate a well?" Danny says "I always assume you just kept digging and hope for the best". Conried says "It's a little more scientific than that, however there's still a great deal of guesswork involved, so much so that last year alone my company lost six million dollars sinking new wells. Now, three months ago, an engineer named Robert Butler invented a device that takes practically eighty percent of the guess work out of locating oil wells. He called it the Butler Petroleum Protector". Danny says "A gimmick like that ought to be worth a fortune". Conried says "It is. Unfortunately, Robert Butler died in a car accident two weeks ago, and the plans for his invention were lost in the accident. The only thing left was a twelve inch working model, which was passed along to his brother Arthur. If we could get that working model it would be worth a hundred thousand dollars to someone. Danny says "No questions asked? Conried says "No questions asked".

Tales of the Texas Rangers - Soft Touch
Saturday Jan 03, 2026
Saturday Jan 03, 2026
Early on a Sunday morning, married couple Bill and Judy Ross are in their blue sedan, taking their children on a trip to see their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ross at their ranch home, located about 30 miles from the town of Salt Flats, Texas. They arrive at their destination about 11:00 o'clock in the morning. Bill says "Come on, kids, this is Grandma's house". Judy says "Bill, let them sleep. We started so early and they're tired". Bill says "Well, we can't leave them in the car". Judy says "If we wake them up now, they'll never finish their naps. We'll bring them in in a few minutes". Bill says "Okay, getting up at 4:00 AM was kind of early, even for them. Hey look, Paw has painted the windmill". Judy says "Oh Bill, I love this place. I wish we didn't live so far away". Bill says "Yeah, we don't get here often enough. Hey, I wonder where the folks are? They usually stand in the middle of the road waiting for us when they know we're bringing the kids for a visit". Judy says "The door's open. Your mother's probably in the kitchen cooking enough food for a dozen". As they walk into the house, Bill says "Yeah, don't smell anything cooking. Maw, Paw, you home?" Judy says "Maybe they're still at church, Bill". He says "No, they're always back by 10:00 o'clock. The garage door is closed, too. Paw always leaves it open when he's got the car out". Judy says "Oh, then they must be in back someplace". Bill says "Yeah. Hey Maw, Paw, where are you?" Judy says "I've never known your mother to be any place but in the kitchen, Bill". He says "Yeah, but she doesn't hear so well anymore. Let's take a look. Maw? Hmm, nobody here, Judy". She says "Bill, what's that spilled on the floor at the door to the pantry?" Bill says "Hey Judy, that looks like blood". They open the pantry door. Judy screams! Bill yells "Maw, Paw, oh, Good Lord!" The brutal murder of the rancher and his wife was reported. Texas Ranger Jace Pearson was notified by shortwave radio. He reached the ranch house in less than one hour after the bodies were discovered.

Michael Shayne, Private Detective - Date At Cliff House
Saturday Jan 03, 2026
Saturday Jan 03, 2026
Private Detective Michael Shane and his attractive assistant Phyllis Knight find themselves at San Francisco's Cliff House to keep a date with a lady that called herself Miss Jones. Phyllis says "Mike Shane, if she weren't a blonde and good-looking you'd have turned the case down". Mike says "For the thousandth time, honey, I tell you I haven't seen the girl. I only know that she's frightened. She said she was a brunette, 5'2, and wearing a Kelly Green raincoat". Phyllis says "Well then, there she is staring out the window. Oh, she saw us. Hey, does she know you?" Mike says "No, but I told her I was bringing you along and there aren't any other couples around. She says "Mr. Shayne and Miss Knight, correct?" Mike says "Are you Miss Jones?" She says "Well no, I used that name over the phone but my real name is Wright". Phyllis says "Not Patricia Wright?" She says "Yes". Phyllis says "Oh, then it was your brother. I mean, I read the article in the papers". Mike asks "What is all this?" Patricia says "My brother was killed Monday. The police said it was an accident. He fell over the cliff they said but...." Mike says "But you think he was murdered, in fact". Patricia says "Yes". Mike asks "Why?" Patricia says "I just know he was pushed over that cliff". Mike asks "And now, whom do you suspect?" She says "I don't know, my father's manager, Mr. Haberman, for one, and a Mr. Armstrong, a businessman dealing with my father, and..." Mike says "And your father?" Patricia says "Yes. Well, not that I think my father killed my brother, no, but I am suspicious of some of my father's business dealings and associates". Phyllis asks "Miss Wright, your brother was in business with your father?" She says "Yes and, well, he didn't approve of some of their deals. Mike asks "Did he complain to you or to your father?" Patricia says "Both. They've had bitter quarrels over some of their transactions". Phyllis says "And how about you, Miss Wright. Are you afraid for your own life?" Patricia says "Yes, terribly afraid". Mike says "Okay, that settles it. So, far as I'm concerned, we'll take the case".

Broadway is My Beat - The Charles Crandall Murder Case
Friday Jan 02, 2026
Friday Jan 02, 2026
Detective Danny Clover is called to an alley near Solly's Bar on Third Avenue. A man was found with a gunshot wound to his chest. Sergeant Muggerman is already on the scene, searching the dead man's pockets. He finds something, looks at it, then notices Danny and says "It was a nice day, wasn't it, Danny?" Danny asks "What did you find, Muggerman?" He says "I found him like that, all broken up about the bullet in his chest. He tried to tell me why it was there, but the word never got out". Danny asks "Was it was phoned in?" Muggerman says "Yeah, from the back room of a bar down the alley. A friendly chap wanted out for a breath of fresh air, saw this, ran back to the bar, and made his phone call. Danny asks "You talked to him?" Muggerman says "Yeah, a friendly lush. Invited me to a cold beer. I didn't take it". Danny says "He knew this man?" Muggerman says "Never had the pleasure, he told me. All the citizens of the alley never had the pleasure, I checked". Danny asks "What's that in your hand?" Muggerman says "This? Oh, I almost forgot. It's a ticket for parking made out to a Charles Crandall. Over-parked in the loading zone". Danny asks "Anything else?" Muggerman says "Not a thing, nothing. Except that expensive watch on his wrist. You have to listen awful close to even hear it ticking. Very expensive". Danny says "No wallet, no identification, just the parking ticket". Muggerman says "That's all. Not much for a grown man to leave behind him, is it, Danny?" By then, the alley became cluttered with onlookers and men from the police department, so Danny left the scene with the ticket. He took it to the Traffic Department to find an address that when along with the name and license plate number. Charles Crandall, rooming house on West 17th Street. Danny paid a visit to the address and talked to the landlady. She said that Charles was a longshoreman and worked at the Peerless Steamship Line. Danny went to his place of work and found him. Danny says "The foreman said you are Charles Crandall". He says "Yeah, is this about the parking ticket? I'm not surprised". Danny says "I am. I didn't think you were alive".

Nick Carter, Master Detective - The Four Rings of Death
Friday Jan 02, 2026
Friday Jan 02, 2026
Nick and Patsy are onboard a small motorboat headed for Tory Island, a small island just off the Long Island shore. Nick says "If I had known the weather was going to be like this, I never would have accepted this job". Patsy asks "Why are you doing it, Nick?" He says "As a special favor to Colonel Howard. A friend of his, Andrew Jessup, asked him to find the best code expert he knew, and he said I was the man of the job. So when the colonel called me, I agreed to do it" Patsy asks "Just what is it you're going to do?" Nick says "Well, it seems that back in 1776, four wealthy Tories were afraid that General Washington was going to capture Manhattan Island, so they got all their valuables together, and went to this little island where we're going now. They buried everything somewhere on the island and recorded the burial place in a secret code or cipher. They lived there for a while and later were all lost in a storm while trying to get back to the mainland". Patsy says "Is there any real truth in it?" Nick says "His lawyer, Andrew Jessup, recently came across something that convinced him the story is true. So, he rounded up the heirs of the four original Tories and arranged for them to meet on the island this afternoon. If I can decipher the code, they'll dig up the treasure and divide it". A few minutes later, the boat operator drops off Nick and Patsy at the island, then heads back toward the mainland. Patsy says "Oh, Gosh, Nick, I wish you hadn't let that boat leave us here like this. This is the loneliest looking island I ever saw". Nick says "It's all right, Patsy. We'll go back with Jessup when he goes. Ah, that must be the house up there". Suddenly, they hear a man yelling. Patsy says "Listen!" Nick says "Yes, I hear it. Wait here. I want to see what's wrong. A shot is heard. Nick soon finds one man laying on the ground, and sees another man running away. Patsy comes up and says "Nick, what is it?" Nick says "I'm okay Patsy, but this man isn't. He stopped a bullet with his head". Patsy asks "Who is he?" Nick says "Let's see if he has any identification on him. Here we are, Cyrus J. File. He's one of the heirs, Patsy. I remember his name".

Walk Softly, Peter Troy - The High Pressure Harpy
Thursday Jan 01, 2026
Thursday Jan 01, 2026
As Julie was out to lunch, Peter Troy was in his office looking at the newspaper. There was an article about a holdup in Mr. Hagerty's little corner store, but Peter didn't take too much notice of it. That kind of caper is strictly for the police. Suddenly, a tall lady swept into his office like a galleon under full sail. She must have stood five feet eleven inches in her stockings. Unfortunately, Peter left the door to his office open, so there was little to impede the overpowering Amazon's invasion. Miss Hoffman says "You'll be Peter Troy, no doubt". He says "Uh yeah, I'm Peter Troy". Miss Hoffman says "Shall I sit here?, yes, this will do". Peter says "Now, look Miss...." She says "Hoffman, Diana Hoffman of the Hoffman Business College, you know". Peter says "Business College? You sure you don't mean a gymnasium?" She says "If that's meant to be funny, I can assure you it doesn't appeal to me that way. I have come here on business, your business. You are a private investigator, are you not?" Peter says "Well, that's what the sign on the door says, Miss Hoffman". She says "You don't look much like a private investigator, rather too soppy if you don't mind me saying so". Peter says "Oh why should I mind that? You go right ahead". She says "Anyway, you'll have to do. I can't spend any more time on this project". Peter says "Project?" She says "They've arrested Heinrich Capel, Paul Capel's father, for holding up Hagerty's store. The position is this: Paul Capel's father is a shiftless person, but probably not the kind of man to commit a crime like this. Paul is convinced of his innocence and I'm prepared to support him in that at least I am prepared to go to some trouble and expense to get at the truth". Peter says "Oh, why?" She says "Because Paul Capel is my future husband, that's why". Peter says "Your future husband? Does he know? She says "Of course, he knows. I've already told him".

Mr. and Mrs. North - Shoot To Kill
Thursday Jan 01, 2026
Thursday Jan 01, 2026
Five days a week for eighteen months, Sam Mercer has ridden across town on the bus to work and home, to three rooms in a cold water flat, to his wife and baby. But not tonight. Tonight he's making a detour. One that is taking him back to an old life, an old friend, and trouble. Sam is pressing on Art's doorbell. Art opens the door and says "Well for.... look who's here, Sammy". He says "Hello, Art". Art says "Sammy boy, I can't believe it. Come on in kid, come in". Sam says "Sounds like you got company". Art says "Oh, just some of the gang. Come in kid". Sam says "No thanks, Art, I better not". Art says "Come on". Sam says "Look Art, could I talk to you private for just a minute?" Art says "Well, sure Sammy boy, sure. In here". They go into another room, and Art says "Well, what's on your mind, kid?" Sam says "I need some money, Art. Helen's been sick a lot the last six months, ever since the baby was born. I haven't been able to get a decent job, you know how it is for a guy with a record". Art says "Yeah, sure I know. Well, how much you need, kid?" Sam says "About ..about a thousand. Maybe I could get by on seven fifty, Art, but I...." Art says "Oh look, Sammy, I'd like to help you out, but I just don't have that kind of dough. A hundred or two, sure, okay, but...." Sam says "Okay Art, thanks anyway". Art says "You know kid, this...this makes me a little bit sore". Sam asks "What do you mean?" Art says "I mean you, a good guy like you, strapped for dough. You like the way you're living, working on a docks all day and going home to a wife and a squalling kid every night, packing your lunch in a tin pail, worrying about bills, trying to decide whether to ride to work or save a dime for a glass of beer?" Sam says "Look Art, will you...." Art says "Who do you think you're kidding, Sammy? Remember when you were living in a nice apartment, driving a flashy car, wearing decent clothes, running around with numbers, like Kay Miller out there. Well, a guy may stop living that way Sammy, but you can't tell me he ever stops wanting to". Sam asks "Why the sermon, Art? You just preaching or have you got something in mind?"

Counterspy - The Case of the Captured Contact
Wednesday Dec 31, 2025
Wednesday Dec 31, 2025
A phone call is made to the Counterspy offices in Washington. The caller says "Mr. Harding? Mr. David Harding?" Harry says "No, this is Mr. Harding's assistant, Harry Peters". The caller says "I am calling from Baltimore. I must speak to Mr. Harding in person. Did he not receive my letter?" Harry asks "Who is this, please?" The caller says "I signed the letter only with the name, Roland". Harry says "Just a moment", and transfers the call. David says "Harding speaking". The caller says "Mr. Harding, this is Roland. You received my letter, no?" Harding says "I'd like to know who you really are". Roland says "Full details I cannot give over the telephone, but I give a name, Dr. Maximo. I have been in your country lecturing on Bacteriology. My real purpose was something else, and now I realize I have been making a terrible mistake for years. I can correct it only one way, to tell everything to the United States Counterspies". Harding says "Well, you're only forty five minutes from Washington by train". Dr. Maximo says "Oh no, I do not dare move from this hotel room. My life...." Harding asks "What hotel?" Maximo says "The Gainsborough, Room 819. I beg you to come, Mr. Harding, what I must tell you is of the first importance". Harding says "Well, I'll see about it, Dr. Maximo, good bye" and hangs up the phone. Maximo then calls the hotel front desk and says "Young lady, this is Mr. Jones in Room 819. You have, I believe it is called, a house detective, Mr. Blaine is his name? I believe my life is in danger. Would you please ask him to come to my room at once?" Later, after Harding and Peters listen to a three year old recording of a socialist's speech given in Paris, and compare it to the recording of Dr. Maximo's call from earlier that day, they conclude that it is the same man's voice. Harding says "Well Peters, if this man is ready, as he says, to turn against his masters in Catania, we'd better go see him”.

Whitehall 1212 - The Case of Sydney Wolfe
Tuesday Dec 30, 2025
Tuesday Dec 30, 2025
Chief Inspector Leslie Cameron Underhill of Scotland Yard is called to Margate, a seaside town in the Thanet District of Kent, by authority of the Chief Constable who had asked for the CID's help. Inspector Charles Hatcher, of the Margate Police, informed Underhill as to what was happening. Hatcher says "We've got him safe in jail on a charge of unlawfully obtaining credit. We shall be able to put our hands on him when we want him, alright". Underhill says "I don't understand what you need a CID man for a charge like that one, a misdemeanor". Hatcher says "Inspector, it isn't a misdemeanor we want him for, sir. It's murder. We can't prove it, of course, yet. So, we can't charge the blighter, but as long as he's in jail, we can look about a bit, and we're hoping that perhaps you can find out if we're right in our suspicions". Underhill asks "What's it all about? I know nothing, of course". Hatcher says "Well, he did the hotel people, the Metropole, here in Margate, out of 8 pounds, and 13 shillings, food and lodging for himself and the old lady for a week. Then, he got an advance of 40 pounds on her insurance". Underhill asks "Was she dead?" Hatcher says "Of course, in the fire". Underhill asks "What fire?" Hatcher says "When her room caught on fire, last week". Underhill asks "What happened?" Hatcher says "She died. Suffocated. Carbon dioxide, smoke, etc. Two doctors certified her dead by misadventure. He took her away to bury her, but instead he rushed up to Norwich". Underhill asks "Did he bury her at Norwich?" Hatcher says "Her home was at Great French, but he didn't go there. He went to Norwich, where the headquarters of the insurance company is located. There he got an advance of 40 pounds, but he didn't bother to come back here and pay his bills". Underhill says "Ah, I see. You arrested him there and brought him back here". Hatcher says "He's in jail here now, awaiting trial on the fraud charge". Underhill says "Well, then...." Hatcher says "We have an idea that the old lady didn't set herself on fire accidentally". Underhill says "You think he murdered her for her insurance?" Hatcher says "With your assistance, we hope to prove that".

Cloak and Dagger - The Roof of the World
Tuesday Dec 30, 2025
Tuesday Dec 30, 2025
After a lecture on prehistoric animals at the Museum of Natural History, Philip and Ester Malden receive a telegram from the Office of Strategic Services in Washington. Ester says "Now why in the world do they want us?" Philip says "Well, there's one way to find out". Later, in Washington, they are meeting with an OSS Colonel. He says "Mr. and Mrs. Malden, we know your reputation as geologists and explorers. We know you've traveled the Far East together several times. Now, at this stage of the war, Germany is pushing eastward across Africa to Suez, and Japan is thrusting westward across China into India. If the Axis partners meet, their junction will be Central Asia, and dominating that meeting point will be Tibet". Ester asks "What do you want us to do, Colonel?" He says "We want volunteers to make a pilgrimage to the Dalai Lama, High Priest of Tibet. It'll be a goodwill mission to get them on our side. It involves a great deal of danger". Philip says "Yes, yes, we know. Esther?" She says "I'm willing". A few weeks later, the Malden's were flown to India where we were given a car. Soon, their tour was started out across the border to a small village at the foot of the Himalaya Mountains. Once there, they were to pick up pack animals, a guide, and to start our journey to the holy city. Once underway, Philip says "These roads couldn't have been any narrower or any rockier". Ester says "Well, they weren't designed for modern travel". Philip says "You can say that again". Ester asks "Phil, are you worried about something?" He says "This is the worst possible time of the year to be traveling up that mountain. It's almost spring up there, and the thaw is setting in. It's going to loosen the snow and ice all along the way". Ester says "Well, we'll just have to be more careful, that's all". After a few seconds, Ester says "Oh, Phil, look, round the bend of the road. That's the village, isn't it?" Phil says "Yes, that's it". Ester says "Wait a minute, Phil. Slow down. Look". Phil says "Good Lord". Ester says "I should have said, it was a village". Phil says "It's been burned to the ground".

Boston Blackie - Baseball and Gambling
Monday Dec 29, 2025
Monday Dec 29, 2025
Jimmy Saunders, brother of a professional baseball player, is called in to have a meeting with Rully Carter, owner of a gambling house. As Jimmy walks into Carter's office, he says "You wanted to see me, Mr. Carter?" Carter says "I sure do". Jimmy says "Well, if it's about the fifty thousand I owe you, I don't have it". Carter says "Oh well, in that case Jimmy, maybe you shouldn't be allowed at the roulette tables again until you've paid up". Jimmy says "Oh but, Mr. Carter, you can't do that to me. My luck will change. Give me a chance, will you?" Carter says "A chance? Oh come now, Jimmy, you're into me for fifty thousand. But, um, I'll tell you what I will do. Your brother, Sammy, is one of the best baseball players in the league, right?" Jimmy says "Well sure, but what's he got to do with this? Look, I don't want him to know, you understand, I don't want him to know that I've been gambling". Carter says "Oh he won't, he won't. Now, uh, if you introduce your brother to a certain young lady, I'll forget that you owe me a dime. How's that?" Jimmy says "Just to introduce my brother to a girl and you'll tear up my IOUs for that?" Carter says "Yeah". Jimmy says "Gee, I don't get it". Carter says "You don't have to, but I don't get my fifty thousand either. What do you say?" Jimmy says "Mr. Carter, I don't know what this is all about...." Carter says "But you'll do it. That's being a good boy, Jimmy. That's being a smart boy, too. Yeah, maybe the smartest you've ever been".

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes - The Noble Bachelor
Sunday Dec 28, 2025
Sunday Dec 28, 2025
Doran, an American mining millionaire, is wanting his beautiful, but spirited, daughter Hattie to be wed to the noble bachelor himself, Lord St. Simon. Doran's wealth will help to fill the coffers of the St. Simon family, who's fortunes have been in a state of decline. Doran knows that Lord St. Simon is one of England’s most noble aristocrats, and the marriage to his daughter, Hattie Doran, will bring about a slight sense of nobility to his own family. Doran is currently speaking with Hattie about the marriage, who seems a little less than enthusiastic about the idea. Hattie says "No, it's ridiculous". Doran says "It's exactly what I always wanted for you". Hattie says "It's what you always wanted. When did you care about what I wanted?" Doran says "If we had done what you wanted, my girl, you'd be stuck away somewhere in a two bit hovel without a cent to your name". Hattie says "That's the only thing you care about, isn't it? Well, I don't give a damn about money". Hattie stops to think for a few seconds, and says "Pa, it isn't working. None of it. I can't do it. Let's go home". Doran says "You don't want to go home". Hattie says "I don't know what I want". Doran says "All I want is the best for you. You know that. Look, the past is gone. You can't bring it back". Hattie says "I know". Doran says "You've got to think about the future. You're twenty four years old". Hattie says "I know that too, damn it". Doran says "Hattie, this kind of chance, it will not come your way again. Don't you like him at all?" Hattie says "I like him well enough". Doran says "Then, promise me you'll think about it, at least. That's all I'm asking. Just think about it". Hattie says "Alright, I'll think about it". Soon, St. Simon proposes marriage and Hattie accepts. Sometime later, the wedding ceremony takes place without an issue, however, during the subsequent wedding breakfast, Hattie, visibly upset, excuses herself and runs toward her room. Seconds later, Lord St. Simon goes to her room to look for her and finds that she is not there. In fact, after a complete search of her father's home and grounds, it seems she has disappeared completely.

The Line-Up - The Wild, Wild Woman Case
Saturday Dec 27, 2025
Saturday Dec 27, 2025
Sergeant Dave Asher enters the line-up audience room and sees Lieutenant Ben Guthrie. He says "Hi Ben. Has your victim shown up yet?" Guthrie says "No, I'm still waiting". Sergeant Matt Grebb begins, as he normally does, by giving the instructions to the witnesses. Just as Guthrie is about to leave, Mr. Chadwick, the victim, shows up. As Guthrie introduces Chadwick to Sergeant Asher, Grebb starts asking the line-up questions to the inmates. Later, Guthrie is in his office as Grebb enters. Guthrie says "Hi, you finished already?" Grebb says "Yeah, not many today. Chadwick didn't come through, huh?" Guthrie says "No. Take a look at this". Guthrie shows Grebb a list of the jewelry store robberies. Grebb asks "All these places?" Guthrie says "Yep, the MO (modus operandi) is exactly the same. They pick out a little neighborhood jewelry store. She stays on the outside, he goes inside and cleans out the place. They hit once and scram to the next town". Grebb says "Ben, these descriptions are all pretty much alike, including the one we got from Chadwick. Hey, what about that? John Tynan was number three in the line-up earlier. I thought sure he was our boy". Guthrie says "Well, let's keep hauling them in". Grebb says "Okay". At that moment, Guthrie gets a phone call from the Chief of Police in Denver. After a few seconds on the phone, Guthrie says "Hold on". He turns to Grebb and says "Matt, what about Tynan?" Grebb says "He's back at the city jail. He's going to be arraigned on having a concealed weapon this afternoon". Guthrie relays that information to the caller, and hangs up. He says "Tynan may still be our boy, Matt. The Chief of Police in Denver wants us to hold him. A jewelry store man there identified the picture we put on the wire last night. Get Chadwick up here. He's down there looking through the mug files".

The Chase - Blackout
Saturday Dec 27, 2025
Saturday Dec 27, 2025
The patient is in a hospital bed on a gray December morning. He seem to awake behind a curtain of gauze, with a mind that was enshrouded in darkness. He hears a voice that says "Pulse 92, blood pressure 140 over 80, temperature normal. not too bad. Oh, you're awake". The patient says "Yes, I think so". The voice asks "How do you feel?" The patient says "I don't know". The voice says "I'm Dr. Scott". The patient asks "Dr. Scott, am I ill?" Scott says "You were, for 16 weeks". The patient asks "Where am i now?" Scott says "The General Hospital. It seems to me you've been here since they laid the cornerstone". Patient asks "What happened to me? Why do I have all this gauze on my head?" Scott says "You were hit by a car, squarely. Incidentally, it was your own fault, You were crossing the street against the lights while intoxicated. Now, perhaps you'd like to introduce yourself". Patient asks "You mean you don't know who i am?" Scott says "No. Do you?" Patient says "Of course". Scott says "Fine. Who are you?" Patient says "Why, I'm.... uh.... but this is ridiculous. I mean I know who I am". Scott says "I'm afraid you don't. Uh, nurse, luminol, half grain. Here, take this with water". Patient asks "What is it?" Scott says "Something to keep you calm while we talk". The patient takes the medicine. Scott says "That's a good chap. Now, listen to me. I think you're well enough to understand the facts. First of all, you're suffering from amnesia. You've had a complete blackout. At the moment, neither of us knows just who you are or where you came from". Patient asks "But, my clothes? Wasn't any identification in my clothes?" Scott says "When we picked you up, you were wearing a shirt and a pair of trousers. That's all. You'd lost your overcoat and jacket somewhere". Patient asks "You've never been able to identify me?" Scott says "No. You've been in and out of the ether three times since the accident, but this is the first time you've been rational enough to answer questions".
